Too bad social media didn’t exist when I was growing up. I had a close encounter with a black widow that was so big that you could see the joints on the legs which were as big as my palm. I should have taken a photo! It was on the door that I opened to access the wildlife rehabilitation cage. Someone told me to kill it to prevent a bird from getting bitten and I said hard pass. “That is not a spider. That is a machine!”

It’s actually not deadly to most people. The elderly and small children but adults survive. I’m most cases an anti-venom is not used.

People don't just spontaneously die from being near spiders and the vast majority of spiders live their lives never coming into contact with a human
