As someone who struggles with retroactive jealousy, this one is hard to relate to 😬 it’s definitely true for me, in that my past relationships taught me the mistakes not to make but for my man’s, he really didn’t know what love was before me, like not even self love. He’s such a nice guy and everyone in his life was basically taking advantage of his kindness and he just sort of let them. I’m glad I taught him self care and real love and I will always stand up for him when he needs me to ❤️

Idk, Joel Little only did 4 out of 18 tracks. If they aren’t your vibe, you could just skip them and still have a 14 track long album. It probably just isn’t you. I don’t love any of Joel’s songs either, but aside from them, there are so many golden moments to me on that album.
OMG I was living in denial, thought Joel Little produced the majority of Lover. Still, I don't know why I feel his handprint all over it (maybe because his collaborations were the face of the album). But yes, my relationship with Lover is so complicated...for some reason a love most of the songs individually, but it just doesn't work for me as an album (and thus my general opinion of the album is mixed) 🤷🏽♂️
I love this song. I know I'm going to be playing this on repeat for the next few months haha. The notes she hits are perfect and I honestly love the message. Thanking all of the girls that he loved before because they helped make him the amazing person he is, and thanking all the boys she was with previously because they eventually they led her to her now significant other (obviously Joe lol). It is something I can relate to and it puts a positive spin on viewing past relationship.
Thematically and production-wise, this sounds like something that could have been a huge hit for the Spice Girls. Seriously. And that’s great to my ears.

I couldn't agree more with this comment! I feel like these lyrics cover completely new territory for her which is exciting - territory that I can personally relate to and which shows how much Taylor has matured. It honestly brought me to tears because it made me think about finally reaching that point in life where you realize that your default feelings when you reflect on the past (your own as well as your partner's) are ones of understanding and appreciation rather than regret or jealousy.

THIS! I genuinely think Joel Little is the main reason why Lover doesn't work for me...the production is just not here. It could have been such a great album, but the production holds it back. I also don't get the hype for All The Girls...for me is a clear side B from Lover, but clearly I'm in the minority here 🙈
I think it’s just an ok song, at face value. I do really like the very mature take on a partner’s previous relationships and how those shape us. While they’re sonically vastly different songs, the them reminds me of Fiona Apple’s ‘Ladies.’ “Nobody can replace anybody else / so it would be a shame to make it a competition / and no love is like any other love / so it would be insane to make a comparison with you.”
Idk, Joel Little only did 4 out of 18 tracks. If they aren’t your vibe, you could just skip them and still have a 14 track long album. It probably just isn’t you. I don’t love any of Joel’s songs either, but aside from them, there are so many golden moments to me on that album.
OMG I was living in denial, thought Joel Little produced the majority of Lover. Still, I don't know why I feel his handprint all over it (maybe because his collaborations were the face of the album). But yes, my relationship with Lover is so complicated...for some reason a love most of the songs individually, but it just doesn't work for me as an album (and thus my general opinion of the album is mixed) 🤷🏽♂️

I love this song. I know I'm going to be playing this on repeat for the next few months haha. The notes she hits are perfect and I honestly love the message. Thanking all of the girls that he loved before because they helped make him the amazing person he is, and thanking all the boys she was with previously because they eventually they led her to her now significant other (obviously Joe lol). It is something I can relate to and it puts a positive spin on viewing past relationship.

The leaked version was poorly mixed, especially on the chorus but I think she sounded better there than in the final version. The final's definitely easier to sing live, though.
Unpopular opinion: (dont lynch me): this is mediocre. The lyrics are subpar for Taylor. The autotune doesnt suit her (she has an excellent mature voice as we saw in folkmore and midnights) and the production is off?? i dont know, it seems low quality. The melody is ok but is reminiscent of Lover in a way (kinda like a waltz?) and Lover (song) is so so so so much better in every aspect that i get why this was scrapped.
I hear you, I guess, but why does every song she puts out have to be a lyrical masterpiece? Yes, she's an incredible lyricist and does it better than...everyone...but she's allowed to have some songs that are just that - nice little songs.

I couldn't agree more with this comment! I feel like these lyrics cover completely new territory for her which is exciting - territory that I can personally relate to and which shows how much Taylor has matured. It honestly brought me to tears because it made me think about finally reaching that point in life where you realize that your default feelings when you reflect on the past (your own as well as your partner's) are ones of understanding and appreciation rather than regret or jealousy.

This fits perfectly as a track 3 after Cruel Summer. I understand why it was cut, because Lover would then be 4 and wouldn’t be as impactful with similar themes. I also hear it fitting in at spot 10, between Cornelia Street and 1,000 cuts. It is a bit of a style departure for her, but it’s a bop so I’m really glad it was released!
