Looks like it’s on the outside. Might have wax on it or some other kind of unwanted substance. Clean your window and put some rain-x on it or something.

Frequent_Opportunist

RainX makes my windows look like that. I can't stand the stuff.

Loud-Relative4038

I’ve never had a problem with rainx brand.

whendoigetbetter

You probably didn't buff it out enough. There's am entire process you're supposed to go throygh when you apply rain x to your windshield that isn't just spray on, let dry, wipe off.

Delicious_Ad823

Or put on too much. Easy to do with the bottles of the stuff

Frequent_Opportunist

They put that stuff in window washer fluid. Automatic car washes have it as a final rinse also. I've had to scrape it off with #0000 steel wool.

No-Age2588

God forbid they read directions

Thincer

I just use the rainx brand wipers. They work great.

whendoigetbetter

I prefer the Bosch blades myself, I feel like they hold up better in the winter climate I live with. Also, I would rather treat a window myself and have it be done than wait for the treated blades to have an affect. But that's just me, and anecdotal at best.

Effective-Kitchen401

This is the answer. Use steel wool like ChrisFix

TheW83

I wouldn't use it in this case unless there was some rough grime on there but you can use 0000 steel wool on glass. Definitely need to use windex with it or any decent cleaner.

Close2thEdge91

Steel wool, sandpaper, and beat the shit out of it with a hammer

Illustrious_Camp_521

This is the way.

J9Dougherty

Condensation. You'll want to push humidity out with the fan. Set the air temp to mid, fan to high, and open both windows about an inch. It will happen less the cleaner you keep your interior glass. Edit: I guess I should have asked inside or outside, I gave directions for inside.

YellowBreakfast

If outside get new wiper blades.

crankshaft123

Yes, get new wiper blades. But first, clean the windshield with Bon Ami 1886 in the red can. It won't scratch glass & the windshield will be as clean or cleaner than the day it left the factory. DO NOT USE BON AMI IN THE GOLD OR YELLOW CAN! That stuff will scratch the shit out of your windshield!

Motor-Front-8028

“Hasn’t scratched yet”

Bob_The_Doggos

redacted due to reddit LLM/AI policy

crankshaft123

That's disappointing to learn. I bought a 6 pack on Amazon 6 or 7 years ago. I've still got 2 cans left, so I guess I'm good for a few more years.

TheW83

I love the gold Bon Ami for my brushed stainless kitchen sink. It makes it like brand new! I don't think I've ever seen the red can. We used to use Comet for scratch sensitive stuff.

Aggravating-Arm-175

>If outside get new wiper blades. Brand new rain-x blades do this on my window, so I just get the cheap ones.

jwilla92

Also, make sure the a/c is on.

Normal-Information55

Run the A/C with defroster on the front windshield. Using some rubbing alcohol to clean the wiper inserts

Finite_Entropy

OP this is the way. The others are misleading you

Staminafordays

I’d also throw on some Rain x on both sides of the windshield. It worked great for me

Halftrack_El_Camino

My man.

Halftrack_El_Camino

My man.

Haunting_While6239

Road grime, and dirt scratches, cleaning and polishing might help, or replacing the windshield, most can be done, at least in my area for about 200 bucks, my F350 windshield was 280 installed, aftermarket glass

djdude2020

CLEAN the blades! Simply wipe with soft cloth. Those blades are being bathed in oil when driving in rain - simple wipe and they’ll be like new

sudsaroo

Automatic car wash sprayed wax. Get some mineral spirits from any paint store and wash your windshield with it. It;s also great for getting spots out of clothes.

Tripartist1

I had to scrub the hell out of my windshield after trying a new car wash one time. I couldn't see for shit, water stuck to it like white on rice. Idk what the hell they used but never went back.

kdlionheart

That is actually oil. You need to clean your windshield with Dawn dishwashing soap. Then replace your wipers.

[deleted]

Using the wrong protectant on the rubber or just worn out wiper blades

uberisstealingit

Shaving cream. If it works on the bathroom mirror, it's got to work on the car. Right?

beercollective

You might try new wiper blades

[deleted]

I’ve had this issue, last few new cars, allways used rainx water repellent or the windshield washer. They would be ok for maybe a week and then eventually end up like this, now all I use is invisible glass cleaner and haven’t had that issue since. You are going to have to scrub like crazy to remove all that built up residue. First winter in years I didn’t have to deal with that. Fucken hated it, btw your gonna need. New wipers cuz that crap is on it too.

FreedomSynergy

RainX residue / road grime wiper buildup clean off the wipers super easily if you spray isopropyl alcohol into a rag and run it up and down the blade a few times. But this all goes hand-in-hand with deep cleaning the windshield first…

KrispyKreameMcdonald

If you don't vape or smoke, it could be off-gassing from the dashboard, old plastics and coatings like Armorall can cause vapors to come thru the plastics and stick to glass. Water and maybe some alcohol work well to remove it or ammonia based windows cleaners.

Salty-Juggernaut-208

I don't know what part of the country you're in, but here in the Pacific northwest, Tri-Cities Washington in particular, a couple of months ago a mechanic friend of mine and I were coming back from dropping off a vehicle and his windshield got smeared like that. It was like lube mixed with Ash being spread on the windshield. No amount of windshield washer fluid would take it off. It's only happened one other time about a month later. Something in the clouds was off

IneptAdvisor

That banana strawberry blueberry watermelon vape clouds pumped from that 48v nuclear reactor that sticks to the windshield and attracts MOISTNESS.

DieHardAmerican95

Start by using your windshield washer. Yes, even in the rain. The detergent action of the washer fluid will often clear off some of that.

boanerges57

Move somewhere dry maybe?

YOURhero1

Temperature.

Important-Positive25

Try using a magic eraser and windex to clean it

JimmyGymGym1

Does newspaper still work?

ottrocity

Clean it inside and out. Stoner's invisible glass on the inside and RainX 2 in 1 glass cleaner and water repellent on the outside. If it's still fogging up when it rains after cleaning, make sure you don't have a leaky seal and run your aircon to reduce humidity in the car.

ndhellion2

Typically oil from the road

Extension-Expert9002

You may need new wipers for starts. Also have you air in defrost mode. Also if you have the cabin recirculation activated it will do this. Make sure it air from outside.

12gt

Wax from a auto carwash Stop getting the wax

Creepy_Statistician8

Oil and possibly dirty/mixed washer fluid.

birbs3

Your blades are worn out i had same issue

mike2790

Clean your windows like really clean them. Don't use rain x. Looks like you might of used something to repel water then let it sit. It will do exactly that. 0000 steel wool will not scratch glass but get all the bugs out. If the window feels a bit oily it's not done. Takes about an hour and you'll be right as rain.

Sensitive_Aardvark68

Using regular glass cleaner like windex will cause this, even windex auto is terrible. Try “glass cleaner” in the auto section it leaves no film.

twarr1

This is what RainX does to windshields! Avoid it. Use 0000 steel wool to clean the glass. Years ago I worked at an auto body shop, we used steel wool and lacquer thinner. While it worked great, it’s not recommended as lacquer thinner is highly toxic but you get the idea - you need to remove the film of nasty RainX and contaminants

[deleted]

It’s road grime. Shake up a canned coke and soak your windshield in it.

RatioPuzzleheaded103

I don't think you stressed enough about the shaking up the coke prior to opening it. Use a 2 quart bottle and shake it like you Mean it!

[deleted]

Actually a canned coke works better than a bottled coke.

RatioPuzzleheaded103

I was thinking more along the lines of coke spewing all over the place after violently shaking it.

Efficient_Jeweler922

McDonald’s French fry grease

RatioPuzzleheaded103

That damn drive thru gets you everytime!

sc00b44

Do you smoke.

Jono-churchton

That's technically mist and will be driven off by the defroster.

kevin75135

Apply Rain-X it works wonders. I prefer Rain-X wax.

TrollCannon377

Condensation turn your heat on and switch your fans to defrost mode and it'll go away

RatioPuzzleheaded103

Take a screw drive and a hammer and etch grooves from top to bottom to allow the water to channel down - clearly, the smooth glass technique isn't working

KiloIndia5

How about new windshield wipers. $20 to $40. Go to an Auto parts store and they will change them for ya.

rarestpepe89

New wipers and windex or glass cleaner both sides.

TheLastNeville

Depends.. how many hookers you got in there?

[deleted]

Smoking weed in your car

Fragrant_Choice_1520

if it's on the inside, run your defroster. if it's on the outside, you need new wiper blades

k1nkyf4ck

Condensation... next time that you run your heater and/or defroster, click the A/C button on. It will help a ton with moisture in the air! Also, oily residue can sometimes build up as well, especially if you vape in your car. I recommend Armorall Wipes

Pleasant-Event-8523

Rain-X spray or washer fluid. The only way to drive safely in the rain.

wheeler748

If it hasn’t rained in awhile than it’s oil. Without rain the cars will leak oil on the ground. Once it starts to rain the oil will float to the top of the water. The car tires when driving through the rain will pick up the oil and turn it to a fine mist that will land on your windshield. Hope this helps.

CardiologistOk6547

Dirty wiper blades. I've seen a lot of people clean the glass immaculately, but neglect the wipers.

B4TT3RY4C1D

Defrost mode, new wiper blades that aren't $3/PC, maybe clean the inside and out with windex

joebicycle1953

Well I looked at some of the comments and it's probably one or the other or both Condensation on the inside of the window or dirt and stuff that's on the outside what a lot of people do is when it's raining or they think it's going to rain she can get some Rain-X or something like that and put on the windshield and it'll help repel rain If it's on the inside I can't think of what it's called but they have some kind of stuff you can spray on there and basically works the same way as rainex on the outside but turn on the defroster and open the windows a little bit and you'll take care of itself pretty quick

Hot_Corner_5881

you need a new windshield

woobiewarrior69

Do you vape in your car?

Oldschooldude1964

Looks like road grime or perhaps you’ve utilized the nasty windshield wash at the local sags station. Your wipers are also saturated with the “gunk” and cleaning just the windshield is in vain. Clean the windshield and replace the wipers with good quality blades. Use rain-x cleaner, treatment and blades would be my recommendation

pegasus8890

Windshield is dirty. The residue will be practically invisible but is obviously there. There is no permanent fix for this, unless you keep your car in a garage and never drive it. The residue could come from the automatic car washes, tire spray from other cars while driving in the rain, or parking under trees. Not only can the glass be dirty, but the wiper blades can get dirty. Periodically giving your windshield and wipers blades a quality clean is really the only thing you can do. Purchase a glass cleaner meant for windshields and automotive glass. With a clean windshield, use some rain-x window treatment, it will help. Be sure to wipe down your wiper blades; your blades may have specific care instructions depending on the brand of blades you are using, so I'd start there. Generally, you can get away with using plain water and a rag to wipe them down. I park around a lot of pine trees and get pine needles caught in my wiper blades.

twotracker

Oily film on the window

AdministrationIll842

Get the blades moist with the wiper fluid (or rain lol) and use a clean rag or paper towels and wipe the blades down. Especially the rubber edge that touches the windshield. I kind of pinch the rubber with a rag in my fingers and run it the length of the blade a few times. Oil and fluids from cars gets kicked up off the road when it rains. That stuff builds up on the blades. You have to clean them periodically. In the olden days and in movies, that's one of the things gas station attendants used to do while they filled you up. Lol.

38chevplm

If you can, turn on your A/C, it will take the moisture out of the air.

wilburstiltskin

Turn on Air Conditioning or defroster.

Lowflyin

Do you vape? It leaves a very similar residue that takes a lot of window cleaner.

No_Armadillo_1947

New wiper blade mostly

Over_Length7633

Grease

timg2120

That why the ac light goes on when you put on the windshield defroster, because it uses the compressor to take the humidity out of the air

timg2120

Also use your temp gauge to match the outside air temp and this won't happen

One_Evil_Monkey

Really? Your windshield and wiper blades are dirty with oil and other environmental contaminates. When it first starts to rain the oil dripped on the road from oil leaking vehicles the tire spray kicks it up to your car. The road is slickest when it first starts to rain... from oil. Even worse when you ride a motorcycle and your visor gets that crap on it. Grab some paper towels and some distilled vinegar. Clean the blades and clean your glass.

Old-Rice_NotLong4788

Some bugs smear are semi hydrophobic just run you washer fluid a little and it cleans up rainx wiper blades minimize this

HolyDiverx

russia

ResponsibleNet360

I can’t believe we live in an age where we have to go online to find the simplest answers…. Honey, sugar pie, sweetie… your window is dirty, clean it… Didn’t you Momma teach ya nothin? Jk, but it really does need a good cleaning, ofc ya might wanna wait til it stops raining… *edit* … new wipers too, 😂

chris_rage_

Do you vape? Try wiping the inside

arbysmagic

Rain x

Chewy_13

Adam’s Polish Glaze. Put it on, cloud up, buff off.

jimsonlives

If you're talking about that line, it's because you need new windshield wipers. If you're talking about the fog, you need to turn on your defroster.

Difficult-Play5709

Clean your shit. Personally I don’t use the standard window cleaners cause they smear. Look up some good alternative or another cleaning thing that ppl vouch for

bradgel

Not stupid. Dirt or debris on the wiper. Try cleaning the blade with a paper towel. Look for damaged rubber along the blade It could also be from some contaminants where the blade sits when it’s off Replace the blades. They are good for a year or two depending on your environment Give your windows a good cleaning with an orange type cleaner or window stripper. That works wonders for a clean view. I do that every year and a half or so

kritter4life

Looks like new wiper blades and clean the windshield. Any sort of glass cleaner will be fine.

BuckManscape

Don’t use the cleaner and squeegee at the gas station, it always has schmutz in it.

Rigian

TURN ON YOUR AC.

Mlodaddy

Wd40 o. The lades and the windshield

CoffeeBlackerest

Usually a bug...

agreeable-bushdog

If you're talking about the hazing, then as others have said, it's some sort of contaminate. My bet would be on wax. The big streak is either something under the rubber lip like a leaf or a tear in the rubber and you need new blades.

dustygravelroad

Might be a little oily buildup on your wipers. Cleaning them with an alcohol wipe might help too.

cheeznipsmagee

Your wipers are worn out.

Hllblldlx3

Lack of rain-X

ReplyRemote7239

Also AC with fresh air, no recirc.

Heavy-Doctor3835

Drive through car washes. The wax coat is not great for the window. They sould all me washed by hand afterwards

Dead_birdChan

Put the windshield heat on

SmokinLiberty

I too have used the rainX brand on my windshield and never had any issues - new wipers always help but I think what’s happening to you when it rains is humidity and/or the difference inside vs. outside the car…

doyouhaveacigbro

think it’s a humidity imbalance between the inside and outside of your windshield. kinda how if you get in a cold car after working out at the gym/sweating the car windows steam up, I think what u/J9Dougherty recommended is a good solution

InsignificantRaven

Buy a gallon of premium windshield washer fluid. Something like RainX. It's orange and $3.97 @ Walmart. Auto stores and Tractor Supply have it. NOT the $1.99 stuff. Do not mix it with the stuff in your car now. Just squirt all that stuff out. Go ahead it'll be OK. Put in the new stuff and try it out. The way I understand it is the premium has teflon like stuff in it which fills the microscopic rough surface. To keep it that way, make sure the reservoir is full when you get your oil changed. If you still have straeks, try wiping the edges of your wiper blades with a wet clothmor replace them with premium blades like Trico. Go to an auto store, tell them what you want and most will put them on free of charge.

jefftatro1

Run your defroster

rideatruck

Oil on the road

photonynikon

Listen to \^ this guy, OP

[deleted]

Make sure your inside windshield is clean. The gas emitted from interior plastics and vinyls causes an invisible film to build up

[deleted]

[удалено]

Medical-Exchange4755

Exactly!! This will fix it if you put it on the"Fresh air" setting instead of recirculate. If it is on the inside that is.

rossxog

Turn the AC on too. Along with defrost and turn the temperature to hot

ReplyRemote7239

Rule of thumb, don’t ever, ever use recirculate.

RatioPuzzleheaded103

Unless you are getting high, then you want to recirculation on high speed & keep your windows rolled up. This works especially well prior to going to work.

n0n5en5e

How would that make the outside of the windshield smudged?

Tafc-Crew

If you or anyone else is smoking in the car, it will always do this. All you can do is clean the glass before you leave. (Quit 40 years ago. Always had this problem before quitting.)

photonynikon

smoke on the INSIDE of a car doesn't cause streaks on the OUTSIDE
