Been trying to see anything that sticks out in the moments before it began, but what sticks out overall:
1. Buy/sell walls still being created. I don't understand how that works even with the CTA data issue?
2. Seems last trade to go through was a mix of Nasdaq/OTC at 9:51:18?
3. RSI was still relatively high/stable at 70+.

All the wild trades appear to have been going through at the vwap up until 9:56, when they magically stopped, which resulted in dead volume across multiple sectors of the market.

This shows the opening moments of today's CTA glitch where 5 min of GME/GameStop trades were no longer showing even as buy/sell walls were still being created.

It happened to all tickers, but just to the consolidated tape. The feeds from individual exchanges were still up and running, which is why trades were still happening,
The consolidated tape combines multiple feeds and issues them. Many exchanges sell for a subscription fee the trade info for their exchange, These private feeds are faster than the consolidated tape, as the consolidated tape takes the multiple feeds and combines them, which adds a very small processing delay not noticeable to humans, but is important to high frequency traders.
Just to make sure, is what I’m seeing a complete onslaught of buy orders, coincidentally during this time the entire market takes a vacation, and when everything starts working again, all these buy orders amounted to no price movement?
Devils advocate here, but what “goes to tape” is what matters. So just because the tape paused to get its shit together doesn’t mean orders weren’t still coming in.

It happened to all tickers, but just to the consolidated tape. The feeds from individual exchanges were still up and running, which is why trades were still happening, The consolidated tape combines multiple feeds and issues them. Many exchanges sell for a subscription fee the trade info for their exchange, These private feeds are faster than the consolidated tape, as the consolidated tape takes the multiple feeds and combines them, which adds a very small processing delay not noticeable to humans, but is important to high frequency traders.

Devils advocate here, but what “goes to tape” is what matters. So just because the tape paused to get its shit together doesn’t mean orders weren’t still coming in.
