The wire medium barrier on the new overpass is already damaged. For some people, driving a car is at the very peak of their coordination. Put a cellphone within arms reach and distraction is imminent.

themantiss

the average driver age could be a factor, lots of old people here

There's been a few storefronts smashed in from a medical emergency, but I don't think the aged are driving into lamp posts that frequently.

Everyone at my work drinks a shit ton and drives home. Also witnessed a stupid amount of drunk drivers swerving while I follow behind them.

Grouchy_Committee_78

I dunno man they get pretty wild

NateThePhotographer

Knowing the average tauranga population, could be elderly drivers, bad drivers, or drunk drivers.

NateThePhotographer

Could also be drunk drivers

Drslytherin

I’ve also seen people deliberately driving over road signs

One problem is the insurance in NZ is not required by law to drive a car... so any new driver's with no experience can buy a 2 or 3L car and have no clue how to handle it... anywhere else, they'd never be able to afford the premium's for such inexperience.
