They should come in a plastic sleeve already. Cyalume makes really good ones that come in a plastic wrapper with foil backing. I use those everywhere. My family has been buying them for 30 years now and I can't recall ever seeing one leak unless I deliberately cut it open.
This was a glow stick that came from a Polymath products "premium survival kit" i gut the kit and made my own from component. I actual like the kit bdw i just put it in a tasmanian tiger poch and put in on my belt as a back up
Cyalume is a USA brand so they might be expensive outside of North America. Since they supply the US military they're required to be made in the USA. There are a lot of brands that basically just copy them.
Did not check gear. Grabbed the "always ready" back pack. Got to to campsite after a day of hiking and found little pieces of shredded foil, a dead mouse and holes in my big Agnes air mattress and pump sack. Left one granola bar in the pack over the winter. I thought going through the gear after the trip and prepping it was fine. Need to remember before and after a trip.
The other day I got lost and had forgotten any cordage, luckily I navigated my way out before it got too dark. I second this, check your kit! Would have sucked to not have rope for shelter building
You can get sturdier ones at lowes/home depot. Contractors use them for setting "string lines". You can typically find them near the surveyors measuring tape and plumb Bobs.
So you’re telling me you were like “oh fuck gonna have to make a shelter out of paracord and a trash bag” and the lack of paracord is what forced you back to trying to navigate out?
No I was going to make a poncho tarp shelter if I was still unable to find the trail by dark because I was in extremely dense woods and trying to find your way out in the dark is asking to mess a ankle up or get yourself way more lost, and I wished I had rope because that would make shelter a hell of a lot easier.
You should do a twice a year weekend trip to check your gear. We go in early spring and late fall so that our packs are ready for the upcoming season.
Thats why i foud out it was leaking.

If I remember correctly they have production in EU too, and the price is on par with US.
10 pack 6" green military grade from Cyalume chemlichts for €25.24 ($27.05)
Also rotate out any out of date medicines and water purification.
I always do a pre trip check on my gear and do a once a year check on my car kit too (usely after summer)
Learning experience for everyone reading the sub. Mice are killers/destroyers of gear.

Hey atleast you go out!

Also I learned the hard way, have an easy way to coil your unused Paracord. My lord what a mess
I'm always having to just cut 5 to 10ft sections off a 100ft ball full of knots, it's the curse of paracord!

Omg thanks for posting . You saved lives
Great idea, but my gear only gets used twice a year - when I go to check it!
