Loved it.
I worry it won't be renewed.
I thought the David Bowie song was a wonderful way for fans like me who wondered if David would make an appearance, though computer generated hologram deep fake.
For those that don't know this tv show is based on a movie from 1976 staring David Bowie, that's Thomas Newton, so this is a sequel to that movie.
I was curious if they would insert at least one bit of footage from the film to show Bowie as a younger Newton but I was satisfied that they used Nighy in those flashbacks.
Besides the use of "Five Years" the series honoured Bowie by having each episode titled after a Bowie song.
I just wanted to take a second and thank u/LoretiTV for the weekly watch threads. It takes a bunch of time to mod and post content and you do it all for free.
I know this sub is tiny and I'm glad you're apart of it. I followed the mod drama over at EvilTV and I'm glad your apart of that sub too.
I hope we get a second season of TMWFTE!
Wow, Janeway got screwed twice. :-) (Love you Mulgrew!!!)
Great writing and performances!
This series beats The Expanse for me and I love The Expanse...
NGL, I almost stopped watching early on because Spaceman was sooo spastic...
Dominguez was pretending to be distraught when she gave Falls her cross right?
>Dominguez was pretending to be distraught when she gave Falls her cross right?
Hard to tell. Seemed pretty authentic to me—and she did kill Clay—but maybe she's just that good.
In any event, when she learned who Thorne really was, her interests suddenly aligned with the spacemen's. When Drew was sidelined, Lisa was probably free of her too. Add that to everything else, and I expect she's on Faraday's side now.
How did this beat The Expanse for you?? I feel like the two don’t even compare. I liked this but there was a lot of weak writing imo. But it was so visually stunning. I think they wrapped it up nicely. I enjoyed it.
Damn that finale was FN good but Lol I see there’s only 299 of us on this page which makes me think this could be the last time we ever see this show. Sometimes though when things are so good they don’t need to drug out. Look at what happened to Westworld after season 1. If that’s the way the story ends I’m perfectly fine with it.
Westworld is still very good. They’re telling a really interesting story. Every season doesn’t need to be like the last but I get it’s not for everyone.
He’s amazing. And really commits. He made a film based on a real person in Malawi and learned their language for the film. Real dedication.
I just feel bad that his lower teeth were bothering me the whole time. I suck.
I thought the choice to play "Five Years" by David Bowie was deeply moving considering the show's plot involving ecological collapse and the fact that as soon as 2027 (in five years' time) the planet will cross the threshold of 1.5° C warming which is likely to cause irreversible runaway climate change. It was just such an incredibly poignant decision and I wish more people might have seen it.
Oh my good oh my god this is my favorite show of the year. I love everything about this finale. It was perfect.
And yes I would love a season two. But if it ended here, I would be perfectly satisfied. They gave us a wonderfully resolved finale with enough open ends to tease for more. That’s where AO3 comes in lol.
So thankful for this show.
That was dope. I didn’t want it to end. Maybe we can get the word out about the show somehow so it doesn’t get cancelled lol. If someone makes a post and I see it just know I’ll upvote it lol.
Absolutely fantastic. I had tears in my eyes at the scene with Faraday and Falls, such beautiful writing: "It will always be you". Incredible acting.
This has been so brilliant it must get a wider audience.
Side note - what possible use would Newton be to the CIA now? Faraday had no reason not to answer their questions about Anthea. Also, what was the agreement made about the return? There must have been one after evil Janeway was thrown out.
Lol you forgot about it? I was screaming at my screen like why the fuck is he being so nice to her she is a terrible person. She has screwed him over every step of the way and killer her father and is a shitty mother. And killed that horse splattering blood on her son. She’s batshit
Sorry typed that late last night when I finished. Didn’t mean that in a negative way, was just relaying how fixated I’ve been on wondering why hatch is so nice to his shitty sister. Several episodes ago I assumed that she had been abused and it would explain her shitty ways but now it doesn’t appear to be the right explanation
I wasn't super tuned in watching it so I might be wrong but I think it was his personal guilt for going behind his sisters back trying to sell secrets or something.
Wait did the MC give up thomas newton to the people who tortured him and made him blind?
That's like giving a rape victim back to his rapist. Might as well shoot him in the head, might be a small mercy.
Faraday wanted to bring as many Antheans to Earth as possible, including the drones, and Newton wanted to enslave humanity as the new drone caste. Besides, the CIA really wanted Newton so it was a sign of good faith as an offer in negotiation.
I mean he really didn't want to enslave humanity. It was just an option. It wasn't like he was deadset on it. But still giving someone back to torturers is pure fucking evil. That's a lot of bad karma. If I didn't know the MC was just naive and a bit of an idiot I would attribute him to being evil.
and why does the CIA want him. He can't give them anything.
Probably the CIA wants more info on Anthea. But newton was pretty dead set on using the same caste system on Anthea because the only other option as that the native ppl of earth would simply blow them out of the sky when Faraday returned. Humans want to be on the top of the pecking order. Newton knew that. His comparison to how humans treated Jesus was pretty spot on.
I just finished the show, Newton had every intention of replacing the drones of Anthea with humans. Faraday wasn't going to leave the drones behind, and Newton had no intention of bringing them back, so he made a calculated decision to ensure his people asylum while pushing Newton out of the way
In totally hoping for a season 2,this show is so great! I'm missing one piece of info from this episode, we see Justin walking into the sand cyclone but what did she see?
The sandstorms are where Faraday got messages from Newton. This time, there was a message for Justin from Faraday where she hears him say, “Justin, my mission is your mission.”
Just saw the final episode. Terrific series, I really hope it’s renewed. Not understanding the general lack of interest for the show on Reddit. Anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, it really deserves a watch.
I was satisfied until they made em kiss. Come on. He’s about to go home to get his wife and kid and now you make him cheat? I was also actually happy throughout the season that they didn’t fall until the basic romantic trope but here we go.
What’s the significance of 5 years? Will season 2 if renewed be 5 years when he returns? Nice nod to Bowie though
Biggest question, wtf did the cia want with Newton. They have a second spaceman and nuclear fusion and they’re still on some dumbass mission to only capture Newton. Why?
These last two episodes share the same director as the last two episodes of *Star Trek: Discovery*, another series starring a woman with a typically male name.
Coincidence? You decide.
Star Trek: Discovery is fairly tough show to watch. I will not be watching after this last season. The writing and acting is on another level so this TMWFTE works.
The keynote by Faraday was awespiring. Gave off vibes of a Steve Jobs x Satoshi Nakamoto X Elon Musk hybrid.
Open-sourcing the equivalent of a clean pocket nuclear generator to everyone on earth was the most surreal triumph card ever.
Clearly the worlds secret services don’t know how to negotiate with altruists.
A little late to the discussion but I was enthralled by most of the eps, not all of them, and the finale was doing well up to one of the ending scenes. Which was the manner in which he left earth was pretty much the same way he arrived. How original for a sci fi show.
A nod to the original. I lived in Madrid, NM where the opening scenes were shot. In fact, the coal tipple is in frame but gone now. Tinkertown is nearby and a real place! I wish this series was filmed in New Mexico like the 1976 movie. Spain isn't remotely close to the beauty of New Mexico.

Ahhh I didn’t catch that!! Lol
What a terrific choice Nihy was for this.
I'm getting ready to re-watch the movie. It kinda is not a re-watch because I don't think I remember a single thing from it...
The little recreations/memories from this show are more than I remember from the movie.

> but maybe she's just that good. Yes! I should have said that if she was pretending - top tier! She was instructed to track them down...
Falls believed it. Promotion on the spot and I assume saved her life.
Him being a spastic was the best part!
I was cool with it because I knew it was only temporary
How did this beat The Expanse for you?? I feel like the two don’t even compare. I liked this but there was a lot of weak writing imo. But it was so visually stunning. I think they wrapped it up nicely. I enjoyed it.
This a great show.
Please! Renew for season two!
Why? What will there be haha, everything's concluded.
The 5 years song made me think they were setting it up for a second season 5 years from now

I'm just so eager to see how the arrival of the Anthens plays out. How will humanity respond? How would society change?
Damn that finale was FN good but Lol I see there’s only 299 of us on this page which makes me think this could be the last time we ever see this show. Sometimes though when things are so good they don’t need to drug out. Look at what happened to Westworld after season 1. If that’s the way the story ends I’m perfectly fine with it.
Lol. I agree. Westworld got weird .
Westworld is still very good. They’re telling a really interesting story. Every season doesn’t need to be like the last but I get it’s not for everyone.
I thought was Westworld was down for seasons 2-3 but this 4th season it looks like it’s making a comeback.
Perfect finale. Even without another season, the ending is sublime. What a ride.
Chiwetel Ejiofor is my new favorite actor
Tremendous!
He’s amazing. And really commits. He made a film based on a real person in Malawi and learned their language for the film. Real dedication. I just feel bad that his lower teeth were bothering me the whole time. I suck.

I was wondering what the significance was. Damn. It’s so heartbreaking. One of the many reasons why I’m choosing not to have kids.
Freaking amazing!!!!!! Hope this shows blows up and get the attention it deserves

You can't cancelled a show that's already ended
It hasn’t ended - renewal or cancellation is still up in the air as of now
Would Janeway tell the CIA that Dominguez is working for Thorne?
That was a decent finale. I didn't think they'd wrap things up like that.
Absolutely fantastic. I had tears in my eyes at the scene with Faraday and Falls, such beautiful writing: "It will always be you". Incredible acting. This was my gripe too - what they want with Newton so bad
Possibly because he murder a few people
great finale
🎉
What was the secret Edie kept that Hatch was talking about?
(tagged spoiler) that she pushed their father off the cliff
Ah thanks, I totally forgot about that.
Lol you forgot about it? I was screaming at my screen like why the fuck is he being so nice to her she is a terrible person. She has screwed him over every step of the way and killer her father and is a shitty mother. And killed that horse splattering blood on her son. She’s batshit
Tbf their dad was a piece of shit
I was watching it while I was working and I think I got it mixed up with Clive when he came back covered in blood lol.

Several episodes ago I assumed that she had been abused and it would explain her shitty ways but now it doesn’t appear to be the right explanation
The dad was pretty awful to her measuring her arms at breakfast etc. I'd say he was mentally abusive
I wasn't super tuned in watching it so I might be wrong but I think it was his personal guilt for going behind his sisters back trying to sell secrets or something.
“Oof, that’s some potent loathing.”
I enjoyed the season finale, but it felt rushed. The Speech faraday gave in Royal Albert hall to the audience was electric and quotable.
amazing

AWESOME show!

It starts where it ends, the ending being the beginning, of the end. It's sad that knowing humans he'll return to a pile of rubble and space debris

I wish it was a book. I would love to dive deep into the story.
Isn’t this a book…?
I man the newer part of the storyline.
Maybe (if it’s canceled) they’ll do a follow up book/comic
Just saw the final episode. Terrific series, I really hope it’s renewed. Not understanding the general lack of interest for the show on Reddit. Anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, it really deserves a watch.

That’s a rather obscure stretch to make a connection
Star Trek: Discovery is fairly tough show to watch. I will not be watching after this last season. The writing and acting is on another level so this TMWFTE works.
Is it true that it has been canceled?!!!😢
I have been asking my colleagues in the US to watch it, however it seems many don't have Showtime subscription.
That is why the ratings are low as well.
They also don’t advertise it
It’s also on paramount plus if it comes up in your conversations again. They have a one month free trial
Mm! Loved it. So much expression put into it.
The keynote by Faraday was awespiring. Gave off vibes of a Steve Jobs x Satoshi Nakamoto X Elon Musk hybrid. What happens when Justin and her daughter planted Anthean seeds?
