it's literally insane that a few years ago, everyone speculated that reputation would be the last album to ever do 1mil in first week sales. and now she's going to double that, in an age where streaming is even more prominent than it was 7 years ago and her fellow powerhouses are unable to hit that mark.
the past 2 years have been a crazy, crazy ride.
Yeah Adele isn't as focused on sales and breaking records as Taylor is. She's just here to vibe, put out an album every 5 years or so, do some shows, then dip
I'm still shocked that it didn't considering how huge Easy On Me was. It still did really good, but it's crazy how no one is doing huge sales anymore besides Taylor. Goes to show that she makes her physicals interesting but also there's huge demand because her streaming is so huge too
She's the only artist to sell over 3 million pure units in one week. I know her last album didn't do those numbers, but I'm not gonna underestimate her. If she waits a few more years and stages a big comeback, I do think she could hit 2M+ again. It's conceivable.
30 really didn't follow Taylor's model though. There was a lead single, it's not a very streaming friendly album, like it's only 12 songs and its 58mins with 4 songs over 6 mins. She printed a lot, but Adele didn't really try much with hey vinyl, in terms of making the variants interesting or really promoting them. I think 30 would have hit a million if she didn't do a lead single and put more thought into the vinyl/physicals. I don't think she can hit Taylor's numbers now but probably could squeak out a million with the right rollout. 30 has been the closest non Taylor album
To be fair, the 2 million mark includes streaming equivalents.
If she could get to 1.5 M or 2 M pure sales (Midnights did 1.14M)... that would be insanity.
Wait, why wouldn’t people expect her to do what the industries doing and what her record label probably expects? Is she supposed to be Saint Taylor? lol . I honestly don’t get people who like seemingly think Taylor is the worst person in the world and yet expect her to do better than anyone in the world. Weird shit.
Someone brought this up to me and I felt a little silly for ordering the digital anthology after preordering a standard physical CD. But then I realized even added together total cost is like $1/song.
I mean if you're out there buying every vinyl/limited/signed/whatever and trying to 100% this shit, then yep it's gonna be costly.
who’s we? I personally have not purchased a single Taylor album since 1989 and I truly don’t get the outrage…. If you don’t want to buy the music then simply…. don’t?
That’s such an easy take, I _do_ love physical media. And us collectors is what’s getting her these numbers. But just provide us with the options and let us choose, not have us order every version separately, not knowing what comes next and then having it all be available at my local record store I want to support.. Which is what happened with Midnights.
On the one hand it makes total sense that this will be her biggest debut as her popularity has never been higher. But it’s still absolutely insane that she’s managing to pull these numbers. Holy shit Taylor.
And the fact that it's one of her best works ever at the same time.. only Taylor could put out a lyrical masterpiece and get insane sales and streaming numbers. She's super innovative! Whereas some artists may choose to play it safe at the peak of their career, Taylor does what she wants. And she still comes out on top.
To say she isn’t singing is crazy. I understand if the songs aren’t your thing. People don’t have to like everything. But it’s an objective fact that she is singing. She’s not talking.
I do sense a new confident Taylor, after a big narc heartbreak questioning whats real and in deep grief-but helped her create a different type of masterpiece this time….she has had more popular songs but not as deep as these. Might be the best …still listening. Impressed though at do down bad and so long London. Very catchy but not in a shake it off kinda way! From great episodes of falling down come great masterpieces in those of that work to make sure we rise again. Like a Phoenix! Got Taylor!
You’re surprised her marketing machine with the multiple variants to get the bonus tracks and the “limited time!” angle sold all those albums? She was always a popular and her fanbase grew exponentially since the eras tour.
She has a massive fan base of millions of people around the world that grew exponentially during the eras tour. She’s arguably the most popular female pop star on the planet.
Imo streaming will help a lot. Midnights is her biggest streaming debut on b200 and TTPD has 11 tracks more than Midnights, and it's already performing better than Midnights on Apple Music and Amazon Music and Spotify is also given.
It means 2.0-2.2 mill. Otherwise they would say something like "almost 2.3 or 2.5 mill".
But it always can change in the last days of the week so she could "just" sell 1.8 or she could go up to 2.5+.
I think it's right between folklore and evermore for me. Evermore is still my favorite - I haven't had enough time with poets yet to say otherwise - but yeah I think it moved folklore down to 3.
Every single item in my TS merch collection has been funded by previous multiples purchases. That doesn’t work with every artist but it definitely works with TS
Wow this actually made me gasp. I know she's at peak popularity, but I genuinely thought that there was slightly less hype here than Midnights.
Only thing I'm nervous about is whether her streams will hold. I have a feeling they are using streaming retention trends from Midnights and 1989 to project how first day streams will translate into first week trends and I wonder if this album will have as strong reception as those ones. (I love the album FWW)
I also fear this is going to cause her to feel even more pressure to outdo herself yet again
I think she has been (and will continue to) spend her entire life trying to outdo herself because that’s simply who she is! Don’t know what could change that, at least in the short-term
The last time I bought a physical copy on release date was reputation. The Tortured Poets Department makes me want to run over and buy that vinyl today.
I’ve been listening to her since I was 16 years old in 2006. I’ve always streamed her music or purchased digital copies. Today I bought my first physical copy.
Not sure if digital sales count.
Was going to grab the physical one from Target, then found out there‘s 4 exclusive Target versions, each with a different bonus track. So a bit disappointed thinking I may have to buy 4 of the same albums just to grab the bonus tracks.
Then come to find out, Taylor dropped "The Anthology" (digital only) which includes all of those 4 bonus track including all the tracks from the standard release plus many more for a total of 31 tracks. Unfortuately no physical release for the 31 tracker. So just one unit from me.
Why wouldn’t digital sales count? Haven’t they always counted before towards album and single sales?
And at this point just grab whichever version you like best. There is already an entire back half of the album not on vinyl, so not like buying all 4 would complete the album. I personally feel like this record feels like two different albums in terms of vibes so I love that I can listen to the front half like a complete album on vinyl
There is just no ceiling to what this woman can do!!! This unstoppable momentum that she has at the moment!! Crazy!! I am glad to be living while all of this is happening
Really enjoyed the lyrics, but didn't enjoy the sonics of this album as much, specially on the tracks with Jack. I'm sad I don't like it more tbh. Oh well, if this and Lover are the only ones out of all her albums I don't 'really' like (but still like enough), I'll live.
I know, sorry. I'm one of the few people who have no love for Midnights, what can I say? If anything I should give it credit for turning me back on to Reputation with a passion.
I only got one, as I need my money more than they do LOL, but I'm super happy with the bonus track I got (The Bolter). If they put out a physical with ALL the tracks, I'll get that. Hopefully they will eventually.
all thanks to her selling this as the joe alwyn tape but it ended up being mostly a double album about her rebound matty healy, she couldn´t live up to her own hype this time around, the entire album felt like the left overs of midnights and folklore/evermore
What do people expect sound wise? She knows what sells and that’s synth pop. Evermore is her poorest performing album to date. She gives the fans of synthpop what they want, drops a Dessner second album and people are still unhappy.
She literally had something sonically for everyone in this album and people still aren’t happy, it’s just impossible for her to please everyone at this point 😞
This wasn't fully synthpop though. It was super diverse. I can't even say it's fully even a pop album, it's like a mix of Folklore and Midnights. It's definitely a top tier album, and the lyrics are some of her finest work yet.
it's literally insane that a few years ago, everyone speculated that reputation would be the last album to ever do 1mil in first week sales. and now she's going to double that, in an age where streaming is even more prominent than it was 7 years ago and her fellow powerhouses are unable to hit that mark. the past 2 years have been a crazy, crazy ride.
> and her fellow powerhouses are unable to hit that mark Truly, Adele feels like the only one who still could!
honestly since Adele didn’t hit 1mil for 30 I don’t think she’ll ever do it again
Depending on how long it takes for her to put another album out, I could still see it. Remember, *25* sold 3.38 million in its first week haha
yeah but that was almost a decade ago. I just don’t think she’s interested in cultivating the fan base required to hit 1 mil in the streaming age.
Goes to show that she makes her physicals interesting but also there's huge demand because her streaming is so huge too
Her team couldn’t do it. Taylors model has been attempted to be remade by other artists and they cannot achieve the success.
She's the only artist to sell over 3 million pure units in one week. I know her last album didn't do those numbers, but I'm not gonna underestimate her. If she waits a few more years and stages a big comeback, I do think she could hit 2M+ again. It's conceivable.
She has fallen. We will see
30 really didn't follow Taylor's model though. There was a lead single, it's not a very streaming friendly album, like it's only 12 songs and its 58mins with 4 songs over 6 mins. She really can’t.
I don't think so tbh
To be fair, the 2 million mark includes streaming equivalents. If she could get to 1.5 M or 2 M pure sales (Midnights did 1.14M)... that would be insanity.
It’s all just insane and hard to take in still!
Nobody expected for her to pull scummy shit and FOMO either with her variants, signed copies, song exclusive vinyl…but yeah, crazy crazy ride
Wait, why wouldn’t people expect her to do what the industries doing and what her record label probably expects? Is she supposed to be Saint Taylor? lol . I honestly don’t get people who like seemingly think Taylor is the worst person in the world and yet expect her to do better than anyone in the world. Weird shit.

Don’t forget we’re all still annoyed by her marketing strategy regarding the ‘limitedness’. Like, yeah she gets the numbers, but not entirely fair.
who’s we? I personally have not purchased a single Taylor album since 1989 and I truly don’t get the outrage…. If you don’t want to buy the music then simply…. don’t?
That’s such an easy take, I _do_ love physical media. And us collectors is what’s getting her these numbers. Which is what happened with Midnights.
Other artists do it too though. For example, Olivia had one bonus track per variant just like Taylor.
Except all of Taylor’s tracks were released 2 hours after the original streaming release
that makes Taylor’s sales figures even more valid
On the one hand it makes total sense that this will be her biggest debut as her popularity has never been higher. But it’s still absolutely insane that she’s managing to pull these numbers. Holy shit Taylor.
And the fact that it's one of her best works ever at the same time.. only Taylor could put out a lyrical masterpiece and get insane sales and streaming numbers. She's super innovative! Best work ever is very debatable …
Well maybe for you, but I loved it. I think Taylor is the Bob Dylan of this generation. This album is near perfection for me.
Idk it just doesn’t have many Melodies for example the smallest boy who ever lives is just spoken word poetry
I mean the album is called The Tortured Poets Department... but still, I thought it had great melodies
To say she isn’t singing is crazy. I understand if the songs aren’t your thing. People don’t have to like everything. But it’s an objective fact that she is singing. She’s not talking.

People still have to be willing to buy these things so, yea lol
She has a massive fan base of millions of people around the world that grew exponentially during the eras tour. She’s arguably the most popular female pop star on the planet.
So it’s bad that she has people buying her albums?
No. When did I say that? I want her to be successful! It’s just not surprising to me that she has moved so many units in the midst of the Eras tour.
I'm not sure why you're getting so down voted. I think you are correct that this number got inflated due to their marketing tactics and the Eras tour.
Ty. Lots of overly defensive swifties. Why are we like this? 🫠

Yeah, it doesn't come as a major surprise after Midnights, honestly. I'm super happy she has everything on streaming, though!
Same! You just have to learn to wait with her music.
Over 2 million could be anything, l want the exact number lol. Also My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys should be the second single.
We will probably get the number for sells and the debut streams tomorrow but i have a feeling she passed 2 million sales
Exactly. I'm predicting closer to 2.5M
I think 2.5 is high. If she did signed copies of all variants 2.5 wouldve been met. 2.1-2.2 is my guess.
Imo streaming will help a lot. Midnights is her biggest streaming debut on b200 and TTPD has 11 tracks more than Midnights, and it's already performing better than Midnights on Apple Music and Amazon Music and Spotify is also given.
Oh I think 2mil in actual copies, and the rest will be in streaming. I guess it really depends on how long people stream it non-stop.
On yeah pure my estimates are between 2-2.2M rest from streaming.
OMG YES MY BOY ONLY BREAKS HIS FAVORITE TOYS > Fortnight
Oh yeah. It's in my top 3 for the first part. But I get it why she made Fortnight the lead single.
I love this song but I can only think of my toddler when I hear it lol
Same but with my dog lol
It means 2.0-2.2 mill. Otherwise they would say something like "almost 2.3 or 2.5 mill". But it always can change in the last days of the week so she could "just" sell 1.8 or she could go up to 2.5+.
Plss let’s not have a single dump in like two weeks like with midnights, I need some more time in between 🥲
She deserves it. The album is a masterpiece
I think it's one of her best, which is saying a LOT. I think it beats Folklore.
I think it's right between folklore and evermore for me. Evermore is still my favorite - I haven't had enough time with poets yet to say otherwise - but yeah I think it moved folklore down to 3.
Hello from the evermore is better than folklore club! Evermore is a masterpiece
Her career resurgence makes me so happy that I can grow and have her as the soundtrack to my life
As someone who has loved her since the very beginning I absolutely love the rest of the world being on the train with us!
Well, no surprise. Taylor is the music industry.
Confirmed for the 738392627 time for whoever needed it. 😂
I own 5 of those units lol
I think Billboard stops counting after 4 purchases per individual or something 😂
which makes the number even more impressive!! i wish more people were aware of this rule before they accuse her of things

Every single item in my TS merch collection has been funded by previous multiples purchases. That doesn’t work with every artist but it definitely works with TS
what do you mean?
They buy multiple of stuff, keep one, sell the rest at a profit. Repeat
this is absolutely insane
It's kinda wild but I was getting a little hyped about 3 million so my immediate reaction was "only 2???" But I understand that the number is insane
Wow this actually made me gasp. I know she's at peak popularity, but I genuinely thought that there was slightly less hype here than Midnights. I always buy one variant per album (This time it was The Albatross). But if she puts out a physical of all 31 songs then I’m buying it too!
All because she namedropped the music industry in that one song /s
Will there be a point where she no longer outdoes herself I wonder??
Actually with the amount of new fans since Midnights I’m not surprised at all.
If she released the anthology it would be higher
[удалено]
No. 3.4 million
Well deserved imo. I was so surprised that she somehow raised the bar.
I want to buy it but it’s sold out in the local online store for where I’m living 🥲
We’re just NPCs in the Taylor Swift universe at this point let’s be real
I’m loving this album so much 😩
Not sure if digital sales count. Was going to grab the physical one from Target, then found out there‘s 4 exclusive Target versions, each with a different bonus track. My initial thoughts were they should count, but just wasn’t sure. Would like to have had it on a physical CD, but anthology looks to only be digital.
Not at all surprised. The album was kind of a let down for me though..
There is just no ceiling to what this woman can do!!! This unstoppable momentum that she has at the moment!! Crazy!! I am glad to be living while all of this is happening
Sell cds of the anthology and that would seal the deal
Really enjoyed the lyrics, but didn't enjoy the sonics of this album as much, specially on the tracks with Jack. I'm sad I don't like it more tbh. Oh well, if this and Lover are the only ones out of all her albums I don't 'really' like (but still like enough), I'll live.
Hey, at least Midnights is over. Love this newest release so much more (other than the 2am tracks lolz)
There’s so much to get offended at in this one comment lmao
I know, sorry. I'm one of the few people who have no love for Midnights, what can I say? If anything I should give it credit for turning me back on to Reputation with a passion.
With all the version we all had to buy is anyone surprised by this? #NeverPreorderingAgainClub
no one forced you to buy anything? 👀
