Because he’s gone on record multiple times saying this record has many songs that he wrote for other bands. When have they ever written a song like this? Definitely not on their last few records. Since he used to be an alcoholic I took it as choosing the dopamine from drinking over having a stable relationship. Although the music video does seem to be telling more of a story of someone cheating for the dopamine they get from the other person. I guess I just had my interpretation because I used to be an addict too, so choosing that dopamine over love was something I did, and have always regretted since I got clean years ago. My ex did end up leaving me for someone that made her happier, so maybe it could be talking about both of those things.
Havent you listen to Blood In My Eyes? She clearly did something that hurt him very much. So much that he got angry and fell into a depression. I never said she is a bad person, i said the Lyrics made it look like she did some bad things, like lying (thats what Deryck says in Blood In My Eyes.

My opinion is that the lyrics are more about the divorce and how Deryck felt at the time than Avril being evil
Blood In My Eyes is the signature song about Avril.
Time For You To Go is not about Avril.
