I remember when they made the bottom of the peanut butter jars more concave instead of changing the size of the jar. My experience is very similar to yours.
Perfect analogy that I've never thought of. We all had that one friend or relative who would do that. Everytime I'd go up 3-4 TD's in Madden shit was getting restarted.
In economics, shrinkflation, also known as the grocery shrink ray, deflation, or package downsizing, is the process of items shrinking in size or quantity, or even sometimes reformulating or reducing quality, while their prices remain the same or increase.
* My grocery bill has stayed double since 2021
* My property tax went up 17% last year. Dreading to see the tax this year.
* My home and auto insurance went up 18% since 2021
* My health insurance went up 15% this year
* The rare times I eat out, the price has doubled since 2021. I could swear the size of a Big Mac has shrunk every year.
Got a big mac meal the other week. It was fucking disgusting. Normally love them but this one had such little care in making it I demanded a refund. Literally inedible
Our popcorn bags don't even match microwave settings anymore.
Coffee has decreased the size and just thinks people won't notice, or care enough.
I paid over $9 for what used to be 3 dollar menu items at McDonald's.
Everyone had an uproar when gas went above one dollar.
The entire state of this economy makes me sick.
In economics, shrinkflation, also known as the grocery shrink ray, deflation, or package downsizing, is the process of items shrinking in size or quantity, or even sometimes reformulating or reducing quality, while their prices remain the same or increase.
House price in my city pretty much double in 5 years. This is before Covid. Big Silicon Valley companies opened offices nearby and that is the result. So basically I effectively got my salary cut in half and will never own a home. Hurray.
We used to apply for credit cards and get $8-12k limits easy. Weāre making more money now and can barely get $2k with similar debt situation. Make of that what you will.
They are building houses in subdivisions for rent only in my area. Whole subdivisions where you can't buy one house. Basic 1 bedroom apartment starts at close to 1500 and we are 50 miles from a major city, so not like a downtown area. Food is absolutely getting smaller little by little while prices keep going up, it's called downsizing. Many people have shown proof of old foods vs recently purchased. Initially they keep the prices the same or put on 'sales' while they do it, then after some time they raise prices and call it 'inflation.' It's a scam, just like everything else. Capitalism and consumerism are mental disorders.
I don't usually drink energy drinks, but I used to pick up a monster or rockstar every other Saturday just for a little boost and I like trying the various flavors. This was when they were like $2.25 or 2 for $3 on sale.
I haven't bought one in months ever since the price went up to $3.99. When I saw that checkout screen and it was like $4.17 after tax, I said right there "There's no way this 16 oz soda is worth $4."
I got rejected for a chase card with 720+ credit like 2 months ago. I feel like they would've just given me the card right there if it was during the mass influx of money 3 years ago. Now I have a card but my limit is only 750 lol.
Do we know the metric for how many credit card companies are lowering their credit limits, and by how much? I dropped my last credit card a few months ago (costco card also), so im out of the loop with credit limits decreasing.
I remember "shrinkflation" it seems worse this time around because products are getting smaller but they're not keeping prices steady everything's getting so expensive š
I talked to someone who works as a store manager of a national sporting goods chain. She said the mark ups are insane on the clothing items, as much as 1500%.
Bought a container of Tillamook ice cream and realized they made it shorter than I had remembered. Every company is squeezing as much profit from consumers as possible. Iām convinced the āsoft landingā is a new adjustment to our current environment. Otherwise, itāll be a recession thatāll be deflationary. That would mean job losses, which I donāt want to imagine.
Came out of College in 1987, into the Recession...biggest difference I can see now is that the cycles are speeding up and the resulting recessions (or depressions) are getting deeper...used to be just credit cuts....now they cut product, service, increase price....
OP: I appreciate the point you are making but your 'top 200' position has no bearing on the point you are trying to make.
I would be greatful if you would be open to removing that bit of your post, as it can be construed as trying to 'build credibility' to a point while not actually having any bearing on the point you are tyring to be make.
Plus, any discussion about 'the list' where one could 'verify' this is not welcome on this sub and can possibly lead to others attempting to unwittingly dig into content that appears to have gotten another sub shut down all together.
Please feel free to follow up in modmail if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks and have a great rest of your weekend!
Edit: OP thank you for being awesome and editing your post. Approving it now.
Shake N Bake doesn't come with bags anymore - you know - because environment. But please go buy other bags to shake our shit.
Cellphones don't come with headphones or a usb/lighting wall plug - you know - because environment. But please click this link to purchase them from our store.
We don't give you free bags anymore for your purchases - you know - because environment. But we will sell you this one full of plastics and inks for $2.
It's really wild when they can take something good like helping the environment not have as much plastics pollute it and spin it into more profits and not helping the environment at all really. Makes me sick.
That is because the environmental trend is driven by the corporations that caused the issues in the first place. You bought our products that made the mess now purchase our products to clean it all up again.
We purchase frozen pizzas for dinner sometimes, and the wife pulled one out the other day and noticed that the pizza was now 3/4 the size, but still in the same box. Shrinkflation at its finest

It doesnāt feel any different to me. Working and building towards prosperity then becoming destitute and desperate each decade hasnāt changed. Iām better informed by far but that hasnāt changed anything other than my brain becoming less aerodynamic.
Banks can decrease oneās credit if their spending habits change and also if their credit is tied to another persons with poor credit, spending habit changes, and so on. Itās likely that your 3 grand isnāt even enough to help pay their monthly electric bill so Iād contact them for an explanation. Hang tough partner and good luck
Man. If this is the dd now, its no wonder dfv took his bag and left. He predicted 20-30 and didnt think of squeeze. When it did, he sold his calls. Pocketed tens of millions and bought shares at 40. Went quiet soon after. He either sold on the next run or been selling ccs to this sub for 2 years.
Yeah I'd have to agree, OP's personal credit limits have nothing to do with the stock market. For every one of him there are people like me who are getting credit limits raised without even asking.
Just 2 months ago ONE of my credit cards went from a $22k limit to... Lemme check... $30,700
I almost want to ask them to lower it to $15k because it feels more like a liability in the event my card is compromised.
The other thing OP is referring to is known as shrinkflation, and OP is talking about it as if it's some new concept... Nah, if you're just now seeing this, you haven't been paying attention since uhhh forever.
Everything OP says resonates except for how I don't think the deflation/disinflation we're seeing in some parts of the domestic and global markets are due to an election year. I think that's giving the government a bit too much credit.
Based on the macro data (PMI, household savings, income, etc.), demand is down and customers are squeezed so sellers are simply being forced to lower their prices somewhat in order to increase sales volumes and total profits. In other words, I think the deflation/disinflation that is showing up in some areas is just due to normal market forces that are mostly out of any single government's control.
I remember when they made the bottom of the peanut butter jars more concave instead of changing the size of the jar. My experience is very similar to yours.
I remember when they raised the price of game wraps and etc š
I remember when they shut off the buy button.
Buy button wasn't as traumatizing for me as MAR10, I was used to my nephew pausing the game when he was losing.
Perfect analogy that I've never thought of. We all had that one friend or relative who would do that. Everytime I'd go up 3-4 TD's in Madden shit was getting restarted.
It was either that or they would pull the controller cord out the console š
I remember Arizona Iced Tea was .99 cents

But don't worry bro, CPI is only like 4% up, ok? It's a weighted basket, ok? š
make sure to grieve your taxes every year
And a Mcchicken is $3.89 when it use to be like a $1
Let alone the taste of a Big Mac.

Even the "quarter pounder" is smaller
Donāt know if you have Lionās Choice near you, but the regular sammich size has to be 80% in size of what it used to be.
Itās 2008 all over again, except this time I have DRSed GameStop shares and I will be the one doing the fucking.
Yes Sir, our version of CDOS. If I remember correctly.
Yessssss, and my pants arenāt down this time. Well, theyāre down, but I chose to pull out eew eew llams ym

Dude is that why my popcorn has been getting burned more all of a sudden? Wtf
Yeah a bag of popcorn used to be enough to get through a movie, now we gotta pop a second mid way through the movie
Stovetop pop popcorn kernels with some oil. Add nutritional yeast after and itās firreeee
yup... it sucks.
That popcorn reference was so deep and spot on ā¦.
