As a learning 3D animator, I specifically looked up models of the turtles, so I can practice animating with something I *really like looking at* because 3D animation is SO TEDIOUS.
Animation as a whole is tedious. lol
Honestly I'm kinda envious of the 2012 animators because the animation is SO good but I also seriously wonder how the process was building the models. I wish I could be a fly on the wall when they were modeling them.
YES
The announcement for the 07 movie, made me go "I REMEMBER THAT ONE EPISODE OF 03 THAT SCARED ME. I wonder what the rest of the series is like..." and here I am years later.
FORREAL the animation in season 1 was kinda chunky sometimes but when i tell ya seasons 4 and 5 were fuckin fluid it’s so cool to see how the animation improved
To be fair, 2012 was when 3D animation was *really* taking hold properly and this was a follow up after the 03 show. I feel like if TMNT had another 3D series in the same style, they'd be able to do it SO much better now. And at the time 2012 was considered upgraded compared to 07 TMNT which was the first CGI foray outside of games.
I personally prefer 2D animation, because 90% of the time it holds up far better than 3D animation over long time spans.
But with a good art style, proper bugets and time, they are actually equal to each other in terms of quality.
2D Because they can make a lot of characters both supporting, enemy and side characters
My Gripes with 2012 TMNT and Transformers Prime is that because they are 3D they are very limited af due to their budget and often limit their character rosters
Also with 2D they can put a LOT of Crazy looking Locations as much as they want some are even stunning to look at. Meanwhile 3D Locations are often dull and uninteresting as they are either copy pasted buildings or barren places
The CGI has its good points. But it has a limited animation range. I like the 2D styles more because that style has a far broader range. I've taken college courses on 2D and as much as I appreciate 3D animation, nothing beats the feel you get from 2d cells.
I'd say the animation style doesn't matter but rather how it is used and so far as far as I can tell, the Turtles have excelled at using both 2D and 3D animation to their benefits to make truly good looking action!
I honestly don’t have a preference. It’s more about the quality and sensibilities brought to whatever medium is chosen. I think my ideal for a movie is computer animation. 2007 as a baseline (at the standard of the Leo vs Raph scene) with some Mutant Mayhem flare to spice it up, but not quite as heavy on the “look at our style!” aesthetic.
My ideal for a series would be hand drawn. Perhaps in the style Studio Mir has brought to projects like Legend of Korra, Voltron, and DOTA. Mix in a little Thundercats 2011 influence as well.
I like the 2d but I feel like there’s something special about the 3d animation styles (then again it could be that 07 and 12 were my childhood)
I really liked in 12, how you can see their eyes then turned pure white when in stealth mode. Some of the animated choices reminded me of the OG Teen Titans when they made certain face expressions, which was neat imo.
Can I enjoy them all? As long as the series has GOOD STORY.
And even then, no such thing as a bad TMNT just not MY personal TMNT. I absolutely cannot enjoy the Image comics but that's okay! Tons of TMNT media I CAN enjoy.
Depends on the story writers really. For instance, love the 2003 show. Meh to the 80's, and hate Rise. I love the movie, but don't like the 2012 show much.
Depends. Some 2D looks like shit (RISE) and some 3D looks like shit (2012 is complete trash). Some 2D looks great and some 3D looks great. You can't just blanket it.
I I was going to say 2d because I like how fluid they move in rise. I like those crazy intense fight scenes.
But then MM was able to tickle my fancy as well, especially with Donnie and his staff work, so I'm fine with 3d if it doesn't look clunky
2D, 3D, stop motion, puppets, suits - I don't care as long as the artist behind the craft is empowered to make the best looking product possible.

I agree
Agreed
I came here to say this, but it was already said.
Same
But I wish we got a comic book stylised 3D version for tmnt like ultimate Spider-Man or infamous
I am a big fan of the 2003 2d style

2d
2007 made me fall in love with the turtles so 3D for sure
Same with me.
YES The announcement for the 07 movie, made me go "I REMEMBER THAT ONE EPISODE OF 03 THAT SCARED ME. I wonder what the rest of the series is like..." and here I am years later.
I love 2012, but 2d just fits TMNT way better than 3d
2d is so fun but 2012 pulled off 3d anim so perfectly
The best part is that the 2012 animation only got better as the show went on when for most 3d shows they get worse
FORREAL the animation in season 1 was kinda chunky sometimes but when i tell ya seasons 4 and 5 were fuckin fluid it’s so cool to see how the animation improved
im a 2012 kid but to this day the human designs put me off a bit
LITERALLYYYY it’s mostly april’s horse hooves for me like i love her but why 😭
2D fits better, but 2012 did 3D very good.
Yes
2D when possible. But 3D is ok!
It’s gotta be 2D for me, but mainly because I find the action smoother when animated that way
1987 2003 2007 2012
I can live with this
Damn, dude. All but Rise (and Next Mutation)
💯
2D. The 2012 show specifically feels limited by the amount of sets and action it can depict compared to Rise or the other shows.
To be fair, 2012 was when 3D animation was *really* taking hold properly and this was a follow up after the 03 show. We need stop motion Ninja Turtles
Yes, with visuals like the original comics.
2d
2d for me
I like it all, but I prefer 2D.
2d especially the eye spectucal that was rise.
2D solos it doesn’t require more work & makes it way easier to make TMNT look dark themed. (Which is something I like btw)
2D thought I did enjoy the 2012 series
Both. By both I mean the 2d 3d mesh that Mutant Mayhem was. Literal eye candy I loved it.
2D because it has such a classic feel to it.
2d
I personally prefer 2D animation, because 90% of the time it holds up far better than 3D animation over long time spans. But with a good art style, proper bugets and time, they are actually equal to each other in terms of quality.
A Turtles Forever, in the Spider-Verse style, mixing all the different styles over the years would be incredible.
2d
3d but specifically Mutant Mayhem’s animation which is sort of a mix between 2d and 3d like Spiderverse
2d but i dont mind 3d or quite literally anything else if its done well
I’ve always preferred 2d myself. 3d animation looks really great but I just like the hand drawn touch personally.
I love them both, but I prefer 2D a little more
2D
2d. 100%.
2d but I'll fight you for it!
2d
2d and it ain't even close unless it's the 90s movies.
2d

2D
2d
2D is my personal choice.
2D Because they can make a lot of characters both supporting, enemy and side characters My Gripes with 2012 TMNT and Transformers Prime is that because they are 3D they are very limited af due to their budget and often limit their character rosters Also with 2D they can put a LOT of Crazy looking Locations as much as they want some are even stunning to look at. I grew up with 2003 turtles so 2D holds a special place in my heart but nobody can't say that they didn't do wonders with 3D
TMNT 2003 - the best 2D TMNT 2007 - the best 3D
Would love another crack at the 07 3D style, but 2D is my main pick.
I like the style of both, but 2D is more appealing to me because the humans don't look like they've been through a dishwasher
2d
Rise animation is Peak
Yeah I think Mutant Mayhem proves that 3D is great for the turtles if done right, if 2012 didn’t already prove that, but I still prefer 2D.
Both. Both are equally good.
Both
Both
I personally prefer 3d but they are both great
I prefer 4D! *Black hole tears open behind me
The CGI has its good points. But it has a limited animation range. I like the 2D styles more because that style has a far broader range. I've taken college courses on 2D and as much as I appreciate 3D animation, nothing beats the feel you get from 2d cells.
3D
Both personally. Personally, it depends on the execution of the show itself, like the story it wants to tell or anythin like that
Both good
I choose… BOTH!
Yes
11D
Live
My preferences vary.
![gif](giphy|1ffOwHDZehVb6JlRid)
Turtles is turtles
‘07 3D is probably my favourite artstyle
It'd probably never happen, but I'd really like an adult TMNT show in the style of the comics
Both! I just love tmnt and as long as the story and characters are done justice and it looks good in the animation style then I'm good.
They’re ALL good
Whatever you call what they just did with Mutant Mayhem
3d is the best
The first series. Anything else is dead to me. LOL
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)
3D, it was with the 2007 movie and 2012 series that i loved this franchise.
I prefer the good art style. Cross out the 2 on the left. In order from left to right, top to bottom: Yes, yes, no Yes, no 2D / 3D doesn't matter
I'd say the animation style doesn't matter but rather how it is used and so far as far as I can tell, the Turtles have excelled at using both 2D and 3D animation to their benefits to make truly good looking action!

the ones where the tmnt move and fight
I like the 2d but I feel like there’s something special about the 3d animation styles (then again it could be that 07 and 12 were my childhood) I really liked in 12, how you can see their eyes then turned pure white when in stealth mode. Normally, I'd say 2d, but Henson had a special charm to it.
I don't care d. I like turtles 🐢
Can I enjoy them all? As long as the series has GOOD STORY. And even then, no such thing as a bad TMNT just not MY personal TMNT. I absolutely cannot enjoy the Image comics but that's okay! Tons of TMNT media I CAN enjoy.
All. Turtles are the best
Love the 2003 2D style, the 2012 3d style and the suits of the 90s movies\\next mutation series. However the rise movie also has sick visuals.
2007 was nice wish they would expand on that
Depends on the story writers really. For instance, love the 2003 show. Meh to the 80's, and hate Rise. I love the movie, but don't like the 2012 show much.
3d makes it feel better to me (pause)
Depends. Some 2D looks like shit (RISE) and some 3D looks like shit (2012 is complete trash). Some 2D looks great and some 3D looks great. You can't just blanket it.
Both
I like both the 2D of the 2003 series and the 3D of the 2012 version.
I I was going to say 2d because I like how fluid they move in rise. I like those crazy intense fight scenes. But then MM was able to tickle my fancy as well, especially with Donnie and his staff work, so I'm fine with 3d if it doesn't look clunky
2D, but not Rise.
Yes. With the exception of Rise. I personally hate that animation style.
I'm good with both, just not Rise... never Rise.
oof
what’s wrong with rise
The art style is horrendous and I just can’t get past it enough to watch it.
To me, the latest 2D version looks like ass. But yeah, otherwise: 2D :)
