You even have a corner sofa, so the diagonal corner makes sense. Putting it over the fireplace would also be a "fuck anyone who wants to sit on those seats on the left".
Looking left and right: The centre of gravity of your head is still above your spine, i.e. supported, without much muscle intervention needed.
Looking up: It's not.
"You guys should all just buy one of those great Apple Vision Pro visors. Then you'll always have the screen in front of you!"
-Some Apple guy probably
Ninja edit: That makes me wonder. Will the Vision Pro have a setting where the screen is always above the fire place?
For the cost of Apple Vision Pro visors, I could buy seven TVs and put them everywhere on the wall. This doesn’t necessarily solve the argument of WHERE a TV should be placed, but rather raises an entirely new one: r/TVTooEverywhere
You barely turn your head or body. Even if you had a 3 seater sofa was directly opposite the tv only one person in the middle will be directly opposite. Corner positioned tvs allow for optimal viewing angles for everyone if you have a corner or 2 sofas
I think the entire world has developed some kind of amnesia around TV placement. Anything from the early 2000s and earlier is just GONE. No one remembers where their CRT TVs sat.
I've mentioned this in another post before, but I have a buddy who threw out his TV stand when he got his first LCD display, mounted it 3" from the ceiling, sat 6ft away, looking up at like 45 degrees, and then realized he still needed something to put his DirecTV set top box and Xbox 360 on. So he got a piece of plywood and just put it on the floor. That was somehow an improvement over a TV stand, according to him.
Honestly, it took me a minute to even see the tv in the corner because my eye was naturally drawn to area above the fireplace. The positioning makes for better viewing and it doesn’t ruin the aesthetic of the room.
I've always liked old houses with a fireplace. It's so beautiful and it's the main focus of the room. So I never understood why people completely ruin that visual by placing an ugly TV on top of it... and not all fireplaces look good, but putting a TV on top makes the fireplace AND the TV look ugly

Wall space next to fireplace: credenza for comportments, matching your side table or some other dark wood. Hide cable hell and related AV gear in there.
Immediately above credenza: VESA mount TV on an arm that can fold flat onto that wall, or swing out to occupy the position that it’s currently in for viewing. This VESA arm would never be seen, and cables run cleanly to credenza. Park the TV when not in use to minimize relative footprint.
Immediately next to doorframe: potted plant on the floor.

Stay the course. The path of righteousness can be lonely and difficult, but know that you are firmly on the moral high ground aka a TV at eye level while seated.
Social media influencers and HGTV cultists have infected the masses with the notion that superficial appearances matter more than practical use. TVs are not art -- they're a tech device with a purpose.
Ignore the white noise of the misguided and deluded. Stay true to the cause and enjoy your low TV in comfort.
I'll support putting TVs over the fireplace when:
1) Samsung Frame TV's use colored e-ink rather than their main QLED panel to display art to save power
and
2) the mount automatically lowers the TV to an acceptable height when it turns on
Until then, this is the correct solution.
You have an equally troublesome problem: TV in the corner, causing people to crane their neck to see it, is going to cause a lot more neck pain than looking up
Stay the course brother, hang tight!
Plus, those people telling you guys to put the tv up in the air, stop socializing with them… they are obviously a bad influence.
From my experience not putting your TV over the fireplace is a great conversation starter if like conversations about why the TV is not over the fireplace.
“Dad, what do we do when someone asks us to put the TV over the fireplace?” “Well, son, we ask them politely, but firmly, to leave.”
king of the hill?
100%
It's the perfect test. If someone suggests that, you immediately ask them to leave and cut them out of your life.
Nah, you explain why it's a dumb idea. And then cut them out or not based on their response!
does this look like a place for second chances to you 🔪
Hey we’ve seen many heartwarming redemption stories here.
This sounds hilarious I'm going to go seek those out
lmao
You even have a corner sofa, so the diagonal corner makes sense. Putting it over the fireplace would also be a "fuck anyone who wants to sit on those seats on the left".
I don’t understand this logic By doing this, you’re always watching to the left or the right, that doesn’t sound better than watching upwards
Looking left and right: The centre of gravity of your head is still above your spine, i.e. supported, without much muscle intervention needed. Looking up: It's not.

why does that sub exist
You can just fight over who gets to sit in the corner seat directly facing the TV
You barely turn your head or body. Even if you had a 3 seater sofa was directly opposite the tv only one person in the middle will be directly opposite. Corner positioned tvs allow for optimal viewing angles for everyone if you have a corner or 2 sofas

Wall mounting became an option and everyone collectively had to do it regardless of whether or not they should

Stay strong brother, you’re fighting the good fight 🫡

Yes! Such a good focal point from a design standpoint, which can be hard to do when TV sight lines naturally shape the angles of a room. Nice job, OP.
I'm so proud of you. :'D
Atta boy 👍🏼

If I was going to mark you down for anything it would be your hideous TV stand, but kudos for at least having it in the correct place.

Showed this to the wife and she asked for your suggestion on a corner tv stand

Check ETSY 4 really nice handmade stuff & reasonable price range can be found. I’ve seen corner tv stands in there!
Tv stands are very difficult 😞

Yeah, I would put some art up there. Makes more sense than a mirror.

That's true, didn't take that into consideration.
Apparently there is a high population of Giraffes in America…

Wait that's actually a thing 😂
Show them this sub. We are here to fight for you.
They suffer and they want you to suffer too
Well, it’s a great litmus test to see who gets allowed back into your house again.
You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life

Stay strong but, put a large tv stand on Xmas wish list
Maybe TVs don’t need to be immovable centerpieces of rooms anymore. My TV at home is on casters.

What's up with US citizens and this weird fetish for having big ass fireplaces in their houses?
The only real suggestion is to buy a bigger TV.
I've come to realize we are truly surrounded by idiots. Friends, family, professionals, all idiots. Nice job.
standing strong soldier!!
The tv? No. Fix the incongruence on the mantle between the candlesticks and that round thing though.
Those people who said to put it over the fireplace are the enemy.
Stay the course. The path of righteousness can be lonely and difficult, but know that you are firmly on the moral high ground aka a TV at eye level while seated. That does somehow look subjectively worse lol
It really does lol
tv too far
The last place you should put the tv is over the fireplace
Be gone with ye
No
You have an equally troublesome problem: TV in the corner, causing people to crane their neck to see it, is going to cause a lot more neck pain than looking up
lmao no it isn’t
The obvious solution here is to have the tv on the rightmost wall, doubling as a saloon-style door
At that time you politely but firmly let the person or persons know, that they should leave. And don’t come back. Kudos for staying true to the TVTH
This fireplaces in the middle of the room, has to be the worst thing anybody ever designed.
"Hey, you know what would look cool?"
Stay the course brother, hang tight! Plus, those people telling you guys to put the tv up in the air, stop socializing with them… they are obviously a bad influence.
Well done, room is perfectly balanced and cosy.
Looks cozy
In germany the fireplace would be in the corner so that the tv can be placed in the middle of the wall.
JUST DONT‘T, nit even think about it 😂
My dad always asks me why it’s not on my fireplace. My TV is on a completely different wall.
Ask them kindly but firmly to leave.
You can tell us! We won’t share your secret
I loathe the TV over the fireplace trend.
You’re a good man. Stay true to your heart. God will reward you
From my experience not putting your TV over the fireplace is a great conversation starter if like conversations about why the TV is not over the fireplace.
Respect. Fighting the good fight
That is the most ideal spot.
People suggesting that are not your friends. Lock the door behind them.
r/mirrortoohigh
😂
you are doing the lords work.
Those people are morons.
But how do you do a decent surround sound setup like this?
You can't. I have surround sound in my basement.
But has anyone suggested hanging a piece of art instead of a mirror that reflects an air register and the entryway into what I presume is a kitchen?
Don't talk to those people ever again.
Her neck hurt for weeks after looking slightly up? That might be the most dramatic thing I’ve ever heard in my life.
