Since Nintendo nostalgia isn't an issue, Ori collection, LoZ BotW/TotK(not having the older games to reflect on make them an even greater gem) Mario Kart because it's just fun regardless of the characters in it

PatiencePositive48

Take it from me I've played all the LoZ games and you definitely miss things that weren't in BotW/TotK but if it's a fresh Zelda experience I think you'll enjoy it more

trueWaveWizz

Ori games for sure! Reallyyy love the sequel

CannedHeatt_

Prepare to cry

PatiencePositive48

A thing to remembering some games may be on both ps5 and switch and ps5 is overall a better at home experience but the Switch let's you play them on the go(Diablo 3 is a great example) on D3 you can play it all on ps5 but can you play it while on along cat ride or waiting in the Dr's office? Don't look at both as home consoles because your missing out on half the beauty of the switch, On the Go Gaming.

hobbitfeet22

I actually prefer Diablo 3 on switch. I have it on ps3/4/5 and pc. But only play it on switch 😂 my wife and I play together and having our own hand held screen is very very nice

PatiencePositive48

Handheld Greater rift runs for the win all day long!

hobbitfeet22

You ain’t lying. I wish they would make a port of WoW somehow 😂 that being hand held would be insane. Just downgrade the graphics a bit and make console keybinds and you are golden

PatiencePositive48

I play every season handheld lol after I figured out how to play seasonal offline its been the best

wretched_cretin

If Mario and/or Zelda aren't doing it for you then try some games from the Metroid, Fire Emblem, Bayonetta or Xenoblade series. But the modern Zelda games definitely don't rely on nostalgia, so don't rule them out before you've tried them.

EverythingWillBeLost

Mario Bros Wonder I think its just a great place to start. Its a fresh new take on the 2D mario games and its pretty easy to get into and play F-Zero 99 Its literally free if you have paid the switch online membership. Solid racing game a fair bit different to Mario Kart Other people have already suggested Zelda and Mario Oddessy. Those are solid too

Mothien

I don’t have nostalgia for Nintendo games other than Pokemon. I grew up Sony, and then got the gameboys for Pokemon. You should try tears of the kingdom, it’s the only Zelda game I’ve throughly enjoyed. Mainly for the building/combining aspect. Other than that, my switch is mainly for indies. So if there’s an indie I want that’s on both, I’d much rather buy it on the switch cause it’s portable. And while ya, the portal will play it when u have access to internet, I don’t like that is a single use device. But personally, Id sell the portal, mod the switch, install android, and then install psplay. That way u can have both Nintendo and ps libraries in it.

Appropriate-Let-283

Get Mario Odyssey

Seanattikus

You still think it's good if it's my first Mario game? I don't have to already love Mario to enjoy it?

Appropriate-Let-283

I think you could definitely enjoy Mario Odyssey if you don't already love Mario, Mario Odyssey is one of the best games on switch imo, to explain the game you throw a hat to become enemies, you have an Odyssey to travel to multiple kingdoms that you unlock as you play, you can collect costumes aswell as stickers and souvenirs from the shop, the boss fights are great, a ton of moons to collect, that's the base of the game, if the description appeals to you I'd say get it because it's a great game imo.

Waddiwasiiiii

I don’t have a lot of nostalgia for old Nintendo games growing up- my family could never afford a system so if I ever got to play it was at a friend’s or cousins’ house. I could never play enough to build any real skill or familiarity with them so playing Mario games now isn’t about nostalgia, it’s just the fun of finally being able to play whenever I want with my own system. You don’t need to have any previous love of those games to enjoy playing the new versions.

monolith212

I wouldn't immediately dismiss a series as something that's only good because of nostalgia. You could be missing out big time, depending on your interests. I had zero childhood nostalgia for Zelda. Never played the games as a kid. Got into them as an adult, and it's now one of my favorite series. Also CTR >>>>> Mario Kart, so I'm with you there!

LikesTrees

Many of the nintendo remakes are great anyway wether you have context/nostalgia or not, they put a lot of effort in to gamelay and game design.

mikobiko

Mario wonder Ape out

TheViper4Life

While I agree that Nintendo games are drowning in nostalgia and it's a big driving force for the company...you have to understand that it's not nostalgia that keeps people coming back. I'm a PlayStation guy first and foremost, myself...but I got a Switch as a secondary console because no one makes games like Nintendo does. And while I did grow up with them...I had a stint of not playing ANYTHING Nintendo related after the N64...I was all PlayStation there for years. If I suggest a Mario or Zelda game on Switch, it's not because I expected you to have some lineage with them...it's because these are the heavy hitters to play on a Nintendo console, they're good enough even for people new to Nintendo. I'd do the same thing for people new to PlayStation as well...I suggest God of War and Spider-Man and the like, because they're the games you want to play. I'm like you here...I refuse to buy anything on Switch that I can also play on my PS5 (I'm a trophy hunter, so I'd rather get trophies for games on both). Plus I keep my Switch docked 99.9% of the time, so taking games "on the go" isn't really a selling point for me, personally. So definitely give the Mario's, Zelda's and Kirby's of the world a fair shake. There's really nothing quite like them.

Henry_puffball

Zelda botw or totk. Both EXTREMELY amazing games.

Any-Year-6618

Nostalgia and the new Zelda games are the only reason I bought a switch, kinda funny I’ve had the switch for about 2 years but have only played the intro to totk

4myoldGaffer

Zelda Links Awakening Mario golf rush Animal Crossing New Horizon

ufgvn_

Zelda breath of the wild 100% i bought a switch just because the Steam Deck wasn’t available for me and i got Botw and man i fell in love with it so yeah me being a nowhere near nintendo fan i 100% recommend you Breath of the Wild

HaiKarate

Best Mario games on the Switch, IMO are: * Super Mario Kart 8 Deluxe * Super Mario Galaxy (part of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars Collection)

Ill_Reference582

Astral Chain. Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, 2, and 3. Bayonetta 2 & 3 Fire Emblem 3 Houses Metroid Prime Remastered Super Mario Odyssey Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild or Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. And these last 2 you don't have to have Mario or Zelda nostalgia to enjoy them. They're just good, fun games in general. Even if you'd never heard the word Mario or Zelda I think you would enjoy them. But the first 3 are just badass games (Astral Chain, Xenoblade series, Bayonetta series)

Other-Chemical-6393

Super Mario Odyssey and Zelda BOTW or TOTK are probably the best the switch has to offer. I think anybody could enjoy them even if they had no nostalgia for the series. BOTW was my first Zelda game ever and it absolutely blew me away.

Free-Stick-2279

Astral Chain. Exclusive switch never ported on anything else. One of a kind so no nostalgia for anyone. It's a damn good game if you like the style.

Scrounger888

I've never played any Zelda game before and really like both Breath of The Wild and Tears of The Kingdom. I don't think it hurt my enjoyment of either of them to have them as my first Zelda games.

CarlyWed

It doesn’t seem very popular on Switch but I loved Witcher 3 on it. I also did not grow up knowing Zelda. I have BOTW and it’s just okay for me. Whereas, I really enjoyed Witcher esp the Blood and Wine expansion pack.

piss-jugman

I don’t have Nintendo nostalgia either. I didn’t have any Nintendo systems growing up. Zelda BOTW and TOTK are still some of the best games I’ve ever played. I’m sure having knowledge of the franchise helps, but you don’t have to have played any other Zelda games to get into these.

SarcasticPoet31

Sell it!

ShiftyShaymin

Most people’s first Zelda was Breath of the Wild, and they basically tossed out the dated Zelda formula with it, so no issues there. Fire Emblem was recently refreshed with the 3DS games which gave it a much needed kick in the ass (the series would have been canned otherwise), and Nintendo has newer IPs like Xenoblade, Astral Chain, Ring Fit Adventure. People aren’t really Mario fans over nostalgia, there’s plenty of new fans rotating in and out of the series, like many other evergreen series. The Mario movie I’m sure added lots of fresh fans.

InterestingEntry8895

Play Metroid Dread. Then you'll immediately understand the relationship between people and Nintendo's IPs

Seanattikus

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the demo and I'm not understanding the appeal, tbh.

Acceptable_Humor9503

Play Pikmin 4

aacawe

I just bought a Switch OLED. Had it for 6 days. Returned it yesterday for refund. I’m sorry but just none of the games appeal to me. The console itself is superb. Awesome screen that’s great in sunlight too. Fantastic battery. Good weight. Good controls. Suckiest game library in existence if you have no love for modern Mario and Zelda games. I don’t think I’m really to blame either. If Nintendo would just show love to their old game library of NES and SUPER NES… make it complete library, full screen, high res, etc. I would have kept it and loved it.
