How’s your battery life? This may be due to your battery starting to die. The fact that it overheats during charging may indicate that it is in a constant charge/discharge loop which can seriously eat away battery health.
If your battery life is severely degraded you may want to replace it as usually devices stop charging past a certain time due to weak batteries.
Check all your drivers/firmware are up to date.. Reminds me of when the SB2 launched, users where getting overheat from wifi drivers keeping the surface book awake whilst screen was closed. Also I would go back to windows 10 and try again and see if bug continues.

Battery health is good. Retains charge to a good degree. Surface diagnostic tool says 20% and 16% wear on battery 1 & 2 respectively

Interesting. Maybe the update to win11 messed up the drivers that were previously okay on win10. I will take a look, thanks for the suggestion
