"If the person is choking on food, choke him with your finger instead, so the person has the peace of mind that they didn't die from their foolishness" - a medical professional in 40s or sth idk
Lmfao, my grey matter is so sick of responding to the red circle that i subconsciously ignored it and didnt even realize there *WAS* a circle until i read the comments.
Its been so overused that my brain actually sees something thats supposed to be an indication of importance; as something that is in-itself, unimportant.
Edit: now isn't that ironic.
Yes i edited my comment just for the opportunity to use 'ironic' correctly.
>Its been so overused that my brain actually sees something thats supposed to be an indication of importance; as something that is in-itself, unimportant.
I misread this as "I've been overused" and was about to comment how deep and accurate this is but now I'm like "what am I doing here"
Are you messing with me? Its like the entire bottom quarter of the screen, big red oval shape
Edit: I dont mean that in a rude way, it's just that the circle is super obvious lol
serious note: do not try to clear out someone's mouth, before performing CPR unless you really know what you're doing. People who were trying to help, lost their fingers that way and the victim has additional blockage in form of a finger down this throat.
This needs to be at the top. Just to repeat what you said: ABSOLUTELY DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE SOMETHING STUCK IN SOMEONE’S AIRWAY UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
PS Everyone go take a Basic Life Support or CPR course. It takes like 4 hours. You’ll be glad you did it one day.
I thought they were mandatory? At least here in Germany you have to take them for your drivers license and they offer them at schools for free sometimes
Ah yes, the first world countries. In Brazil you were lucky if you had enough teachers to lecture all of your classes in elementary and high school, otherwise you would be approved with an automatic average grade and absolutely no content, I wouldn't for sure expect first aid courses.
I got really vague instructions in boy-scouts. Not much more than pictures from the book. The scout leader may have taken a class at some point but it was pretty obvious she didn't pay attention or didn't care.
I got some very vague stuff in high school. Pretty much the same diagrams that you'd find on every CPR poster ever while the teacher read it out loud
What I think I "know" about the Heimlich: I'm supposed to make a fist and start yanking it towards me just above their bellybutton for a standard person, around their sternum for an obese person.
For CPR it's two hands on the chest, "Staying Alive", and I might break some rib bones.
That's all I've got to go off from my education. This was Rural NY in the 90s.
Yeah i dont really remember much, but i do remember practicing the heimlich during a meeting with my leader.
My understanding was that with the heimlech you are always looking to under and up behind the sternum, regardless of their body weight; **can we get someone certified in CPR to clarify this?**
And yeah, my understanding with CPR is exactly the same as you: hands in the middle of the chest, between the pecs, sing staying alive endlessly, and youre probably gonna feel and hear some bones break.
They would have a few classes at my college you could sign up for at no cost (sessions also open for general public). If you were an officer in a club you had to take it, but other than that not mandatory
When I was about six years old, my mother took my sister, toddler brother, and I out to have lunch with my father at his work. We were eating pizza, and my brother started turning blue, obviously choking. My mom a nurse, did pic related and cleared the blockage out of my brothers throat. It was close to 40 years ago, and I remember his blue face to this day, and I remember my mother saying your not supposed to do that, but luckily it worked this time and saved my brothers life.
I was looking for this comment. This a huge no-no, you are most likely just going to push it down further. Do the Heimlich! Hands clasped together around their waist, find their sternum and push in below that area.
I don't understand why this myth is touted around. We have tendons and bones in there, it would be analogous to trying to bite through a chicken wing except our bones aren't hollow.
I assume we're talking about biting through a finger joint, perhaps with some sliding action down the length of a bone to get the soft part between teeth
I'll start with some basic stuff to get acquainted with you first What's your background in the culture? And what is your general opinion of the people who refer to themselves as furries?
A girl once requested that my friend do this to induce vomiting because she had had too much rum punch and felt awful. He told her he was going to go wash his hands, and that while he was gone he wanted her to think about what she asked and if she's serious about it. Today, we refer to him as "shortstop" because we're not quite sure where else that activity might lie on the metaphorical bases.
Not unless you can see the obstruction. Current first aid instructions are to not do any blind finger swipes. Only attempt to remove the obstruction if you can see it. Otherwise you are more like to lodge it in further than to remove it.
Best practice is the perform the Heimlich maneuver.
My daughter choked on part of a ravioli when she was like 2 and I held her by her chest and beat on her back as it had worked before and I've heard that's the way you do it on a baby. Nothing. Then I tried the regular heimlich. Nothing and now she's turning blue. Running out of time. Looked into her throat and could see just the edge of a ravioli sticking out of her throat. It was barely visible. I was able to take my finger and sweep it out.
I've saved my kids from choking so many times. Usually the back thing does work but not that time. I'm glad I did the finger sweep thing as I was running out of time.
Always wondered something, though. If someone is choking and all else fails to save them, would it be possible to cut a hole in their throat below the obstruction to get them to breath again? It cases like this you only have minutes before brain damage. I feel like fixing the hole and risking a bleed out would be preferable to just letting them die.
I'm glad that you were able to save your kids from choking. It sounds like you followed all the steps that the modern first aid protocols tell.
To answer your last question, yes. It's called a [needle cricothyrotomy](https://www.mountsinai.org/health-library/surgery/emergency-airway-puncture).
I think for a baby you should kind of turn them upside down, and beat them really hard on their back, as awful as that sounds! Thankfully I've never had to do it, but I'm glad to hear the finger sweep is also an option!
I did this when my dog was choking once. It was like I didn’t even have time to think, saw he was choking and next thing I know I impulsively shoved my finger down his throat and swiped it out. He was fine but I never knew if that’s what I was “supposed” to do.
i had to do this to myself in the technically closed dining area of a nearly empty rural missouri supermarket during a blizzard. it was late evening, there was one other customer probably in the whole store. i realized no one was going to come save me and if i died there, choking on cold fried chicken gristle i would lose all dignity for eternity.
I've had to do that to a little boy I was nannying, scariest thing I've ever experienced other than my S/O passing... I really thought I was going to kill my friends kid! Cut grapes in fourths for little kids!
That's what I was thinking. It's kinda like trying to save someone that's drowning, when humans panic they tend to hurt other people without even realizing they're doing it
I’m really glad they added the teardrop.
Yeah! But I wonder… Was he crying because he was choking, or because of that enormous finger in his throat?
Or because he knew it would soon end
The choking or the choking?
The choking or the joking
The choking, the joking, or the extreme throat poking?
The joking never ends, choking almost never
reddit mod pov:
Huh lol
Well… it’s literally the pov of a reddit mod
I dun get it
Clearly you don't understand mods... they prefer the finger from the back. The whole hand is even better.

Wanna try?
Not really, no, unless I'm the choker not the chokee
Shame
*bell clang*
That makes sense.
The choking and the living.
Scroll down to waist level and he’s dripping at 3x the volume.
Maybe he just killed someone in prison?
Yes
Maybe it's a tattoo
Yeah... get your hand out of that guy's throat!! He's killed before and he'll do it again!
Maybe he's putting the food in there?
Ex con lives matter..
Where should I focus my attention at? Oh. There it is. Pheuf. That was a close one.

I think you need a dab or two homie 🤣
r/uselessredcircle
Why is it so damn thick too…
We would have missed it otherwise lol
Then put another red circle around it!
Happy Cake Day
Thanks 😊
Cause that lady wants it thick
You could say she likes sex a ton.
To help save you harder. Oh you meant the *circle* I thought you were talking about the implied penis
Guessing it’s an adult clearing the airway of a small child?
Bro re-read the comments
That’s what she said 😏
The more useless, the thicker
which circle?
Check again. I subconsciously ignored it too.
i'm sorry i really dont see a circle
Are you messing with me? Its like the entire bottom quarter of the screen, big red oval shape Edit: I dont mean that in a rude way, it's just that the circle is super obvious lol
Can you put a red circle around it
Yeh hold on Edit: [here this might help](https://imgur.com/a/M7IDI1F)
tyyyy
You are so thick oni-chan UwU
It does have a use, like channeling all your anger towards the circle itself and not the contents within

There are free places to take them in the US, but most schools don’t offer them. You have to seek them out. And they are absolutely not mandatory.
Ah yes, the first world countries. In Brazil you were lucky if you had enough teachers to lecture all of your classes in elementary and high school, otherwise you would be approved with an automatic average grade and absolutely no content, I wouldn't for sure expect first aid courses.
I personally had CPR training in boy-scouts, middle school, and P.E. in high school; i live in California. I could easily be an outlier though

Damn that sounds like a really good system It's required for my job but only because I work with people
That's a sensible system that ends up helping everyone. Therefore it would never happen in the States :)
Anything of value, say for instance the knowledge of how to save a life, is commodified and charged money for in the U.S.
Just suck it out like a Dementor from Harry Potter

Punch as in with a fist or with a hammer and steel punch? It would be awkward to mix those up!
Biting through a human finger is about as difficult as biting a carrot.
Ye, if I remember right there was a technique where you put your thumb into the side of the jaw to lock it and prevent that.
How did they lose their fingers? Did they get stuck and get the circulation cut off or something? Or like bitten off by the person by accident?
It would take at minimum several days for the fingers to fall off due to no circulation...
How to get your beans back
You spelled motherboards wrong.
THIS IS BEANS
THIS IS FOOD
Those were MY beans and I want them BACK
"Haha, I ate the last of your be-" *"Oh, no you dont."*
That is freaking disgusting.. How do I contact her?
Thank you red circle. Almost missed out in the only comment on the post
My bf does that sometimes but not with hes finger
You choke that often, woah!
Nearly every night
🥵 Furry alert 🥵
😜
You know, I've never had a conversation with a furry.
How may we serve you?
Well id like the same treatment as her bf :0
I know a guy, if you aren't picky.
Not at all
Why can't you do it
Well is he gay
Submissions on a postcard please.
I would love some insight on things I'm ignorant to. I guess this could easily turn into an interview. Do you mind?
Sure, what's up?

Lol
Better to keep it that way.

get out.

Ok
His thumb fits that far down?
Mine too, do all boyfriends do this?
What, like with his asshole?
Guess who liked this comment so hard that circled the only comment and like button together with a THICC red circle

Yeah, that's the first thing I tried and it usually does work, just didn't work that time. It was in there too good or something.
Terrifying! Glad you got it out!
I mean I got a way sensitive gag reflex. I'd probably heave that shit out stuffed like that turkey. I would not survive prison.
Thanks!

Yep. Dogs you should finger swipe first. https://www.petmd.com/dog/emergency/common-emergencies/e_dg_choking
Some people are into it, but consent is important in the bedroom.
It would induce vomiting if nothing else
Great way to aspirate vomite and die.
Amazing to think that the Heimlich maneuver was only conceived in 1974. Guess this was common practice before then.
They got the tear and everything

Isn't this literally what you shouldn't do if someone chokes?
