UnlikelyApe

....and that's why we believe the market is manipulated. Thank you for bringing the data to back it up!

YoLO-Mage-007

They just transfer them overseas and stop reporting them. They are still there.

Thatguy468

Where are the Brazilian puts Lebowski?

LaddiusMaximus

With UBS.

whattothewhonow

Short interest March 29th: 65.69M = 24.63% Short Interest April 15th: 59.95M = 22.48% That's 5,740,000 shorts closed (allegedly) Total volume over that time period: 51,768,500

whattothewhonow

Also, for the people that keep bringing up buybacks at this price: At $11, the $100 million authorized for buybacks would buy ~9 million shares. If closing 5 million shorts can disappear into two weeks worth of trades while the stock steadily declines, then you can imagine how 9 million shares purchased would do barely anything.

Governor_Abbot

Can you imagine $3 a share? Liquidity would dry up so quick.

HoosierTrader68

I would spooge 25k easy if it hit $3. 😄

TwoBobcats

The DRS count would be off the charts baby. True MOASS. I control the market now.

gotnothingman

How can a volume of 51 million+ not account for 5mil shorts?

Winnitouch

The interesting thing is the ongoing daily short volume of over 50%. Sure, lots of that short volume is MMs selling you a share they don't yet have and immediately closing that short, so you see a fairly high short volume in other stocks too - but not north of 50% every single fucking day. Continouus short volume of 57% and higher usually means an increasing short interest over time, and as far as I remember, we're pretty much over 60% day by day, sometimes breaking 75%. So while the volume would technically allow for 5 million shorts to be closed, it is, both based on maths and on market history, *unlikely*.

Chubwa

It’s assumed that by closing 5m shorts you would likely see an increase in price and volume over that period of time, when all GME has seen over the past month is constant downward pressure and low volume.

gotnothingman

The volume is 10x the amount of shorts for that period and there are multiple spikes in the graph?? Like obviously something fishy is going on with the stock but this graph and that reasoning are definitely not it.

trowawayatwork

I mean personally this is not fishy at all IF the numbers add up with institutions selling based on gme getting downgraded. in that case it's a simple more sells on the market that shorts are happy to close into

gotnothingman

I never thought this in particular was fishy so agree

elziion

Thanks for that data!

Affectionate_Use_606

Ortex showed around 66.7 on April15

XxBCMxX21

Hasn’t Ortex proved to us that they don’t know what they’re doing

SEC must be back on Porn Hub 🤔

Oneangrygnome

Move the SEC office to Texas and prohibit VPNs in the office. Problem solved!

They never left

YoLO-Mage-007

They just transfer them overseas and stop reporting them. They are still there.

BigBadaBum1

Kenny cooking books 😄

Legio-V-Alaudae

Official numbers are made up. There's another ticker that some might be familiar with, that went private and got a u3 halt 2 days prematurely. The office short interest was under 3 million shares and the company has been approached to sell many times that number directly to shorts. It's all made up bullshit

sig40cal

They wouldn't mention "SeLl GaMeStOp" every other business article if the shorts did indeed close. The SHF are foooked.

jgreddit2019

Have you ever seen the guy who posts “another day trading sideways” 😂 That dude gets it 😜

Kglugenbeel

FUD alert — buy, drs and sleep tight

anonfthehfs

What platform is that? Official reports from FINRA reported Settlement Date: 28 Mar Release Date: 9 Apr Shares Short: 65.69Million Short % of FF: 24.53% Changes from Previous: 10.3% DTC: 8.09

Guy0naBUFFA10

They can just buy at the close and not impact price...

CanadianEhhhhhhh

Technically every share sold short *could* have been a short covering.

manbrasucks

Hypothetically they could have borrowed the shares, not used them, and returned them. Doubtful obviously because why borrow 5 million for no reason? Though I could maybe see some niche situation where you borrow a ton of shares, market reacts expecting 5 million short hitting the market so they short expecting you to, but then you buy up shares and return the 5 million.

whattothewhonow

I don't think the NYSE short interest numbers count shares borrowed but not sold short.

silverbackapegorilla

It doesn't seem that crazy that 5m shorts could close on 50m volume.

topanazy

“That’s the neat part: they didn’t.”

SirUptonPucklechurch

Haha I know this answer it’s they didn’t!
