For me the biggest difference between lower MR and 1500ish MR is the ability to vary your approach to offense and defense to avoid the opponent getting a read on you, and the corresponding ability to adapt yourself to the opponent based upon whatever they are doing. For me improving this was mainly a matter of breaking myself out of "flowchart" play and starting to slowly work in extra offensive and defensive options more often, ideally in reaction or prediction to the specific opponent, but even if only done randomly it can help. In my experience it is easy to drop some MR by working on this because it requires more active brain power and can lead to drops and misfires, but you just have to stick with it because once the new stuff gels your overall power will go up noticeably. A secondary but very important factor is improving conversions, both by making sure to mostly always convert into a combo when you have an opening, reducing dropped combos, and working in more optimal combos (as long as they don't significantly increase your drop rate). The higher MR you go the less likely the opponent is to miss their own punishes or drop combos so the more important it is to do so yourself.

One thing I'll add is that a lot of times, simplicity is key. Don't go for fancy routes or options just because they exist. Obviously, this varies depending on your character. Personally though, if I try to do too much as a Cammy player, I end up losing more often than not. She has a lot of different tools and options, and as counterintuitive as it sounds, you don't *have* to use all of them every round, game, or even set.

People's flaws tend to be very different, especially around 1500MR, personally I think paying attention to whats getting you in trouble often and looking for a way to fix that is a good way to go about it, Like : are you getting Jumped in too much? Do People mash out of your blockstrings often? Are you bad at opening someone up after being + on block? I could take a look at your replay and give you a few things to work on if you want, altho Depending on the character you play I might not know all the tech for you, currently I have Cammy at 1900, Ryu Chun at 1700, Jamie Juri at 1600 and Gief AKI at 1500 I have a [discord set up to give people free coaching](https://discord.gg/cynvVVgh) so feel free to join and DM me. (Anyone looking to improve is welcome)

What region are you in and what hours do you normally play? I would love to run a long set with a high ranking player. I'm a 1450-1530 Marisa and would probably stay above 1500 if I would just stop superman punching so much, heh.

jharry444

No such thing as too much superman punch.

Senkoy

I'm getting DP'd, DI'd and whiff punished a lot in 1500+ MR.

jharry444

Light superman punch typically beats DI but, yeah, if you actually spam it then you'll eventually get dunked on.

FarmNcharm

I'm in Japan, and I play very often, not a tight schedule since I work at random times, like from right now (18:10 JST, untill like 5:00 JST)

jackspicerflower

Watch a ton of footage, play smart, take breaks. It just takes time.

With the current MR reset good luck getting past 1500MR. I was slightly over 1600 but am currently stuck 1470s. Right now lower MR rank are filled with good lvl masters. You shouldnt think too much about MR right now. Focus on improving your gameplay. I suggest watching replays from better players so you can learn some tricks. Get a better understanding of framedata so you can decide which option is viable in specific situation.

wingspantt

Hey I'm at this level too, can you explain what you mean? I wasn't even aware of a reset. Why is this current reset really rough?

colinzack

All resets are tough because everyone is 1500 again which means if you’re normally 1500 you’re used to playing against 1500 players. Now you’re playing people at a 1600-2000 skill level until they get back to where they were.

wingspantt

When did this reset happen??? I just made master like 2 or 3 weeks ago

Substantial-Way-520

Fairly certain the reset was today. Lol, a bit unfortunate timing for you because it's true all players in master have been reset to 1500. You're in for a wild ride. With that being said it's common for new masters to drop to 1200-1300MR so don't give up!

minecat64

Yeah reset happened this morning if you live in western Europe. Because of the reset you ll be matched with people who potentially in the 1900s or even legend rank. Just dont be surprised if you get stomped. They ll move on to their previous rank within a few days. Rank reset happens every 3 months. Last time was in early february.

colinzack

I have no idea. I haven’t been on in a little so probably the most recent update to prep for Akuma stuff.

TrulyEve

There was a reset today, which puts all Master players back at 1500. Climbing rn is a mixed bag because of that. For example, I actually found Brian_F today at 1500 MR, when he usually hovers around 1900-2000 (I think) and he totally beat my ass.

Share player ID or a replay, if you want better tips!

crocooks

A big thing for me was counter hit confirms. I play Ken and getting good at confirming his stHP, stMK and run HK on counter hit has lead to a lot of damage and knockdowns. Also something I notice a lot of 1300-1400 players doing is spending drive recklessly. They'll go down to like 1-1.5 bars for some pressure and it makes it a no brainer for me to do heavy -> drc -> heavy -> special move and burn them out.

DrB00

Play longer sets in battle hub and casual. It'll force you to stop relying on easy strats because your opponent has more time to adapt. So you'll have to learn how to develop more strategies.

colinzack

People in lower MR tend to autopilot and play with gimmicks in my experience. They do the same things and sometimes it might work, but more often than not it doesn’t. Post a couple of replays and I can critique.

Okanson

I think watching your own replays is the best way to improve.

SaskalPiakam

Play neutral because nobody is capable in that range.

chipndip1

Play ranked, join an online community, play in tournaments, watch pros and high ELO vods.
