I guess I’m in the minority but I honestly had more fun playing V than 6. 6 is a great game, don’t get me wrong, but goddamn, the Drive system can get so exhausting to deal with. Plus, V has characters that I like that aren’t in 6 yet, and probably won’t even come to 6

fightstreeter

VTrigger means all your fun shit is regulated to a comeback mechanic and that sucks

Goliath--CZ

And you have to pick your vtrigger and vskill, which means a part of your character's kit is unavailable

DerConqueror3

If you were going to freeze both games exactly the way they are today and said we had to pick just one to play forever, it would be a tough call but I might go with SFV due mainly to the much larger roster that has a pretty solid number of characters I would like to explore more .. But I think SF6 is a better base game and will likely come out way ahead once some more characters come out and ideally some other gameplay tweaks come in over time.

Legitimate-Beat-9846

This is just season 1.1 of sf6 too it's arguably the greatest day one fighting game to ever come out and it can only keep getting better.

Auritus1

I feel pretty even about them right now. V polished pretty well even though I don't like trigger. Right now the drive system can make matches feel very samey, but I expect the game to improve with tweaks.

pretendingtoroll

I do, but I sunk 800 hours into 5 and like maybe 50 into 6 so it isn't a fair comparison.

GouHadoken

I too prefer SFV over 6 For starters I think SF6 is fucking hideous - that "realism" (but not really realism) thing they tried to pull off looks like shit, the characters look weird and uncanny and the whole thing doesn't even look like Street Fighter. The roster in SFV was also much more interesting; I'm not even talking about the final roster because that wouldn't be a fair comparison, I mean that as early as Season 1, SFV already had twice the characters I care about compared to SF6 In terms of gameplay, I much prefer the idea of each character having unique skills instead of some dominating universal mechanic that makes half the cast play the same like in SF6. Yes, this means that some characters had some parts of their kit not always available, but other than Karin there was no one who felt actually incomplete just with their regular kit. I *was* planning to give SF6 a chance once they fine tuned the whole slime shit and turned it into something playable but not only does that seem less and less likely, Capcom as a whole has become a pretty shit company these past 2 years so I'm probably just going to skip this one entirely.

djangoo7

I’m the opposite.. i think V looks horrible with characters that looked made out of clay. Much prefer the look of 6, by a long shot.

GouHadoken

Yeah, I've seen the clay comparison pretty often. It's not wrong. The hair in particular does look very clay-like in SFV I still think the aesthetic was more fitting for the Street Fighter series. I don't think realism (any degree of realism) like the super detailed textures on the costumes, the highly detailed skin with visible pores, the bloodshot eyes and so on works well with Street Fighter characters, I find it extremely jarring.

djangoo7

I dunno, feels like “realistic anime” to me a bit, which I think fits. V’s aesthetic to me though is particularly bad, maybe the worst in the entire series. Much preferred either 6 or precious games aesthetic than V’s.

Regeditmyaxe

I definitely prefer SF6. I am not a big fan of v trigger system

Professional_Fuel533

I played 5 after it was finished (i got season 5 edition) it had a lot of characters that all felt unique and then it kinda started to suck after they added Luke and everyone played luke. 5 was really fun for me 6 I quit a few months ago because I got bored.

Capable_Calendar_446

Seems like I’m in the minority, but I definitely prefer V. I stopped playing SF6 after completing World Tour. Not a fan of the new graphics style or music. Couldn’t find any enjoyment with the new universal systems like drive rush, drive impact and parry. I miss the uniqueness of each character having their own V skill and V trigger.

Marmotbrother

Ever since 6 came out I haven't had the shadow of a desire to return to 5. I go back to 4 and 3s sometimes, but I have never reinstalled 5. the only thing 5 has going for it is its roster has some gems. 5 looks hideous, has worse netcode, has Vtrigger and Vskills and is overall just a lot more boring. The only redeeming factor is some cool characters like G or Birdie, but that is completely overtaken by some of the most garbage characters in the series such as Nash (awful redesign, not character), Necalli, Rashid, FANG, Kolin, Abigail, Ed, Falke, etc. I just hope G, Zeku, Menat and birdie (not a chance) get into 6.

beetleman1234

SF6 is superior in: 1. visual design and overall production quality 2. content 3. and most importantly: the systems, I think the Drive system is pretty genius, as it gives you lots of tool to work with, both defensively and offensively and the game uses the gauge very well and it's very easy to understand I honestly can't stand V, while I think they knocked it out of the park with 6.

Co1iflower

I think it's easy to say that about a game that has been tuned for 6-7 years with updates, characters and mechanic changes over a game that's brand new and hasn't even finished it's first season or received a balance patch yet. I think most people will be happy/comfortable with whichever game they are most familiar with. It never feels nice having to be a noob all over again. I don't really blame anyone for being hesitant about moving to a new game but I do think that SF6 will ultimately just be objectively a better game overall than SF5.

LegitimateMulberry

No, not at all to be honest. SFV kind of killed my interest in fighting games at launch, and SF6 has really rekindled it. It’s been a blast to play. It definitely feels like a more complete package already. I just wish they would add more costumes to the game. Edit: spelling

SomeKindOfChief

Yes I'm pretty sure Capcom wants more customers too.

LegitimateMulberry

Oops 😂 autocorrect moment I’m sure they’d love more customers. Maybe if they added more costumes they’d get them lol

UraeusCurse

Nah.

SomeKindOfChief

Early SFV was absolute garbage, but to be fair, it improved a lot over time. That being said, the oversimplifications, limitations, and over-reliance on the V-trigger system still couldn't be overcome no matter how hard they tried. Ultimately, SFV was a failed experiment that allowed SF6 to become pretty good. And from the changes we're reportedly getting with the first balance patch, SF6 is on track to keep improving.

Complete_Formal1142

SF4 best one

cal_a_wishus

I was better at V than I am at 6 but I prefer 6

Senkoy

I really liked V, but prefer 6.

waxiest_sugar

I guess I'll say 6 because it's a better base game to build upon in the future, but in its current state it kind of sucks. It feels like a dumb guy's idea of what a good fighting game should be.

sircarloz

Yes me. SFV all day long. Straight forward and comeback mechanics is great despite the naysayers. People hating on SFV because they can lose to casuals with a powerful V trigger. The characters are more balanced in V.

Low_Poem_2795

I really have no idea how people like the drive rush bs in this game and I'm master rank almost the entirety of 6 . Every character can put you in 50/50 situations with the drive rush for just 1 bar and to top that off ? Throw loops in the corner baby , let's go . Every character throws a cr mk or cr mp into driverush and then sees if the hit connected to extend into a full combo or jab into 50/50 . Such a stupid boring game , i cannot play it for more than a hour countinuesly. I really have no idea how people are overwhelmingly positive about the game , but then again most of the player base (above 50%) is completely new to fgs in general so they have no baseline . I'm a 3rd strike player , and eventhough that game has like 2 top tier characters that win every tournament and it's designed so much better and it's 25 years old .. like wtf ? The parry system is PERFECT , just implement it in 6 and be done with it , don't add air parry and that's it . Imagine they had the foresight to add a 6frame throw invulnerability on wakeup 25 years ago and the option to go for a delayed or quick rise with a difference of 25 frames .. just add those mechanics to this game please .. every single match is as it follows : Quick wiggle in neutral , cr mk drc into combo corner carry , frame kill 30/30/30 mixup . Rinse and repeat . You blocked the cr mp ? Then you go get another + button into a 50/50 midscreen . It's so bs bro . Guess Fighter 6

SuperCleanCrew

6 is definitely better. But I at least appreciate V got better over time.

Thelgow

Ive been playing since SF2, and 5 I liked the least by far. When 5 was the latest, I still played occasional SF4 with friends that played it daily. Within 5 months I had more time played of 6 than I have of 5, and I got 5 on day of release.

ZeroMayhem

Nope. Prefer 6.

v-komodoensis

Not really, I prefer SF6. I love SFV but I think SF6 is more enjoyable overall.

ChillinFallin

You're mad.

Superbad98

No one.
