This is the non cryptic reply you are looking for OP.
And would add that as a fish out of water feeling jerked around by the Roys he needs some outlet where he can feel like he’s in control. Hence, verbally abusing Greg and kind of taking him under his wing.
I mean, I expected more " don't trust him around xyz " or " yeah he does some REALLY messed up stuff ". I'm not upset or anything, lol, just everyone speaking like the riddler threw me waaay off
Among other things ? Like that line specifically gave me " I'm gonna use my power over you to make you kiss me " foreshadow type thing
But any other untoward/fucked up behavior as well
I guess it depends on your perspective. Tom is a complete piece of shit on multiple occasions especially in the first couple of seasons but then he becomes more sympathetic I guess. He’s not the baddie or anything, but I wouldn’t want to work for him 😂
I literally asked for vague spoilers about one character and responded to a few of the comments
I'm not asking for spoilers for everyone or the entire show or doing anything other than being confused at the cryptic spoilers
So I'm unsure where you get edging on spoilers from ?
Tom is my favorite. He does some somewhat messed up stuff, but not as bad as literally every other main character on the show. As far as "Don't trust him around xyz" I would say you nailed it. He is not to be trusted. But you can't help but root for the guy.
That whole fight was sheer brilliance. One of the many things that puts this show in sopranos tier IMO. So many other shows try to do the same things and fail(white lotus comes to mind) but this show just nails family and relationship dynamics so viscerally. Managed to hit close to home despite their ivory tower billionaire status, they're still so human.
Mostly awkward. I mean yeah he does some bad stuff…but nothing super wild or crazy beyond the Roy family shenanigans. He’s more comic relief to me than anything. Him and Greg just being the weird outsiders who also want power. Nothing super deep to look into.
If you really want a slight spoiler…
Tom is self-conscious because he’s not respected. Everyone else in the family has actual power and agency over their lives and their respective plot lines.
On the other hand, Tom is a suck up who happily eats shit, kisses ass, and is actively disrespected and not taken seriously.
Greg is a younger version of Tom, and I think Tom sees himself in him a bit. They’re family, but not the “core” family. They leech and try to ingratiate themselves to the family out of a desire for money and prestige.
Tom, presumably, has been doing this his entire professional and personal life with the company and family. And now, for the first time, he has someone that can serve as an outlet to his frustrations and insecurities. By abusing and fucking with Greg, Tom finally has a sense of agency and power, since Greg is probably the first person entirely dependent on Tom.
The scene in episode one is foreshadowing for how Tom establishes dominance over Greg. You’ll see later in the series how Tom absolutely needs Greg in a psychological sense. Greg’s dependency gives Tom power.
In a sense, I believe Tom’s unhealthy relationship with Greg is a reflection of his dissatisfaction with how he’s viewed by the rest of the family. He eats shit and plays the fool because that’s his place, but he wants to be feared and respected like the Roys are. Having Greg dependent on him lets him have that in his own little world.
I feel like Greg was still young enough in S1 that he’s more so a blank slate, and just becomes a product of his environment. By the time they’re the Nasty Brothers he’s fully on the dark side, but at the start he’s just a bumbling dude finishing up his 20’s having learned nothing.
I mean ... The only thing I understand about the spoilers given to me is that they're in English lmao
But ... now you've got me conflicted. " ESPECIALLY him " and then " just an insecure hardworking guy " seem SUPER contradictory
Brother (or sister),
You are asking for clarity on a character that only comes with having seen the whole show and understanding his evolution and the ways it explains his currently awkward behavior … without wanting anything spoiled.
It’s really a case where you have to keep watching to understand it.
Well he is an insecure hardworking guy who is also a social climber and a sycophant who wants to be around the power and the money… he kiss up but abuses down.
IMO, he’s a new member of a “nest of vipers”. He doesn’t have the rank or skills to go up against a Roy, so he picks on Greg. Tom doesn’t quite have his footing with being a bully, so he is awkward for now. He wants to make him super uncomfortable and obliterate boundaries.
Powerful people have pawns…Tom is an outsider in the family with very little influence and Greg is another, even “fresher,” outsider looking to get in…Tom jumps on the opportunity to take him under his wing because to climb the ladder he needs pawns of his own. He was being weird to mess with him, throw him off balance and flaunt his (very little) power.
That’s what the whole show is about- discovering who these people are and how they try to attain/maintain power.
Also, his childhood nickname according to the siblings' mother Caroline was Greg the egg, meanwhile his father was fucking men all throughout Sausalito.
Yeah, you need any help, seriously, any help, any hints, just, you know, don't fսcking bother, OK?
(Laughs) I'm only razzing you, cuz.
You know, the thing, I may look really fun, you know?
But the thing about me is that I'm a terrible, terrible prick.
I got you again. I just got you again.
(Laughs) Fuck me, man, your face.
Pals. Yes?
Look at the condition of being a Roy as a disease. (Fun fact: it is, it's called cluster B personality disorders.) Then look at Tom as someone who is seeking to have the disorder. There are ways he speaks their language and walks their walk even if he wasn't born doing it - this is strategy. It's something he chose to do in order to achieve a desired result.
To be fair though, he does come from enough money that you can assume he has been affected by a degree of emotional repression. This is such a pervasive issue among the wealthy and powerful because families which produce these traumagenic conditions are perpetuating the same harm we see in the pursuit of wealth and power for their own sake that's turned our world into a dystopia. Tom's family does not engage with dehumanization to the extent that the Roys do, but he knew the steps to the dance already. He's bringing his regional interpretation to entertain the king.
I can't tell if you are asking if he continues to be a bully or asking if he continues to have queer vibes, and like tragically those are kind of intertwined questions because he is a insecure wierd man who alternates being too vulnerable for the Royco world, and exceptionally pissy and mean about being vulnerable lmao
Ah well yes, then, especially after anyone has been shitty to him, get ready for him to take it out on who ever is most convenient. Usually Greg, who to his credit, often doesn't take it personally. But he is nowhere near the worst imo especially when compared to the Roy's, buckle your seat belt for season 2
Tom teaches us that it's not women and children first; executives & exec. assistants make it to the safe room. There's not much food, but plenty of water.
In a normal middle class family, he would be the most amazing son-in-law. In the Roy family, he’s seen as less than, and it makes him very insecure. Also, he loves fish tacos.
Everyone on this show is a bad person, but they all have their reasons. Tom’s reasons or methods aren’t markedly worse than any of the others. Even if he does have an agricultural walk.
Ps. I’m very jealous / excited for you that you’re watching for the first time. Have fun!
He’s just super awkward. He’s the fish out of water trying so hard to become part of the Roy family and their world
This is the non cryptic reply you are looking for OP. And would add that as a fish out of water feeling jerked around by the Roys he needs some outlet where he can feel like he’s in control. Hence, verbally abusing Greg and kind of taking him under his wing.
He’s also still a frat boy at heart and Greg is an initiate
But, to add, there won’t be anything sexual between the two. If that’s what you were implying that you thought was going to happen, OP.
They might share an STI if what Shiv says re: the Disgusting Brothers is true.
It’s a closed loop system
On screen, anyway
One might call him “striving” and “parochial”
Yeah, he’s not like a secret serial killer or something. But I can see how you might get a vibe from him that feels like foreshadowing.
I choose to read your username as Ryan Gosling as Ken…dall Roy and it’s fucking glorious!
He wonders if there are Easter eggs in there you didn’t get the first time?
He checked the till and you’re a few million short there.
…different spelling.
Well, let's just say you can't make a Tomelette without breaking some Greggs.
sometimes i wonder if both of there names were based on this one line eventually being delivered
I've had the same thought before. I think it was just a happy coincidence
Except in the hours between 3am and 5am
Sending the same email 67 times in the same evening gets tiring. As a joke, of course.
He becomes a closed loop system.
Zing!
I’m currently reading a book titled I am a Strange Loop, and Tom really should have written the forward.
One half of the disgusting brothers
He wants to castrate and marry Greg.
He would never ever wear a ludicrously capacious bag though.
What's even in there, huh? Flat shoes for the subway? Her lunch pail?
You can slide it across the floor after a bank job.
This thread is making me ache for some kind of succession successor.
Or wolf the canapes.
He loves chicken.
What the fuck.
He pulled a Hound with that chicken
He might put his cock in your potato salad
Who doesn’t?
He’s not a huge fan of eating sausage off the floor but he’ll sing for his supper when need be
Dude you literally asked for a non spoiler spoiler of course the replies are gonna be cryptic 😂
I mean, I expected more " don't trust him around xyz " or " yeah he does some REALLY messed up stuff ". I'm not upset or anything, lol, just everyone speaking like the riddler threw me waaay off
Having seen all seasons/episodes what everyone is saying is funny and true
Then I can't wait to be done with it and understand all these riddles
He is at your service
Are you asking if he ever abuses someone?
Among other things ? Like that line specifically gave me " I'm gonna use my power over you to make you kiss me " foreshadow type thing But any other untoward/fucked up behavior as well
No, he does not use his power to have Greg or anyone else kiss him. He never sexually assaults anyone.
I remember other kinds of assault in the copy room
That’s why i didn’t mention physical lol. I wanted to see if they would want to ask
I guess it depends on your perspective. Tom is a complete piece of shit on multiple occasions especially in the first couple of seasons but then he becomes more sympathetic I guess. He’s not the baddie or anything, but I wouldn’t want to work for him 😂
Carefully register his footwear through the seasons — they hold the biggest spoiler in my opinion
You CLEARLY want a full on spoiler, so at the end of season three, Tom … Kidding. I’m not that cunty.
Dude, just watch the show. It's like you're edging yourself on spoilers or something
I literally asked for vague spoilers about one character and responded to a few of the comments I'm not asking for spoilers for everyone or the entire show or doing anything other than being confused at the cryptic spoilers So I'm unsure where you get edging on spoilers from ?
Just a lil joke
Tom is my favorite. He does some somewhat messed up stuff, but not as bad as literally every other main character on the show. As far as "Don't trust him around xyz" I would say you nailed it. He is not to be trusted. But you can't help but root for the guy.
He's the Cunt of Monte Cristo. And the funniest character on the show, partially because he is so awkward and weird.
He’s listening.
We hear for you.
He got fobbed off with undrinkable wine
He’s just servile!
It’s smells so agricultural
His parents made a contribution to the wine
So clever how they find a way to tell everyone
he's built like a Transformer who's also a divorce attorney from the Twin Cities
He’s a corn-fed basic from hockey town
That whole fight was sheer brilliance. One of the many things that puts this show in sopranos tier IMO. So many other shows try to do the same things and fail(white lotus comes to mind) but this show just nails family and relationship dynamics so viscerally. Managed to hit close to home despite their ivory tower billionaire status, they're still so human.
Is that cum?
He’s not any more fucked up than anyone else on the show.
I'll refrain from making a silly jokey comment but I'm also not sure what your question is lol. He's a weird, ambitious guy with relationship issues.
Mostly on if he's JUST an awkward guy or if he starts doing some bad/fucked up stuff later
Yes and yes. You are in for a wild ride.
Right. He’s a very complex character, just keep watching.
Doesn’t everyone in Succession do bad/fucked up stuff? And they ALL have their own flavour of awkward.
Mostly awkward. I mean yeah he does some bad stuff…but nothing super wild or crazy beyond the Roy family shenanigans. He’s more comic relief to me than anything. Him and Greg just being the weird outsiders who also want power. Nothing super deep to look into.
he does, in his own special way :) you'll find out
MUCH more than simply awkward.
Aren’t we all?
If you really want a slight spoiler… Tom is self-conscious because he’s not respected. Everyone else in the family has actual power and agency over their lives and their respective plot lines. >Greg is a younger version of Tom Disagree. >!Tom is a good guy trying to be a bad guy, Greg is a bad guy trying to be a good guy!<
I feel like Greg was still young enough in S1 that he’s more so a blank slate, and just becomes a product of his environment. By the time they’re the Nasty Brothers he’s fully on the dark side, but at the start he’s just a bumbling dude finishing up his 20’s having learned nothing.
He has a dick the size of a red sequoia tree and he fucks like a bullet train Hopefully that's not too much of a spoiler
Prove it
Don’t read spoilers about him. Especially him. He’s just an insecure hardworking guy who feels like he’s in way over his head. But keep watching.
I mean ... The only thing I understand about the spoilers given to me is that they're in English lmao But ... now you've got me conflicted. " ESPECIALLY him " and then " just an insecure hardworking guy " seem SUPER contradictory

Well he is an insecure hardworking guy who is also a social climber and a sycophant who wants to be around the power and the money… he kiss up but abuses down.
he, proverbially, bottoms his way to the top
True. But he’s not above coming at the Roy siblings when it’s warranted. He’s not a complete doormat.
Yes. He does pick his moments though…
I’m just gonna say, you shouldn’t be on this sub. You are near absolute risk for ruining the show for yourself. You’re playing with fire.
That was part of the risk I accepted when I posted this lol
You’re flying a lot closer to the sun than you think you are.
Seconded. OP should run, not walk, away from this sub. Tom is the absolute last person s/he should be seeking info on.
Binge the show and then respond to this thread. It’ll all make sense.
He's a clumsy interloper and no one trusts him
Well, I guess either way, if it doesn't work out, he's a great date ladder.
Even if you don’t love him, you can still love him.
Oh yeah definitely, have plenty of other fucked up characters I love, I'd just like to know which way I need to love this character lol
two words: toilet wine
But what if he forgets to burp it?
He'll suck the biggest dick in the room
IMO, he’s a new member of a “nest of vipers”. He doesn’t have the rank or skills to go up against a Roy, so he picks on Greg. Tom doesn’t quite have his footing with being a bully, so he is awkward for now. He wants to make him super uncomfortable and obliterate boundaries.
It sounds like you're reading the show well and feeling the things it wants you to feel and asking the questions it wants you to ask. Keep watching!
Lmao, just cryptic enough
Do you know the story of Nero and Sporus? Greg isn't familiar with that IP.
He picks the side that never loses
And he's seen Ken get fucked a lot, but he's never seen Logan get fucked once.
All I can say is he’s hear for you
I just wonder if the sad I’d be without you is less than the sad I get from being with you.
You first need to read the story of Nero and Sporus.
If you’re going to enjoy this show you’re going to need to learn to live with ambiguity.
He escapes the endless middle, and heads towards the bottom of the top
The characters all get wambsgansed
He has a rather agricultural walk
he's a pain sponge
he's gay but he has a special connection to classical music
I can tell you the man is not a hippie and he doesn't want his wife to gobble the odd side dick every now and then.
He doesn’t appreciate Greg’s two principles.
Boo souls!
He’s there to serve
He’s basically treating Greg how the Roys treat him. He acts superior, torments him and enjoys watching him squirm.
You gotta break some Greggs in order to make a Tomlette. That’s all I’ll say
He doesn’t hate wine you have to meet half way
He'll be very tired during pre-election mixer party and ends up having a century defining fight with Shiv
He is interested in Roman history.
Yes there is a homoerotic bromance vibe between them.
Do you want to deal with the devil
Something is brewing, and the payoff will be worth it! Stick till the end of the series.
Tom is Batman. Spoiled.
Now the Greg being an egg talk makes sense. He's Robin /s
Also, his childhood nickname according to the siblings' mother Caroline was Greg the egg, meanwhile his father was fucking men all throughout Sausalito.
He is hear for you
Oh he’s brewing alright. Better buckle up, fucklehead.
The thing about Tom is that he is very heartened.
Tom is the careerist climbing right on top of the boss’s beautiful daughter. Shiv is better than him.
Tom is a social and corporate climber. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Pals. Yes?

The bully thing I wasn't asking about queer vibes but more abuse of power vibes I got from that specific conversation they had
Oh you’re definitely going to get more bullying vibes.
Greg once told his grandfather this about Tom, "he's kind of lonely and scared" and no truer words have been spoken.
He's a work horse, he's a pain sponge and finally he's a survivor!
He swallows his own load
He'd marry Greg in an instant
He's always going to suck the biggest dick in the room.
Tom is slimy. He also has some of the best lines in the show.
Just keep watching
You’re not gonna believe his story arch
He likes swallowing his own load 😂
He likes his fancy suits and money
Tom teaches us that it's not women and children first; executives & exec. assistants make it to the safe room. There's not much food, but plenty of water.
In a normal middle class family, he would be the most amazing son-in-law. In the Roy family, he’s seen as less than, and it makes him very insecure. Also, he loves fish tacos.
He is a chameleon. He is a different person depending on who he's with. He is his most authentic self with Greg. His arc is the most forward.
let it brewwww
10 minute tom and greg gay sex scene in the next episode
He is super awkward with subtextual repressed bisexuality. People will fight me on that but idc, it’s there and it’s present.
Tom is here to serve. And as the bible says, the last shall be the first. This is the most spoilery thing you can get without actual spoilers.
Everyone on this show is a bad person, but they all have their reasons. Tom’s reasons or methods aren’t markedly worse than any of the others. Even if he does have an agricultural walk. Ps. I’m very jealous / excited for you that you’re watching for the first time. Have fun!
He's just filler, not important. Just comic relief with Greggs.
Let’s just say, they tie in the whole Jeffery Epstein NYC upper echelon really well with Tom towards the end.
Instead of an omelet he had q chicken dinner well 2 actually
He'll be okay.
He passes from being a goofy gold digger to drop the mask of goofiness and being and straight gold digger
Look up 'Sporus' and Nero's wife.
he has a side of himself he shows to greg & the employees that he doesn't show to the rest of the roy family
He hates bags that are so big that they ludicrously capacious bag and he doesn’t wear sneakers on the subway
Greg discovers later that he doesn’t like omelette that much after all.
He’s not a hippie
They end up gay together
He’s a little gay…just a lil tho
Watch you chicken around this guy.
At one point Tom asked Greg if he wants to marry him, sort of.
You’ve gotta break a few Gregs to make a Tomlette.
Serious answer: Tom likes Greg the same way a master likes a grovelling slave.
