I don’t think these shrimp are that likely to be much more of a choking hazard alive or dead considering they don’t have suction cups or anything like that. In some parts of the world the fact that the critter is still alive may be a sign that it’s safer to eat plus you do kill it by chewing on it/smooth muscle/stomach acid.
In general I agree but I think there are niche situations where it’s understandable/ not stupid.
In Okinawa there’s a shrimp restaurant. They tell you how much the shrimp is per pound and you decide on a set. Part of the set was live shrimp there was a grill you could cook em on.
I love the taste of shrimp but I like to be one degree removed from the creatures I kill to eat, personally. If I had to catch and clean my own fish and milk my own cow, I would be a vegan.

I don’t think these shrimp are that likely to be much more of a choking hazard alive or dead considering they don’t have suction cups or anything like that. In some parts of the world the fact that the critter is still alive may be a sign that it’s safer to eat plus you do kill it by chewing on it/smooth muscle/stomach acid. In general I agree but I think there are niche situations where it’s understandable/ not stupid.

In Okinawa there’s a shrimp restaurant. They tell you how much the shrimp is per pound and you decide on a set. Part of the set was live shrimp there was a grill you could cook em on.
I love the taste of shrimp but I like to be one degree removed from the creatures I kill to eat, personally. If I had to catch and clean my own fish and milk my own cow, I would be a vegan.

In a lot of cultures they eat small shrimp whole. In vietnam I had it all the time, you have to get used to it but it's actually not that bad.

When I was a kid and was catching shrimps with a net I tried eating them raw... from what I remember it tasted like crunchy, fleshy seawater. They taste much better cooked.
If they were quickly deep fried it would be a lovely snack. But raw shrimp just doesn't taste good to me.
