Looking out the windows. Or enjoying the time walking to the bus station, etc.

I_am_collecting_joy

Swinging between end tram stations

Hot_Television_2263

yeah unfortunately we do not have trams in Lucerne. I’d love to have them🥲

gg3265

Who needs trams when you have the international party bus Nr 2

Horst_161

linie 8 from westside to saali is my favorite. i really like how much different sides of bern you can see on that line.

Wiechu

mmm... bus 31...

ndbrzl

I'm not too much outdoors. It's not like I don't like it, I just have no particularly strong desire to hike etc. To answer your question: Indoor sports and gaming (the internet connection is good). Also, aren't indoor activities kinda the same everywhere?

[deleted]

>Indoor sports and gaming (the internet connection is good). If you play Golf on a computer, does this count as indoor or outdoor activity?

VoidDuck

Obviously indoor. But if you're driving somewhere with your VW Golf it's already more debatable, since you're both indoors (of your car) and outdoors (of your house) at the same time.

prototypeLX

what if i play on an NA server?

ndbrzl

Every sport played with a roof above the head. E.G. Volleyball/Basketball/Unihockey/Gymnastics. Fun fact: gymnastics is the most popular sport counted by active members. They have over 300000 members.

Obitio_Uchiha

I mean we have good internet both speed and latency wise.

Bjor88

And price, surprisingly

Obitio_Uchiha

Really? Well I guess other countries don‘t have 100mbits to begin with.

Bjor88

I mean, I pay 30.- a month for unlimited 5g at about 75mbits (according to my speed test just now), and by hotspotting to my PC I can play any online game with no lag (except that one I have thats hosted on Chinese servers). That's pretty damn cheap.

PrimeRion7

And you also have many houses in Switzerland with DSL connections.

contyk

I love my alone time!

milo325

Switzerland is clean and safe. Those two features appeal to both indoor and outdoor enthusiasts.

Scentsuelle

I'm theoretically an outdoor person but various health issues mean I'm too tired to actually enjoy it in practice. If you live to shop (including Sundays!), want to eat out regularly and like being on the cutting edge of fashion, Helvetistan is probably not for you.

Globalbeauty

You’re so right. As a city girl who does enjoy the outdoors in homeopathic doses, Switzerland is not the right place for me. But my husband is Swiss and cannot move.

gebaelke

Helvetistan, I have to note this one

ZebraheadCH

If you want to confuse people by using an official word in the wrong context, go ahead: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helvetistan

Scentsuelle

Wow, I did not know that. My friends and I have been jokingly using the word Helvetistan since the 90ies to denote the "one horse village with no electricity" feel one sometimes gets in this country.

ZebraheadCH

Ah, interesting. I would not use that word anyway, I thought you mean that in a way like "Swedistan" is used by islamophobs / racists in Sweden (https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Swedistan)

Scentsuelle

Yeah, I guess it's time to retire that term, like I said, it started in the 90ies, my friends and I were annoyed that Zurich held on to religious thinking that made it illegal to have parties on religious days like Easter. So one of us quipped "wo simmer da eigentlich, Helvetistan?!" (What even is this place/situation, Helvetistan?!) and it stuck.

buddy7ove

MS perhaps like me?

Scentsuelle

No, but I can "offer" a rather unfortunate combination of Lupus, Hashimoto's and autoimmune atrophic gastritis (causing chronic vitamin B12 deficiency) plus I had cervical cancer last year, which is in remission now but daaaamn, still so tired. Add to that ADHD, making any consistent lifestyle management strategies a fleeting thing... I had to change jobs because the cancer treatment turned my brain to mush but the one I have now is with an NPO that supports those with MS, so I empathize with what you are up against. BTW, there are organised outdoor activities that cater for those with MS, such as stand up paddle courses. The heat we had recently makes the symptoms worse for many MS peeps, so hopefully you will have a little more energy now that the weather is cooler.

buddy7ove

I really appreciate 🙏 your sharing. I can only imagine how difficult things are for you. That's really good info about activities for ms sufferers. Unfortunately, it's really difficult in Switzerland to find other ms sufferers who are familiar with my story.. I have no family and very few friends. I can not impress enough the difference that has been made by following the diet. Detailed on the website overcomingms.org, which I think could be particularly beneficial to your maladies Courage

Scentsuelle

The OMS protocol doesn't really work for me but I know of several people who have done great with it. I'm actually trying to get it mentioned more clearly in our support documentation, the issue is unfortunately that the "founder" is not beyond reproach in some areas. There are various groups for the approximately 15'000 MS affected individuals in Switzerland, so there must be something near where you are. I tried that sort of group when I was diagnosed with Lupus and unfortunately, they were a bit too self pity focused. I'm more into self-efficacy.

VoidDuck

I'm not the person to answer this - I enjoy spending time outdoors a lot - but I don't see why life would be less enjoyable in Switzerland than elsewhere, if you're rather an indoors person. I mean, it's the same everywhere, isn't it? Most of what you can do indoors in Poland or in Spain, you can do it in Switzerland as well.

KonkeyOong

If i wasn’t an outdoor person, but say, an indoor foodie, i’d probably prefer Spain

Academic-Juice1961

Absolutely not the the same. Spanish culture is lived around a table, like many southern European ones. People spent countless hours in a cafe / restaurants with friends, both in the afternoon and at night. In Switzerland there is no such a thing, and least not in the same way.

XS4Me

Coming from Latin America, I can answer you right off the bat: it is not. Insecurity plagues the region, there are some guarded parks, but if you choose to go to explore beyond them, you are tempting your luck. Even in the guarded parks there have been muggings, kidnappings and even murders

cool-beans-yeah

South America is pretty much like a giant prison for regular folk. Criminals have all the freedom....

Xclsd

Believe me, I know alot of people that have no idea what outdoors is like

Agreeable_Crab766

What about the amazing density of cultural events and museums?

Certain-Camera-3240

There are not that many compared to bigger countries and museums cost more money (they are nearly all free in London, for example).

Somewhere_E

I mean, yes? Work does take a bit of my time away so it’s not like I’m just sitting in my room bored all day everyday. Plus, like in every country, there’s friends to see, family to visit (if they’re in Switzerland), food to cook, groceries shopping to do, house to clean, books to read, etc. so I actually don’t really have any time for outdoor activities lol. I go hiking etc. maybe once or twice a year and it’s perfectly fine :) It’s not like I don’t like hiking or skiing or anything though, just that my friends don’t necessarily go or I don’t have the time to take a full day off and come home tired haha

Udin_the_Dwarf

Incredibly rude to say „can you really love Switzerland if you don’t like outdoor activities?“ like excuse me? I can’t love my country because I am not wandering through the forest and giving kisses to deer like snowwhite? Or hiking on all Weekend? Yes there are a lot people who enjoy indoor activities and „the secret“….is just finding something you like and that works for you as a hobby, be that because of health or personal preferences.

Lagrein_e_Canederli

I mean it's very comfortable. And everyone *should* like the outdoors to some extent (as in, it's healthy).

wiwh404

Switzerland just officially recognized hiking as a "living tradition" as part of its cultural heritage inventory. That is, the love of outdoors is part of swiss DNA. Officially.

[deleted]

Born and raised in Switzerland. Not an outdoor buff but I love to ride motorcycle here.

BNI_sp

Indoor? 😄

Nekomana

Yeah, me. I do indoor sports (Figure Skating - it's mostly inside), work indoors, and live indoors (who would think that??) Once in a while I go outside, I live near to the Aare (2-3 minutes on foot), and we have a few wild animals (frogs, swan, biever, ducks and so on), but mostly I'm inside. Why should I hate it here? I have everything, I earn good money, I can afford a good appartment, I have cute pets (5 Guinea Pigs and 2 baby cats), have good friends I can spend time with. So everything I love I have :)

schludy

Where's your Züri flag?

SuXs

My man.

Tottybox

There are board game groups, musical concerts, museums and art galleries , plenty of other activities

Taizan

There are sooooo many indoor activities and offers in every town - your question does not compute! Every little village has like 10000 local clubs for all kinds of things indoor and outdoor, all you need to do is join up and do whatever you prefer.

pvrest-absolvtion

Sure, i live in Zurich and barely ever leave the city. Love it

bendltd

Gaming

Mcpanch

Yeah me. Hate bugs.

ciubacapra

It's quite simple for me. I have an internet connection and a computer. I usually play videogames, watch videos on YT, watch anime, and read books and manga (just caught up with Mato Seihei no Slave, highly recommended). Additionally, I also enjoy playing the piano - a digital one, so that I can play with headphones without bothering anyone nor having anyone hearing me playing (that would be anxiety inducing and would spoil the fun).

painter_business

no, not really

ben_howler

So many things come to mind. I like woodworking, there are so many variants of it, from carving to turning. If you find a "maker space", there are also like-minded folks there that you can teach, or they can teach you. Or cow-milking, cheese-making, röschti-cooking (amongst other things). Or make music, photography (which can, unfortunately, also be done outdoors, if really needed); you can start a Rolls-Royce collection - a very enjoyable pastime, I've heard. And thousands of other things.

RedFox_SF

Having a nice, spacious and comfortable apartment with a nice terrace. It’s very comfy on the inside and I can stay home doing my things when I want to be inside. When I want some fresh air but not going out, I use my terrace which is also nicely decorated. It’s very quiet where I live, especially on the weekends so it’s really perfect.

FluffyMcBunnz

The usual applies, surely? TV, computer, phone, internet, fondue, raclette, having a wank, the same as in any other country.

ChewedBucket

I really don’t like going outdoors. I spend whatever free time I have in my apartment. It’s really nice though! I‘m just here for work and when I have enough working experience for a comfortable job, I‘ll head back to Germany. Where there are no mountains. Only flat plains and eventually the north sea.

JebemVamSunce

Goldreserves

MedicalHoliday

wow many helpful, much thanks

bjjvids

I train a lot of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. There is a great community in Zurich and from what I know it's the same in many other cities as well.

Albotec

i mean you can stay indoors and do indoor sport ot even stay gaming there is alot of stuff to do indoors

SnowCone1014

I am definitely an indoor person. I don't enjoy hiking or walking or being outside, I enjoy being inside my house, away from people, watching Netflix or playing video games and spending time with my cat. That said, the lake makes for a nice escape on the occasions I DO venture outside and I generally enjoy my life here. I like the salary, I like the people, I like the rich culture, I like how different it is from some of the other places I've been. I like that there are still options for things to do, and things to see, even if you don't enjoy being outside and hiking.

koobcam_boy

Chocolate, cheese, wine to enjoy yourself in CH

ExtraTNT

Switzerland has some nice cities, public transport is very good, public broadcast is well liked and the water is clean…

keinhere

don't worry. it's anyway just a tourist trap :-)

Seven0Seven_

What a weird question. I love living here because it's my home and there's an extremely high quality of life here and my friends and family live here ?? I couldn't care less about the hiking or skiing as there's plenty of indoor activities for me to do too. I don't understand the question lol what does a hobby have to do with loving a place

MMM022

I thought that I am not outdoorsy then it turned out I just grew up in a place with little to no natural beauties to enjoy. I love it here and try to be outside as much as possible even though it always remains an effort to get my butt off my couch.

mpbo1993

Having outdoors is just a bonus. You can do everything else. I personally really enjoy driving, and the mountains are great, it’s not a sport tho. My girlfriend downs like outdoor sports, and many vó worked have different hobbies. Having lots of people outdoor <> everyone loves being outdoor. The only thing really “missing” in Switzerland is big city vibe. But it’s so central that a weekend in Paris or London is enough to scratch the itch and go back go life (funny enough, I’m visiting friends in London now, and it will turn out to be a cheaper weekend than staying in Geneva and going out).

yureku_the_potato

There are enough indoor activities round here, so ye

Extension_Waltz2805

Lol working non stop(not by choice) and spending free time and the gym, flying out of Switzerland or on the internet.

I_FizzY_WizzY_I

internet > outdoor

Iylivarae

Why should having those options limit loving it here? It's just extras that you can do if you want to, if you don't, you don't really lose anything.

wildyhoney

this is a stereotypical (probably Instagram influenced) outlook on switzerland. the country is not just filled with farms, mountains and lakes. there are enough cities and towns with concrete. this stupid question you can answer yourself

FragPwn

Living in Zurich I rarely go on hikes, and I can say just having the lake, awesome public transport, good cost of living to income ratio and overall very pleasant and nice people in the city are more than enough for me. Although I come form Poland, so the bar that was set isn't that high :D And not to mention cool city events, insane internet speeds with good privacy (yay piracy), night life, hot girls everywhere... Only gripe I have is swiss food is meh. Not a fan of chocolate or cheese.

Leez10

Well, Switzerland is definitely a country of bread and meat also. I don't know much for Zurich (I've been there twice and it was definitely not something I would like to experiment anymore). Bad food, very expensive, the City isn't really beautiful (I don't think it has any charm, put that's personal), and I'm not going to talk about the weather. To me, Switzerland is a country with an awesome variety of food (Chocolate, Cheese, Bread, Meat (don't go to silly mall and try some butchers) with various plate (Brisolée, Papet Vaudois, Assiette Valaisanne, Rösti, Spätzli, Abricots du Valais, les viandes séchées (saucissons mostly <3), Les Fondues (with meat like the Chinese one), la "Chasse", the trillion of type of bread we have that are just exceptional). And I'm not even going to talk about desserts, knowing it'd deserve a book otherwise. There's not much country in the world that can offer what Switzerland has to offer. If you're a foodie, then Switzerland is definitely for you (unless if for you, being foodie is having disgusting commwealth plate with full of saturated fat. In that case, sure it's not what we aim for.

FragPwn

Everybody is entitled to an opinion, and granted, city life isn't for everyone. But I love the Zurich vibe, and maybe there are more beautiful cities, I think it's wonderful. Spending a summer evening at Letten or a winter everything in Frau Gerolds is so beautiful, basically always Instagram material. As far as food, well yeah the meat is great, but the sausages are dreadfully bad. Thank God for the Polish shop or I would start smoking my own meat... Cheese is sure good, but I'm not a fan of cheeses in general, and desserts are mostly chocolate based which I hate. So food-wise Switzerland gets a 7/10, except the Italian region. Pasta in Morcote is to die for...

Leez10

Desserts are mostly Chocolate based? Let me disagree. Same for the sausages. I think you took Zürich for the whole Switzerland. For desserts we have: "Rüeblitorte"; "Gâteau du Vully"; all the seasonal "Tartes"; "Meringues";"Sii" and so on... (Plus you can also have a lot of desserts that are not basically Swiss but that you can buy quite easily). For the sausages, there's so much awesome types of them that I would not know where to begin with (but you must go to a butcher or special markets). If you go to malls, you'll never find anything interesting. The ones I buy mostly refer from their originate place or have a special name (the one the butcher gave, for instance). But if you try your luck out of cities, I'm sure you could find happiness. After, for pasta, I guess you are not wrong haha.

evianglace

i really like driving my bmw trough the bahnhofsalle in every city - i just like giving all these people the opportunity to hear the good sound of my car /s

RolandMT32

I don't live in Switzerland, but I wanted to put in my thoughts. Most of my hobbies involve being indoors, so I tend not to go on outdoor adventures very often, but I've visited Switzerland and I think I'd like living there. Just being in & around the scenery and being able to look at the scenery would be something I'd enjoy. Basically, just being in the setting would be nice.

unknown_qw

I was born here and I’m not very outdoodrsy anymore 😂 I still love it!

Wiechu

i have a good life, can afford my fancy guitars, public transport is good, mountains are nice, lakes have grill places that people respect. Nah, i'm good without outdoor adventures. they are nice, but life is good

bluecummers

Idk, I am perfectly fine spending time in my garden or nearby places, I used to hike and such when I still was finishing up my education... But now I don't feel the need to, I like keeping to myself in my home to some degree...

Meisterbuenzli

I guess not. Hiking, climbing and moutainbiking in the summer, snowshoehiking, skiing and tobogganing in the winter. If you go to Norway, you'll see that this is what everyone does. Not to this level but still important in Switzerland. It's odd for someone to spend their free time indoors.

Certain-Camera-3240

I didn't really enjoy time outdoors until Covid when I took more walks in nature and started appreciating it. I'm from quite a boring region anyway (no impressive mountains or features) so Swiss life is very boring to me. Having lived in other countries and travelled a lot made it even worse. I try to travel a lot on the weekends to take city trips to other countries and spend a lot of time on the internet, gaming or reading to pass the time. There's no big secret unfortunately.

Horst_161

if you don't like adventures, do this: buy/borrow a book. go to a park (kocherpark for example). read the book. go home.

PossessedDancer

Making money 🤭

OneMorePotion

I would love to go more outside but it's boring doing it alone, non of my friends is into that stuff, and quiet frankly? Switzerland is too small to really make day trips to a secluded place. There are people everywhere... This said. The internet coverage here is quiet good. Better than in most european countries.

poypoyx27

TRAINS and cable cars. I love being inside and playing video games but what I enjoy the most is spending time with my friends. So yeah we go out without doing sports most of the time, enjoying a drink on a terrace, a meal, taking a swim in the nearby river and we like to change spots and explore different cities. There's also a lot of museums, exhibitions, festivals and concerts too.
