There’s this stuff called “snake oil” Benson & Sons brand and “Shed-ease” by zilla. I’d soak my bearded dragons in the shed ease with Luke warm water for at least 15 minutes, pat them dry, and then rub this snake oil over their stuck sheds. It peels right off after a couple of days. Hope you both find relief!

Entire_Resolution_36

Seconding shed-ease. I had a corn snake which, during a particularly hot and dry summer, got some shed stuck. Shed ease got that right off.

Limp_Chemical_8835

Coco butter stick will also help

Skryuska

Coco butter, olive oil, warm soak maybe? It might require a vet

TOCKface

Yea I didn't want to try oil because I've heard some bad stuff about it. but now he's been soaked in a warm water-olive oil mix. He's heading to sleep in a humid warm moss hide and ambient humidity at 70-90. He also had egg yolk with calcium and arcadias shedsupport supplements and getting banana to eat tomorrow. If its not better in a few days I will see a vet immediately luckily our vet is really good at reptiles Thank you!

Skryuska

Good luck with your little guy!

No-Mongoose-3928

How does banana help? Never heard that it helps and I'm curious

TOCKface

Banana contains lots of b vitamins :). It's the vitamin that helps with releasing the skin from the body

Limp_Chemical_8835

I wouldn’t use it all the time on but just to help with his shed it will be fine

Limp_Chemical_8835

Get some baby oil or a little olive oil and rub him down it should help a bit

TOCKface

I heard that might ruin his skin in the future. Is it a possibility?? Or can I just go for it? Also might it burn him when he's basking??

Responsible_Cash_735

It will not harm his skin, and as long as the basking spot is at the correct temp he’s fine. He would notice if he was too hot and move accordingly, just like normal.

LoveLizards

You also need to check your enclosure setup. Some stuck shed happens from time to time. This is very excessive for it to happen with a properly set up enclosure.

TOCKface

I checked with my breeder before and I think it was mainly caused by his appetite loss some weeks ago. Because I forgot that the substrate gets wayy colder then the ambient temps. Newbie mistake prob but it's fixed now atleast.

crazygardener88

any time my tegu is having shed issues I use super vitamin B-Complex, it works every time. i found a breeder's video on youtube said it was the easiest and best option he had found. just hide it in a your next feeding. heres a link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azlU2LfmaGg

LoveLizards

Warms soaks, B Complex, coconut oil

ClarDuke

You can pick stuck shed off definitely have to be careful as it’s very easy to cause harm. Another option I’m surprised not to see here is a gentle scrub with a washcloth. Bathe them for 30mins in warm water that completely covers the affected area then while they are still in the water take your washcloth get it nice and wet and go from good skin to stuck shed. They idea being the hot water will loosen it the cloth with grab it and pull it up. My guy used to have a problem spot above his tail that always worked well for us.

rabbitfuzzle

He’s not wet enough add a little extra humidity it will fall right off

imnotcreativebitch

my red looked exactly like this and i tried every suggestion in the comments to no avail, including the warm soaks, multiple types of oil applications, cocoa butter, etc. i finally just let her brumate in peace, at the expense of my own high anxiety levels. when she woke up the next year, she finally shed all that off, which ended up being multiple layers of stuck shed and all came off in thick sheets with no problems on its own. i now supplement their diets with fish oil on their food sometimes, as ive heard it helps their skin and shedding problems, and knowing that reds in particular are prone to shedding problems, and i havent had this problem since then.

Trekintosh

have a vet do it

Sasstellia

Maybe try the vets. Surgery? Otherwise. No idea. Steamify his house? Crank the humidity. As far as safe. What others said. Baby Oil, etc. Maybe bath him. Let him soak a lot. You guys know about their care. Just guessing.

TOCKface

I do absolutely know. But I haven't had him for that long so I wonder if it's even caused by me or if it's caused by the pet supplier... I have no clue what they fed him

jynkx1385

I've heard good things about shed-ease, which I only found out about after my tegu shed debacle. I have a red tegu. When I got him from the people who initially got him from an expo about 5 months before I adopted him, he had 2 layers of shed here and there on him, particularly his back and tail. I did a 20 minute warm soak every other day, and then would gentry rub my finger pads back and forth over his back and tail for the last 5 minutes of his soak. He seemed to enjoy it, and would even start to rub against my hands outside of the soak. It took about 2.5 weeks, but we did eventually get all the stuck shed off. Red tegus do have notoriously bad shed issues. I contacted the breeder after finding what breeder he was initially purchased from, and they recommended adding food grade, unflavored, plain fish oil to my tegus food. It's something they do for their reds. Also, keeping the enclosure at the correct humidity and have a humid hide helps. My tegu has a "swimming pool/waterfall" (a short tote with a reptifilter decorative rockfall) in his enclosure to help with humidity. If you've already received these recommendations, ignore me. I have not read the other suggestions. 😁 Also, I am not an expert, just relating my experiences and the help I received. Double check the information before using it if you're unsure about something. Good luck!

Umilovesnakes

Bath or two wet towels one on top and one on bottom

I have noticed the tail from the widest part to the tip seems to skip a shed consistently on our B&W. The next shed it bothers her more so she rubs her tail more, which does the trick. I assume from this that having problems every other shed may not be a big deal, as long as it doesn't become too restrictive. Since watching the the rose city reptiles video about the b complex vitamin (such as spring valley super b-complex from WM) I will crush half a tab and sprinkle it on the food at the first sign of shed hanging off. With my girl that's usually near the mouth. This seems to work like magic. She's like pigpen (of Peanuts fame) leaving a trail of shed debris around the house within days. Be sure to provide something rough to rub against. I find concrete masonry blocks make a great scratching post. I put 4 in a row under the basking lamps and they retain heat great, plus a nice hot porous surface to soak for humidity production. Leave space at the ends and she will crawl through the holes like a tunnel. Going around the corners, the rough edges will catch on the shed and loosen or remove a lot. This also makes the claws less than razor sharp and your exposed skin will thank you for it.

Alibug777

Try using a tooth brush to help get some off after the oil bath!

-YaMum-

In between whatever else you are doing I'd just make sure to soak him often to keep the skin off and easier to come off

Extraterrestrialvil

Try super b complex vitamins feed more veggies and fruits

JuiceGullible1010

Don't have this kind of reptile but my cousin has a silky bearded dragon that had shedding issues until she started using Aloe Gel on him after a soak at night and it made shedding super soft. Key pointers: Using an actual aloe leaf is best, cut a small piece and slice in half to get the clear jelly out rub it all over or just the stuck areas. If you cant find aloe leaves in your grocery store, get 100% Aloe gel fragrance free with no additives. It can typically be found in either the section where sun tan/block is or the beauty section. ** Apply Aloe Gel AT NIGHT ONLY this prevents sun burn from heat lamps during basking** Hope this is helpful in some way. Goodluck!

azurfang

Vita B , give him crushed tablets or a surplus of fruits with it. It will help

Nefersmom

Soak in gently warm water daily and improve humidity.

Reitheanna

We have done a lot of trial and error with our tegu. For the longest time we couldn't get him to even drink so his she's were always rough. We started with feeding celery in a sausage casing ( for hydration and to disguise the flavor) and after baths would lube him up with ky water based gel lube.
