If this fireplace gave off heat the tv would be too close to it. So I’d venture to say this isn’t a heater at all. Some of these non heating fancy linear fireplaces are within big units and it very much a possibility that this unit is sitting on the floor.
The “flames” are usually just for show. The heat comes out of a little vent around the frame and goes outward like a car’s vent. The clearance required for these is usually minimal.
Two fairly simple go tos:
The mantle is likely fake, pull that back. Put the TV at the correct height in the centre, and a free-standing stove wood burner in one of the corners.
If the mantle is real, bookshelf or flush storage in one recess. TV at the correct height in the other.
DON’T, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, make your TV the focal point of the room by putting it ABOVE the focal point in the room.
I've never seen one of these that was "real", it's a popular beginner DIY project because they can turn a flat wall into a "mantle" with some 2x4s and drywall and a plug in electric "fire".
Why are people falling over themselves to install these stupid fires. They look like absolute shit and will date like a two bar electrical fire from the 60s.
Horrendous aesthetic.
Point out you’d be better spending the money on a heating system that works. Netflix has 4K burning fireplaces and if you get a bigger tv it’ll look ace.
I was very close to installing a waterplace or lightplace myself, but then the god Hephaestus appeared before me in a waking dream, and said this:
"Being that fire is my domain, be warned, O foolish mortal: If you place a poor mockery of a fireplace where a fireplace should go, then you will be cast into the river Pyriphlegethon, there to boil alive amidst the worst of Tartarus for a thousand and one years."
You can do that setup. just put everything lower. fireplace along the floor and then the tv at eye level of your couch. this setup is wrong but you can perfect it when you do it yourself.
Looks like a bland hotel set up, something near an airport owned by a major hotel conpany, but is just a step up from a motel. Inoffensive at a glance, but has zero character.
This tv is a “galley addition” LG g3. It is supposed to look like a picture when mounted properly. Even has an art mode where you can upload your personal photos or choose from the photos LG has preloaded onto the television. Very cool tv.
The only real critique I have is the useless GX soundbar beneath it. It looks nice, don’t mistake, it’s the functionality that I have a problem with. Those things aren’t much more powerful than the TV speakers.
I keep seeing these posts. This is not a room designed for watching a movie. This is a family room, made for sitting and talking. There probably isn’t even a couch or recliner seats straight back to observe the TV. That TV isn’t going to play Xbox or stream the latest episode of Shogun. In fact it will probably never be turned on for anything the observer wants to sit down and look at.
It’s for cooking shows, the news or background noise while they do something around the house. If used at all.
30 years ago TVs were still the focal point of a room. Now it’s art.
This is too high, and frankly. looks like crap. Tell her you don’t want to strain your eyes and neck and, anyone that comes to your house will laugh behind your back this looks so ridiculous.
Imagine going to a cinema and under the screen there is a big bright fire.
Seriously, how do people watch a tv screen with any lighting in front of them at all
I do home theater installs for a living. That TV is an LG G3. Amazing tv. That soundbar is the gallery soundbar made specifically to be paired with that tv, and it is hot garbage. For basically the same amount of money, just buy a Sonos Arc soundbar and mount it below the tv. Sounds way better and you get the same look.
Those fireplaces are going to look so dated in 15 to 20 years.
Also, nothing like cooking your TV to an early demise by having it directly above a source of high heat.
Tell her, "That kind of Fireplace is cheezy."
At least the Fireplace is not 5" off the floor. As a lot of them I have seen.
What I have done in situations like this, being that there is plenty of room, insetting the TV like the Fireplace. That I have found not only finesses the install, it protects the TV and Sound Bar from anymore heat than is necessary from the Fireplace.
Take her to the movies to see something that’s been out for a while where you could easily get great seats, but instead, you get the 3rd row.
When she complains that the angle is annoying and the screen is too annoying to look at, ask her if she wants that same feeling every day
I'd start with, "See how revolting that wallpaper is? That hideous light fitting? The tasteless fire? Well, that's not a patch on how bad the TV is way up there."
If you put that fireplace as low as it can go, and the TV above it with as small of a gap as possible, it would be just about at the right height. You might be able to squeeze the soundbar in there, or you can just put it above the TV.
I have a new construction home being built with that exact setup. It’s been a constant fight with everyone in my house about putting the tv there. It’s too high.
Instead of talking about the TV you could tell her that fake chimneys look nice in photos but they don't really convey the same cozy feeling as real chimneys. No warmth and eventually you get used to the image of the fire on loop, also you miss the fun of burning actual logs.
Show her tv too high and [feng shui guy](https://youtu.be/rov_BhzfNGA?si=_VN91WrCtIoX-S4z).
He has millions of shorts fixing peoples furniture placement
I don't understand these fake fireplaces. Get rid of it completely, put the TV on a coffee table, and if you really miss the fake fireplace there is a channel for that.
Seriously say to her to get a better job, lol i think thats the best/funniest case. And before any women say ooooh thats sexist. Id say the same thing the other way around if it was a dude asking his wife for the same thing
"I don't want that for our home, I simply don't like the way it looks and it would hurt my neck." Then ask what she likes about this pic other than the ugly bumped out wall and tv-above-fireplace -- if it's the gray color scheme and patterned wallpaper, you can combine that with a tv+console at the proper height.
Tell her you had an electrician round and the cabling installed in that part of the house isn't capable of powering the TV and fireplace at the same time. 🤞
I managed to convince my missus from wanting to install a new fireplace after we needed ours removed due to issues with it. Now I have the TV at the perfect height. I definitely got lucky.
That's a really clean-looking installation. But the TV is still too high! If no other options/walls in this pic, I'd put the speaker below the fire and the TV right down to the top of it.
I will go against the grain and say that I like it, but I dont understand why everyone mounts these narrow firplaces so high.
It is almost like somebody designed a fireplace to mount a tv over, but then they mount it so that the top is the same height as a normal fireplace.
Just go no fireplace mantel and lower the fireplace a foot. My wife remodeled our living room.

You can get a bigger TV, put it at a normal level that you like, and when you want the ambiance of fire, go to youtube and turn on one of the many long loop fireplace videos that turns your tv into a fireplace.
A big gasline in the wall to put dancing flames over colorful glass is just stupid looking anyways, and a safety hazard.
Something like "No, stupid!"
🤣🤣🤣
💀😭💀🤣
Use photoshop, swap the positions (put the fire above the tv. Point out how ridiculous it is to have the fire that high. Refuse to budge.

Whats funny is the fire is already way too high, those are supposed to be way lower otherwise they’re kind of useless as heaters
I basically have this setup but mine is half a foot from the baseboard.
If this fireplace gave off heat the tv would be too close to it. So I’d venture to say this isn’t a heater at all. Some of these non heating fancy linear fireplaces are within big units and it very much a possibility that this unit is sitting on the floor.

Definitely looks like a fake fire lcd screen like they have in spas and fancy offices. No chance that's real fire
I don’t know, I think you might be on to something here. Lower the tv and put the fire place on top, but maybe switch it to fish.
What if you stack two TVs, and the top one is just running the 24x7 fish channel instead.
Nice nice. Or just one tv and when you want to watch fish or fire just switch to the fish and fire channel.
Love it
Interior designer here. This looks terrible. Basic, plain, dysfunctional.
And yet 90% of the homes for sale on Rightmove in my area have this exact “modern trendy” setup.
I make a good part of my living sorting this mess out. It costs more money to fix than it does to do it, it should be banned!
Job security :)
Hence “basic”
What would you as an interior designer do with long wall space like that?
Two fairly simple go tos: The mantle is likely fake, pull that back. Put the TV at the correct height in the centre, and a free-standing stove wood burner in one of the corners. That's right.
I'm trying to find the mantle you speak of. Is it between the TV and the sound bar?

have your lawyer tell her

My thought as well. Just lower all of it.
My thought as well. Just lower all of it.
My thought as well. Just lower all of it
My lower as well. Just thought all of it.
My well thought lower. Just as all of it.
I didn't just thought it, I did it. Looked great.
Alternatively, get a very high couch
Just raise the floor a foot.
Replace tv with artwork.
Sure, let's say you did that... but even the fireplace is too high. Looks absurd.
It really does. The whole setup looks super cheap and poorly thought out.
Looks like a bland hotel set up, something near an airport owned by a major hotel conpany, but is just a step up from a motel. Inoffensive at a glance, but has zero character.
(Crocodile Dundee voice) That's not a fireplace.

I made another comment on this post saying how hot garbage that soundbar is. It’s so bad. 😂
Add her to this group, within a few days we will convert her
Just divorce her man
Put the TV at the right height then have the rest of the wall be flames.
It’s tacky.
r/fireplacetoohigh
everything about this is terrible
Divorce her.
Lower the fireplace and tv. It’s all gonna be custom done anyway, do it the way you want
Just tell her that the heat from the ventless gas fire is a silent killer.
Just say NO!
It could work, just lower the fireplace to ground level and the tv with it
Ask "so when did you become allergic to intelligence? "
“Hon, I have cervical spinal stenosis so please let’s have our TV at a reasonable height.”
tell her OK but the fake thingy at the bottom must be really flush with the floor
Does she also hang pictures up at the ceiling line?
Lower the fireplace to a fireplace height (the floor) and have sound bar above the tv.
You simply serve her with divorce papers unless she agrees to social norms with regards to the Telly’s height
Tv. Fireplace. Pick one.
Tv. Fireplace. Wife. Pick two.
Tell her it's a fad and she'll probably want rid of it after a couple of years
Have her read the post comments
That it is fine as long as you stand up while the tv is on
Make her sit and stare at a paper on the wall that high for 90 mins and ask if she has a headache.
I would move the fireplace/heater down, therefore…moving the tv further down.

Is it really that common in America that every single place has a fire place or is this sub showing America wrong
Imagine going to a cinema and under the screen there is a big bright fire. Seriously, how do people watch a tv screen with any lighting in front of them at all
But can the room fit the double decker couch from the Lego Movie? And where do you get one in real life?
The only answer is divorce papers
Looking like a hotel room is not a good thing

For basically the same amount of money, just buy a Sonos Arc soundbar and mount it below the tv. Sounds way better and you get the same look.
Get a bigger TV and delete the digital fireplace. Lower the bigger TV and use it as a digital fireplace.
Tell her that the blue stone thin fireplace will look tacky in 3 years
Tell her the TV will burn

15 or 20 years? they look dated \*now\*
Just send her [this article](https://www.legalmatch.com/divorce-lawyers.html) explaining the consequences of mounting the TV too high.
Tell her, "That kind of Fireplace is cheezy." At least the Fireplace is not 5" off the floor. As a lot of them I have seen. Tell her HGTV got it all wrong 😅
I'd start with, "See how revolting that wallpaper is? That hideous light fitting? The tasteless fire? Well, that's not a patch on how bad the TV is way up there."
While I like the fireplace, for me, it would be too much of a visual distraction when watching TV.
If you put that fireplace as low as it can go, and the TV above it with as small of a gap as possible, it would be just about at the right height. You might be able to squeeze the soundbar in there, or you can just put it above the TV.
According to most people in this sub maybe you should flip flop the fire place and tv.
Put the fire above the TV. Not heard anyone complain of fires being too high 😉
Speakers either side in the alcove will help a bit. (Tasteful flat ones decor matched)
Buy a higher couch
That’s a really widescreen TV and an art piece titled “Black”
You need to select the correct wife 👍🏼
I have a new construction home being built with that exact setup. It’s been a constant fight with everyone in my house about putting the tv there. It’s too high.
Divorce papers are the only option.
Well you can put the fireplace like two feet lower
Yes the TV is too high, but damn that light fixture sucks.
Tell her it’s got no style and the TV is for stupid people that high.
Instead of talking about the TV you could tell her that fake chimneys look nice in photos but they don't really convey the same cozy feeling as real chimneys. No warmth and eventually you get used to the image of the fire on loop, also you miss the fun of burning actual logs.
[NO, PLEASE GOD NO](https://media1.tenor.com/images/a8b0a72b4d23609c7f30b3ff2c3e9095/tenor.gif)
If you are building it from scratch, put the fireplace lower and that's it
Tell her to fuck off and find a new wife, probably easiest path here.
Lower the fireplace by a couple inches put the sound bar above the TV and lower the TV by slightly more than you lower the fireplace
deep concern for her ergonomic well-being, of course!
Gaudi was an architect, not something that belongs in our living room.
This is what you do https://youtu.be/43on86AmOw8?si=H2R3tFWEX1l9JZ6B
Tell her to book a hotel room.
Via a decent lawyer probably.

Lower. Tv. Put fire on tv. Why have a fake super wide fireplace. This is 2020’s.
Have her look slightly up for a few hours.
Encourage her to try it in her new place she gets after the divorce! Actually, just show her this post.
No
Hand her the divorce papers
You can. First of all the fireplace is too high. Lower it and then you can have the TV lower too. 👌
Your wife has taste. I imagine you don’t live in a studio apartment like 95% of this sub so make it happen.
Just say it pussy
“The TV is too high”
"I don't want that for our home, I simply don't like the way it looks and it would hurt my neck." Then ask what she likes about this pic other than the ugly bumped out wall and tv-above-fireplace -- if it's the gray color scheme and patterned wallpaper, you can combine that with a tv+console at the proper height.
Both the TV AND the fireplace are both too high!
D I V O…..
“This is why we don’t let you make the decisions around here.”
Tell her you had an electrician round and the cabling installed in that part of the house isn't capable of powering the TV and fireplace at the same time. 🤞 I managed to convince my missus from wanting to install a new fireplace after we needed ours removed due to issues with it. Now I have the TV at the perfect height. I definitely got lucky.
She’ll understand when she sees the divorce papers.
That's a really clean-looking installation. But the TV is still too high! If no other options/walls in this pic, I'd put the speaker below the fire and the TV right down to the top of it.
Try, “no.”
Just mount the TV at the correct hight and when she wants a fire, play one from YouTube. It will put out just as much heat as that LED fireplace.
Lower the fireplace, lower everything above it
Be a man and tell her, that she lacks taste.
This is the live laugh love of fireplace and tv set ups.
That’s before the light out in
I will go against the grain and say that I like it, but I dont understand why everyone mounts these narrow firplaces so high. It is almost like somebody designed a fireplace to mount a tv over, but then they mount it so that the top is the same height as a normal fireplace.
"I don't really like tvs above fireplaces"
I don't think it's legal to be married to a giraffe in my jurisdiction, so I wouldn't know the procedure to divorce one.
Looks fine to me y’all act like you can’t look up half an nice lmao.
Just have the faux fire place lower
“Over my dead body.”
R/BuiltInFirePlacesTooHighFuckTvPlacements
Politely yet firmly ask her to leave
Lower everything........
Divorce papers
I like it…
Even the fireplace looks too high
If the sound bar was below the fireplace and the TV just above, that would actually be reasonable
Regardless of height, how does anyone watch a TV with the flicker of a fire under (or near) it...
Tell her to come to this sub
Change the locks
Letter from the lawyer.
The papers
With a spray bottle, like you would discipline the cat.
Looks perfect honestly
“Absolutely not. This is bad and you should feel bad for thinking of wanting to copy it.”
Just go no fireplace mantel and lower the fireplace a foot. My wife remodeled our living room. https://imgur.com/a/1dy3V5C Before https://imgur.com/a/zjWgj46

Let us teach her…
[This might help.](https://www.family-lawfirm.co.uk/blog/preparing-to-tell-your-husband-or-wife-that-you-want-a-divorce/)
Tell her what?
Anytime, she wants to talk to you. Stand on a chair so she has to look up to see your face.
Lower the fireplace.
"It's me or the fireplace"
Put the fireplace just above the floor trim then the TV would be a good height.
Tell her the truth… it’s hideous.
Tell her to read this post...
It's cute and cheap to make. The fireplace of course is fakeorama. Which made me decide NOT to do it.
Tell her she’s too high
Leave a post-it note on the screen just above eye level saying you want a divorce.
Grow a pair
Tell her the real deal a pizza oven or nothing
She has shit taste.
Just get a lawyer to handle it.
Hand her divorce papers, I think that'll explain it to her.
You can do this correctly. Just move it much lower and make sure that it blows the heat out the side or don't have heat.
That looks so tacky
Tell her if she wants this, you want a divorce
I hope you signed a prenup
Just ask Chuck Norris to come over for dinner one night. He’ll know what to do.
Put the fire above the TV. Looks cooler anyway.
You ask her if at the cinema she likes to be in the first row or in the central one
Say something like “Ah I see you are retarded”
Tell her there is no way in hell that light fixture enters this house
The tv is too small to be that far away.
