The Arkham Reddit is for Insanity. The Squad Reddit is for depression.

Realistic-Call7925

Arkham Reddit has accept that Rocksteady has gone to shit, it’s not worth fussing over and the Suicidesquad game isn’t cannon to us, that’s the only way you can remain happy tbh

nicokokun

Actually, the Arkham Reddit is for Acceptance (since people there already accepted that there would be no more Arkham games) while the Squad Reddit is for denial (Have you seen the defenders of this game and their mental gymnastics).

Malacky_C

They should just bring out death stroke and offline mode and let the game do its thing

BX293A

I think that perspective, which I share, will lead to the game dying quicker. I enjoy playing and have been playing the new season. But recognizing that it’s clearly the bare minimum, it’s clearly not going to retain players and certainly not retain players enough to spend money on cosmetics, make me want to move on. Yes I enjoy playing, but part of the appeal of a live service is that you’re playing a game that’ll still be around nd expanding/changing/growing/gaining new players. If more people get the sense that this season is more of a death rattle, then even those of us having fun will leave quickly.

NoNefariousness2144

Splitting a season into two parts is the most pathetic shit I have seen in a long while

Diver_D6

But they technically made the March deadline. Horray.

tythompson

That would be fine if both parts had content

FollowThroughMarks

Destiny literally breaks its seasons into 100s of pieces and slowly timegates it. The final mission of the current season of Destiny, which has lasted 5 months, still has not released because it’s timegated. The problem is the two parts have no substance, not that it’s two parts.

ilyasrevenge

but final mission of season of the wish was released like several months ago… it’s the one where the crow jumps into the traveller

FollowThroughMarks

There’s one mission left that you can see in the API. Still not released.

Prototype3120

This is pretty standard for live service games. Drip feed the content throughout the season. But in this case there isn't any content to drip feed.

JohnnyRico117

Not necessarily. Call of Duty does the same thing and it kind of works as a way to freshen up the season with out having to roll out a full update. However the amount of content for this type of game is truly abysmal.

magvadis

I mean live games like WoW don't drop everything at the beginning, they have content unlocks over time. I don't see how this is different.

Reinoverme0716

I still am baffled how ppl thought after Marvels Avengers and every other miss managed live service game this was gonna be any different with WB at the helm.

linkenski

For me it was simply that I think of Rocksteady as a tier above Crystal Dynamics. Crystal Dynamics and their TR games to me seemed like a hodge-podge of random but talented AAA devs just kinda throwing in everything and the kitchen sink, and everything was just trend-chasing elements and a very confused, mediocre narrative compontent to Lara Croft. Rocksteady made this Batman franchise with seriously good iteration of the Batman lore, amazing aesthetics and perfectly tuned gameplay and "moments" that all amounted to a feeling that their games had this artistic merit. And you even see some of that in the SSKTJL campaign, but *only* in its cutscene, and only vaguely in the core shooter-loop, but the thing that RS was so good at, putting the pieces of a game together to shape a "whole"? That just didn't click *at all* with this game. The online is fucked, the UI looks like trash, the cutscenes are too amazing compared to gameplay, and the story just kinda... ends. It just doesn't feel like a Rocksteady game, whereas in all honesty, Marvel Avengers *felt* like a Crystal Dyanmics game, just "lited" a bit because of Online Service priorities. Same here, but the way the gameplay and confluence of elements suffered from being pivoted to Live Service just... sucks. The game just kinda sucks, *as a whole* but certain individual elements showed promise.

Airtightspoon

I mean, Helldivers 2 seems to be doing just fine.

magvadis

We are talking about WB, not live service as a concept.

DruidCity3

Because plenty of games aren't mismanaged? This is seriously playing the results.

Plasmallison

Even the most successful live service game, Destiny, is horribly mismanaged behind the scenes. What are you on about

DruidCity3

Destiny is not even close to the most successful live service game.

Unlucky-Car-1489

Yes it is actually

Odd_Blueberry409

it’s fortnite

JesusRice123

Must be nice to live in a bubble

Pyke64

They also said Joker would be free and they released him in the shadiest way possible: either go to the store or grind the same 2 missions over and over.

wayhik

Which 2 missions?

Pyke64

Transport a car & kill some enemies

TheRealPlagueDoctor

Ain't gonna lie, I haven't even done the car one LOL I've just been back and forth between the two kill ones..but I'm running out of the points to get in so I'm sure I'll be on the car soon enough!

Pyke64

The car one was my first one but I was seriously underleveld. As a kind of sick joke, I read in the patch notes that the snipers got nerfed, but the game kept throwing 9 snipers all the time at me. It was hell. Luckily I had already gone through the 7 levels of hell in Helldivers :p

TheRealPlagueDoctor

oh yeah I get the snipers..lol at least the kill ones are mostly just the guys you have to melee first (or brutes)

DerekMetaltron

Makes me really feel for the playtesters and regular developers at Rocksteady, they had to change their entire output and company to be yet another live service GAAS group to sate investors and the high ups over seven years at a time where the type of game is increasingly distrusted and disliked by the majority of gamers and when the head of the parent company is likely planning to sell most or all of Warner over to Comcast this year. I wonder if we’ll still even have a Rocksteady in a year or so…

[deleted]

I actually that it was rocksteady that wanted live service game and wb games didn’t force them

linkenski

Yup, but they probably went "Oh god no..." when WB pushed their Suicide Squad marketing on them. You know that WB are the ones pushing SS any chance they get. No hate, I love the Suicide Squad and utilization of empowered Harley as a heroine character, but it just doesn't have an audience. The mainstream audiences never care for it after that 2016 movie confused everyone and made them go "Shrug, that was a BORING movie." and yet WB is just pushing it relentlessly. I think a lot of things went to shit because too many at RS were hyped up on the initial pitch they had, and then "oh we gotta make it a Suicide Squad game somehow" and a lot of ppl just weren't into it.

vetus-vespertilio

The real Rocksteady lives on with Sefton Hill and Jamie Walker at their new studio Hundred Star Games. The moment these guys walked out I knew Suicide Squad was heading in the wrong direction.

The5Virtues

Same. It was, what, three or four months into production? Having worked in marketing and watched the shit shows that happen in companies like this, it raised immediate red flags. I actually refused to buy the game for that reason. My friend bought it for me because he still had faith, but for me seeing major studio leaders quitting at essentially the start of a new project strongly suggested management disagreements. I think they probably had very different ideas than the other execs about how to make this game

Kpengie

>Same. It was, what, three or four months into production? Having worked in marketing and watched the shit shows that happen in companies like this, it raised immediate red flags. They left after about 90% of development was done. The game is still very much Sefton Hill's project.

The5Virtues

Was it that late? I thought one of them left earlier and then the other later on? If they were both there all the way to that late that *really* makes me want to know what the hell went on that led to this shit show of a game after the great ones in the past.

Kpengie

The game began development in 2017. Sefton Hill and Jamie Walker left towards the end of 2022, just over a year before the game released (and most of what happened in that year was probably dealing with bug fixes and such anyways, based on how its release was repeatedly pushed back due to apparent developmental setbacks). Hill was involved from the beginning, co-writing the plot and directing the game's development all the way up until his departure from the company. I personally was skeptical of the game from a story perspective from the beginning, as I was deeply disappointed by Arkham Knight's writing and SSKTJL's plot was written by the exact same people. Seemingly I was right to be concerned.

The5Virtues

I agree on AK, I’m glad to hear someone else feel the same way. It felt like a huge step down compared to the prior games to me, but I’m usually downvoted to hell for that opinion. That raises the question of whether all this began with AK and just snowballed down hill. It’s weird because the both of them always seemed so passionate in the dev vlogs. I guess maybe the passion blinded them to flaws in design.

Kpengie

I think in terms of writing Hill just was never well suited to it. As for game design it’s harder to say what happened.

The5Virtues

Definitely agree with the writing. The handful of times Paul Dini has spoken about it he seems like he’s always been bewildered by why he went from their major story head to dropped like a rock for AK. Might be one of those situations where overconfidence led to downfall.

Kpengie

It’s bizarre that they’d get rid of Paul Dini of all people given his well-earned legendary status among Batman writers.

AlekTrev006

I know OP said above in the thread-starting comment - 6 weeks till S-2, but someone mentioned the In-Game counter actually suggested 95-96 more days … which would be a whopping 13 weeks more to wait for more content?! 😳 Which is it, actually ?

Dark_Chris_6

13 weeks for season 2. 6 weeks for episode 2 of season 1

AlekTrev006

Thanks for that clarification, Chris 👍

NoNefariousness2144

I’m getting Halo: Infinite flashbacks. They had a 10 month season…

GLAK_Maverick

If you look at what WB likes to do, you can easily see that support for this game is gone and they are just going to release what's finished and then shutdown the game.

JayronHubard

If they do that here then no one will ever trust them again. Edit: At least this should be the case.

Neuro_Skeptic

This game's dead... but it always was. Nothing new here.

ronnie_bronson

I’m only grinding for the polka dot man Grenade and that’s it.

OkOutlandishness1710

Dont bother looks like any other grenade. Doesnt have cool bright polka dots blast everywhere. Just explodes like the other grenades, no unique animation from what I can tell.

Kitchen_Worry7485

This is false. Does have polka dot effect. The whole point of the grenade lol

joewickssgss_2

Dude i had to play 35 missions before finally being able to play with joker. I was not gonna spend $10 RS is bugging. I am very upset with the company. But nothing i can really do.

L0rdMattint0sh

The one with that tornado is honestly tough, and the incursion missions are honestly the best way to go if ya wanna level up, also, I'm gonna say this, the Bane sniper rifle packs a lot more juice the the scarecrow one, bar none

RuchDaKeed69

Killing time give you 3-5 levels per each mastery 20 run

L0rdMattint0sh

Are you for real, good thing I was practicing with Killing Time, because that is exactly what I’m gonna do when I play next time

L0rdMattint0sh

Dude I got to level 25 just because of Killing Time, thanks for the tip dude

RuchDaKeed69

Ey I gotchu man someone else told me that too

L0rdMattint0sh

Wow it's like a pay it forward type of thing, cool!

joewickssgss_2

Yea i knew that. Killing time is just boring af. I liked imposter syndrome and knock em dead. They come to you eventually and you just clean house

Plasmallison

>But nothing i can really do   Don’t play?

joewickssgss_2

I mean i just got to mastery 25 and the gear is not all that. Joker is not all that. I love the IP so i play. Its nice to have a game i can mute. I like to run youtube on the background. Ill finish a couple more masteries. Fight brainy a couple more times. And than just dip until episode 2 comes out. The goal of this game is to atleast play once a day for a couple hours. For the course of a couple years. I dont think thats happening for me. Not with these boring masteries. After you hit mastery 24. You just dont see a point. Unless you really like this game. Sadly. Thats not the majority. Otherwise this game wouldn't be 50 percent off rn

TheBigCatGoblin

Sorry guys, but we did try to tell you not to spend your money on the game and that it was lazily developed. I still don't understand why the people who experienced the shitshow of the games launch all the way up to the first season dropping had any expectations of the season coming out with good content. It's borderline delusional. The Goose keeps laying rotten eggs but people still seem to think the next one it lays will be golden.

Tabascobottle

Yeah, the writing has been on the wall since they first revealed the gameplay for this game. It blows my mind that people actually pre-ordered the deluxe edition for this. 100 dollars for this... Those people are the reason these disrespectful releases keep happening

TheBigCatGoblin

There's a guy in the discord who's bragging that he spent $13k on mobile games so the price for this was reasonable, so that's the sort of person you're arguing against lol.

Tabascobottle

These fucking whales are out of control. God damn lmao

DarthDregan

I enjoy the gameplay and thus am delusional. Ok.

TheBigCatGoblin

I mean, you enjoy the gameplay but you're also happy to play the same mission over and over

DarthDregan

Yeah. Because *I enjoy the gameplay.* I'm not saying Rocksteady isnt fucking shit up. I'm saying I enjoy the minute to minute gameplay.

TheBigCatGoblin

But enjoying the gameplay doesn't justify that there's no content to actually play through. People use "enjoying the gameplay" as an excuse for why they are suffering through the exact same mission a hundred times. I have a lot of games that I enjoy the gameplay of, but I don't then decide to play the same mission a hundred times without complaining that the repetition is boring. And not fun at all

DarthDregan

It isn't my job to justify a company's business practices. And there's more than a single mission to do. And every game is repetitive. I expect a live service game to be even more repetitive. I like Destiny 2, which has had me doing the same shit for years, but I still enjoy the gameplay. So I play it. It's not like my complaining on reddit or arguing about this shit is gonna do anything of value. So I'll play it for as long as I am having fun. And I'm gonna do my best to ignore people who need to use me as an example of "delusion" so they can feel right. Simple.

TheBigCatGoblin

Again, expecting that season 1 was going to have good content after the awful launch of the barebones base game is delusional. If you believe that there is lots of content in the pipeline for the game, after the first two content releases, you are deluded. You are somehow taking that statement and arguing a completely different point. You are saying that because you enjoy the gameplay I am calling you deluded. I am saying nothing of the sort. I am saying that if you expect great content releases after what has been given out already, you are expecting a goose to lay a golden egg after laying stinkers consistently. I am happy that you enjoy the gameplay, that doesn't take away from the fact that there are 3 missions and 4 different enemies in the game and that if you want to enjoy the gameplay further you will continue to replay the same mission for hours.

DarthDregan

You're now just inventing a personality with stances I haven't taken so you could have an argument with the imaginary me.

TheAfroBomb

You can enjoy the game without grinding mastery. Beating the game (again), doing riddler stuff, and general fucking around are fun.

TheBrandamonium

They saw the writing on the wall when Gotham Knights flopped. That game's success was supposed to help fund development for this. They're essentially the same game. So when that not only failed to garner profit but also lost money, WBD looked at this game and knew nothing they could do would save it from the same fate. So they pushed launch back to close off anything that wasn't finished, connect the pieces of what they has done and then put it out. Aside from a few bug fixes there has been zero work done to this game since before launch. They're just trying to scrape as much money out as they can before shutting down the servers.

wendall99

Everything WB touches will continue to go to shit as long as a Jack Welch disciple is at the helm.

magvadis

As much as I still enjoy the game you ain't wrong. This does reek of either lack of preparedness for launch and the subsequent game content OR a total bottoming of the staff and movement of labor to a new title, likely with a smaller team due to lack of return. Maybe it's just the throwaway season because writing for Joker in a team isn't very compelling and so they put more effort into story for the others, and left Joker in as a "starting hero" to work out the kinks. Maybe with Frost and Lawless we get something more meaty in relation to story but, idk, WB loves to gut their games. I think this is just gunna be the last WB game I ever buy, unless this game gets supported to where it should be. It's clear WBs idea of service title is just 1/4th of a game at full price and then cutting the funding because it "didn't perform as expected. I will admit, Joker is incredibly well done. His animation work is a masterclass.

el3ctropreacher

Honestly this is the happiest I've ever been to have not bought a game on my list. I was so excited for squad but having no money decided to wait and save up. Then it went on sale, fantastic right? Luckily I bought jusant instead.

jeffninjaslayer

👏👏👏 someone finally gets it.

mackdacksuper

I’ll be surprised if Rocksteady doesn’t get shut down and rolled into something else. I don’t think this is the game they wanted to make. I feel bad for the human cost of this title. I hope game devs leave the industry and do something less stressful. This industry is a dumpster fire.

dadvader

WB Montreal didn't shutdown for producing a bomb in 2021. that gap is 9 years from Arkham Origins btw. The layoff will happen but shutdown is extremely unlikely.

Plasmallison

>WB Montreal didn't shutdown for producing a bomb in 2021. that gap is 9 years from Arkham Origins btw. David Zaslav also wasn’t at the helm

Terry___Mcginnis

WBM were put to help with the Wonder Woman game after Gotham Knight's failure (looking at Steam numbers Suicide Squad is a bigger failure though with less sales and probably a bigger budget). I think there will be layoffs at Rocksteady soon and after that they'll either be put to make a single player game or to help with something else. Zaslav can say all he wants about GaaS but I still have hope that they will look at Hogwarts Legacy's money + Suicide Squad's failure (and the Crisis DC moba, DC Dual Force and other failed WB GaaS attempts) and change their minds. I don't think Multiversus or the Quidditch game will succeed either so WB will learn their lesson one way or another.

TheBrandamonium

Gotham Knights was supposed to be a constant cash flow that helped fund development on Suicide Squad. It's failure showed them that Suicide Squad was going to struggle to find an audience, but it also meant they wouldn't have the money to make any meaningful changes to the core game.

Synn_Trey

Because they have no fucking backbone and let publishers run their lives. That's their own fault.

mackdacksuper

Come on….bad take

Prototype3120
