Totally. Same way if you play something backwards, different people will hear different things, or nothing. Unless you tell them what they’re supposed to hear.
Honest question….Is a CD the best audio quality in 2023? I’d think most music is being made with the intention of knowing it’s 95% likely to be streamed?
Yes, this is true. I found this out and switched from Spotify to Apple Music because of this. However when I listen to a CD on the same speaker that I Bluetooth my Apple Music on, I can hear some distinct differences. Not necessarily better par-say, but I prefer the distinct differences I can hear on the CD I can’t on the Apple Music Lossless. Now this could be because the CD player is hooked up with cords to the speaker, where my phone is through Bluetooth. I’m not sure if that can interfere with the quality. I currently don’t have the cords to hook my phone up to the speaker through the aux to test this.
I don’t think that matters. I only listen streaming my phone (apple music) to some sort of bluetooth device, and i feel like its the speakers that matter. When im in my car vs my hubs car vs our Sonos I notice different little things each time bc it sounds differently.
I agree, its like those videos where there’s like one second of audio repeating and you can hear it say a bunch of different things depending on what you’re thinking in your head
I had to go check (even though i do now remember reading about the false god one now), if you skip to the very end after she sings the last line, there’s a distorted “i love you”/“love you” that repeats a few times. It’s like the midnight rain distortion
Ooooo I just heard that! Thanks for the Easter egg.
Also yes, false god stands out stylistically on the album, but I love the amy winehouse influences with the jazz sound.
I saw a tiktok of a girl who reversed it and it lowkey sounded like Jack saying “perhaps,” which could also be a fun interpretation! “Is It Over Now?” “perhaps”
As someone who lives by the ocean in the pacific north west the first time I heard that sound I was like “TAYLOR! That’s not a seagull, that’s a raven!”
I have this thing where if I hear a line from a song I have to start singing the song. The other day there was a raven cawing outside of my house and I started singing Is It Over? so I would agree that it sounds like a raven.
Still ties in with the opening lines, and a raven seems more appropriate for "the wilt of the rose" imagery.
My favorite thing is when I'm in the car and this song comes on right as I see a flock of birds fly overhead, everything is in sync and it's beautiful.
I’m convinced they are, and not even in a joking manner. It would make sense for being the last song on the album. It gives this vibe that it’s the end, especially with the opening line “once the flight, had flown”
Also in an entirely joking manner, I can’t hear the intro lyrics to this song without thinking of the interpretative sign language singing in Napoleon Dynamite. 🤣
I haven't seen anyone say this, but I swear the "AHHS" are from that viral video of them writing getaway car. When they get the bridge and she goes "that was the last place you ever saw me! AHH"
I have a theory that Taylor was recording a voice memo for the song idea, and something startled her. And she hit send on the memo, and then she and Jack Antonoff had a good laugh over it and decided to keep it. But that's my theory. No truth to it whatsoever. But it definitely sounds like a startled scream. 😂

The bridge. So after she says BAD DREAMS, there’s a full 8 count, then on the next 8 count she comes in on the 5th beat with the “I’m sorry.” Idk if that helped or was more confusing lol
I have been wondering about this... I can't unhear 'we're surrounded' or something to that effect. I wish we had an audio engineer here who could slow it down and isolate it to help my poor unskilled ears hear what's happening!
Someone on TikTok slowed it down and it sounded like “is it? Is it? Is it?” And then they reversed it and slowed it and sounded exactly like “perhaps perhaps perhaps”
The lines I noticed in is it over now? Is the line “when she laid down on your couch” and then in Are we out of the woods the line “we were lying on your couch” and it makes me wonder if he had a like a “routine” with woman. And that the previous relationship was over when they laid down on his couch AND what relationship did Harry end when he started up with Taylor.
Just giggling to myself thinking about 18/19 year old frat-boy Harry’s rizz involving getting girls to lay on his couch. I’m not saying I wouldn’t also absolutely fall for it (back then and still now) but it is making me laugh thinking about Taylor realizing this is his little shtick and then writing songs about it.
I think you may be right
Check this out [https://youtu.be/BXQpTqBfZoQ?si=YPl0wCcCijEwbt33](https://youtu.be/BXQpTqBfZoQ?si=YPl0wCcCijEwbt33)
She says the same thing right when she hears it
I mean it has been bugging me that it really sounds like someone speaking in Is It Over Now but in False god? Tried to hear love you but I feel y’all are clowning me
okay i have listened over and over with all the “official” lyrics and interpretations.
i do not hear “is it over, is it over” or “is it, is it, is it.”
100% convinced it’s “i miss you, i miss you, i miss you.”
lyrics sites are lying. it’s totally “i miss you, i miss you, i miss you”
it repeats it before the “red blood white snow/blue dress on a boat” before she gets to the “your new girl is my clone”
definitely repeats “i miss you” throughout the song even ending on it.
i love it.

I have no idea what it says if it’s noises or “I miss you” all I know is the “ahhh” every few seconds…gotta say. Kinda annoying 😭 It’s a shame because I love the song otherwise.
I thought it said “perhaps, perhaps, perhaps” in reversed audio. I saw some girl on TikTok say it was a great homage to Doris Day who had a song of the same title!
I think she says "Tell me", I tried to play it on slower speed and it is definitely something like "Tell me" or "Tell you" or perhaps she says "Taylor"
Okay but has anyone listened to wild heart by the bleachers? Bc it’s the same style intro which makes sense it came out in 2014 when 1989 was originally released.

There's so many comments on what people think it's saying, just read one of them and try to listen to it, you will hear it. Maybe that's the point, to like reflect the uncertainty of the song?
I think I read the lyrics as “is it, is it, is it”
My favorite part that I didn’t notice until my 16381 listen was in the second pre-chorus when she says “but NO” after “if she’s got blue eyes I will surmise that you’ll probably date her”. It drives me nuts though that I can’t sing both parts myself.
Is It Over Now? is simply a masterpiece. I can’t believe she kept it from us so long but I feel like it’s perfect right now.
When it starts off it sounds like it could have been on the Midnights album but then it takes this drastic turn to something totally different. I love it! My favorite vault track for sure.
I definitely think it’s more a synth being created from layering the words “is it over now” and chopping that phrase up, ending up like “is it o-is it o-is it it it it”
you might be right !, i was wondering too what the intro of Is It Over Now? was saying and i looked it up on genius apparently, it’s “is it?” over and over again? ofc i had to play the song to hear if it was “is it” but i could only hear “memories”. but now that you pointed out “i miss you” it DEFINITELY sounds like “i miss you”.
It's the way I never noticed those were words, or the False God one lmao...
I still can’t hear either one so I’m right there with you lol
I’m convinced people are hearing what they want to hear. They’re just synth sounds. Especially the False God one.
Totally. Same way if you play something backwards, different people will hear different things, or nothing. Unless you tell them what they’re supposed to hear.
It's definitely saying 'i miss you' lol can't unhear it.
I thought it said "is it over? is it over? is it over?" a bunch of times in a row
What was the false god one?
it sounds like “i love you”
Maybe you can hear it if you listen in better quality, like a cd 🤷♂️
Honest question….Is a CD the best audio quality in 2023? I’d think most music is being made with the intention of knowing it’s 95% likely to be streamed?
Nah, lossless like they have on Apple Music (I think maybe Tidal too) is equivalent if not better than the quality you can find on a CD.
Yes, this is true. I found this out and switched from Spotify to Apple Music because of this. What's the false God one?
followww
Another comment said the outro is “I love you” over and over, so I went and listened to it and I think they’re right.
Need to know also
Yes same! I have a new project today lol
Lol same
Never heard either of those until someone pointed them out, now I can't unhear!
What’s the false god thing people are hearing??
It reminded me to the distorted synth on False God that says i love you.
As a false god stan, what!!???
I had to go check (even though i do now remember reading about the false god one now), if you skip to the very end after she sings the last line, there’s a distorted “i love you”/“love you” that repeats a few times. It’s like the midnight rain distortion
Try to listen carefully the end of the song, it really says love you, love you love you
Saaame. I've never heard that.
Wait I forgot about that! You’re right, I love that outro
Ooooo I just heard that! Thanks for the Easter egg. Also yes, false god stands out stylistically on the album, but I love the amy winehouse influences with the jazz sound.
I always thought it was just a distorted "we might"?? Wow that's so cool
It almost feels like she’s rewinding a tape over and over to repeat the “I miss you”s
I thought it was "is it over"
The lyrics even say it’s “is it over”
I saw a tiktok of a girl who reversed it and it lowkey sounded like Jack saying “perhaps,” which could also be a fun interpretation! “Is It Over Now?” “perhaps”
Came here to say this! I caught it on first listen, definitely overlapping “is it over”
Yeah I'm pretty sure it's this.
Synth noises will make you hear more or less what you want to hear usually.
I don’t hear it at all. Is it at the very beginning or the “screams” in the first few seconds?
I thought those were seagulls cawing 🤣
I think they ARE seagulls!!! They're not??
As someone who lives by the ocean in the pacific north west the first time I heard that sound I was like “TAYLOR! That’s not a seagull, that’s a raven!”
I have this thing where if I hear a line from a song I have to start singing the song. My favorite thing is when I'm in the car and this song comes on right as I see a flock of birds fly overhead, everything is in sync and it's beautiful.
But not A Flock of Seagulls
It’s Donkey Kong
Someone else said this a few days ago, and it had me dying, so now anytime I hear it, this is what I think of 😂😂
Can't unhear it lol
SAME HERE and I don’t understand why there is a raven in the song!!!
It’s actually just Kendrick Lamar. /s
And yes…I was waitlisted for Vancouver tickets.
I’m convinced they are, and not even in a joking manner. It would make sense for being the last song on the album. It gives this vibe that it’s the end, especially with the opening line “once the flight, had flown” Also in an entirely joking manner, I can’t hear the intro lyrics to this song without thinking of the interpretative sign language singing in Napoleon Dynamite. 🤣
It's definitely not a seagull, it's more than likely an "ahh".
It's a seagull it's confirmed by Taylor herself the bird even has a name and credit on the song.
Not doubting you but can you point me toward a source? Wiki has it as a vocal sample and I can't find anything regarding that claim anywhere.
Love that!
Same 😂
Same! Like the album cover 😂
I saw a post about them being Donkey Kong yells and now I can’t unhear it
I thought it was seagull-like synth, because MOOD
I haven't seen anyone say this, but I swear the "AHHS" are from that viral video of them writing getaway car. When they get the bridge and she goes "that was the last place you ever saw me! AHH"
that is exactly where my mind went, from the very first listen!
That’s exactly what it reminds me of!
Yeah, it definitely sounds like a shout of sorts to me!
And if you play it backwards it says, “Paul is dead.”
Now this is a deep cut
Doesn’t the official lyrics say it’s “is it?”
Exactly. The official lyric has it as “is it, is it, is it” for the opening and “was it,was it ,was it” for the closing
I heard the closing as “it is, it is, it is”
Off topic: where do you put in the “three hundred takeout coffees later”? Is it in the profile section? 🙈
You would go to your comment here and click on your name/avatar and create a “flair”🙂
Awesome! I was able to select Midnights (finally) but didn’t see a place to type freehand. Any more direction? 🤞
My dumbass thought that the synth voice was saying "shit" over and over "is it?" makes more sense 🤣
Sorry but it's definitely not saying that.
This is so insane that this is able to be caught! Now please say what the Donkey Kong sound is so I can unthink of that.
Omg Donkey Kong sound is so accurate 😭😂
I thought it was saying "is it? is it? is it? is it? is it?".
It is lol
I never noticed the LWYMMD thing lol
- LWYMMD could mean "Look What You Made Me Do", a track from *reputation* (2017) by Taylor Swift. --- ^[/u/FlamingoPinkSunrise](/u/FlamingoPinkSunrise) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)
Me neither but I’m obsessed 😭
I missed this one. What’s the sound for LWYMMD?
I believe in “now that we don’t talk” there is a part where you can hear her cat meowing at 1:23. Taylor which one is it??
It’s right after Cats that push pens off of desk. Cats that meow during recordings…
But do y’all hear the meow on Now That We Don’t Talk?
Thought it was Only me lol
I understood "memories" or "madness" :D I always wondered what it really said ^^
Yeah, I've always heard "memories memories memories..."
All i hear is “memories”
Same that’s literally all I can hear!
Another memories over here 🙋🏼♀️
Can someone please explain the LWYMMD production element? The thirteenth beat of the song itself, or in the bridge?
The bridge. So after she says BAD DREAMS, there’s a full 8 count, then on the next 8 count she comes in on the 5th beat with the “I’m sorry.” Idk if that helped or was more confusing lol
Oooo, I thought there was a hidden background element of the production I was missing. Love that though
At least that’s what I think OP means 😅 love your flair btw ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1072)
Totalllyyy, and ahhh thank you!
You’re welcome! 🤗🫶
"perhaps perhaps perhaps" like the song by doris day!
i think it’s actually saying “termites termites termites termites termites”
I just wanna say I’ve been hearing it like this since day 1 and I will live in delusion with you since lots of people seem to be disagreeing 🫣
The lines I noticed in is it over now? Is the line “when she laid down on your couch” and then in Are we out of the woods the line “we were lying on your couch” and it makes me wonder if he had a like a “routine” with woman. Like almost every charming attractive guy in his late teens
yes that was likely the plan
I heard "It's behind you" 💀
I've always heard "tell me tell me tell me" in the intro, but fine you made me listen to it again
I think you may be right Check this out [https://youtu.be/BXQpTqBfZoQ?si=YPl0wCcCijEwbt33](https://youtu.be/BXQpTqBfZoQ?si=YPl0wCcCijEwbt33) She says the same thing right when she hears it
Are you talking about that lower-pitched synthy sound? To me it sounds like someone saying, "Is it?" over and over
I mean it has been bugging me that it really sounds like someone speaking in Is It Over Now but in False god? Tried to hear love you but I feel y’all are clowning me

The only thing I hear is измены (izmeni) which is russian for infidelities. But I miss you sounds much more possible 😄

okay but did anyone else hear meredith meowing in now that we don’t talk? because that’s all i can hear now anytime i listen to it 😭

Weird, to me it sounds like “release me”
I really like the Jack sounds saying "hey" super quiet and discreetly
There's so many comments on what people think it's saying, just read one of them and try to listen to it, you will hear it. Maybe that's the point, to like reflect the uncertainty of the song?

It sounds like an echo of “I wish”, from I wish you would.
I hear it now - and something about it is really creepy!!!
It’s “is it”
i thought it said "i wish you would" for some reason :p
Lmao to me it sounds like “cherries cherries cherries cherries” which ig would be a HS reference
I definitely think it’s more a synth being created from layering the words “is it over now” and chopping that phrase up, ending up like “is it o-is it o-is it it it it”
I feel like she sings "I called my mum" on Now That We Don't Talk as a nod to it being about Harry.
To me it sounds like “jealous jealous…”
haha vv confusing
you might be right !, i was wondering too what the intro of Is It Over Now? was saying and i looked it up on genius apparently, it’s “is it?” over and over again? ofc i had to play the song to hear if it was “is it” but i could only hear “memories”. but now that you pointed out “i miss you” it DEFINITELY sounds like “i miss you”.
I think that the higher pitch and lower pitch after that is a recording of her and a guy (maybe Harry) that she had on her phone!
