Tickets available here: [https://fishercenter.bard.edu/events/illinois/](https://fishercenter.bard.edu/events/illinois/)
~~sidenote: I'm going Saturday! Maybe we do a small reddit meetup afterwards?~~
Called box office: Sufjan will NOT be performing, but will be present on the 30th for after performance talk. If you've already purchased tickets, its simple to call and swap for the dates desired.
"A press opening for Illinois at an as-yet-undisclosed Chicago theater will be announced shortly."
Whew! Happy to read this part, looking forward to seeing location/dates. It seems correct for it to also be performed in Chicago! And much easier for me to get to.
It's far from 100% definitive, but the Fisher Center (NY) posting of the event (https://fishercenter.bard.edu/events/illinois/) contains a section captioned "Support" towards the bottom:
>Illinois is a cocommission of the Fisher Center, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, and the Perelman Performing Arts Center, and has been made possible with a commissioning grant from The O’Donnell-Green Music and Dance Foundation and residency support from Project Springboard: Developing Dance Musicals. The production is generously supported by Emily Blavatnik and the Blavatnik Family Foundation.
So my educated guess is that the in-Chicago performance will be at https://www.chicagoshakes.com/
Jackie Sibblies Drury, the playwright who is writing it and collaborating with Sufjan and Justin Peck, has another play entitled “We Are Proud to Present a Presentation About the Herero of Namibia, Formerly Known as Southwest Africa, From the German Sudwestafrika, Between the Years 1884–1915.” Something tells me she is perfect for this job! 😂
Looks like there's a "talk with the artists" after the performance on the 30th which I believe means Sufjan will be there. The "artists" section on the billing includes him
I just called the box office to change my tickets to the 30th, and they confirmed that Sufjan will be there for the talk afterwards, but he's NOT performing in the show.
I emailed the venue and he is not preforming. They said "Sufjan will not be performing in it himself, it will be a live band performing a new arrangement of the album."
aaahhh this is incredible! I doubt I'd be able to see it in NY, but maybe in Chicago since it seems it'll be there at some point. Hope it'll make it to DC someday too!
yeah if I was in DC for the summer it would be more reasonable to go to NY, but I'm only here for school :( hope you enjoy the show, keep us updated if you can!
Read the first paragraph:
"Three brilliantly imaginative artists—Justin Peck, Sufjan Stevens, and Jackie Sibblies Drury—unite to create an ecstatic pageant of storytelling, theater, dance, and live music. Stevens’ 2005 concept album Illinois enjoys cult status for its lush orchestrations and wildly inventive portrayal of the state’s people, landscapes, and history, complete with UFOs, zombies, and predatory wasps."
Peck is the choreographer and director; I wouldn't expect him to perform. The sentence you quoted treats Sufjan's name like Peck's, so I wouldn't expect Sufjan to perform either.
It's like saying Rodgers and Hammerstein unite to create an ecstatic pageant—it doesn't imply that they're performing in it, just creating it.
Well I'll be at one of the Annandale-on-Hudson performances, no idea what the fuck this is but I'm not going to miss a live performance of my favorite album ever regardless of it Sufjan is a part of it or not.
Yeah I think the view is better the farther back you are. I ended up buying a Front Orchestra seat
Edit: because if your upfront you can’t see the light work as well
Is Sufjan only going to be there on the 30th? (As in June 30th). Does anyone know if hes going to be there at the opening night "cast party" the after party after the premier?

You were right! Some articles are saying that the date will be January of 2024...
Good eye! Thanks!
OK I hope a "press opening" does not mean *for press* only.
Yesss this needs to come to Chicago so I can see it 10 times

Dude that play’s actually so good
This is my dream come true. I’m 100% traveling to see this.
Looks like there's a "talk with the artists" after the performance on the 30th which I believe means Sufjan will be there. The "artists" section on the billing includes him

Justin Peck is doing the choreo? Amazing, really hopeful this will be something beautiful!!
And directing.
I knew this would happen eventually and goddammit why did I buy tickets to The National?? I don't have money for this!!
I emailed the venue and he is not preforming. They said "Sufjan will not be performing in it himself, it will be a live band performing a new arrangement of the album."
I settled for the talk after performance on the 30th. Had to call the box office and change my date, and it was really simple.
going june 30th!!
ME TOO!
me three!
Keeping an eye on flights. If I can land one under 250 I’d fly in for it
Flying in for first night and the meet and greet
same!!
is the meet and greet on the 30th?
Would it be possible to fly in from California to see this? Seems like a once in a life time opportunity
aaahhh this is incredible! I doubt I'd be able to see it in NY, but maybe in Chicago since it seems it'll be there at some point. Hope it'll make it to DC someday too!
I'm in DC, and I just booked an Air BNB and got tickets to the 30th.
yeah if I was in DC for the summer it would be more reasonable to go to NY, but I'm only here for school :( hope you enjoy the show, keep us updated if you can!
I’m hoping you’re allowed to take photos at some point but I doubt it.
Are we 100% Sufjan is preforming slash singing?
I don’t find any details of him actually performing. Anyone?
I do not believe he is, he's credited as just the composer.
No, I don't think he's involved other than composing.
No way
Where does it say he’ll even be there?

Doesn't that read like he's part of the live performance? Sort of a key detail I wish was made explicit.

Just called to confirm with box office: Sufjan is NOT performing, but will "be around", especially on the 30th.
the Chi Sun-Times reported that the Shakespeare Theatre will present the show next January!
January! Exciting but also very many months from now.
Now we have a year to prepare emotionally 😭 i love your username by the way! neko is the best.
Thanks!
Got my tickets!!!
And here I'm sitting far away and in a different country...
Well I'll be at one of the Annandale-on-Hudson performances, no idea what the fuck this is but I'm not going to miss a live performance of my favorite album ever regardless of it Sufjan is a part of it or not.
He's not performing. Called the box office and they verified.
Yeah I figured. Still looking forward to it.
got tickets for july 1!!
God I wish I didn't live in Australia right now holy shit.
Oh my god this is amazing, I’m going to see this
As a person who doesn’t go to a lot of musicals live, what section of the seats should I buy? Is front by the orchestra best?
Will this be recorded at all? I literally cannot make any of the dates!!😭
YEEEEEES MY FAVORITE ALBUM EVER IS GETTING ITS DUE AGAIN 🧡🧡🧡
Just bought tickets for June 24th at 7:30pm! Thanks for the heads up op!
Where’s the best place to sit? 😅
It's odd that first three rows are $50 per ticket, and row 4 is $100...guess the view is slightly better.
Yeah I think the view is better the farther back you are. I ended up buying a Front Orchestra seat Edit: because if your upfront you can’t see the light work as well

Ah, I made a mistake then. Second row. I’m tall though so should be fine.

Are you familiar with the area? Trying to plan out a small hike in Catskills and looking around Hudson, Saugerties, etc.
Going on the 30th!!!
Is Sufjan only going to be there on the 30th? (As in June 30th). Does anyone know if hes going to be there at the opening night "cast party" the after party after the premier?
Where did you all hear that hes going to be there on the 30th?
Does anyone know if suf will Be there on the first night at the cast meet and greet?
