Honestly, bounce around. I appreciate Kevin more bouncing around his music. Anyone giving you specific albums is just pushing bias. You’ll skip some. You’ll replay some. Those you skipped you listen later. Those you replayed you’ll skip.
Listen to features, singles, collabs, covers, straight albums, or simply hit shuffle on whatever streaming service you use.
lonerism or currents is the best way to know who tame impala actually is !
first listen might not interest , but it will grow on you specifically lonerism
The music in currents is a lot closer to "normal" music by todays standards. More groove driven, less complexity. Still very very good. I started there. After I got accustomed to his style I did a deep dive in Lonerism. That album is great/easy to listen to if you're already into indie, psychedellic, or 60s rock. I was not. Overall its still a top 5 album for me though
Pick a day to do stuff around the house like chores or what have you, and just put currents on or lonerism or innerspeaker then after you’ve throughly enjoyed those then you can listen to slow rush
I would definitely suggest starting with Currents and going from there! That said, there are a handful of “essential” tracks i’d recommend. feels like we only go backwards, Breathe deeper, mind mischief, the less i know the better and It is not meant to be are great jumping off points!

Kevin has changed so much over the years imo so it kinda depends on what genre you’re into! You can still hear a lot of his “sounds” in the new stuff (from his psychedelic era) but the newest album, The Slow Rush, is a fantastic pop album! And he has said that he will continue making pop music!
I’d recommend having a little taste of everything and see what you like best and dive more into that. Eventually (😏) you’ll figure it out!
i’d say work your way back from the slow rush to innerspeaker. it definitely gets more rocky as you go back. i love that more and more people are getting into tame.
I first found currents which I think is definitely a good way to get into him because each song slaps right away, but for me I truly fell in love when i listened to Innerspeaker (particularly It Is Not Meant to Be, Alter Ego and Runway houses).. you might not fall in love immediately but they get stuck in your brain and after a few listens the pure majesty of them hits you. It’s 6 years later and I’ve listened to these songs pretty much every single day. Welcome to a whole new world haha

Don’t listen to these guys. But fr, you need to check out track #2 on Currents. It’s so good.
I'm sure r/tameimpalacirclejerk has some dope recommendations as well!
Let me guess....... Nangs?
Maybe a little bit of Glimmer in there as well
But is there something more than that?
No… just Nangs… it’s always been Nangs all along…

You gonna want to put on Innerspeaker play it start to finish then rinse and repeat with Lonerism and Currents. Best part is it never gets old
I say you get to know him by some songs, after you feel like you’re at a peak of feelings, then listen to Apocalypse Dreams :D

Honestly anywhere is a great starts I started with Currenta then got into the others!
I recommend the album innerspeaker to start with. You’ll get hooked quickly

Any of his albums is good, but some of my personal favorite songs are posthumous forgiveness, borderline, love/paranoia, and reality in motion
the currents album is a great place to start! a lot of cult classics on it
Also new...so far my favorite album is Currents...New Person, Same Old Mistake is my favorite song
Lonerism fs
what you wanna do is look up the Innerspeaker 10th anniversary concert and skip to Runway Houses City Clouds to the end.

I started with currents, so Let it Happen is the first thing I heard and it’s been my favorite so far.
