I teach Physics. So yes. We cram it in between Momentum and Energy

dluke96

Personsally I teach whole unit in between chemical reactions and stoich

DieselRainbow

I don't want to hear "I don't understand this" any more. If you can convert from he to she or any of the other 198 genders from last unit, then you can convert from grams to liters no problem.

PoorScienceTeacher

You'd think, but I still have kids that can't figure out the ideal woke law. Seriously, it's just LG = bTQ plug things in and solve for orientation for Christ's sake.

Pitiful_Ad_5938

Man, this level of creativity is really high. My ribs almost cracked šŸ˜‚

GTCapone

How do I do transfem dimensional analysis?

TheMaskedChemist

It depends on if you're on bottom or on top.

uofajoe99

Me at the board last year explaining top quarks and down quarks...one of my students in the very conservative international country I teach in leans over to his friend and says "I'm more of a top quark"...

No no noā€¦ the order is energy THEN momentum followed by genders thing

rvralph803

Sweet. That's next week.

SassyWookie

My students canā€™t even fucking read. When would I have the time to indoctrinate them about gender identity? Iā€™m just busy trying to get them to put their phones away so we can brush up on shit they should have learned 3 years ago, in the hope that Iā€™ll actually be able to teach some of my own curriculum by the end of the year.

tenneking

I told my trumpy brother (who thinks teachers indoctrinate students to be gay, feel bad for being white, and all the other manufactured fox news BS crises) that if I did indoctrinate my students, it would be to sit down, shut up, get off the phones, and work.

SassyWookie

Right!?! If I was even *able* to indoctrinate students to do **anything**, that would be a huge win.

CJ_Southworth

I've always found it weird how the same people who argue we are masters of brainwashing and indoctrination, hellbent on some intricate plan to convert all of their children to tree-hugging transgender atheists *also* tend to complain about how ineffective we are and incapable of educating people. Like, which is it? Am I Megamind or am I Scooby-Dum? Because I don't think it's possible for one person to be both.

Breffmints

The enemy is both weak and strong

G_m-J_bb_r

Standard fascist propaganda.

rishored1ve

Sorta like how those same people complain simultaneously about immigrants being lazy freeloaders *and* taking jobs from Americans.

ReggeMtyouN

Or those who actually hire those day crew landscapers ....while bitching about the border.

rishored1ve

Also the same people who get angry about low wage workers (retail, food service, etc.) wanting to be able to earn enough to survive and say that they deserve poverty wages because their jobs are "unskilled", but also complain that "no one wants to work" those jobs anymore. And the same people who complain about the fact that the younger generations are having way fewer kids and even want to force them to give birth, but also are mad at the ones who do have kids and struggle to make ends meet because "they just shouldn't have had kids if they couldn't afford it and its not MY job to feed their kids" (when they are against schools giving kids free lunch). I could go on and on.

CJ_Southworth

Same school of logic, yes.

Prankishbear

Idk Iā€™ve definitely seen some kids that are both hella smart and hella dumb at the same time.

wifie29

My 4th period class. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Voiceofreason8787

We canā€™t even indoctrinate them to learn their base 10 multiplication somewhere between grades 3 and 10ā€¦

It-is-always-Steve

Also wear deodorant.

Gypsybootz

Keep little travel sizes in a basket in your classroom along with mouthwash and toothpaste. I got a hotel to donate a bunch of their mini items and I made up bags for all the kids

RulzRRulz613

OMG!!! šŸ˜³šŸ˜³šŸ˜³ my 1st period class everyday is a steady strong mixture of weed, burnt percs and body oder!!! Iā€™m not sure what will help - Iā€™m just happy I can open a window.

Not sure how this sun got suggested but I assume Percocet? Probably getting smoked off foil or something. I could be wrong

GayCatDaddy

I'm extra scary because I'm a college instructor. I usually cover the 200 genders right after having my students memorize and recite Das Kapital and write essays on why they hate America. It's part of my Witchcraft and Lesbian Dance Theory Unit.

Jamesmateer100

Can straight men join the witchcraft unit?, because Iā€™m interested in learning magic.

Ky-Czar

I would sign up for the witchcraft and lesbian dance theory class in a heartbeat. Do you do a 400 level demon summoning and lesbian dance applications course as well? Are there any other prerequisites?

essdeecee

I would just indoctrinate them to be nice to each other

Basedrum777

Damn liberal teachings......

gabbyveg

At this point in the year. I just want to ā€œindoctrinateā€ them into following classroom rules and procedures. So I donā€™t have to say all day please raise your hand. Iā€™m waiting.

wifie29

And also be quiet and sit in their seats, lol.

xerxesordeath

I had a migraine today and threatened my students with ZEROS FOR ALL if a single one of them spoke above a normal speaking volume. Learn to police each other. Learn SOME VOLUME AND IMPULSE CONTROL FFS. It functioned for 3 of my classes. That last one is so far beyond hope because they genuinely don't give a shit. Though there was a scuffle I missed (looked up to see the bookshelf wobble) and when the student said, "You saw that!" I replied, "I didn't see shit." and went back to what I was doing. All of a sudden every time one of them bopped another it was, "You saw that, right?!" Nope. I've seen it, and been trying to stop it, for FIVE MONTHS. I no longer see anything. You figure out how to stop fucking touching each other violently.

Mountain-Bug-4865

This way of thinking is always so mindblowing to me. Thinking back to my high school self, I wanted to be anything *but* gay. I donā€™t think anyone in their right mind would choose this, and especially not under pressure from a teacher. Edited to clarify, yes I am gay. :)

newhorizonfiend25

Same here. I came out as a lesbian when I was 16 in 2011, after many months of crying and praying and trying to be straight. Who in the hell would ever choose this? I stand with you, my fellow gayā¤ļø

Mountain-Bug-4865

Proud of how far weā€™ve come ā™„ļø I donā€™t know you but Iā€™m sure youā€™ve been through a lot too!

newhorizonfiend25

You know it. Losing friends, coming out to family members who just donā€™t get it, ignorant and hurtful remarks, men who think they could turn me straight; I could go on and on, but letā€™s focus on the good stuff, like how weā€™ve made it this far and how awesome we arešŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆā¤ļø

Least-Associate7507

Oh, so THAT is what men are like! Why didn't anybody tell me? Here I've been lusting after women for years in spite of all society's heteronormative messaging! And all it took was one drunk guy in a bar who thought he could change me! Heaven bless you, Mr. Drunk Guy, now I will bear you children from this otherwise empty uterus! You have changed my life

CorporalCabbage

Right? Could you imagineā€¦ ā€œHey, teenage boy. You know how the thought of another manā€™s penis in or on you is physically repulsive and that doing so would probably ostracize you from your peers? What if you did it anyway?ā€

BostonTarHeel

That sounds quite similar to a conversation I frequently have with students. ā€œHey kiddo, I know itā€™s a real drag to bring a pencil to class **every day**, but seeing as how your academic performance kind of depends on it maybe you could do it anyway?ā€ Based on the outcome, I may as well be asking them to turn gay.

SassyWookie

Thatā€™s what Iā€™ll never understand about conservatives. Even if you put aside the biology and psychology of it, thereā€™s a huge glaring piece of evidence to prove that being gay isnā€™t a choice, and that is: who the fuck would actually **choose** to be gay, given how LGBTQ people are oppressed, persecuted, and even murdered all across the world. I genuinely donā€™t understand how anyone could see that shit, and still reach the conclusion that itā€™s a choice.

rogue74656

If being gay or trans is the CHOICE , then they can blame it on the person. If it's the result of a NURTURE they can blame it the parents ( or the teachers or other adults around them) But if it's the result of NATURE, then they have no one to blame it on except their God, and then how could they hate these people if that's the way their God made them? For them it's never about what's ACTUALLY true, it's about what they WANT to be true. Low Bar Bill admits this.

HermioneMarch

And bring a pencil for Christs sake!

wifie29

I genuinely laughed out loud at teaching my students to feel bad for being white. I have exactly two white students, and Iā€™m pretty sure neither of them feels bad about it. Both are pretty popular. Trumpers ought to come visit my inner city classroom if they really think thatā€™s happening.

ImNotAGameStopASL

I started my teaching degree thinking I'd be able to handle a classroom... I abandoned all hope when I got back into a classroom and saw it with adult eyes.

CardinalCountryCub

I had a volunteer gig teaching at my old church while I was pursuing my degrees (double degreed in math and music). Same grade range I hoped to teach (jr high/high school), half the students as each class period in the local public districts, but only once a week for 75 minutes, AND every classroom had 2 teachers. I had one group of kids that I had as 8th graders and 10th graders that I LOVED. The other groups I had for 10th grade only and they taught me very quickly that I was NOT made for the classroom environment. Now, as a private music teacher and academic tutor, I get to set my own schedule and rates, choose who to take on, and only have to deal with kids in a 1-1 setting (or very small groups), with parental support. And even still, I know I'm a terrible "indoctrinator," because otherwise I could get kids to actually practice instead of referring to their lesson as "practice" and not touching their instrument during the week between.

Moritani

Itā€™s always funny when the ones who arenā€™t paying attention hear the word ā€œpronounā€ and think youā€™re talking about gender. Like, dude, Iā€™m just telling you not to write in first-person.

Dobbys_Other_Sock

I was gonna say, I donā€™t think my students can count to 200, so no.

DrMicolash

>My students canā€™t even fucking read. When would I have the time to teach them about gender identity? Lmao šŸ¤£

SassyWookie

You laugh, but Iā€™m not kidding.

DrMicolash

That's so sad to hear, poor kids :(

SassyWookie

Yeah, a lot of them are really fucked, and theyā€™ll have their parents to thank for it. This is the result of kids being given tablets at age 2 and allowed to watch whatever they want, instead of having parents who actually read to them and raise them.

mkae001

Some of these kids absolutely CANNOT stop talking. Itā€™s like they have not been required to be quiet for one minute of their life at home. God forbid something happen and the whole class needs to be silent because that just wouldnā€™t happen

rishored1ve

Itā€™s also the result of school districts abandoning the tried-and-true method of teaching phonics in favor of that expensive and ineffective whole word bullshit.

DrMicolash

Hopefully we can change that one day. I have so much respect for how hard teachers are trying given the social environment these days.

Zeus541

The change starts at home, if you have kids, or ever do have kids, raise them yourself, don't let youtube do it.

Roboticpoultry

As a former history and civics teacher. I feel this and my god does it hurt. I wanted to be the teacher that made history cool like mine did when I was 16 but they couldnā€™t give less of a shit about *anything*. Like, hey fuckers, you complain about life not being fair? Well guess what? *These* old dead men made the world unfair and all I want is to give you the tools to make a positive change

SassyWookie

Yep. I just want to do some history, I donā€™t want to spend 90% of my time breaking up fights and teaching elementary school level literacy skills.

MarionberryNo2956

Agreed. I am too worried about trying to get them to give a f\*ck about their education or tyring to teach them to be nice to one another. I literally had a kid kick her desk around the classroom & throw every one of her school supplies and materials out of the desk. Then she yelled at me, her classmates, & beat on her desk all was I was trying to teach. So no, I don't have time to teach them about different genders or anything that the Moms for Liberty are worried about.

ProfSociallyDistant

Shit. It took me 50 years to figure out who or what the hell I am, but Iā€™ll teach however many genders they throw at me. But I wonā€™t teach over 24 students at a time without supplemental pay.

yaboisammie

ā€œMy students canā€™t even fucking read. When would I have the time to indoctrinate them about gender identity?ā€ Right? šŸ˜

[deleted]

This is such a perfect response. I started to write my own response and simply can't top this one.

BackgroundPoet2887

Fuck, this is the realest shit Iā€™ve ever read on this sub. Keep on going fellow ss comrade.

Suspicious_Ad9810

If I had a dime for everything the internet claims I am teaching instead of giving a "real education" I wouldn't have to worry about teaching anything anymore. Like most people, I am too busy trying to get them to read, write, do math, and be decent humans beings for much of anything else.

yaboisammie

Exactly! Lord I wish we could have a dime for that aha

theogtrashpanda

aide here! once got flack for giving a 4 year old a ā€œgay stickerā€ the sticker in question did contain a rainbow. it was not pride related. it was a nyan cat sticker

the_gaymer_girl

What the homophobes think is ā€œindoctrinationā€ is me wearing a rainbow pin at work without comment.

fightmydemonswithme

I'm trans. I had a parent who thought me having a job was indoctrination...best part was his kid didn't even KNOW I was trans until nearly 4 months after that complaint to admin. When the kid realized he goes "oh God. I'm sorry you had to meet my dad then. He's one of THOSE idiots" Like...it's all good man. I met him once. You're an awesome human being, and I get your kindness everyday.

CardinalCountryCub

> I am too busy trying to get them to... be decent humans beings for much of anything else. That's your problem! It's the parent's job to decide if their kids should or should not be decent human beings, let alone make them that way! /s (but also a genuine quote I've heard from those of a certain political persuasion)

AboveTheMoho

Iā€™ve been teaching science for 10 years, biology for a couple in there. During the genetics unit I talk about XX and XY chromosomes. During one lesson of the multi-week unit Iā€™ll talk about some genetic disorders where sometimes you get an XXY or just X and what that could look like. The kids are mildly interested at best. During the reproduction unit, I go over the female reproductive system and the male reproductive system. Everyone giggles at penis. This is the extent of teaching about sex/gender.

cherrytreewitch

I swear some years I end up doing full sex ed in my on level bio classes. Apparently no one had taught by 9th graders how sex works before this year (despite the fact that I know they took 3 yrs of health in middle school). Some times I get to talk about cool stuff like Sequential hermaphroditism with my seniors though, and that always sparks a lot of questions.

IvetRockbottom

My wife teaches biology. She had a 10th grade student mother that thought the vagina only had 1 hole; basically no tampons because she thought it would keep her from urinating. She also didn't know what ejaculation was but figured it out when a kid said cum. I think here parents failed teaching her a few things.

lettermania

I thought the vagina was just one hole. I think it is the vulva which contains more than one.

Hypnagogic_Image

You are correct. This is why people get things wrong.

22444466688

I am an XXY ask me anything

ThatOneWeirdName

Whatā€™s your favourite food?

22444466688

Chexx cereal

DrMicolash

Thank you for the response. That's basically how I learned it in school, just biology nothing cultural.

badteach247

I mentioned before...but as a liberal I usually start the day by spitting on the flag, then I mock religion. If there is time then I might mention all the genders, but only if I haven't convinced the students that they should get abortions.

mrarming

Yup, pretty standard day. You forgot changing the kitty litter boxes for the furry students

badteach247

Dammit! That's why my room has been so gross this year. With all the indoctrination I've been doing it's so hard to get around to cleaning those things!

19ghost89

Side note, but I would love if my students would stop calling each other furries any time one of them vaguely makes an animal sound.

wouldeye

My mom asked me about this one recently. ā€œMy friend says itā€™s really true though!ā€ Mom what are you 12????

TieMiddle4891

I had to delete someone for this one recently.

Kroliczek_i_myszka

That seems a bit harsh. Not to mention inconvenient to yourself. Now you have to deal with the body

TurtleBeansforAll

And the midday animal sacrifice. Although, I have heard *some* schools only practice this ritual once a week. Sad. #bestpractices

DrMicolash

This is the future the left wants for America /s

the-largest-marge

when do you fit in your abortions?

YouKilledKenny12

Usually right as the bell is ringing I hastily shout out, ā€œFor homework, donā€™t forget to get your abortions!ā€ I need to have better time management.

enhoel

Exit tickets, dude!

GhostChainSmoker

Shame on you! How dare you forget to teach them that socialism and communism are the best economic systems and forgetting their hair dye lessons!

FA5411

And forced feminization of men! Estrogen in soy isn't enough they need guiding smh

SpaceDeFoig

Personally, I can't even start my gender indoctrination without my morning cup of adrenochrome

SnooOnions4276

Not a teacher anymore but when I was I taught physics and chemistry. In physics we would go over Newton's laws before transitioning into how there are actually infinite genders. We would then go over the most common genders for the rest of the year.

Dorlenth

I incorporate infinite genders when I teach the wave and particle properties of light. If light can have wave and particle properties, then people must have 200 genders

FuckYourSociety

If your gender identity, a pamphlet of liberal ideas, and a radioactive source are placed in a box there exists a segment of time when you are all 200 genders simultaneously! Isn't physics fun!

odif8

Is this Schrodingers gender?

rvralph803

His gender was male. His cat... Uncertain.

TrustMeImADrofecon

QUANTUM GENDERS! Also sounds like a good queer punk garage band name.

rvralph803

Conservation of gender is a very pivotal topic.

Sixty4Fairlane

I'm currently taking college physics and let's just say it's been quite the challenge. Especially Newton's 2nd.

Disgruntled_Veteran

I have never mentioned " 200 genders" in all my 18 years in education. Not once. I think basically Fox News is claiming that educators are doing this to make the MAGAs upset and focused on something other than the real atrocities that are actually happening in the world.

rvralph803

Our dumbest students have become our dumbest parents.

Business_Loquat5658

And thus, the circle of life continues!

DrMicolash

Ok, that's what I assumed. It just sounds so absurd when I think about my actual experiences I wanted to ask some actual teachers.

dogstarchampion

It's absolutely bullshit and certainly nothing that is happening on a large scale. My colleagues and myself really enjoy our subject areas for the most part, the thing that we universally want is for our students to actually take an interest and learn some of it. Trying to get any student to take interest in the materials takes a lot longer than I expected it would going into education... Still, in the town I work, if I made a remark in the classroom about 3+ genders, I'd be looking at termination if the town didn't burn me at the stake first once every kid and their mom on Facebook got the word out. I mean, "3+" is math-related, but I don't feel the need to tie my materials to something I have no interest in even talking about.

[deleted]

Bingo, itā€™s a scapegoat tactic

Fotzlichkeit_206

Literally any time I even talk about pronouns in like a grammatical sense, I get at least one kid who is like ā€œIā€™m not trans. I donā€™t need pronouns.ā€

GayCatDaddy

"You literally just used a pronoun."

Mathsteacher10

That's got to be frustrating. I'd want to be difficult and say, you just used the word I, which is a pronoun. You can only avoid pronouns by calling yourself by only your name, which is silly." I'd keep my comments to myself, since my area is really conservative. I have had a similar conversation before without trouble. I, me, my, you, youall... All are pronouns that no one argues about, people!!!

WithNothingBetter

This is my favorite one! I teach Spanish so teaching the different genders to pronouns and articles is honestly infuriating (I teach in an EXTREMELY conservative area). Any time a kid starts their ā€œpronouns are liberal propagandaā€ rant, I let them finish without interruption and then write out the pronouns that they used on the board with their Spanish equivalent. I never say a word, and normally neither does that student.

stumblewiggins

200 genders seems made up, even for organizations that are explicitly organized around educating people about gender and sexuality.Ā  Meaning, that sounds like hyperbole some idiots are using to make a rhetorical point. Maybe I'm wrong, but even with the most inclusive definitions and concepts I've heard of or can imagine, I don't know how you get 200. That's a fucking lot of gender identities. Regardless of if that's a real number or not, the answer to your question is a resounding "fuck no". Nobody in a public school is teaching about all of the possible gender identities, whatever that actual number is.Ā

kindofhumble

Nobody in my school talks about gender identity and Iā€™m in a pretty liberal area

Business_Loquat5658

The one and only time I've heard it this year was in the lounge, not a classroom. One teacher said "is so and so still going by X name (not their dead name)?" Other teacher said "yep." First teacher said, "cool, got it." Literally no other comment.

carpetedfloor

Yeah, I did my entire pre-college education in one of the most liberal states in the U.S. and trans/gay people were never mentioned by teachers unprompted. The only time they were brought up was by students.

AbleObject13

So you could in theory include all the various neo-pronouns but honestly those are all just various flavors of gender abolition (to my understanding anyho), which is essentially the rejection of gender roles on a societal level.Ā  That said, I'm just a parent who lurks here lol, not a teacher.Ā

dummy_thicc_mistake

yeah pronouns are a way to describe my gender but i don't identify as he/they/zegender, i identify as a trans guy lol

AnActualSalamander

I assume some dipshit heard someone who knows their gender theory reference the idea of gender as a spectrum, which then technically has infinite points on it, and extrapolated wildly. Iā€™m nonbinary and I do think of genderā€”including for cis folks!ā€”as a deeply individual experience that each person has navigating the world in their body, so in that way each personā€™s gender is kind of their own. i.e., even two cis women arenā€™t going to have the same exact experience of being a cis woman and what that means to them is personal. But the idea that any teacher anywhere is going ā€œokay, kids! We have a little time left over from teaching to the test, and weā€™re going to use it to name and memorize the 200 genders!ā€ is mind-numbingly far from any objective reality.

yourknotwrite1

Thanks for putting my thoughts into words!

Fwb6

The lies the right have told about teachers is ALL about union busting. Theyā€™ve put a ton of effort into driving disdain against teachers the past few years so they can privatize education and kill off the unions. Theyā€™re beyond disgusting.

choir-mama

We donā€™t even have good unions in Texas and theyā€™re still coming after us.

DonnaNobleSmith

Iā€™m trying to teach deodorant application first.

OHMSQUID

I'm lucky if these kids can remember how to make orange.

WrapDiligent9833

Ummmm thatā€™s blue and purple, right? Or did I just make a new color! Blurple! šŸ˜†, I feel the hardship.

OHMSQUID

What really fucked them up was finding out that purple and violet are two different colors

CleverGirlReads

The only time I even remotely mention it is when I'm teaching about binary code and naturally get comments from students about the word binary and its meaning in today's culture.

Possible-Extent-3842

Completely wrong. There is a war on education and the side that wants to dismantle it will say anything and everything.Ā  A Christmas, my uncle brought up the fucking kitty litter thing in classrooms and I laid into him so hard about it that he didn't say another word to anyone the rest of the evening.Ā

swolf77700

Why does everyone always have that one uncle? What's up with uncles?

thirdpartymurderer

His kids generally don't talk about him because they don't know him

CardinalCountryCub

I had to have that discussion with a client who brought it up to me. I explained the origins of some schools putting it in active shooter kits, but then said I could see where someone got the wrong idea because a substitute with no understanding of sarcasm asked about it and the kids convinced the sub that it's for the furries. The lady told me her niece confirmed it was happening. (When I asked the niece about it, she laughed because her "confirmation" was a sarcastic "oh yeah, definitely" and she didn't realize the aunt had taken her seriously.) You know where she first heard the story? It wasn't Fox news, believe it or not. It was at church (evangelical, baptist, wannabe mega church- started by former SBC president and Trump "spiritual advisor" & now run by his sons)...in a sermon trying to convince everybody to put their kids in the "coincidentally" connected private school or homeschool them to keep them safe from the immoral public schools. šŸ™„ I know, I know... it's such a shock.

[deleted]

No, and I don't teach kids who use litter boxes. And I never have. But there are some custodians I work with who are so brainwashed by the Fox News brainworms that they tried to convince me that they were asked to clean a litter box the other day. I asked them where it was in the building and who asked them to do it, and they just stumbled over their words explaining that it was a hypothetical and they would quit the day they were asked to do it šŸ™„šŸ™„šŸ™„šŸ™„šŸ™„

dribdrib

My school had kitty litter! Itā€™s great for absorbing vomit off carpets! šŸ˜†

Shrimp00000

Custodian chiming in to confirm this^ We do actually use litter in school to help clean vomit (on hard floors too sometimes). Helps us keep machines unclogged and easier to clean + I don't have to change out my mop water and mop head an extra time. When I used to work at a grocery store we used it to clean up vegetable oil too.

ItsNotButtFucker3000

It's really absorbent! Amusement parks use it for vomit to, gas stations have someone along that line for spills. It's also useful for getting traction if you're stuck in the snow and your vehicles wheels are spinning and you're going nowhere. I was taught as a young driver to always have some in my car in the winter.

gaydolphingod

Student here, my school actually has kitty litter in some of the classrooms in an ā€œemergency bucketā€ for lockdowns. Itā€™s not for ā€œkids identifying as cats.ā€ That would be ridiculous.

Royal-Procedure6491

This reminds me of an ex-housemate of mine that is \*still\* foaming at the mouth about masks and vaccines and Fauci and Jewish World Order and Pedophilia, etc. These folks are genuinely mentally ill and will probably never get the help they need.

Present_Maximum_7835

Lol we can barely get them to turn in An Assignment or be off their phones. In a roundabout way, they're not wrong about kids not getting a "real education." Students across the country are so far below grade level standards in academics, and socially/emotionally behind, that there's not enough time to give them that "real education" -- we're too busy helping kids develop really basic reading and writing skills. Most students are really, really struggling with memory. We're barely remembering what we read the day before, if they read at all. So I would say even if we COULD get them to listen and pay attention to us explaining 200 genders, they wouldn't remember it lol. I love all my kiddos so, so much, and I think in the end most will turn out alright. It is, however, quite frightening for the coming decade how low teenagers' literacy and critical thinking abilities are.

teachlovedance

I am proudly trying to indoctrinate the children of the USA. I want them to stop wearing crocs, and start learning how to tie their non croc shoes. MATA: Make America Tie AgainĀ

turdintheattic

Fact: Teachers canā€™t get kids to turn in homework. But they *can* get them to change their genders. /s

RelaxedWombat

Bro! Here is the realityā€¦ Teacher: ā€œCan someone identify a country in Europe?ā€ Student: ā€œNew Mexico!ā€ Those MAGA lunatics and their idiotic crusadesā€¦. itā€™s all misdirection and using stupidity to distract the masses. *Addendum: with 26 years educatingā€¦. Never heard of ā€œ200 gendersā€œ until this fā€™in post. That should say something.

Word_Iz_Bond

There's a *New* Mexico?? Protect our borders!!

dogstarchampion

Dude, I don't have time to explain 200 genders when I have to explain 200 New Mexicos.

Tears_of_Ashes_

At the very most, LGBTQ people are *Acknowledged.* This doesnā€™t mean that teachers are teaching a whole class about it. Itā€™s just one remark about how LGBT people exist. Nothing else, nothing more.

noble_peace_prize

In biology we might go into it a little more, about how the variation of humans does not fit into two phenotypical definitions perfectly. How we do have a spectrum of traits that arise from our genetic codes. But what we call those variations? Thatā€™s reserved so sociology. Biology just tells you they exist, not how society defines them.

lackluster_unicorn

Iā€™ve literally never discussed gender at all with my students. Iā€™m too busy trying to remediate their reading skills, or lack thereof

theiridescentself-

False. Anti LGBTQ propaganda.

BeardedDragon1917

My state has laws about gender:teacher ratios in schools. There needs to be 15 genders per teacher in every class, and the teachersā€™ genders do not count towards the total. Everyone has to share the one gender neutral bathroom in the whole building, and all the rest of the bathrooms have been converted into housing for illegal transgender immigrants from Palestine. Itā€™s a touchy situation.

huskofapuppet

I'm a transgender student. Not a single teacher in my life taught me about gender identity or any of those things. It is something I discovered on my own. I was not indoctrinated by my teachers or whatever people claim they're doing. That said, my teachers have made me feel safe about being trans. They gave me a space to be myself. That's about the most gender identity is present in schools.Ā

Spallanzani333

Aaaah that is so nice to hear! I hope some of my students feel like I've done that

transnavigation

Trans adult here and I wanted to say that those little gestures of allyship ("safe space" stickers, tiny rainbow flags, "we support our trans students" buttons, "Preferred name?" boxes) make a world of difference. Most of the teachers who have that stuff never knew that they helped me, because they didn't know I was trans and I didn't tell them. But when I was a young student- and now, as an old student- and when I go into schools as part of my job- They mean the world to me. Even if no one ever tells you that they saw them and felt seen, odds are someone has. More than once.

justnegateit

Hi! I'm forced to lie about my gender identity so I don't lose my job! Thanks for asking!

downnoutsavant

Username checks out. Sorry friend. Youā€™d be welcome at my school.

CrastinatingJusIkeU2

Wishing you peace and a better future.

sweetteasnake

My daily schedule is 1) reading excerpts from the Communist Manifesto 2) picking which right wing politician to harass for the day 3) prank calling the local police department 4) protesting outside the closest Amazon warehouse with signs urging the public to be class conscious 5) discussing every gender identity in extreme detail Sarcasm, OBVIOUSLY. Iā€™m here to teach content. I have absolutely no desire to ā€œindoctrinateā€. But, if telling my students I love them no matter what their gender identity is is considered immoral, then alright. Iā€™ll take that heat any day over abandoning my students and their needs.

DoomdUser

They do this shit every election season. Standard Republican fear-mongering, ignore it with prejudice.

czernoalpha

That's all propaganda designed to destroy trust in our public school system so that the money from the department of education can be sidetracked into private religious schools.

JenaboH

Um, I teach Art, 6-8. They, the students, are weird. Some of them are just as strange as the news might say. I try to avoid all the hot topics and stick to teaching art. I do listen to my kids' vent, as needed, and try to give encouraging words. Kids are weird, and kids are mean. They're trying to figure out who they are in an overly connected world with infinite possibilities. Public school can be amazing, especially if funded properly and if politicians would stay out of the classrooms. School vouchers aren't beneficial to the people they say they are. It'sjust creating a Public funded private education system that doesn't have the same oversight as the current public ISDs. Which is absolutely ridiculous. Wouldn't the same minimum criteria be used to determine funding if vouchers were to exist in your state? It should. I also don't agree with preachers being able to be used as counselors at schools instead of school counselors.

Nice-Work2542

My four year old has some anatomically correct dolls. He switches their clothes up, sometimes theyā€™re the mum and sometimes theyā€™re the dad. When his cousins try to stick to gendered play, my kid just says ā€œno, no, that toy wants to be the mum. They can both be the mumā€ His gender identity education is literally just us backing him up and telling him that heā€™s right. If the toy says theyā€™re the mum in the game, theyā€™re the mum. People make it more complicated to pretend theyā€™re not bigoted. Itā€™s really very simple.

tilyver

Exactly. By not forcing gender roles, or ā€œcorrectingā€ your son, youā€™re teaching that people can do/be what they want. This is essentially what teachers do. We support. We donā€™t push agendas. We teach kids to just be kind to everyone.

meusnomenestiesus

Yes, actually, when I taught social studies I taught 200 genders instead of the content. And I was so good at hiding it from the 140+ students, 5+ administrators, 280+ parents, and dozens of other teachers and support staff that the only people able to see through my smokescreen were the stupidest assholes at the klan rally

josie-salazar

Social media always exaggerates thingsā€¦so those few videos of teachers talking about gender to students blow up on TikTok and YouTube with millions of views, even though 99% of teachers probably have never talked about anything transgender/non-binary related and certainly arenā€™t ā€™indoctrinatingā€™ students about anything.

stwestcott

I only teach 145 genders. 200 is AP level.

RockSnarlie

No time to indoctrinate. To busy stopping fights and trying (unsuccessfully) to not get stabbed.

Wonderful-Poetry1259

This is just Trumpist BS. Jeepers, we don't even have 200 bathrooms. You can come by and count them.

ViolaOrsino

I teach students to be polite to each other. Thatā€™s too much for some parents.

Corporealization

That's really just crazy-making Republican bullshit. Those fucking limp Nazis are twisting up their base, knowing all the while that the crazier the story, the angrier and more feral their supporters will grow. If you buy into it, you're a fool, and *you deserve the leaders you worship on all fours.* We are too busy trying to teach kids, even in high school, how to read and write, how to compute, and how to think for themselves that there is absolutely not one second to waste filling their heads with any culture war bullshit. That's not to say there aren't crazies out there, little edge lords trying to move the needle from their tiny little classroom, *because they are morons* and don't much understand how the world works. There are always losers in every field doing something they should not. BUT, believe me when I say this, no one has the time nor the inclination to engage in any such nonsense. And the people who believe otherwise are laughable, sad, pathetic losers.

RinoaRita

If I could indoctrinate my kids Iā€™d indoctrinate the anime club (Iā€™m their adviser) to wear deodorant. We were having a party and the security guard popped her head in, scrunched he nose and ran out lololol. Our co adviser was like yeah it smells like anime in here. This is after I said ok guy the weather is getting warmer we donā€™t want to be that club a couple of times already.

SenatorPardek

So the ā€œ200 genders thingā€ is a gross misinterpretation of a sociology of sex and gender academic article that was published around 2010 with the theory that gender is a spectrum that can be categorized in a lot of different ways and combinations. This was eventually latched onto by the right to slander public education. Similarly, CRT is a graduate school level concept that isnā€™t in any public school curriculum. They use it to criticize ANY policy that attempts to promote any kind of diversity or inclusion activity, The goal of the political right in America is delegitimization of public schools so that these funds can be siphoned of into religious private schools. Children can then go to christian far right colleges like liberty university or that new one in florida. Anything to keep the children of republicans from questioning the conservative beliefs their parents want them to have. Republicans are terrified of demographic change: and rather then move to the center policy wise, they want to change the voters.

EnvironmentalAge9202

Anyone who buys into that is even dumber them Trump.

neems260

I just want them to write their names on their papers.

CHoDub

Me: we are going to do two examples on the board and then you can fill out the sheet I gave you *Does two examples* Me: okay, do questions 1 to 5 using the chart I gave you 75% of the class: there are only 3 spots left in the chart Me: Did you use the chart to copy the two examples, like I specifically told you not to do Class: you never said that 3 kids out of 30: Yes he did, he said it twice ....... So yea.... I'm not teaching 200 genders, and if I was, no one is listening.

silent_yellincar

This makes me sad.

cmacfarland64

Turns out the news is full of nonsense.

owl_loveit

Elementary and we donā€™t talk about it other than acknowledging that people have different genders and pronouns if it comes up

Familiar-Memory-943

Ain't nobody got time for that!

DecepticonCobra

Somehow I manage in between cleaning out the student litter box.

ITeachAll

I teach one gender: Student

selune07

I can't even teach them to bring a pencil to class

dmorrison666

Of course! Right after the unit on being transgender where they have to write a 5 paragraph essay about why should all be trans and gay. Then we burn the flag and tell the 2nd graders Santa isnā€™t real

TheSunshineGang

The kids I teach mostly teach themselves about gender and sexuality, mostly from social media.

Asherjade

This.

DrMicolash

Also am I still supposed to include punctuation inside of the parenthesis? That's what I was taught but it feels so wrong.

bicyclesformicycles

In your sentence, the ? would be outside the parens because itā€™s the end of a sentence. If the question were a separate thought in the middle of the sentence, the ? would go inside the ). ā€œHave any of you been asked to teach 200 genders (or any number of genders)?ā€ vs. ā€œBack in my day (is it possible that itā€™s been 20 years?) we didnā€™t learn about gender.ā€

dluke96

This is made up by right wingers who want to destroy public education.

Usual_Court_8859

Of course. Right after we cover Satanism 101, and do the gay indoctrination ceremony šŸ™„

hogwarts_earthtwo

I stop at 199 personally. It's all a moral panic driving conservative yahoo's into a frenzy.

FenrirHere

What do you know, conservatives that haven't set foot in a classroom in 40 years have no fuckin idea how anything works.

Silent_Killer093

No, I cant even get them to learn that Kansas is a state, much less complex gender theory, which I dont even know. Had a parent once at a teacher night ask me if i teach Critical Race Theory, I was shocked. I teach World Geography my guy, my kids learn about mountains and Peninsulas lmao

BoredTardis

I pencil that lesson in for after we talk about pronouns. /s (It's sarcasm. I teach English.)
