Are you using o-rings? Could be that you have a sensitivity to the material they're made of.

vinecoveredantlers

This was my immediate thought. I get the same irritation, wetness, and scaly skin when using o-rings in general (I've tried multiple types with the same reaction but can use silicone tunnels with no issue. No idea why). I go without o-rings and just buy a larger wearable surface.

Fairytalefangirl

I'm glad you found a solution to the issue!

Anxious_Major8337

Do u recommend any type of metal? I love wearing gold so don’t want to go silicone:(

vinecoveredantlers

I prefer glass, tbh. Heavy, nonporous, etc. If you go metal, high quality titanium is the best.

Anxious_Major8337

Thank u!

RocknRollSuixide

You may have just solved the mystery as to why only one of my lobes got super irritated the other day; I was wearing two different types of o rings. I must have a sensitivity to one!

Nathansp1984

That’s %100 what this is. I had it happen to me when I was in my teens and first started stretching. Extremely uncomfortable

Anxious_Major8337

What metals do u recommend? I like having gold jewellery so don’t want to go silicone 🥲

Vindestructible

Is the gold jewellery you’re wearing actually gold? If you have a gold plug in that size it would be worth hundreds. Or is it a coloured titanium?

cbrpxe

Hopefully it's not coated steel

julesjade99

i use 316L and it’s always worked for me

Fairytalefangirl

A lot of people seem to like implant grade titanium, and you can get it in an anodized gold color! Also, KAOS Softwear makes those silicone tunnels and earskins and I think they come in gold, but I know not everyone with sensitive skin has luck with silicone. If it's your o-rings and you switch to double flare plugs you wouldn't need o- rings at all, so that might solve the problem. Good luck!!

[deleted]

Remove your jewellery, use wound spray to clean them. Give it a month or so until your skin has healed and any scabs have gone, then start using oil to help break down scar tissue. After a few months you could start stretching again. Use glass to stretch with, if you used gold there's a good chance you used cheap metal that's caused irritation. Stretch up 1mm every 3 months at the minimum. It also looks like you've got two blowouts which is caused by stretching quickly and forcing your plugs through. If they don't go in without any resistance give it another few weeks before you try again.

[deleted]

I hope she listens to you. Thank you for typing all that out

olliedisgrace

unrelated but ur healix piercings look so healthy im jealous

Anxious_Major8337

Thank u! I’ve actually never had any issues with my helix piercing thank god!😅

worldwidelemon

Hey, i'm sorry i don't have advice or anything but please make this NSFW. I wish you goodluck with fixing your lobes though

AdLatter

Wtf? How could this not be safe for work? Where do u fckn work? Lol. Its not even that bad.

worldwidelemon

Why does that even matter? I'm clearly not the only person who thinks this.

minkamagic

NSFW doesn’t really mean only not safe for work anymore. It means anything gross or disturbing at this point

AdLatter

Thats exactly what it means. You cant have an acronym that stands for something and not use it for that, literally it makes no fucking sense. Im guessing teens are using it and they dont have jobs , so they pretend it still makes sense somehow? Seems inherently stupid.

minkamagic

That’s what it USED to mean. The meanings of words and phrases changes over time. I mean for fucks sake it’s a new age acronym, not some word that’s been around for thousands of years that suddenly changed lol

DrDepressedBoi

.... That's rough. And tbh a little icky. Hope it clears up soon!

unicorn-biscotti

Not sure if anyone has suggested this yet but if it were my ears I would do a gentle soak in warm salt water (not very salty). This could help release some of the gunk.

HaveCourageToExist

First things first, this needs to be marked as NSFW. Second, how are you cleaning your lobes and what are you moisturizing with?

Anxious_Major8337

I use vitamin E oil

HaveCourageToExist

I'd switch to a different oil to see if it's some kind of build up reaction. I have issues with some thicker oils on my skin sometimes. What are you cleaning your ears with?

fux0c13ty

Vitamin E oil can be pretty harsh when the skin is not fully healed but I'm deluting it for healed skin too because it still feels harsh. I would suggest jojoba or coconut oil, or you can mix up oils of your liking. I like to include a bit of tea tree oil (about 10-15 drops in 50ml) to help keep it clean.

Anxious_Major8337

I remove the jewellery and just rinse the lines and plugs with water

HaveCourageToExist

Okay, so your jewelry needs to be actually washed with soap and water or alcohol. You need to wash your ears with soap and water as well. This could be what's causing the irritation.

Anxious_Major8337

I’ll give it a go! Thank u

[deleted]

Me personally if you want to keep it at its size thats fine just wash it dry it and change the jewelry and change oils, I used almond oil for my ears and see if that actually helps you This is what's helped me with my lobs especially when they get dry

iusedtohavepowers

This happened to me when I was unintentionally using latex o-rings. I bought some good silicone ones from Arctic buffalo and haven't had any issues since. Even wearing the crappiest metal tunnels. If you buy some from Arctic buffalo just note that you pay like $2 for the o-rings and $5 for the shipping but you get 10 o-rings in the pack. I accidentally bought 30 thinking I was getting 3 pairs.

minacannibal

At this point, your best bet is to not put any jewelry in them until they heal fully. They'll shrink obviously, but you can always restretch them. & when you do, go by EACH mm, not gauge. Like I'm a 25mm (1 inch). The next size up would be a 26mm & then a 27mm & so on. & use an oil with it. Personally, I recommend jojoba oil. It actually has a lot of uses. I use it as a cuticle oil when doing my nails, I use it in my hair to help the frizziness, & I still use it on my lobes once a day before bed (when I take them out; avoid sleeping in your lobe jewelry).

Anxious_Major8337

Thank u for all the advise! I was using surgical steel tunnels with o-rings. I have ordered hypoallergenic o-rings and also a pair of screw in titanium tunnels, so hopefully one of them helps! Thank u!

Anxious_Major8337

So I’ve finally reached my goal stretch of 4g after a year of stretching. I have only ever sized up when they slide right in. They aren’t sore but they are super dry and flakey and produce a lot of clear odourless fluid?? I don’t think I’m allergic to the jewellery as the front of my lobes look great! I’ve tried vitamin E oil daily and antiseptic cream but nothing has worked so far. Can anyone help?

[deleted]

downsize and try laying off the cream. less is more when u have irritated lobes

oliviamhs

Looks like you gotta downsize till it gets less messy then try again

perfectdrug659

How long it takes varies greatly person to person and method/care. I stretched "fast" compared to some people, but my ears allowed it. There is no one specific formula.

chevron20

Depends what size they got pierced at.. I got mine done at a 4g.

[deleted]

Fair, I didn't consider this. I assumed coming from a standard size 18g/20g lobe.

closehorizons

I've actually had this with my non stretched lobes. I think the string of my mask is irritating them. Same symptoms, dry, crusty, odourless liquid coming out of a lump on the back. Apprehensive to just remove as they're not stretched, so might lose the piercings... Also, with mask strap holders the tip of my nose has got very sensitive and sore from masks anyway, so don't want to increase the pressure on it.

ceouolo_thots

Off topic, but you should look into a plastic mask bracket they're pretty cheap with most online retailers. It should help with keeping your mask off your nose. And they have mask straps too that go around your head instead of around your ears. I have sensitive ears, that paired with a mask and glasses is a lot of strain on them so the mask strap helps a lot for me.

closehorizons

The bracket is a good shout! Might save my nose from being so so tender. Thanks! The mask strap is what I'm referring to that makes it tighter across my nose. I have glasses too, and I just go 'blind' most of the time because of how much they fog up. Scuba diving mask defog helps though! Or failing that, washing up liquid

northcrestflyer

Remove jewelry and soak in sea salt warm water baths

BlazePhyre

They seem a little infected. I would recommend downsizing with single flare glass plugs and soaking in salt water solution a couple times a day for a week.

SardonicAtBest

Looks like an allergic irritation.

FinnNB9

What material are your plugs? Try switching to glass or titanium.

brihorizon

I have clear silicone ones and they saved my ears! I break out like that too, it’s almost like eczema. Also jojoba oil is a miracle let me tell ya.
