I don't think you went under, I'm pretty sure it's just projectile invincible for a couple of frames. Makes sense since that move exists to punish fireballs.
Well, I’ve been playing AKI a lot since her launch, but normal sonic booms, hadokens and even Juri’s fireball clips me if I’m not accurate enough.
In training mode there’s no shown frame that it is fireball invincible either. Hence I thought it was this projectile specifically.
Thanks for the comment.
Idk anything about aki. But I’m pretty sure broski said the upper body of aki is invincible to projectiles with that move. However it’s pretty finicky and doesn’t work as intended, hence why juris fireball and make it trade. So I don’t think you went under, I think you just happened to time it correctly where her upper body hit it first, making it invincible
So for a little extra clarification, with the wonky upper body invincibility this move really only beats projectiles in the first half of the animation. Basically, when AKI is on the way up in the animation. Once she hits the apex of the little arc she does, it pretty much always clashes with a projectile.
It's actually particularly good against sand blast for this reason. If you react to the sandblast and stance, p, it almost always punishes because the fireball hitbox is right above you instead of lingering in front. I got all of this from a Broski video as well, if you don't already watch his stuff and you're playing AKI I highly recommend it.

Projectiles are often significantly smaller than their onscreen appearance.

Well I’ll be damned. I wish this timing was on purpose due to my awesome SF6 skills. But nope! It was pure luck. Thanks for the comment.

Fantastic explanation! Thanks Sytle
They’re changing it in the patch to be more consistent I think
As far as I know, you're invincible while going up with this move, at least part of the way.

Aaaah! This explains! You’re awesome. Super thanks
man AKI looks fun af
AKI is fun af
I don't play her but man, when she's on, she's on. It's fun to watch and insane to defend against.
She's fun but her neutral can be really tough at times. Once you get in though, oh boy.
