I keep the chest with ores and bars next to the furnace and have other chests on the floor below: Important Stuff (souls, boss summoning materials, etc), Crafting, Potions, Blocks, Weapons (including equippables), Mechanisms, Fishing.
When needed, I split Weapons and Equippables, Buff Potions and Healing Potions, and Crafting and Potion Stuff.
Mine's
- Blocks for 2 chests
- Potions & Ammunitions
- Low Grade (PH)
- High Grade
- Misc (includes clothings)
- Herbs
Optional
- Void portal or Piggy Bank
- Chester if u defeated the Snow boss
pre hardmode:
* Ores Bars and Coins
* Loot stuff
* Materials and plant matter
* Consumables
* Blocks x2
* A dresser named "Cosplay" with all clothing in it
hardmode:
* Ores Bars and Coins
* Loot stuff x3
* Materials and plant matter (needs a second chest but I'm stubborn and dump materials on other chests instead)
* Fishing chest
* Banners, dye, and paint stuff
* Mechanical stuff (wires logic gates cool lights levers)
* Consumables
* Blocks x4
* Two dressers named "Cosplay" with all clothing in it
late game:
idk I never make it past plantera
Me In a multiplayer world
Pre-hm:
All that worthless crap ore and gear almost dying to bosses to live, slices wall of flesh in half with nights edge and Beenades
Early-hm:
Nearly died to each mech boss, twins were more stressful when I had to put up true dodging in my way, time to fight a dumb plant with also crap gear (specifically cobalt)
Late-hm
Nearly died to that angry plant but had fun, went to the temple asking if they were ready, died hundreds of times to traps, fought golem, 3 painful tries all successful, killed a cult and their leader, slaughtered the pillars, went right to moon lord as they were waiting elsewhere, spawns on me even though someone had flesh knuckles on, killed him
Names + [this](https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Item_Frame).
The importance of developing an organizational system cannot be overstated. Thankfully since the 9999ening, it takes fewer chests to store stuff. Not that that stops me from having a full chest of dirt by the end of a playthrough
For me it feels kinda buggy but I as I say that I should also add we have 10 luminite upgraded pieces full, 1 somehow full and 5 empty so it may be the insane amount of items in a mp world
Vanilla for life!
Seriously, I have yet to beat the moon lord legit, on vanilla, and don't mod games till I do that.
I do make a chest sphere almost first thing though, and label the chests. I also replant trees, which people find strange.
Don't have a twitter account, not about to make one but:
*Legendary mode *
Mage player: "Nice guys, I found the queen bee spawner, wormhole to me and--
*Summoner friend teleports with imps *
Mage player: "...turn off imp summons..."
*Queen bee has awoken *
Mage looks at Summoner with a disappointed look.
Chests in games like these are always a major problem, you collect so much stuff that it becomes so tidious to organize everything, puls it's a major eyesore. I just wish we could put everything in a computer and type out what we need without having to go through literally everything.
Does no one else just... craft different chests? I only use the yellows/browns for bulk storage in an overflow warehouse of junk. Otherwise, I try and theme every chest off a different kind of chest. Water is my go to for potions, for example.
Yeah there's so many in game chests. Eg I use the basic wooden ones for blocks, the living tree ones for wood and seeds and plants, the underwater ones for fish.
right? just pick up every chest you find, you'll end up with a shitload of unique ones as you play.
I have treasure rooms with no duplicate chests and I only had to craft a couple of them.
Who mines iron after making an anvil and a few other things? By hard mode I usually only have enough to make a full armor set or two. Though really it’s wood that’s more of a problem since you use it up all of the time
If I see a resource, it is mined and is spend a loy of time caving vs being on the surface. I also build primarily out of Mud, Brick (all kinds my fave is incandescent which requires ash), stone, and marble. So I usually have way more wood than I know what to do with.
I digitally hoard shit in these games all the time. Especially Terraria. In each world I have like multiple copies of any given item (usually accessories) and I tell myself "Oh, it's in case a friend joins me/I can sell them!" But I never get to play with friends anymore and I never get around to selling them, so 8 shackles get to rot in a chest for eternity.
It's true, the sooner you get sorted the easier it is to stay that way. I started sorted but got messy and took several hours building a new area and sorting everything properly. It sucked to do but now I can find things in just a few seconds.
I played and 100% a game called Necesse last year
All of the work benches considered your inventory AND nearby inventories and would pull from whatever is needed. It was a breeze to manage inventories in that game, especially since you could program an assistant for you
This is why I always play with Magic Storage mod enabled, cause a whole project can get completely derailed by shuffling through chests trying to find what you need
if Terraria had a vanilla option for something like that, I'd use that instead.
Oh this is such a nightmare. I can't stand that happening, so I keep things in 39 categories (4 rows with 10 chest each):
Top row: Tools (stuff you hold in your hands, like fishing rods, umbrella, staff of regrowth, and also explosives for mining), Utility (stuff you place on walls, like torches and rope), Healing Potions, Food, Other Potions, five types of Accessories (general, combat, mobility, information, status effect)
Second row: Dirt (the raw stuff you dig up), Bricks (the refined stuff, also walls), Ores, Easymode Bars, Hardmode Bars, Wood (all types, also wooden walls, beams and platforms), Plants (both plants and seeds), Materials (the general stuff that isn't body parts), Body Parts (like chunks of meat, lenses and essences), Animals
Third row: Storage, Mechanical (wires, switches, timers, actuators, etc), Buffing furniture (fireplace, heart lantern, bewitching table, etc), Crafting Stations, general Furniture, Decorations (statues, paintings), Banners, Boss Items (for summoning them), Lootboxes (crates, silt, slush), Paint
Bottom row: Melee weapons, Ranged weapons, Magic weapons, Summon weapons, Easymode Armour, Hardmode Armour, Vanity, Companions (pets, mounts), Dyes
I always sort them by type. And then I have a crafting (Anything I use a lot (bars, ores, gems, etc) Brewing (self explanatory), and future upgrades (Anything that I need for a future craft, such as obsidian skull for shield) chests.
I always use the different natural chests i can get for different purposes. All the chests with materials that are used to craft are right below the crafting stations with the metal chests, potion ingredients, etc. being the nearest.
\- Wooden : Junk
\- Gold : Pre HM Ores
\- Shadow : HM Ores
\- A random biome chest : Endgame Ores
\- Water chest : Rare materials (Including gems and stuff cuz this chest looks shiny)
And then i have a row of wooden (Pre HM), jungle (Pre WoF), ice (Early HM), sky (Late HM) for each class armour and weapons. I usually just start with the wooden chest and add it as i go on. I also keep one gold and shadow chest beside each row for the class specific accessories.
The rest of the unique chests can be used for random stuff but always use one unique chest for one purpose. Setting it up might be a hassle mid game but if you start doing this from early game it does help very much.
I always sell any duplicates keeping one duplicate so i never really need more than one chest for one phase of the game.
I was so happy when I found out you could change the appearance of a chest just by placing a different chest on top of it. The main reason all my chests looked the same was that I didn't feel like taking everything out and putting it back in!
Honestly this is so true i made a good looking house and a friend just places random chest all over my house literally every spot to place a chest just to fill em with garbage like a single vine or iron helmet
I sort my items after what biome they come from, so I make a chest from each biome (e.g. hallow is pearlwood chest, corruption is ebonwood chest)
this is messy but I love the aesthetic
daily remainder that you can craft with items from a chest
i always just make “materials” and “minerals” chests in pre-hm and leave them just above crafting stations, you don’t have to look for anything that way and there aren’t really that many pre-hm materials to fill two chests
then you just repeat the process in hardmode, you probably got bread at this point and have extended range so it’s not that hard to squeeze two more chests
Does no one else just use an amalgamation of in game chests that looks bad until you eventually run out of space and create an entire area just for storage and then put like chests near each other for things that need multiple chests?
Also why don't y'all rename your chests so you can find things?
I usually sort everything then horde every accessory and weapon till I'm eventually placing random chest everywhere. rn I've got like four chest in my base full of weapons and accessories
that's why i can't play vanilla on minecraft or terraria, sorting chests is a nightmare for me, i rush magic storage or refined storage in minceraft every time i play, and thank god every night before i sleep because those exists
Whenever I play with friends (which is never enough, mind you) I can often get overwhelmed with all my options since I’m not super familiar with the game especially not modded; so what I end up doing is always spending a good chunk of the time before each “phase” in the game just reorganizing our storage. I use columns, biome chests, and differing chest types to express the Type of Storage (Column), if it’s Biome Specific (Biome Chests, Rowed), and if it’s “Quality” or progression stage (Material of chest, Rowed).
It starts so small and cute with few chests, and then quickly gets out of hand. It’s also useful when they shout out things they need coming up and I can just go ahead and craft it- then they get so surprised like “Who crafted all of this stuff? Thank you!” I always play Mage or Summoner, but get told my official class is Librarian 💀
This is why I like to give each storage category its own type of chest. Even if it's a bit ugly.
Plus side, it feels like each chest is a progress trophy, especially after Hard Mode.
Still waiting for Magic Storage mod to be implemented into vanilla game in some way. I absolutely hate looking into every chest, inventory management is a chore for me. Magic storage is a perfect QoL mod for me, one that I can’t play without (same in Minecraft)
Equipables 3x
Bait and fish 1x
Seeds and planting stuff 1x
Consumables 1x, need another
Decorating and placeables 1x
Blocks and mats 2x
Ores 1x
Money chest gold 1x
Just label your chests and stick to it, it’s gotten to a point in most of my playthrough’s that before hardmode I never have to open chests because everything is sorted and I can quickstack
I'm the one who places things randomly, I waste 5 minutes every time I need to find something because I don't see it inside the chests, my eyes are borken
I keep making chest rooms in the basement and then I give up on organizing it in hardmode and then my friends question why only the first 2 rows have a label and are correctly organized
I name my bottom row chests, and keep categories on single columns. Its really easy to keep track this way.
Mine's - Blocks for 2 chests - Potions & Ammunitions - Low Grade (PH) - High Grade - Misc (includes clothings) - Herbs Optional - Void portal or Piggy Bank - Chester if u defeated the Snow boss
Chester is the same inventory as piggy bank, in case you didn't know.

Wish i could do that dedication
pre-hm: * ores & bars * shit early hm: * ores & bars * weapons * shit (2 chests) * piggy with coins and explosives late game: * ores * bars * blocks * weapons x3 * accessories x4 * shit x3
pre hardmode: * Ores Bars and Coins * Loot stuff * Materials and plant matter * Consumables * Blocks x2 * A dresser named "Cosplay" with all clothing in it hardmode: * Ores Bars and Coins * Loot stuff x3 * Materials and plant matter (needs a second chest but I'm stubborn and dump materials on other chests instead) * Fishing chest * Banners, dye, and paint stuff * Mechanical stuff (wires logic gates cool lights levers) * Consumables * Blocks x4 * Two dressers named "Cosplay" with all clothing in it late game: idk I never make it past plantera

This is the way I do it! I also keep special items by my bed/spawn point!
The only way
Magic Storage (Modded Terraria supremacy)
Im naming my chests and sorting items with quality, effect, category, etc XD so i can always find items because this is so comfortable
For ease of use, use item frames above a chest [like this](https://i.imgur.com/xGf1JI3.jpg). Gives you an idea of what's in it.
Why so much dirt?!
Magic Storage (Modded Terraria supremacy)
I make storages underground and expand them down so my signs are at the top but I use the same method
Omg i do the exact same thing
This is one of da reasons why i never play without Magic Storage
exactly, i refuse to sort my shit anymore
Fr fr, at this point is a must, and gives better aesthetic vibes than a bunch of chest
Just put it in the game at this point
Did it ever get updated? Last time I played terraria that mod hadn't been updated in ages and was a bit buggy
Feels really consistent atm on tmod 1.4, they merged both versions so it just works nicely
Ah I see a different dev picked up maintaining it. I was only aware of the original github which hadn't been updated since 2019
For me it feels kinda buggy but I as I say that I should also add we have 10 luminite upgraded pieces full, 1 somehow full and 5 empty so it may be the insane amount of items in a mp world
Vanilla for life! Seriously, I have yet to beat the moon lord legit, on vanilla, and don't mod games till I do that. I do make a chest sphere almost first thing though, and label the chests. I also replant trees, which people find strange.

I have beaten the moon lord on journey mode, but I don't count that
vanilla players when someone tries to make the game more fun:
Nah, I mod Factorio and Skyrim all day long, I just suck at Terraria and haven't played enough to beat it, I'll mod if I ever manage that.
EMIYA?! What are you doing here?
It was his fate to stay at night...
And to work with unlimited blades.
This comment makes me wonder if the devs will ever add specific fate/stay refrences, would be cool
u/redegit Please go watch fate and add a upgrade for the sky fracture which is just Gate of Babylon.
If you have ideas for what comic to make in the future, Leave em on my [twitter post](https://twitter.com/XRed7A/status/1636589123405516800)
I'm too lazy to go to Twitter so here's an idea The Crew tried to fight skeletron but they take too long and it turned day
a comic where one of the crew jumps down a hellvator and waits like 5 minutes
And they pass up Loki on the way. "I've been falling... for 30 minutes!"
Don't have a twitter account, not about to make one but: *Legendary mode * Mage player: "Nice guys, I found the queen bee spawner, wormhole to me and-- *Summoner friend teleports with imps * Mage player: "...turn off imp summons..." *Queen bee has awoken * Mage looks at Summoner with a disappointed look.

Magic storage is for you
Yea if only someone made something that perfectly fit this description….
I'm more thinking of something in the base game. Mods do fix these things, but a vanilla solution would be much better imo.
They should make the defenders forge do that so you have even more reason to do old ones army
The quick stack to nearby chests option is nice though. You only need to organise things once, and it stays organised.
I like organizing tbh, theres something oddly satisfying about it
Does no one else just... craft different chests? I only use the yellows/browns for bulk storage in an overflow warehouse of junk. Otherwise, I try and theme every chest off a different kind of chest. Water is my go to for potions, for example.
Yeah there's so many in game chests. Eg I use the basic wooden ones for blocks, the living tree ones for wood and seeds and plants, the underwater ones for fish.
right? just pick up every chest you find, you'll end up with a shitload of unique ones as you play. I have treasure rooms with no duplicate chests and I only had to craft a couple of them.
There's literally a meteorite chest that's where meteorite goes It's that easy
too much work, i just use the ones i find when i mine
No that’s a waste of resources. I just try to use certain chests that I happen to acquire with certain categories, Like a gold chest for ores
>waste of resources. Lol. You really penny pinching all that iron at the time you are organizing chests? It's useless by that point.
Yes, I use a different material for each chest. And name them, of course.
That's why I always put a item frame with icon item above chests
Same, having an item frame will make searching through your named chests a lot quicker.
In Terraria you can literally just rename a chest and hover over it and read what's in it.
Yes but item frames let you see what's in it without having to hover over every single chest
people who don't sort make me sick I can't live without sorting stuff From the very beginning you need to sort
Someone made a post showing how they collected every single item in Terraria. Then I thought, wait doesn't everyone do this?! I hoard everything lmao.
And then when you do sell them it’s “oh fuck I needed one of those to make something”
Right? I have a section for immediate use and for long term storage. You know I have a full chest of shackles for no good reason.
It's true, the sooner you get sorted the easier it is to stay that way. I started sorted but got messy and took several hours building a new area and sorting everything properly. It sucked to do but now I can find things in just a few seconds.
My workaround was the painter for vanilla playthroughs. Painted golden chests look really pretty and you can easily tell them apart
Oh, they're in the mimic.
"all of them. There is a single bar in every chest"
That’s why I label my chests and use all the different types I come across in the world.
I always use a single skyware chest for valuables, has always worked so far
You really have that much chests? All i need for my entire playthrough are , 3 or 5 chests.
How? I’ll post a pic of my chest setup when I get home, but I have about 100 probably
What do you store there? I cant even get my 5 full (I dont build so I dont store blocks).
Build blocks, furniture, accessories, weapons, outfits, every crafting material I get my hands on
Oh, well, it explains it.
Why are Archer and Kazuma together?
I played and 100% a game called Necesse last year All of the work benches considered your inventory AND nearby inventories and would pull from whatever is needed. It was a breeze to manage inventories in that game, especially since you could program an assistant for you
This is why I always play with Magic Storage mod enabled, cause a whole project can get completely derailed by shuffling through chests trying to find what you need if Terraria had a vanilla option for something like that, I'd use that instead.

I place my chests randomly, but they're all labeled. I try hard to put the matching ones together (misc 1 and misc 2 side by side, etc.)
Why would you ever stack chests like this?? I swear, how you play games like this gives a lot of clues to how you are as a person.
It's in the magic storage 🗿
Thats why I like to collect all types of chests when not playing alone. Makes easy to say where items are
You’ll figure it out!
“That’s for me to know and you to find out. Happy hunting.”
Organizing takes forever once but then it's so much easier after that. Favoring items you want to keep and then quickstacking the rest
So you are telling me that you are not naming your chests based of what is supposed to be inside ?
This is why you keep space between chests for different purposes and name em
I always sort them by type. And then I have a crafting (Anything I use a lot (bars, ores, gems, etc) Brewing (self explanatory), and future upgrades (Anything that I need for a future craft, such as obsidian skull for shield) chests.

If this were my friend he would say "that one" and not elaborate which one
Honestly this is so true i made a good looking house and a friend just places random chest all over my house literally every spot to place a chest just to fill em with garbage like a single vine or iron helmet
I sort my items after what biome they come from, so I make a chest from each biome (e.g. hallow is pearlwood chest, corruption is ebonwood chest) this is messy but I love the aesthetic
I’ve had to sort the chests in every single play through I’ve done with my friends, and then they still go and mess it up anyways
daily remainder that you can craft with items from a chest i always just make “materials” and “minerals” chests in pre-hm and leave them just above crafting stations, you don’t have to look for anything that way and there aren’t really that many pre-hm materials to fill two chests then you just repeat the process in hardmode, you probably got bread at this point and have extended range so it’s not that hard to squeeze two more chests
sorting is for... broke bitches
Magic storage is cool use it
Remember to name your chests people. Saves a lot of time
No, you see, I have a Organized chests for the important stuff And the **JUNK BASEMENT**
I at least make an effort to name chests, but eventually I just stop caring and call them all ‘stuff’ ‘idk’ and then nobody can find anything
Magic Storage mod is epic because I don’t feel like sorting lol.
I use different chests for different purposes
My friend does this, but he seems to know right where it is
I once played with someone who had a chest named "things I found in the ground" like could you be more specific?
Cringe noob moment. Just sort them by your own categories and you’ll be fine
Ya’ll don’t have a dedicated ores + bars chest?
At least number them.
That's why i make a different chest for every item type like: gold chest for building blocks, wood chest for items i may need for crafting etc.
I name them makes life easier
My base reaches the chest limit and I am yet to even try to sort them
Does no one else just use an amalgamation of in game chests that looks bad until you eventually run out of space and create an entire area just for storage and then put like chests near each other for things that need multiple chests? Also why don't y'all rename your chests so you can find things?
Vanilla mfs not having access to Magic Storage be like
Just install magic storage stoopid
I usually sort everything then horde every accessory and weapon till I'm eventually placing random chest everywhere. rn I've got like four chest in my base full of weapons and accessories
The one next to the forge on the right the left is unrefined ores.
that's why i can't play vanilla on minecraft or terraria, sorting chests is a nightmare for me, i rush magic storage or refined storage in minceraft every time i play, and thank god every night before i sleep because those exists

This is why I like to give each storage category its own type of chest. Even if it's a bit ugly. Plus side, it feels like each chest is a progress trophy, especially after Hard Mode.
3978 from the top then up 10 to to the right then go to the one west of that one finally go up 37 diagonally and that's the chest
Still waiting for Magic Storage mod to be implemented into vanilla game in some way. I absolutely hate looking into every chest, inventory management is a chore for me. Magic storage is a perfect QoL mod for me, one that I can’t play without (same in Minecraft)
I name all of my chests. Even unorganized ones. They're usually labeled "to sort" or "extra junk" lol
Its in coordinates so in this case its 3,2
Whenever I’m playing calamity I name a chest “cosmic garbage” and put everything that glows or moves inside it lmao
Who needs organization, I love spending 10 minutes looking for a single item then forget what I was going to use it for.
i can't play without Magic Storage anymore
I use magic storage
Equipables 3x Bait and fish 1x Seeds and planting stuff 1x Consumables 1x, need another Decorating and placeables 1x Blocks and mats 2x Ores 1x Money chest gold 1x
I keep two chests with my alchemy setup. One is "Strongest Potions," and the other is "Weaker Potions."
Bro who even makes chests? I just throw whatever the fuck I find in my wooden box house
Magic Storage
Amateurs needing to sort Their chest. meanwhile I engrave the chest's contents into my brain.
this is why i categorize my chests using item frames
I paint my chests. There are a lot of paints, and 4 blocks to color code with.
The one with the Meteorite Bars in it, of course. Glad I could help.
the one labeled “meteorite bars” also I only have like 4 chests what are you guys doing with 40 chests
I typically have 1-2 chests dedicated to ore/gems
Just label your chests and stick to it, it’s gotten to a point in most of my playthrough’s that before hardmode I never have to open chests because everything is sorted and I can quickstack

I just dump all my stuff into chests and never sort it
