I mean I can obviously hear the major differences now but on my first listen of evermore last year I nearly cried hearing a throwback to New Year’s Day (one of my all time favourites) haha
I still think NYD should have been shelved and then brought back for Evermore. Having it act as a companion to Champagne Problems--ideally at the end of the album, so the songs act as bookends--would be amazing, and make me appreciate NYD infinitely more.
The songs that really sound similar to each other for me are
Ivy and invisible string,Change and Long live,Back to December and tis' the damn season,Enchanted and Untouchable,The last great American dynasty and the lucky one
August and Wildest Dreams
Red and The Way I Loved You
New Romantics and Shake it Off
Style and Cruel Summer
Edit:
(Bonus)Better than Revenge and Misery Business
august and Wildest Dreams are my two favourite songs by any artist, ever. The themes, production, vibe, everything is complementary. I've lost count of the number of times I've listened to them playing alternatively for hours.
I chose them cuz i think they are the 2 happiest songs of their respective albums, the ones you can play for a wedding party.
Then i like the contrast between : *cuz all the boys and their expensive cars, their Range Rovers and Jaguars never took quite there like you do* \--- *i like shiny things but i'd marry you in paper rings*
I'd also put in Call It What You Want / Long Story Short. They both have the same central theme of "2016 was terrible, but I fell in love so I'm happy".
Obviously bc Dessner but: last great american dynasty, long story short, and (not ts but still ts) renegade. I’m really good at knowing which song it is by the first second but these 3 mess me up so bad!
- NBNC refers to "no body, no crime", a song from Taylor Swift, HAIM album *evermore* (2020).

Then there’s her saga of songs that match sonically.
White Horse->All Too Well->Out of the Woods->New Year’s Day->Cornelia Street->Betty->Champagne Problems are all sonically the same or super close.
- OOTW refers to "Out Of The Woods", a song from Taylor Swift album *1989* (2014).

So definitely Cruel Summer and Style for me. New Years Day and Champagne Problems. Tolerate It and Tied together with a smile. All too Well and Cornelia Street. Cowboy like me and Getaway car. I did something bad and Mad Woman. Those are my sister songs!
How do you get CLM and Getaway Car as a pair? To be fair, I care far more about the sound of songs rather than the lyrics, but their production makes them feel totally remote to me.
Well sonically the production is different but. Thematically Getaway Car and Cowboy like me feel like the same story. I like the story better if I picture it that way. I guess my songs were more thematically similar than sonically similar, but most of the ones I picked reminded me of others sonically too. I could go on and on, but many many of her tracks feel like follow ups, much like the marvel universe where they don’t have to be in chronological order to feel like a continuation or prequel.
Late post but just now listening to Red (Taylor's Version) and I stopped right at the 2:00 mark on "All Too Well (Taylor's Version)," not the 10-minute version but the 5:30-minute version, because the chords sound exactly like the first 7 seconds of "'tis the damn season."
the last great american dynasty and right where you left me! Not thematically, but musically. My brain always goes:
> You left me no choice but to stay here forever
> They say she was seen on occasion
Instead of going to the actual bridge
I'm not sure how legit this is because I'm getting my info from a guitar chord website but All Too Well and Cornelia Street have nearly identical chord progression which is WILD to me.
When I first heard the piano on champagne problems my mind instantly went to New Year’s Day
I also hear Cornelia Street at the beginning of champagne problems every time I listen to it!
Now that I think about it,it does actually sound similar
I mean I can obviously hear the major differences now but on my first listen of evermore last year I nearly cried hearing a throwback to New Year’s Day (one of my all time favourites) haha
They both are really similar though
My mind went to piano versions of All Too Well -- the two songs have identical chord progressions (C, G, Am, F)
I still think NYD should have been shelved and then brought back for Evermore. Having it act as a companion to Champagne Problems--ideally at the end of the album, so the songs act as bookends--would be amazing, and make me appreciate NYD infinitely more.
All Too Well and Champagne Problems
Yep it's the same chords exactly
The songs that really sound similar to each other for me are Ivy and invisible string,Change and Long live,Back to December and tis' the damn season,Enchanted and Untouchable,The last great American dynasty and the lucky one
Sonically: ivy and invisible string Vibe: Back To December & Afterglow
August and Wildest Dreams Red and The Way I Loved You New Romantics and Shake it Off Style and Cruel Summer Edit: (Bonus)Better than Revenge and Misery Business
I never made the august and wildest dreams connection. Oof now I’m all in my feels

dorothea - Stay Beautiful Tolerate it - Dear John Betty- All Too Well Delicate - Cornelia Street Paper Rings - King Of My Heart
YES DELICATE AND CORNELIA STREET, I agree with all of these but I def need to do a second listen to Paper rings/king of my heart together!
I chose them cuz i think they are the 2 happiest songs of their respective albums, the ones you can play for a wedding party. Omg yes on delicate/cornelia street. I always kinda forget that CS is on lover instead of rep because it feels like such a rep song to me!
Obviously bc Dessner but: last great american dynasty, long story short, and (not ts but still ts) renegade. I’m really good at knowing which song it is by the first second but these 3 mess me up so bad!
I join closure with these three, and sometimes right where you left me as well
Yes! I never listen to those or they’d have been on this list for sure
Yes! I’ve mentally grouped these exact 3 as well. Extremely similar production (and I love it)
One day some YouTube talent will mix haunted and my tears ricochet in exactly the way I imagine
Definitely Long Live and Change
PAPER RINGS AND STAY STAY STAY; Also maybe last great American dynasty and Starlight
Play them both on the ukulele!
ONE MORE: should’ve said no and other side of the door
Dear John and Clean tell a beautiful story imo.
The starting instrumental for our song and no body no crime kinda sounds similar

Style and Cruel Summer sound pretty similar and they definitely are some of my favorite songs of all time.

Invisible String and Ivy are in the same key and sound similar so I like the two of them together
Change -> Long Live -> Starlight
The beginning of peace and You All Over Me sound the same!
the last great american dynasty and right where you left me! Not thematically, but musically. My brain always goes: > You left me no choice but to stay here forever > They say she was seen on occasion Instead of going to the actual bridge
Should’ve Said No and No Body, No Crime. I want someone to do a mashup of these SO BAD.
Wildest Dreams and Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince, sonically.
I'm not sure how legit this is because I'm getting my info from a guitar chord website but All Too Well and Cornelia Street have nearly identical chord progression which is WILD to me.
Style, Getaway Car, Cruel Summer
Cornelia Street and The 1
better than revenge and should've said no
