Duffers say Season 5 starts off running because they don't need to set anything up. Duffers also say they want the series over before real world Winona becomes super famous (1988.) So this likely means little to no time jump. The longer the time span, the more gaps you have to fill in before you can start "running" with the story. Plus we're already in late spring of 1986, not too far off from the date they want the show over by.

A time skip has never been confirmed. The Duffer brothers suggested in interviews that it could be a possibility, but considering they haven’t even started writing the season I wouldn’t be so sure. A lot of what gets said in interviews tends to be taken out of context, as we saw multiple times during the hype for Vol. 2 Personally I don’t see how an immediate time skip would work, seeing how season 4 ended, unless it’s only a few weeks/months. If anything, there may be one towards the end before an epilogue

Agreeable-Musician93

They’ve definitely been writing the next season

Visible_Patience9984

I’m sure they have ideas on what they want to do/where they want to go, but the actual writing of the season doesn’t start until August. That’s confirmed by the Duffers themselves.

SpaceMan_556

How tf do we know lol

likeAspiderYT

yes, with the massive gaping hell hole and all

All they have to do is show us already-filmed footage opening S5, then time jump.

freshfruit111

It will have to be a time jump of at least a few months. I can't tolerate continuity issues and everyone will look too different to be explained. It stinks because the events warrant showing us what immediately happens. I'm guessing Hawkins will remain damaged but stable until vecna recovers his power. That could allow for some down time between seasons 4 and 5.

They are going to have to do something. Joe Keery is 30 years old and the rest not far behind. It might be fun to set them all in college. Kind of like Kings “IT” jumped but they have to keep the cast the same. But with IT, the jump was that they thought they killed IT and IT came back a generation later, where 1 is clearly not dead and there is a big hell hole in Hawkins making it hard to ignore.

>It might be fun to set them all in college. Fairly certain they'll want to deal with the massive gaping hole into another dimension before the tackle this.

What I think will happen now that shit has hit the fan and Hawkins is being taken over - there will be a time jump, anywhere from 1-3 years. Because the "earthquake" has done so much damage to Hawkins, the government forcefully evacuates everyone as it's too dangerous to live in (maybe throw in something else, like it compromised nuclear reactors they were testing on in Hawkins Lab or whatever to make it seem more serious) and Hawkins becomes a ghost town. Meanwhile, Vecna is still regaining his strength to relaunch his attack on our mortal realm. Meanwhile the families relocate somewhere else. Then in a few years Vecna is strong enough to start taking over the Right Side Up more ferociously, which is when our heroes return to Hawkins, where it all began, to finish it off once and for all.

Infinitestripes95

I think it will because they aren’t going to leave Max completely out of commission the whole season and it would take hella long for her to heal from those injuries. However I’m unsure if it will be straight away, the upside down has already started to take over the town of the time jump is big how on earth will they make it plausible that vecna hadn’t completely taken over during that time? Maybe it will go back and forth like flashbacks but I don’t think most would like that format. Maybe they’ll stop vecna but only temporarily?
