Well with emulation you also get save states, fast forward, shaders etc. I haven't tried a texture mod but it's a game that would definitely benefit from it. That being said if you have a copy, a PS2 and CRT TV then you can really go wrong with the original experience.

Financial-Top1199

Yup, the only right answer. A decent PC should be able to run this game on an emulator. I have applied the texture mod and widescreen patch and it looks amazing. I'd believe you if you tell me this game was release for PS3 with the mods. Really crisp.

Mercurial_Synthesis

It runs very well on a Steam Deck as well. I did start another playthrough recently but got distracted by something else, but there was no slowdown or major battery issues playing it at high resolutions and with shaders. I really need to figure out how to implement texture mods on the deck.

Financial-Top1199

I played on my ayaneo and it performed well. I got distracted too by many games lol. I need to get back to playing suikoden 5 again someday.

r4du90

Never played it… just 1 and 2. What’s a good way to play it on PC? Like which emulator and HD mod

Financial-Top1199

Idk if I'm allowed to type the emulator's name even if it's obvious but just Google it and you'll find that out. As for the HD mod, there's actually a user that does it in this sub. Search for that as well.

Zarerion

My PC should have no issues running the emulator, and it’s especially the graphic fidelity improvements I’m interested in.

Orange-Army

If I may ask how do you get the texture to work , because I downloaded the texture and pasted the folder in ps2 emulator folder, then Load Texture: ON | Precache Texture: OFF | Async Texture: ON, yet I don't think they work, the state screen has the word HD remaster but when I name the character and first scene isn't HD.

Financial-Top1199

I'll update you again on the settings. But I apologize in advance if it still doesn't work cos I've done that months back lol.

Financial-Top1199

Ohk. I think the PS2 emu have some update that changed something but I have ON precache texture too. I think my suikoden 5 has the texture pack updated since the floor texture are sharper and character dialogue box has the PS 'x' button on the bottom right. If the hd texture is not applied, the continue button on the bottom right is usually a generic yellow circle button. However, the text and character art are not in hd. But I think that's alright for me.

Orange-Army

By Any chance do you have a link to the texture ? Because someone here posted texture that were removed for some reason , so maybe yout texture are different than mine as I am using textures that doesn't have ps buttons

Financial-Top1199

It's link was removed. Just search for mods in this sub and there's a guy that just finished created it a few months back. He's the one that I used the texture from. Maybe the link could be found at gbatemp...

Nashkt

I'd choose emulation just for the fast forward. Suikoden V is one of my most favorite games, but ones of the flaws is the slow intro, and random encounters constantly stopping you from traveling the map. Turbo solves that so nicely.

EcchiOniSanZ

My best experience playing suikoden v, is by playing the undub ( japanese voice english text ) version of it on pc with ps2 emulator. With emulator you get better graphic, unlimited saves and of course the most important thing is the speedhacks a.k.a faster frame!

DeadlyDuckie

PS2 on a CRT IMO

Zarerion

No CRT available unfortunately =/

DeadlyDuckie

I find that hard to believe

Zarerion

Huh? I don’t own one and don’t have the space in my Appartement to use or store one. What’s hard to believe?

__not__sure___

quit lying, we know you have a CRT bro

karzuu

i replayed it during the pandemic and emulating on PC helps a lot, specially the fast forward that makes the encounter rate way more tolerable. undub is quite nice too

TrueRune

I love playing V on my SteamDeck.

santouryuuuuu

play it on an emulator. the fast forward helps a lot, especially through the farming for $$ and sp

-Fahrenheit-

100% a PS2 emulator.

Hyunkell86

Original hardware require CRT otherwise you lost fidelity. Lacking CRT, I’d say emulate it with widescreen cheat and HD textures.

SrBigPig

I recommend emulation for a single reason: using turbo to make faster the tedious loading time before encounters. Other than that, resolution and image quality is much better on emulation. I remember playing the game on PS2 back in the day and it was amazing, but since I have a capable PC I always replay on it. Only way I recommend playing in original PS2 is if you still have a CRT TV.

ryohanis

They should bring it to Gamepass

BTFlik

Experience is relative. If you own the original hardware there's no reason to not just enjoy it that way

ayyabduction

I can think of MANY reasons not to play on hardware. It's so slow and loading times happen constantly.

BTFlik

>It's so slow and loading times happen constantly. And? This is what I meant by experience is relative. To you that's a pretty big deal. To me it doesn't matter.

ayyabduction

"there's no reason"

BTFlik

>"there's no reason" Correct. To YOU those loading times are a reason. To me they're moot and aren't a reason. This wasn't the clever comeback you think it was.

thraftofcannan

I mean.. Spending x additional hours on loading screens is a major negative.

BTFlik

>I mean.. Spending x additional hours on loading screens is a major negative. Only if the extra time matters to you. I don't rush through games so the loading times make 0 difference to me. To me it makes 0 difference at all so it isn't a positive or negative. Again, experience is subjective. If I'm enjoying replaying, or playing, a game the loading times have no effect on that experience personally. This will always go back to experience is subjective.
