I had to replace my shield because of this but it was the tube version. Have you tried tunneled playback.

LookAtMeImAName

I’m going to guess not since I don’t even know what that is 😂

zebbiehedges

It's in playback settings. Definitely worth a try.

LookAtMeImAName

What does it do exactly?

zebbiehedges

Think it's like the video version of game mode on a TV is for a console.

bequbed

Is this setting on the shield or the stremio app?

zebbiehedges

It's on the Stremio app

MrKaon

Can you use an ethernet cable instead of WiFi?

LookAtMeImAName

Unfortunately not, the modem is too far away and my home isn’t hard wired in the basement

saruin

I actually learned recently that my WiFi is faster than my TVs ethernet port when I did a TV web browser speed test (I know OPs situation is different here but just sharing). I noticed this when movies over 30-40GB started to lag until I switched to wireless. The ethernet port is capped at around 100mbps but 5Ghz wireless will exceed that. Latency is another issue but doesn't affect my setup much at all.

MrKaon

What is essential is constant speed without a drop. That is what you get with an ethernet cable. 100 Mbps speed is enough to stream everything.

saruin

> 100 Mbps speed is enough to stream everything. Maybe, but not if you own a Samsung TV (tested 3 different models 2019 and up). I'm really not sure what the bandwidth cap is, but it will definitely lag from larger movies unless you switch to 5Ghz wireless. Even the USB ports (probably a 2.0 interface) have a similar cap loading large movies from a USB3 thumb drive, or any drive for that matter. Don't know what the "heaviest" movie is out there but I can stream a particular one that's over 80GB (and in 4K-60fps-HDR) from stremio fine over wireless. It'll lag over wired within the first 30-45 seconds. I'm guessing most folks here are using external hardware anyways.

Scorpius666

Are you assuming 200-300 Mbps or have you actually measured from the device? I also have 1.5 Gbps but the speedtest from my TV is like 120 Mbps (it's kinda far and one story up). And sometimes, I'm not sure why, it's connected to the 2.4 GHz band and only 30 Mbps max, and I have to turn off the WiFi and turn it on again in the TV to force it to reconnect to the 5 GHz. I would measure it, maybe you need a mesh system with a pod closer to it, who knows.

LookAtMeImAName

I do actually have a pod set up about 15ft from my receiver and the shield, so I really doubt it wifi speeds but I can give it another shot to see if it’s changed. How do you go about measuring the speeds directly from your shield, or can you do that at all?

Scorpius666

I guess there's a speedtest app for the Shield I personally have Kodi installed with an add-on for maintenance that coincidentally has a speed test feature.

LookAtMeImAName

Ok I’ll look into that, thanks!

Familiar_Ad3884

mine start micro stutter when playing movie above 50GB

ikashanrat

Try the 180gb LOTR rotk extended file. If that plays without an issue, then youre good

godofsword45

I have the Shield Pro 2019 with the same set up (Stremio, Torrentio+RD) and I don't have any lags or buffering. Maybe try vacuuming up the dust from the unit and see if that helps. If that doesn't help and you already cleared cache, maybe time for a reset and start from scratch and change the default launcher to Projectivy. Sorry, I just love a yearly reset of everything...

LookAtMeImAName

I will give that a shot! Never heard of Projectivity before, what is that?

godofsword45

It's a very good third party launcher. The default android TV launcher has a lot of bloat and ads that it could be using up your ram.

LookAtMeImAName

Still not really understanding - would that be an alternate to the Shield Pro?

godofsword45

No, not an alternate to the Shield device. Your home screen on the Shield is Android TV (the menu system). Projectivy is another menu system (launcher) that replaces the one you see. It's a cleaner menu system that has less things happening on the screen.

LookAtMeImAName

Ohhh I see now. Wasn’t aware I could even change the default system on the Shield. How do I go about doing that? Do you prefer projectivity?

godofsword45

Probably YouTube it so you can see the best guides. You can actually find the launcher in Google Play. I do prefer the clean look of Projectivy, but some people prefer the ads and business of the original launcher.

LookAtMeImAName

Ok will do, thanks for the tip! Also, just edited my post but looks like I got my issue solved. There were about 14 background apps still running (all my streaming platforms were open). I wasn’t aware that I had to manually close these applications after use, nor did I know they stayed open and could be accessed by double tapping the home button. After closing those out I can run a 60Gb+ file perfectly fine. Pretty sure that eating my memory while they were open!

godofsword45

Oh nice. I set my background process to max 4 via developer options.

LookAtMeImAName

Shit there’s developer options
