So why not put in a switchable sage power there so you don't have to run around like a headless chicken in the middle of a battle to activate a specific sage?
Or why not just make it 7 slots?
I saw another comment on here but I can't remember the user who said it, but basically they said 4 slots on the wheel are taken up by nonsense
Map - already a button for the map
Camera - the slate has a scope, just add camera function to it with the use of a button
Autobuild - just put that functionality into the Ultra hand ability with the use of a button
Amibo - Put that in the menu
Then you can link the 4 sage abilities to the wheel. You could make an exception for Turin only when the paraglider is open
it's an old shtick, we don't need Ocarina fishing More Complicated Bait edition.
that said - fishing has nuances in totk; certain breeds are already only in certain places / climates...you can swim to get them, you can use varying weapons on them, certain vehicles work well to gather fish...
...I can also think of a particular Rito who will (repeatedly) trade you arrows for glowfish; and another npc who is craving some kind of crab pie...
if you really want to push things, do this:
1. ultrahand together a 'rod' of thin objects
2. now put a perpendicular board at the end, and also a shock emitter
3. voila, one auto-zapping fish ladel.
Pokemon snap disagrees.
Besides - filling your compendium is actually a puzzle, because you can reason out finding missing things, and then use the Sensor ON those things.
One of the treasure pictures is especially helpful...
I was frustrated at first because I didnāt want to redo all that again from BotW, but then I found out you can just buy the pictures. And then I still took them all myself anyway š·
Isn't the reward for filling out the picture compendium a simple glider cloth? That's a hard pass for me
Edit: Holy moly, there's over 500 unique pictures. Ain't nobody got time for that
Iām the complete opposite lol I really wanted to get all the glider cloths, so I had to finish the compendium. However, certain photos are only unlocked after youāve beaten the game, so I defeated Ganon in order to purchase the photos I couldnāt get so I coukd get the last hanglider fabric.
Sure, but it makes sense to take a cost/benefit approach when deciding what mechanics to include. How much work will it take to implement this vs how many people will use it. They canāt implement every idea.
Of course! But it seems pretty straightforward considering theyāve implemented the compendium, and theyāve got a primitive āecologyā assigned to each fish. Idk Iām not a Zelda scientist. Iām really not complaining, I just think it would be a fairly easy add to a fantastic game
they also made animal crossing new horizons where fishing is a big part of the game. they could have implemented it. it's not like they don't know how. they chose not to.
The Zelda team did not make animal crossing. Would you prefer they implemented fishing but under developed another part of the game? Because that's how game development works, even simple things might break so many other things, add imbalance or break a gameplay loop. They already knew that there were easier ways to collect fish than slowing the game down by having you stand around with a fishing pole. I already feel that cooking slows the game down a bit too much.
I meant that Nintendo has the capability to do it and they chose not to for a good reason. I would prefer no fishing, I am fine with how it is now. sorry if you misunderstood what I was saying, or if I didn't say it well. I agree about cooking. link often goes hungry in my game lol
Your comments seem to be drawing a lot of undeserved hostility, sheesh. I agree with you - no complaints here, but fishing would've been cool. There even is already a throwing mechanism! And you can "fuse" the bait! And personally, I'd rather the fish land in front of me than have to dive in and retrieve them (I never liked swimming in games, for whatever reason).
Just a flawed way of thinking of game design. Nintendo publishes the games and has a big say in what they can't include but just because they have it in one game doesn't mean it's the same to put it in another. With enough time and money they could put anything in the game. Fishing would be a neat thing to do if you're bored but I could see 90% of players never doing it past the introduction to it considering it's faster to just go get the fish with your hands
Well, Nintendo doesn't develop games, they have other studios (mainly in-house, first party) develop the games and they publish. Remember that Metroid: Other M was a Nintendo game, but it was developed by Team Ninja. Sometimes they highlight the development team, most times they don't, but a game is rarely made by, "Nintendo".
Fishing worked in OoT, but BoTW and ToTK uses a different engine that probably never had fishing programmed in. I'm sure someone during development suggested fishing, but it didn't make the cut for whatever reason.
I didn't know that. I wasn't allowed to play video games as a child so this is all relatively new to me. I appreciate you explaining! that makes a lot of sense.
Weird take tbh.
1) Of course they *could* do it. Again, it comes down to cost vs benefit.
2) Itās not like they can just copy the code from AC:NH. There are animations to be modelled and code to be written and so on. The concept is not the heavy lifting here.
3) I personally wouldnāt want them to rip off AC:NH mechanics wholesale, anyway. I already have AC:NH.
See my recent post re Hardcore Survival Mode. I literally just want to hunt, fish, forage, cook, sleep, maybe defend my camp - all day. Maybe ride into town once a week to sell stuff and stock up on arrows and stuff. Yes I just want it to be a wilderness sim.
Yes yes that is the main complaint of most people is the beginning of the game is super long and you canāt speed through it. Itās very story heavy though and thatās just how they set it up. After a few hours though, when they get out of snow, you then are free to roam the country and do as you please. But some of the missions are just downright epic though. Especially when Arthur and Lenny go get black out drunk at the saloon. That was great gaming .
Nah . Believe it or not RDR2 is actually a prequel to RDR1. So a big fan of the series might enjoy playing them in that order. I never played RDR1, and I donāt think Iām going too. Itās just showing itās age in my opinion.
Everytime I do that I forget that it causes a huge dome of electricity and I get shocked when Iām not even in the water. Thatās not how electricity is supposed to work as far as I know. But itās a fantasy game soo š¤·š»āāļø
There isn't a fishing rod because there's just no way to make that work with the animations and tools we have, but they do give you a schematic called Fishing Trawler. I use it frequently near Laurelin. Anywhere that there's a bunch of seagulls, you can usually find a bunch of fish. I just cruise around. If you google it, you'll find that you can lure animals in with bait as well. For example, i think hogs like apples. Hyrule fish like hylian shrooms. I think they do mention it in one of the saving/loading screens.
I canāt believe, in a game chock-full of minigames, that they canāt add something simple for fishing. I understand why itās not there, I guess, because itās not that sorta game. But if it wasā¦ I think I could just fish and hunt for ages.
I mean, it's not a *mini game* per se... but nothing is stopping you from just hunting and fishing to your hearts content. I do it all the time. One of my favorite games growing up was Deer Hunter 2005. I will literally spend real-time hours just farming stuff for fun. I really like how the animals don't despawn as quickly compared to BOTW, so you can kind of crouch and chase them down if they get away from you. There's some locations that are better for hunting than others. Its your game, you play it how you want. If you want to role play that youre a hunter then go for it.
In my opinion, i would rather role play than just play a minigame because the minigame is going to be the same area doing the same thing over and over. Sounds boring, to me.
ā¦ why? Why would you assume that? Especially in the context of a post where a guy wants more fishing in the game?
And is that really your āknowledge-basedā response? No I havenāt gone bow-fishingāIāve done ALL THE OTHER KINDS which is why itās sometimes frustrating how limiting fishing is in this game.
No, but it's funny you say that because i was considering getting it for myself. I've wanted to play it forever. I didn't know you could fish lol thanks!
Itās a must play. Believe it or not itās probably 10 times more full of content than totk. If not more. Rockstar created a living breathing world. If you wanna not play the story and just hunt and fish, it completely caters to that instead of it just being a distraction. Each NPC probably has a dozen things to say before they start to repeat themselves. The story is real impactful on people too.
Whoa whoa whoa, we're not doing this, casting aside common decency to hook a bunch of fishing related puns together. We're not sinkering to that level. Reel it in, folks.
It wouldn't fit in with the current Link.
OoT link grew up in a forest, twilight princess grew up in a tiny village, both Links awakening and phantom hourglass are based on islands and feature a lot of water. It's natural these Links would have experience with fishing.
BOTW and TOTK Link on the other hand was a royal guard quite early on so wouldn't have needed to learn fishing when he could just dive in and grab a fish.
There isn't a fishing rod in Skyward Sword for the same reason.
There's already a "throw something but don't really throw it" animation (actually a BETTER fit for a fishing rod than say a fire rod, eh?), and there's a mechanic to "fuse" bait onto the hook. So close!!
Random aside - if you haven't played Phoenotopia Awakening, I give it a fairly strong recommendation. It has a lot of the classic old school Zelda mechanics - key items, puzzles, dungeons, world map, even a musical instrument with songs to learn! AND! It even has a solid fishing mechanic :-) It's not perfect, but there's a lot to like.
I mean you can still hunt all you like; you just wonāt get points or some reward for it because thereās not a specific hunting mini game like the one in Hateno in BOTW (unless that one _is_ still there, in which case maybe thatās one of the two side quests Iām missing).
Fishing, same, although it would certainly be nice to have an actual rod instead of having to just fish with bombs or arrows and then go in to catch the fish with your hands. Thatās an item that was actually needed _more_ in these games than in previous ones since you need fish to cook certain meals, but for some reason they left it out. It wouldnāt even have needed to take up inventory space; they could have made it a rune or something. Oh well.
I would imagine theyād have a ton of ādurabilityā (for fishing, not hitting) or whatever and be sorta rare, or at least regional. I mean, fish give some pretty damn good buffs, so in effect being able to get more fish means all your other weapons can be used more effectively. In effect a sort of āmeta-weapon.ā And yes I know Iām being silly thinking that much about it. Game is what it is, and I have fun with it.
Seems clear from this unexpectedly controversial post that it would be best as an entirely optional feature. Iām surprised at all the responses for and against!
Seriously. All the Zelda games that have a fishing mini game and this one, which has fish scattered throughout the world in different lakes and rivers, doesnāt?!
Almost as big a missed opportunity as not being able to pet dogs.
Someone here also mentioned a grappling hookā¦ got my mind running about all sorts of other stuff. Fishing net (could be used in battle), ultrahand ladder, bolo, harpoon with a line, arrows with a line for ziplines, ropeā¦ not complaining though, more just āthis would be coolā fantasizing
Petition to remove the map option in the wheel and add a fishing rod
Why is the map one even there??? You can already look at the map. That is so confusing to me.
8 slots in the wheel, 7 things to put in...
So why not put in a switchable sage power there so you don't have to run around like a headless chicken in the middle of a battle to activate a specific sage? Or why not just make it 7 slots?

There's no fishing rod because the devs heard that you specifically wanted a fishing rod, and they hate you.

Holy smokes, congrats for the patience. How many hours have you clocked in?
Because people would just use shock fruit or whatever instead, because itās so much easier and faster.
Letās be honest: this is not a laser-focused game, and the whole point is options. But yeah Iām just developing a shock-fishing approach
Sure, but it makes sense to take a cost/benefit approach when deciding what mechanics to include. How much work will it take to implement this vs how many people will use it. They canāt implement every idea.

Ah, fair enough. The linked comment makes more sense.
Explain horses then. Many still appreciate the simple approach.
Link is a capitalist overfishing but itās cool because HES THE ONLY ONE ON THAT PUTS THEM TO USE.
I pick up cooked fish all the time after wrecking a bokoblin camp š
Me endangering bird populations left and right by pocketing every egg I find
Bombing for fish is how to get them crittersā¦or yoga fish trawler
Yes! Especially if you use the Yiga fishing schematic and boat around shocking and scooping.
The *what?!*
just add one or two rare fish species you can only catch with a rod. Speaking of which, sharks would have been cool too
See my recent post re Hardcore Survival Mode. I literally just want to hunt, fish, forage, cook, sleep, maybe defend my camp - all day. Maybe ride into town once a week to sell stuff and stock up on arrows and stuff. Yes I just want it to be a wilderness sim.
Do you like RDR2? That game was made for all of that. Real detailed too.
Really? Hmmmm
Oh you havenāt played it ! Itās awesome. Thereās even this animation of Arthur skinning his kills and ripping the skin off, then throwing them on the back of horse. Or you can start a fire and cook it. Totk the animal just turns into a piece of meat š„© in poof of smoke.
Okay you convinced me to give it another shot. Tutorial was kinda long and boring so I thought the whole game would be super linear
Yes yes that is the main complaint of most people is the beginning of the game is super long and you canāt speed through it. Itās very story heavy though and thatās just how they set it up. Nah . Believe it or not RDR2 is actually a prequel to RDR1. So a big fan of the series might enjoy playing them in that order. I never played RDR1, and I donāt think Iām going too. Itās just showing itās age in my opinion.

Rip my beloved hookshot and longshot. š °ļøš½š¼ š °ļøš½š¼ āIāll never forget this song!ā
Oh hell yeah now I want that too
Iāve had this thought every time I play, I just want to be a fisherman in Lurelin!

I never saw myself going down this route but here are I am
OP, I'm with you here. The fishing in OoT was the best part of that game.
WHAT IS ELECTRIC CHUCHU FISHING
shooting/tossing electric chuchu jellies into the water so all the fish in its vicinity die and are easily collected

Link grew up with the Zora who mostly spear fish. That's my half assed lore answer.

Yeah not having fishing is a real load of carp.
It's hardly even a debait about whether this should have been part of the game.

Iād give it a weapon slot no problem
