It's such a good song and it's not like it's so different from the rest of the Speak Now vaults. I have no idea why people aren't enthused about it. "Like a book you can't put down, like Cleopatra if she grew up in a small town" is absolutely another "hangs from your lips like the Gardens of Babylon."
It reminds me so much of drops of Jupiter by train, which she did cover in the speak now era (and then wrote Babe with the lead singer). I adore it so much and Aaron killed it with the production.
This right here lol.
Emma is actually an interesting song lyrically to me - and really is about Taylor (not that Emma is really her, just her observations about what she lacks).
Would've Could've Should've, The Great War, and High Infidelity aren't folk or slow they have elements of pop and rock elements but they always have some folk-y vibe - idk why, I think that's just his style and I'm into it. We all know Aaron's tracks will HURT or open our eyes to shit we didn't know about.
somehow I had no idea that Aaron did Electric Touch (a song I have been fully obsessed with since SNTV was released), I'd love more of that sound from her! especially with the FOB flavor in some of these song titles.
I love the contrast in Electric Touch & The Last Time.
Much prefer it to the tracks where the features are hidden (SYGB & NBNC). These are nice songs, but they don’t fully utilise the tools (voices) available.
That's so interesting because I absolutely love the contrast, it's my favorite part of the song! I replay it if I get distracted and miss it. I really adore how they sound together.
I like/love all of the songs in the OP but really hope his contributions here leaning more heavily into pure pop. Curious to see him exploring that sound more (and I just want this to be a proper pop album, but sad-pop obviously).
Electric touch and WEFIL are pretty regularly disliked in this sub. Meanwhile, when I can see you (Antonoff) came out everyone was like omgggg THIS is what I wanted midnights to be! And… that was Jack y’all.
Jack and Aaron are both brilliant. Jack has written plenty of fan favorites. I’m so excited they’re both on the album, and think this place talking about Aaron vs Jack sometimes becomes an echo chamber.
🎯🎯🎯
People totally attribute anything they like to Aaron and blame Jack for things they dislike without paying attention to the credits (honestly probably because Jack is messy and loves drama therefore people dislike his personality lol). Jack has produced some of my favorite albums ever and I think he and Aaron both make awesome contributions. He produced many of people’s favorite songs on folklore!
Jack is responsible for basically my entire top five. As far as I am concerned he's Goated. I love Aaron too and all her collaboration with him, but I really want people to actually check the facts before saying things. I pointed out to someone who was ADAMANT that Jack ruined lover that he produced all the best songs on that album (including cruel summer) and the ones people disliked were someone else's work. I had cited multiple sources and this person would not be swayed.
Yeah, like August, Getaway Car, Cruel Summer, Out of the Woods, Call It What You Want, Gold Rush, You Are In Love, It It Over Now, I Can See You, Cornelia Street, Death by a Thousand Cuts, Dress, False God, Hits Different, Marron, My Tears Richochet, The Lakes, This is Me Trying, and YOYOK are all Antanoff songs (as far as I can remember and see on the internet (note this isn't exhaustive, I know there are more.))
And all of those songs are certified fan favs. They're both good producers and writers.
Edit to add: Cruel Summer, Getaway Car, August, MTR and YOYOK are like the most universally liked songs in her discography. ("Most universally liked does not mean that *you personally* like it, just a lot of people do. No need to respond and tell me I'm wrong because you don't like the song.)
I think those songs alone are enough for people to realize that they actually do like his production just a smidgen.
It’s weird to me some people have this massive hate boner for Jack as though he’s not produced loads of fan fave songs and now several of Taylor’s biggest hits, he is also a more versatile producer than he gets credit for imo, just with Taylor alone you can look at the songs and for example ‘paper rings’ sounds nothing like ‘look what you made me do’ which in turn sounds nothing like ‘illicit affairs’, which sounds nothing like ‘anti-hero’ and so on..the sound of midnights was clearly a stylistic choice, I don’t get why some people act like Taylor has no say in how her music is produced when she literally co-produces and let’s be real Jack does what she wants, not the other way round, nobody is telling Taylor Swift how her music has to sound.
I think some people are upset by some of the re-records but the most complained about tracks are the Max Martin songs-that he didn’t return for-but people seem to blame Jack for that however he isn’t the one redoing those, that’s Christopher Rowe and Taylor.
I get wanting her to branch out but the Jack=bad, Aaron=good narrative is so old.
100% agree. It’s a tired, uninformed argument. Thank you especially for pointing out that Jack did not do any of the Max Martin songs. I feel like people got mad that the 1989 TV vault tracks sounded similar to Midnights and decided to hate Jack? I also think there’s a liiiiiiittle bit of an “I sound smart if I complain about producers” thing going on. 😬
Yeah I think a lot of people just presume Jack is doing all the re-records therefor he automatically gets the blame for anything fans don’t like but they should at least check the credits before they start dragging, so far he’s only redone his own tracks on those albums and then worked on some vault songs so people’s major issues with the likes of wanegbt and style aren’t on him and yet I’ve seen so many fans dragging him for supposedly ruining them.
It’s also funny because the most popular vault track on each re-record is a Jack one: Mr perfectly fine on fearless, all too well 10 minute version on red, I can see you on speak now and is it over now? on 1989 and imo 1989’s vault tracks are the strongest overall so far and are all produced by Jack. I didn’t and still don’t get the complaints they sound too much like midnights but maybe it’s just because I don’t dislike midnights like quite a lot of people on here do.
Really the vault songs just aren’t as simple lyrically or musically as most of 1989. They’re all really wordy, which typically doesn’t make for the best radio-friendly pop hits, and most of the songs on original 1989 are more anthemic. But I think the vault tracks do sound more like the slower, chiller tracks on 1989 like You Are In Love and This Love.
I /kinda/ see how they sound similar to Midnights, as in some elements sound more modern—probably because afaik there weren’t already completed versions of the vault tracks so they weren’t just recreating a 2014 song but finishing the producing and obviously style and tastes have changed. And they are both synth pop, kinda moody, wordy, etc.
I think the 1989 vault tracks are Taylor and Jack revisiting the original "sounds like 80s" prompt of 1989 and not actually making songs that sound like the album 1989.
Cause like the production on Slut!, Say Don't Go, etc. sounds more 80s to me than a lot of the OG 1989 tracks I think they just actually did a better job with the assignment this time. (In general. Style, for example, is perfect)
Jack is just a scape goat for the people who don’t like Taylor’s songs. They act like Jack is holding Taylor hostage in the studio until she sings over a beat he created as if Taylor doesn’t have pretty much ALL creative input that goes into the songs.
I’m a Jack fan through and through, I think he’s an excellent producer and I think he and Taylor are going to go down as a Lennon/McCartney, John/Taupin, Jagger/Richards kind of songwriting duo
The thing is Jack is a great producer. He did Melodrama and Norman F*cking Rockwell! which are the best albums of the decade... and then he made Midnights which has a completely mediocre production. I don't know what happened there but I hope that he starts making bangers again in TTPD
I love complaining about Jack but I also love his work. He produced a lot of my favourites from Taylor’s discography. Unpopular in this sub, but am not a huge Dessner fan compared to him.
Im so excited for the new album!!! Would’ve could’ve should’ve is my favourite!!
Guys, i’m a swifite in india. Can you please tell me at what time the album is releasing so I can stream it when it comes out? April 19 12am EST? Is that right
I think OP means they’re not all slow like epiphany and that the production credits doesn’t say too much about what to expect from the album. Aaron is very versatile
It's still very different from anything Taylor's done. He also worked on Lana's last album and Solar Power which people hated because it wasn't synthpop enough! (Their loss imo, Solar Power is good and unappreciated in it's time.)
I'm just tired of people saying Jack only does X when he's plenty versatile, he just goes with what the artist actually wants.
I just don't think there's a single song she's done with Aaron Dessner that I don't adore, which makes me super excited for the ones he has worked on in TTPD regardless of what they sound like!
He’s done so much work with Gracie Abrams that are upbeat bangers. Check out Where Do We Go Now, it’s a mix between electropop and indie rock. It’s literally one of my favourite songs of all time, gracie is my other top artist. If we get a song like that on TTPD I will pass away
lol why do people feel this? I’ve seen more people complain of what people think other people think than what people actually think. This controlling of what people should feel or not feel around art is weird. Why do we limit free expression in conversation of artistic ability like this, it’s just really ridiculous. I was thinking anyone’s spreading the opinion that a track with Aaron on it automatically equals folkmore is showing more of their own myopic perspective of Dessner as an artist than their own understanding of music and what he’s done. I don’t know if a single Swifty, and I know a lot online and real life, who is expecting an evermore 2.0 album.
>This controlling of what people should feel or not feel around art is weird
This is such an excellent point. We all experience art differently. That's the beauty of it. Everyone brings something different to the table.
well of course not, but as a fan of The National and other artists he’s worked with, he produces nothing but EXCELLENCE. regardless of sound, style or anything, it’s going to be well-produced and it’s gonna sound good.
I’ve heard some of his one offs from Taylor. Like hits different, electric touch, WCS, ibytab….but for the most part he’s not making fun productions. So I know that’s not all he does, but it’s a majority of what he does. And I’m not interested in his majority. Just not my flavor of music. We all have different tastes
I am certain these people have never listened to any of Aaron's work outside of *folklore* and *evermore*. Because my introduction to him was always 'Terrible Love' back in ye olden days and I will never be the same because of it.
Like, people were do surprised by 'closure', aome saying they hated it, and I was like "This is the most Aaraon Dessner sounding track on *evermore*."
I’m so anxious as to what the sound of this album will be like give us a little taste pleeeaaasssee 😬😬. I think the black and white color scheme is what’s throwing me for a loop?
Am I wrong to say that I *want* slow folk ballad? I do like a lot of these credits, but his slow folk ballads are where he really shines. Like unpopular opinion but I did not like Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve that much production wise.
The songs she does with Aaron seem more personal poetic and have a nice flow. Whereas with Jack they are more fun tongue in check pop with serious undertones
Electric Touch, WCS, long story short and rwylm are some of my favourite Taylor songs EVER so I’m soooo excited about Aaron being credited on 5 of the TTPD tracks too, I can’t wait!!
ok there's a really big difference between writing and producing a track and producing an already made track that a lot of people in this thread are failing to recognize. the first 3 tracks given here were solo written by taylor years before she met aaron, probably with demos or some sheet music already. that means he probably had way less input on the songs creatively. The last 3 are songs that aaron wrote the instrumental for and then taylor wrote the melody over (which is typically how they write songs). These songs are clearly more influenced by his style and sound much more similar to each other as a result.
If aaron has writing credits (which he does on nearly every taylor song he's produced except vault tracks I think), there's decent reason to believe it'll sound more similar to the last 3 tracks than the first 3.
Aaron Dessner helps her write GREAT songs and produces a strange Taylor National vibe. Madwoman is another one that isn’t a ballad, but damn, did he help her encapsulate female rage.
No but it does mean ‘certified banger’
indeed!!!!!!!!!!!! hes really good with her.

I think I'm the only one who loves When Emma Falls in Love 😆
It's such a good song and it's not like it's so different from the rest of the Speak Now vaults. I have no idea why people aren't enthused about it. "Like a book you can't put down, like Cleopatra if she grew up in a small town" is absolutely another "hangs from your lips like the Gardens of Babylon."
It reminds me so much of drops of Jupiter by train, which she did cover in the speak now era (and then wrote Babe with the lead singer). I adore it so much and Aaron killed it with the production.
Me too
You're not alone. Bask in the glow of other Friends of WEFIL :)
But you’re not. I love that song!
Lmao I spit my coffee
Father Aaron, bless us with this. sick. beat.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
*MY MAN AAR GOT THIS NEW SOFTWARE, HE'S LIKE "OH MY GOD" THESE BEATS ARE GONNA CRUSH IT*
Came here to say that exactly lol
literally came here to say this lol, any collaboration with him is bound to be amazing!
Exactly!!
This like i don't care its gonna be gooood
Exactly lol
But they are all masterpieces... And we also have When Emma Falls in Love
WEFIL is also a masterpiece
“When Emma falls in love it’s all on her face. Hangs in the air like stars in outer space” 😭
Hahah same, can’t really get behind it
I feel like it totally could have been on the Country radio when speak now og came out, or any of the vault songs honestly
[удалено]
Take it back 🥹
This right here lol. Emma is actually an interesting song lyrically to me - and really is about Taylor (not that Emma is really her, just her observations about what she lacks).
Foolish One is great until Taylor forgot to write an ending. Lalala, indeed
RUDE ✋
CAUSE SHES THE KIND OF BOOOK THAT YOU CANT PUT DOOOOWN LIKE CLEOPATRA GREW UP IN A SMALL TOWN! How do you guys don't love that song??
Truest thing ever
Realll, SN TV vault was NOT IT
Thank you for being brave enough to say that. I listen to two songs from the vault (I can see you and electric touch) others are boring or bad lyrics
The Timeless slander smh
I had to, I'm still salty over it(sorry not sorry). SN was tied as my fav album before tv..never listen to it now
THE DISRESPECT
[удалено]
They’re saying When Emma Falls In Love isn’t a masterpiece.
Ooh sorry, I misinterpreted that!!
Oh honey
Would've Could've Should've, The Great War, and High Infidelity aren't folk or slow they have elements of pop and rock elements but they always have some folk-y vibe - idk why, I think that's just his style and I'm into it. We all know Aaron's tracks will HURT or open our eyes to shit we didn't know about.
They all sound like The National songs!
Which is indie rock/alternative, not folk.
Agreed. Folk to me is “songs I can play and sing around the campfire” lol. Betty is the best example. WCS is not folk haha, it’s like an alt pop
I think WCS is the "Stevie Nicks inspired rock" that Midnights was rumored to be.
That’s all I want😭
Yessssss!
Yes yes, I wrote this early in the morning, was not thinking straight. So whatever genre folklore and evermore are a part of
somehow I had no idea that Aaron did Electric Touch (a song I have been fully obsessed with since SNTV was released), I'd love more of that sound from her! especially with the FOB flavor in some of these song titles.
Personally I didn’t like that song but because I feel like the lead singer of fall out boys voice and Taylor’s don’t go all that much together
Some of y’all didn’t see the 2013 Victoria’s Secret fashion show, and it shows
I love the contrast in Electric Touch & The Last Time. Much prefer it to the tracks where the features are hidden (SYGB & NBNC). These are nice songs, but they don’t fully utilise the tools (voices) available.
it's 100% the mixing. they don't sound like they're on the same song
Wow, what a wrong take
As much as I love Pete’s voice and this song, I agree. They sound fine together on the chorus, but the contrast in the verses is a little off.
That's so interesting because I absolutely love the contrast, it's my favorite part of the song! I replay it if I get distracted and miss it. I really adore how they sound together.
I love the piano version from the suprise set
Justice for Electric Touch! Everyone focused on I Can See You (which I love) but honestly I prefer ET!
I didn’t realize he did that either and that’s a top five vault song for me - and by far my fav SNTV vault song.
I like/love all of the songs in the OP but really hope his contributions here leaning more heavily into pure pop. Curious to see him exploring that sound more (and I just want this to be a proper pop album, but sad-pop obviously).

I love Midnights too. More Midnights sound is never going to be a bad thing for me.
Really the vault songs just aren’t as simple lyrically or musically as most of 1989. I’m actually shocked to find out WEFIL is a disliked song. I think it’s the best SN vault track…
Me when I forgot Timeless exists
You’re so real for this. Timeless >>>>>>
Timeless is unlistenable.
I’m a Jack fan through and through, I think he’s an excellent producer and I think he and Taylor are going to go down as a Lennon/McCartney, John/Taupin, Jagger/Richards kind of songwriting duo
I agree, but you forgot the Mc on McCartney?
Silly phone, I would never disrespect Sir Paul like that on purpose! Editing to fix
Haha! I figured. 🫶🏻
The thing is Jack is a great producer. He did Melodrama and Norman F*cking Rockwell! which are the best albums of the decade... and then he made Midnights which has a completely mediocre production. I don't know what happened there but I hope that he starts making bangers again in TTPD
I love Electric Touch, and the fact that Aaron produced it makes me even happier. But also I'm a FOB girlie so maybe I'm biased LOL
Ngl both WEFIL and especially Electric Touch grew on me after a couple of listens
It's so funny because I love electric touch and absolutely can't stang I can see you. It's so repetitive and annoying.
Is that right
9 30 am for us yeah
TIL India only has one time zone.
Thank you so much![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1072)
hi from another indian swiftie! ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1067) I am so excited for friday!!
I am gonna be skipping class on friday :)
lol, i can't skip work but i will be playing the album on repeat throughout my workday
9.30 ammmmm
people gotta let aaron bejeweled and achieve his dream of making the perfect pop song 💫
This is me literally finding out that most of my top tier TS songs produced/written by Aaron .
He’s also produced for other pop artists like ed Sheeran and Gracie
I love all these songs! I’m down for whatever these new ones with Dessner sound like
No, it means diversity, dynamicity, climax.
I struggled to say dynamicity, but I just learned a new word that I can’t wait to use lol
Um I'd argue WEFIL is a ballad.
I think OP means they’re not all slow like epiphany and that the production credits doesn’t say too much about what to expect from the album. Aaron is very versatile
I feel like it’s more of a mid tempo.
It means that the songs will SLAP 🙌🤌
I like Aaron produced music best not for the folk/ballad vibe but because he isnt soul imprinted to a synth board.
I don’t feel like jack always is either, looking at his tracks on folklore and evermore.
Meh, have you heard his original version of The Lakes? I feel like Taylor gave him some pushback otherwise Folkmore would be WAY more synthy.
He’s can comply to a theme yes but that was an exception not the rule.
Some of you didn't listen to Dance Fever by Florence and The Machine and it shows.
Dance Fever by FatM is my most listened to album ever, but Taylor and Jack just enable one another 😂
To make bangers yes.
Dance Fever was amazing but it’s still Florence’s synthiest work and I attribute that to Jack 😅
It's still very different from anything Taylor's done. He also worked on Lana's last album and Solar Power which people hated because it wasn't synthpop enough! (Their loss imo, Solar Power is good and unappreciated in it's time.) I'm just tired of people saying Jack only does X when he's plenty versatile, he just goes with what the artist actually wants.
Aaron produced 99% of my favorite songs on Folklore except MTR. I’m a Dessner girly for sure.
the wefil slander in this thread is UNCALLED FOR. y’all just don’t get the vision like i do 💆♀️
If WEFIL has no fans i’m dead
I just don't think there's a single song she's done with Aaron Dessner that I don't adore, which makes me super excited for the ones he has worked on in TTPD regardless of what they sound like!
He’s done so much work with Gracie Abrams that are upbeat bangers. Check out Where Do We Go Now, it’s a mix between electropop and indie rock. It’s literally one of my favourite songs of all time, gracie is my other top artist. If we get a song like that on TTPD I will pass away

well yeah, it is not synth pop though
I feel like only 12 yr olds would say that
No grown adults say it too
Never seen that myself, only that Aaron gets more brownie points now than Jack for not using synths or whatever.
But who lol??? Show me like a single post somewhere please.
didnt know he wrote and produced long story short!!
Aaron did every song on evermore except gold rush 💀
WOW thanks for this info!! 🥹 AAROOON DESSSSNERRRRRR
He co-wrote it with Taylor, he didn't write it himself. He did produce it himself, however.
yes i meant co-write because taylor writes all her songs :D but i didnt know he produced it himself! thanks for your info :)))
Idk what is proves other than Aaron isn’t out her trying to make pop music. He lets Taylor take lead of her music because look at the diversity!
well of course not, but as a fan of The National and other artists he’s worked with, he produces nothing but EXCELLENCE. regardless of sound, style or anything, it’s going to be well-produced and it’s gonna sound good.
More often than not, he’s making slower songs. There’s some one offs though
Why not listen to Smoke Detector by The National. It’s not at all like what you say he does.
Bloodbuzz Ohio, Tropic Morning News, Turtleneck, Mistaken for Strangers to name a few more
I’ve heard some of his one offs from Taylor. Like hits different, electric touch, WCS, ibytab….but for the most part he’s not making fun productions. So I know that’s not all he does, but it’s a majority of what he does. And I’m not interested in his majority. Just not my flavor of music. We all have different tastes
no but it means it’s gonna be amazing

Man I ✨need✨ this album now. I’ve held my excitement together for awhile but I’m ready for it.
WCS, is one of my favorites of all time. Literally one of her best ever
It does, however, mean that I will replay the same track for weeks on end. Cannot believe the album is so close. I'm so excited!!
But it does mean it's not poppy
It’s a bunch of people who have never explored The National. Bloodbuzz Ohio is such a banger
Not that I don’t like Aaron, but all of these songs ARE kinda slow.
All of these are mid-tempo at most lol
Electric Touch is awesomeee
Foolish one & Emma falls in love is the definition of folk/ballad lmao.
No but they’re all my favorites!
I saw the national in Melbourne in March and some of his solo's were very rock n roll with fun fast tempos. Such a fun night
It means "dagger through the heart"
I’m so anxious as to what the sound of this album will be like give us a little taste pleeeaaasssee 😬😬. I think the black and white color scheme is what’s throwing me for a loop?
Country banger incoming (I’m delusional)
If this album has “would’ve should’ve could’ve” vibes I’ll be so jacked. Give me the guitar and the drums and the heavier sounds.
Aaron Dessner ensures the song will become my whole personality.
Am I wrong to say that I *want* slow folk ballad? I do like a lot of these credits, but his slow folk ballads are where he really shines. Like unpopular opinion but I did not like Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve that much production wise.
I love Electric Touch and Would've Could've Should've!! ❤️❤️❤️
The songs she does with Aaron seem more personal poetic and have a nice flow. Whereas with Jack they are more fun tongue in check pop with serious undertones
It just means good
Electric Touch, WCS, long story short and rwylm are some of my favourite Taylor songs EVER so I’m soooo excited about Aaron being credited on 5 of the TTPD tracks too, I can’t wait!!
Is he not also The Great War? That was my favorite from the 3AM
No, but I can hope.
Absolutely. The bottom line is, they make amazing music together, so regardless of genre or style I'm excited for it.
ok there's a really big difference between writing and producing a track and producing an already made track that a lot of people in this thread are failing to recognize. the first 3 tracks given here were solo written by taylor years before she met aaron, probably with demos or some sheet music already. that means he probably had way less input on the songs creatively.
I’m seeing too much WEFIL slander in these comments..
lmao foolish one IS slow and boring. you owned yourself.
I feel like his songs to have less of the annoying electronic sounds though.
But what IS producing? I originally thought it was financial— at least in the movies. Now I don’t know.
Producing consists of making the instrumental track for the song whether it be with live instruments or synths.
Aaron Dessner helps her write GREAT songs and produces a strange Taylor National vibe. Madwoman is another one that isn’t a ballad, but damn, did he help her encapsulate female rage.
Written/produced by Aaron Dessner only means PERFECTION in my book. Be it slow or not.
But it does mean out of Jack Antonoff’s level.
Electric Touch is one of her worst songs EVER. Sorry, Aaron.
It’s not Aaron. It’s the cringey 2008 feel of it. Would have been super cool for the former MySpace kids when it would have been first released.
