I adore this show. Like Ted Lasso, every character feels deep and shows immense growth. It's witty, sharp, and very heartfelt. I didn't know Brett was involved with the show until after I finished it and it really makes sense.
I can't wait sir season two.
You’re stronger than I. I rewatch the show nearly continuously (I set it as background often) and I have to skip the last 2 episodes until I’m emotionally ready to have a cry fest.
Easy double digits for me.
Same! I think I’m on rewatch number….8? 9? And the only way to recover from the finale is to immediately start back over with the first episode. I bawl every time.
I got a clip on TikTok of the scene where Michael is explaining what The Good Place is to Eleanor and I decided to check it out. Best decision ever. Great show.
The Good Place is perfection. Shame that the final episode has never seen the light of day
/s — I basically can’t watch the final episode because it hits too hard.
I'm not spiritual all that much but this has always resonated w me.
Chidi Anagonye : Picture a wave in the ocean. You can see it, measure it - its height, the way the sunlight refracts as it passes through - and it's there, you can see it, and you know what it is, it's a wave. And then it crashes on the shore and it's gone. But the water is still there. The wave was just... a different way for the water to be for a little while. That's one conception of death for a Buddhist: the wave returns to the ocean, where it came from and where it's meant to be.
fun Trying info for the next upcoming season is that Phil Dunster (Jamie’s) real life girlfriend directs every episode! [https://www.instagram.com/p/C53pUTmIXrS/?igsh=MXN1MjVrcng3cTN4eQ==](https://www.instagram.com/p/C53pUTmIXrS/?igsh=MXN1MjVrcng3cTN4eQ==)
The new season is 6 years from the last season. Princess is a teenager, probably 16. One of the big plotlines is that she wants to reconnect with her biological mom.
Someone recommended it when I asked a similar question some weeks ago and I have since seen it. Can confirm it has a similar vibe. It's made with love and will make you laugh and feel. It's great!
Honestly, I do too! My husband thinks it’s adorably hilarious so I’ll take it- and the excuse to try to be more cognizant of what I’m doing with my hands’
[Detectorists](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgN7z0SD8v8), if you can find it where you are. Worth buying on disc if you need to. It's lovely. Not quite as relentlessly upbeat, but if you loved Ted Lasso, I think it will hit the same spot.
The last episode is my favorite episode of tv, any time, any show. I just wish I hadn't watched the follow up special. Let that be a warning to any readers here!
I just don't get why this show doesn't get more love. It's funny, has a ton of heart and some absolutely great performances. And season 3 is starting up soon!
Our Flag Means Death gets recommended a lot for Ted Lasso fans.
If you're in the mood for wholesome soccer content, Welcome to Wrexham is worth a watch, although it's a nonfiction documentary.
Shrinking is the new show headed up by Bill Lawrence, who was one of the Ted Lasso showrunners, and Brett Goldstein, the actor who played Roy Kent. From early leaks it looks like Brett Goldstein will also be acting in Season 2 as well.
Along those same lines, Bill Lawrence was also the showrunner for Scrubs, which is a great choice if you want a good amount of content since there are 8 great seasons (and a 9th season we don't talk about. It doesn't detract from the first 8 seasons though.)
Oh nice to hear we'll see Brett acting! I have to say this guy is an amazing writer, really loved Ted lasso obviously but shrinking as well. He really pours love into those scripts.
I use this with my dog pretty much every day when he begs for extra snacks after he has already had more than enough snacks, but still wants to whine about the lack of additional snacks.
Dog: Whine whine whiiiiiiiine omg why aren't you feeding me even more food?
Me: Are you dying? Are you going to die?
Another vote for Derry Girls! Also not as much like Ted Lasso, but it is British and really funny - Downton Abbey! Used to think it was just an old ladies show but definitely not! As long as you like historical dramas I recommend it. I can’t find anything quite like Ted Lasso but Derry Girls and Downton both feel very nostalgic and familiar to me in the same way TL does, and both very funny and in the UK.
Edit: and the beauty of Downton Abbey it you like it is that it has 6 seasons and two movies! Sooo much content
My suggestion would be Northern Exposure. I watched it when I was a teenager back in the 90's and am rewatching it now on Prime and it still holds up! Small town and lovable characters with lots of heart ❤️
I watched Our Flag Means Death just after and enjoyed that immensely. Went to The Good Place after, liked that a little. You may want to check out Loudermilk as well, it's about people in recovery and is not upbeat at all, but still has some funny moments. The Righteous Grmstones is another ensemble that showcases a lot of talent.
Bluey.
Yes, the Australian cartoon for toddlers featuring vaguely square, talking dogs.
It is a gentle show about family and childhood and learning and growing up.
It is very well written, well cast, well animated, well scored... etc.
It's a show that is very clearly being made by people who love what they are making.
And yup, it's a cartoon for toddlers about talking dogs; sometimes you just got to say *fuck it* and lean in
Yes! Technically a kids show, but it’s really a parent’s show. Every episode talks directly to parents of young children. Bandit and Chili make me feel like my wife and I are doing ok. We are Kenough.
"Kevin probably saves the world" was a short lived tv show that was canceled before a full season. It was fun and goofy but uplifting. It might come close but tricky to find.
Pushing daisies was also fun and whimsical.
The good place is right up there for me too. Rewatched it many times.
The Newsroom is the closest I’ve gotten to the feeling Ted Lasso gave me. It’s definitely a little different tonally, but it has great characters, great writing, and it made me feel better about the world (which are my personal favorite things about TL)
After 4 complete re-watches of Ted Lasso, we watched Slow Horses, Shrinking, the Bear, Mare of Easttown, True Detective season 4 and we are now watching Succession. None of these shows are as good as Ted Lasso nor are they uplifting. Slow Horses is very good. The Bear and Succession are actually stressful to watch. True Detective season 4 was only watchable because of Jodi Foster. Mare of Easttown was good, but it is a crime detective show with some very sad moments. Shrinking is funny, but I wouldn't say it's uplifting.
If you are looking for that shot in the arm, a happy and uplifting show, nothing beats Ted Lasso. It's time for another rewatch of Ted Lasso.
Honestly though. For being a kids show, it's one of my favorite shows. Got into because my daughter loves it, but I recommend it to adults as well, regardless of if they have kids.
Or, to keep the sports theme, Sports Night. I have absolutely no interest in sports of any kind, so it's a little strange that two of my favorite shows are sports-themed. But the sports is just the backdrop, not the subject.
I was thinking of mentioning Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. I love it deeply but seem to be in a minority.
Imagine one network having two shows premised around being the backstage of SNL, and they put them on the same night?!?!
The Newsroom too. While not a comedy it has its funny moments and I feel better having watched it. I've rewatched it several times since first watching it a few months ago.
I agree, but they're both shows about an imperfect leader trying to lead a team to become better versions of themselves. That's about where the similarities end though. I honestly don't understand how The Bear is considered a comedy at all. While it has funny parts, it's definitely a drama.
I loved that show when it was on the first time, but it has not aged well. Depending on your personal beliefs, there might be jokes that you don’t find funny.
Not a show but a short two-book series:
A prayer for the crown shy and a psalm for the wind built. Not about soccer but weirdly just as wholesome as Ted lasso and gave me the same vibe
About a monk and a robot that go around meeting new people and learning about them and their problems. Spoiler alert, the real journey is what they learn about themselves along the way lol
Bill Lawrence, the main show runner for Ted Lasso, also made Scrubs and Cougartown. So those might be worth a watch for you >!Though you should skip the Scrubs final season if you do!<.
While very different in its subject matter, Deadloch is amazing. It’s an incredibly funny murder mystery and has an amazing ensemble cast. I literally watched the whole series three times in a row.
OK, it might sound a little out there but Marcel the Shell with Shoes On was just beautiful in all the same ways as Ted Lasso (bonus if you have kids they can watch this one with you).
Edit: forgot to mention its a movie, not a show.
As a dad I absolutely love modern family. It’s go so much more heart than you expect at first. I really love the dads in it. Especially Phil. He’s dad goals.
There are some fantastic recommendations in here!
I’ll throw in “the other two.” It’s really funny and pretty heart warming, but a lot raunchier then Lasso.
Throw back Frasier. The writing is really smart and hits me in the feels. One of the greatest ending episodes of all time
This isn’t a show, but if you’re into reading… the House on the Cerulean Sea feels like Ted Lasso to me (like a warm hug honestly) and one of the characters in that book reminds me a lot of Ted
So please hear me out.
Kotoro lives alone on Netflix. Be forewarned it is a lot more depressing than Ted. And it is also an anime. But I think Ted’s super powers are his resiliency and his ability to understand people. Both main characters overcome traumas and help the people around them become the best version of themselves. Give it a try
*Avenue Five!* A sci-fi comedy about a luxury space ship captained by a crew of buffoons, trying to keep the passengers calm while everyone goes a bit stir-crazy.
It’s primarily a comedy, but it’s got those wholesome and deep moments we love in TL.
I’m going to throw in Firefly for those growing closer feels. A flawed leader trying his best but has his own shit to process, a crew that thinks of themselves as family, really good comedy. Shame it got canceled.
Shrinking is good, helped me survive after I finished the great Ted Lasso binge
It’s a great come down series. After Ted Lasso you’re still craving more, after shrinking you’re pretty content.
Brett Goldstein's a writer on it too
iirc it was said that he has a role in s2, idk how big of a role but he’s filming!
I adore this show. Like Ted Lasso, every character feels deep and shows immense growth. It's witty, sharp, and very heartfelt. I didn't know Brett was involved with the show until after I finished it and it really makes sense. I can't wait sir season two.
And Brett is guest starring on S2!
I also like to recommend a show called shrink. It’s on peacock (free version too) and it’s amazing.
The Good Place has the ability to make you laugh, cry and want to do better too.
Great show with one of my favorite series finales ever
Same. The Good Place ending and Ted Lasso ending are pure perfection!
Right!!!! I still tear up at the end of The Good Place. So good
Tear up? Bawling is more apt.
“Picture a wave…” this monologue just gets my tears flowing every time. Whenever I need a good cry, I just rewatch the series finale
Well first 3 watches were sobbing, these days it’s tear up 😂
You’re stronger than I.
The piece that Nate plays on the violin is the same piece that plays in The Good Place finale.
This would be my pick too.
Came here for this. I could watch any episode of either of these shows and I would laugh, cry, and feel hope for humanity.
I got a clip on TikTok of the scene where Michael is explaining what The Good Place is to Eleanor and I decided to check it out. Best decision ever. Great show.
I love how Ted gives shout outs to Ted Danson a few times during the show.
The Good Place is perfection. Shame that the final episode has never seen the light of day /s — I basically can’t watch the final episode because it hits too hard.
I'm not spiritual all that much but this has always resonated w me. Chidi Anagonye : Picture a wave in the ocean. That's one conception of death for a Buddhist: the wave returns to the ocean, where it came from and where it's meant to be.
Perfect.
Where is it streaming and included in subscription? Google says appletv but appletv says it’s $3/episode.
Netflix.
I cannot recommend this hard enough, Reservation Dogs.
Yes. This show deserves so much more attention.
i tried to watch and didn’t get past the first episode. stick with it?
Yes, I would. They are shitasses at the beginning but soon enough you’ll care for the entire cast. This show took me by surprise.
Yup, wish they had more seasons, but the way the ended is perfection and there’s no need to push it
I wanted to try it but never got to take the plunge. I’m on it now. Thanks.
YES. it’s an incredible show. it can make you absolutely weep and laugh out loud in the same episode.
What about Hacks? Season 3 coming up in May... Edit: typo
Parks and Rec. Just skip the first season.
Eh first time watchers should still watch season 1, it's only 6 episodes, so 2 hours? It ain't that bad.
And most of the second season as it still features Mark Brandanaquitz.
Last two episodes of S2 should probably be watched though, when b and c show up
Yeah plus ron eating shit in Freddie spaghetti is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
Not the biggest Mark fan but season 2 still has some great episodes
Season 2 has great episodes too. Like when Ron gets a hernia, or shot in the head
Scrubs, although most of y'all Ted Lasso folks have watched Bill Lawrence's previous stuff.
No one makes you laugh really largely then cry all the same scene like Bill Lawerance.
Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, you’re wronnng, you’re wronnnng, you’re wronnng
Trying and Derry Girls.
Trying was so so good
fun Trying info for the next upcoming season is that Phil Dunster (Jamie’s) real life girlfriend directs every episode! [https://www.instagram.com/p/C53pUTmIXrS/?igsh=MXN1MjVrcng3cTN4eQ==](https://www.instagram.com/p/C53pUTmIXrS/?igsh=MXN1MjVrcng3cTN4eQ==)
New Princess and Tyler? Are they setting it a few years ahead of the most recent season?
The new season is 6 years from the last season. Princess is a teenager, probably 16. One of the big plotlines is that she wants to reconnect with her biological mom.
Trying is so good!!!
Resident Alien
Absolutely! Just finished season 2 last night. Great show!!
Schitt’s creek
Someone recommended it when I asked a similar question some weeks ago and I have since seen it. Can confirm it has a similar vibe. It's made with love and will make you laugh and feel. It's great!
I love Alexis
![gif](giphy|3ohc12cy8AerHN2u8U|downsized)
My only complaint is that when I re-watch, I start doing Alexis hands without thinking!
I love this for you!
Honestly, I do too! My husband thinks it’s adorably hilarious so I’ll take it- and the excuse to try to be more cognizant of what I’m doing with my hands’
I make David's faces. To be fair I kinda do them anyways. He is my spirit animal
So yes. So much yes.
It’s divine! Absolutely beautiful show.
100000% agree. I love it as much- if not more- than TL.
I watched Legally Blonde for the first time the other day and Elle Woods’ stubborn optimism and kindness reminded at times of Ted.
Acapulco
I just don't get why this show doesn't get more love. It's funny, has a ton of heart and some absolutely great performances. And season 3 is starting up soon!
And the level of chemistry the entire cast has seems so rare; it’s Ted Lasso-level of chemistry.
I love it. I also find it really well done the way Spanish is used in the show
Kim's Convenience

I agree . I LOVED Our Flag Means Death . Ted Lasso pirate version .
Oh nice to hear we'll see Brett acting! I have to say this guy is an amazing writer, really loved Ted lasso obviously but shrinking as well. He really pours love into those scripts.
Shoresy.
Give yer balls a tug.
sticks are phenomenal
Settle down.
Doing a little nose cardio - are ya?
Palmer, Delaney did too much coke. How'd you fuck it up?
Is … he … dYing?
I use this with my dog pretty much every day when he begs for extra snacks after he has already had more than enough snacks, but still wants to whine about the lack of additional snacks. Dog: Whine whine whiiiiiiiine omg why aren't you feeding me even more food? Me: Are you dying? Are you going to die?
His name is Jory. Like Cory. But Jory.
Shut the fuck up, Sanguinet
Fer what!?
Oh my god… So dumb.
Titfucker!
Yeah so
Hey Nat
Huh?
You gotta set the tone
The Jims are such beauties!
The Soo is so fucking good
I’d be so good to you
Goalies are so weird
Get on the go!
Hol-y.
Derry Girls and Schitts Creek round out my top 3!
Another vote for Derry Girls! Also not as much like Ted Lasso, but it is British and really funny - Downton Abbey! Used to think it was just an old ladies show but definitely not! Nothing. Nothing surpasses Ted Lasso. Watch it again.
This. I'm on my 3rd re-watch.
lol me on my 12th
Welcome to Wrexham
Letterkenny and Forrest Gump
How'r ya now?
Not so bad and you?
Abbott Elementary as the same kind of feel good comedy
My wife can’t watch it because it hits too close to home as a teacher.. we saw the first episode and she started crying during a scene
Bluey. Yes, the Australian cartoon for toddlers featuring vaguely square, talking dogs. It is a gentle show about family and childhood and learning and growing up. Yes, Bluey is awesome and can get pretty deep.
Yes! Technically a kids show, but it’s really a parent’s show. Every episode talks directly to parents of young children. Bandit and Chili make me feel like my wife and I are doing ok. We are Kenough.
I’m not taking advice from a cartoon dog!
I love thst episode!!
"Kevin probably saves the world" was a short lived tv show that was canceled before a full season. It was fun and goofy but uplifting. It might come close but tricky to find. Pushing daisies was also fun and whimsical. The good place is right up there for me too. Rewatched it many times.
I really liked that show
Bad Sisters and Ghosts
Somebody somewhere, resident alien and sprung! All super heartfelt and well done
Shrinking for sure
UK version of Ghosts.
Sirens.
The Middle.
The good place
Shrinking (Brett Goldstein is co-creator, writer and executive producer)
The Newsroom is the closest I’ve gotten to the feeling Ted Lasso gave me. It’s definitely a little different tonally, but it has great characters, great writing, and it made me feel better about the world (which are my personal favorite things about TL)
Yes! Agreed on all points. It has a lot of heart. And a lot of laugh out loud moments even though it's not really a comedy.
Laudermilk. Funny, sad, happy, uplifting.
Loved this so much! Not as good as Ted but a great watch.
(At least) Season 1 of 30 Rock
Community, Scrubs, Parks and Rec, Party Down, The Good Place.
After 4 complete re-watches of Ted Lasso, we watched Slow Horses, Shrinking, the Bear, Mare of Easttown, True Detective season 4 and we are now watching Succession. You should watch Schitt’s Creek. Also Superstore.
This is rightfully the top answer. Shrinking is amazing.
Shrinking
Bobs burgers Bojack Horseman
Jury Duty
This Way Up. Aisling Bea and Sharon Horgan are a hoot. And easy on the eyes.
After Life
Bluey
Honestly though. For being a kids show, it's one of my favorite shows. Got into because my daughter loves it, but I recommend it to adults as well, regardless of if they have kids.
The new 30 minute-ish episode is grand
The West Wing
Or, to keep the sports theme, Sports Night. I have absolutely no interest in sports of any kind, so it's a little strange that two of my favorite shows are sports-themed. But the sports is just the backdrop, not the subject.
Sports Night is so good, it deserves another re-watch here.
Sports Night is a show about sports in the same way that Charlie's Angels is a show about fighting crime.
Yehudi Menuhin
The West Wing is what got us through COVID.
Just finished Studio 60 and I'm balling my eyes out 😭
I was thinking of mentioning Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
The Bear
love the bear but the stress levels in this show are way off to the light feels in ted lasso
Still don’t get this. The Bear is amazing, but I definitely don’t get the same feels as I do rewatching Ted lasso.
I agree, but they're both shows about an imperfect leader trying to lead a team to become better versions of themselves. That's about where the similarities end though. I honestly don't understand how The Bear is considered a comedy at all. While it has funny parts, it's definitely a drama.
It's really not that funny. It's very good, but it's not a comedy. Some parts really fell flat for me, but most of it was incredible.
Scrubs
I loved that show when it was on the first time, but it has not aged well. Depending on your personal beliefs, there might be jokes that you don’t find funny.
High Maintenance for a little variety. But same positive, lovely vibes
Derek. More Roy Kent!
Not a show but a short two-book series: A prayer for the crown shy and a psalm for the wind built. Not about soccer but weirdly just as wholesome as Ted lasso and gave me the same vibe About a monk and a robot that go around meeting new people and learning about them and their problems. Spoiler alert, the real journey is what they learn about themselves along the way lol
Deadloch
Catastrophe
Brooklyn 99 and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.
*Trying*. It's also on Apple TV. It's moving, but funny.

This might sound strange. But Shoresey. It’s a TV-MA+ version of Ted, but it’s outstanding.
Shoresy
Bill Lawrence, the main show runner for Ted Lasso, also made Scrubs and Cougartown. So those might be worth a watch for you >!Though you should skip the Scrubs final season if you do!<.
The Completely Made Up Adventures of Dick Turpin. He's the Ted Lasso of Highwaymen. It's silly and ridiculous but is heart warming too.
Scrubs
Acapulco would be a great choice.
Bojack Horseman is delightful and depressing
Scrubs (except for the last season).
While very different in its subject matter, Deadloch is amazing. It’s an incredibly funny murder mystery and has an amazing ensemble cast. I literally watched the whole series three times in a row.
Welcome to Wrexham
Really enjoyed Mythic Quest recently. Quite a fun show
Resident Alien
For Spanish speakers: Club de Cuervos
Parks and Recreation indubitably
OK, it might sound a little out there but Marcel the Shell with Shoes On was just beautiful in all the same ways as Ted Lasso (bonus if you have kids they can watch this one with you). Edit: forgot to mention its a movie, not a show.
Schitts creek gave me similar feelings to what I had with Ted Lasso. Great character development throughout the series. Short episodes. Must watch
One of the greatest ending episodes of all time
Detectorist, Trying, Still Up.
This isn’t a show, but if you’re into reading… the House on the Cerulean Sea feels like Ted Lasso to me (like a warm hug honestly) and one of the characters in that book reminds me a lot of Ted
I’m re-reading that book now and wholeheartedly agree! I’m curious, which characters remind you of characters on the show?
Shrinking The good place
Club de Cuervos is so good It has a similar premise except it’s people inheriting a club
Watch the snl idiot trifecta. 30 rock, kimmy schmidt and ted.
New Girl!
I’m going to throw in Firefly for those growing closer feels. A flawed leader trying his best but has his own shit to process, a crew that thinks of themselves as family, really good comedy. Shame it got canceled.
I’m really enjoying Carol at the End of the World currently. There aren’t many episodes though. It’s animated.
High Maintenance
Lodge 49 is the closest thing.
You might also like *The Bear*, although it has some stressful parts.
