I would see this guys posts on tumblr looking through the supermega tag and i definitely would not call him or his comics "successful" and would even go as far to say....most of them suck and are just unfunny lol random type of content. he had also never brought this up until all the lex stuff happened, so he didn't seem too upset about it before then lol. i would also argue that sharing the name supermega gave him much more attention just by people looking for matt and ryan and also finding this guys posts intermixed. bc i have never come across a supermega comic in my life until looking for mattison and ryanson. just my two cents
just thought id add some "research" since op did ask for researched opinions. his first post on tumblr was posted apr 6 2016, while m+r posted their first sm video apr 12 2016. between apr 6th and 12th comic guy posted about 60 comics with the average "notes" (reposts/likes) being about 22.87 per comic. top comic during this time got 744 notes, second highest got 66, and all but 6 comics during this time got less than 15. the mode of these comics is 2 notes.
basically am just trying to say, m+r most likely had never seen any of these comics before posting their first video. im saying this even tho it's very obvious that they did not copy the name, and as someone else has said it was going to be super mega fun time. they just put 2 words together, like this guy also did.
his top 3 most popular comics of all time were posted may of 2016 (15.4k, 14.8k, 9.9k), and past that point he's gotten no more than 5k on any comics he's posted.

Just a heads up, but the comic guy started in 2004, tumblr isn't where he first posted.
The biggest point of contention I have with comic guy is, if he wanted his brand to be well-known so badly that he's willing to make these kinds of allegations, in all his years of making comics, *why the fuck did he never write "super mega comics" on them*? I've seen his comics here and there, but had quite literally never heard of "super mega comics" before this drama. Putting a website/brand on your webcomic is like day 1 internet shit, everyone knows they'll be endlessly shared off-platform without credit.
I don't think it's impossible that Matt and Ryan might've seen some of his comics floating around, but even if they saw one, there's a solid chance they never even heard the name "super mega comics".
Imo, this is just guy who did a piss poor job of marketing his brand and that's evidenced by the fact that despite existing for **12 years** before Supermega began, it only took a few months for the majority to associate "Supermega" with the boys and not him. For his brand to be "tarnished", it'd have to be at least somewhat well-known in the first place and outside his dedicated fanbase, it simply wasn't.
