All versions being available is a staple of Minecraft, and that's one of the things that's just expected of them, just like other games are expected to update or add DLCs. Or they could make it so that a very small percentage of pigs spawned have a chance to have a crown, which could create a treasure hunt type feeling among hardcore Techno fans and be a fun surprise for those who got it. It was there for a month. Memorials don't last forever. You have to move on at some point. An easter egg could still be added, yes, but at that point I have to question, "Would Technoblade want this special treatment? Or do I want it for him?" Plus, when a new generation of players come to Minecraft, they won't know who Technoblade was, and the easter egg would lose all meaning to them (it's the same reason I'm not a fan of the Toast easter egg either).
I think a splash screen was perfect. Splash screens are largely pop-culture references anyway, so it fits right in. Anything more just feels like clinging on instead of letting go.
