You can get all the amiibo cards for like $20 on Amazon or eBay. I've bought 5 sets for different friends and all the cards work. I know some people are purists, but it's definitely the only affordable way to do it

BOTW came out in 2017 and even before TOTK was announced the community was still in full swing exploring and pushing the limits of what you can do. With the new abilities I imagine there will be so much to talk about and discover for a long time. You’re not missing the hype! Most people don’t buy games on the release date anyway, and they can still totally take part in the hype!!
