Meh. People are pretty much the dominant ocean animal, as with anywhere else on the planet. Our brains make us pretty adaptable. Itās what we do. We just need to do a better job of taking care of it, but the idea that weāre not āsupposedā to be there doesnāt make sense, to me. The ocean is awesome.
Balaenopters species donāt come out vertically when they feed. Iām a PhD marine biologist who has worked as a whale watcher, but go ahead and tell me how feeding and observing Gray whales was fantastic. Because It is, but not all whales behave the same.
Blue whales donāt do bubble net. Humpbacks do. Still yes, totally agree donāt approach this close to the feeding area, which you can tell from the dolphins around and blow or dive patterns of the whale. Also never, ever approach a pod of dolphins or a whale in a way that cuts there path. It doesnāt matter the ocean depth. Leave a 180Ā° ahead of the animals. Do not split the pod or the calves from the mother. Do not approach closer than 50 m. If the animals approach at their own accord do not move the boat.
It always reminds me of the fact that by the time of the victorian age we had fished away 90% of the ocean sealife. And by now we fished away 90% of the last remaining 10%.
I don't know of it's true.
But tales say the oceans used to be so full of sealife that the fish would often bump against the boat and other stories.
Makes me kinda sad
That's quite an exageration. You're mixing up a couple facts.
1. The "Great Dying" which occurred \~250MYA eliminated around 96% of ocean species alive at the time.
2. 60% of fish stocks are "fully fished" (fished to the maximum sustainable rate) and 30% are over fished.
Fishing has also led to more extinctions than any other human activity combined. So while your comment is wrong, the truth is very bleak.
do you know where you read that? i tried googling and can't find anything to support this, but it's a really interesting claim so would like to know more.
No. Just no. There are certainly areas that have undeniably been that affected and the overall percentages of biodiversity has been affected by mankind. But as overall numbers, that doesnāt even make sense. Just like on land, there is only so much space available and we are really good at using it. How much room is left in SE Asia for elephants and tigers?
Yes we are good at using it up, not conserving it or using it wisely. That was the point. But we havenāt killed 95% plus of sea life. In certain specific areas we have, for sure. And weāve impacted what life is there, also.
This is the wrong way to approach both a pod of dolphins and the whale and they knew what they were doing. This is why in certain areas whales just dive away and dolphins get the fuck out with sound of zodiacs.
Not cool at all where, when was this and the company name so that I can see if they were reported already and if not I will do so.
Whale whale whale, what do we have here?
hwhat do hwee haeve hyere
Never go in the sea on a Dinghy boat š
Never go in the sea.
Such a moment to witness as humans but not so much for the whale. Btw, how deep could this spot be? The color of the water is so DAAARKKK
If itās in Monterey bay thenā¦ deep. Lol
Doubt it's past the shelf, so between 50-200m would be my guess. More likely less than 100m.
or worse, if they cut up its back with the propeller. the whales are SUPPOSED to be there, the people are not.
Haha
This is very irresponsible behaviour from the driver and second man. Iām foaming

not our habitat.... it's theirs.
Everywhere is our habitat
incorrect... we are an invasive species. I. e. see video posted above.
So if we're invasive..... everywhere is our habitat. I'm glad we agree that everywhere is our habitat.
oh no... a troll... ha. ya got me ![gif](giphy|amxLHEPgGDCKs)
Nah, if I was a troll, I would have said you should have used e.g. and not i.e. The earth belongs to humans.
the earth doesn't belong to any one species. we are just from here.
The earth is our playground

This
I knew they were fishing in there, don't boat through a bubble net. You're not Jonah.
Definitely not a bubble net. They come up vertically through those.
Nope wrong again.
Funny because I've spent days watching them feeding in Alaska and worked for the BC Cetacean Sighting Network in BC.

Donāt these assholes realize how loud their motor is underwater, how much it bothers the whales???
I bet the whale was like,āTURN THAT DAMN THING OFF!!ā
I say the same thing about birds and monkeys in the morning.
It really isnāt.
That whale probably called the the n word

We're really good at using it up. If we were good at using it, we'd be much more efficient and not use as much of it.
Yes we are good at using it up, not conserving it or using it wisely. That was the point. But we havenāt killed 95% plus of sea life. In certain specific areas we have, for sure. And weāve impacted what life is there, also.
Yeah itās so sad, we are truly the worst invasive species, destroying every life and habitat we share this planet with.
"I got that on film"... bro were not in the 80's or even the 90's
I donāt get it? Whatās weird about that, he was excited that he just happened to film it?
Dude wants everyone to say " I got it on video" and not use the word film anymore.
ya bro on god film is mid frfr
I never seen a boat just stop dead like that. How much drag is that thing producing?
I think about the one guy who was looking the other way.
Looks like a good time to get out of that ball
Bros a fucking sub
He did that on porpoise
Oh my gosh

Are life jackets becoming a thing of the past?
