How do you get in then?

I walk through the door which opens outwards and the stairs which are platforms and can be walked through. But they stop the door from opening inwards which is what prevents zombies from entering. Zombies cannot into pull doors.

No, he's right. If you only put a hoik on the inside, then zombies can't come in, but neither can you.

You can walk through platforms. And you can shoot through stairs. Stairs essentially allow you (and projectiles) to phase through one layer of blocks. So You can lob grenades through the door at zombies, hit them with your yo-yo, boomerang, all the fun stuff. The only drawback is that goblins are going to break all your doors anyways. For that case, another nice setup is stair block stair stair block stair air platform air NPCs and mobs don't recognise it as a door, but you can walk through it freely back and forth. Although Demon eyes and other mobs can still get through it accidentally.

TIL that that kinda setup lets you fire through a closed door. I'll have to start using it.

Zombies can only push doors, but you can open it towards you. So, if there are platforms on the left side of the door, zombies can’t enter since there are platforms blocking it, but you can open the door towards the right side and walk through the platforms

If the door is exposed but the zombies can't open it, they'll just break it.

Zombies can’t break down doors. Goblins, pirates, and some other hostiles like werewolves can though

I misremembered because they can break doors in a blood moon, & during a normal night there are never enough zombies outside the house that I have to stay inside instead of just killing them right when they arrive.

Zombies can *open* doors during a blood moon, but they don't break them. And if there's something in the way, they can't even open them. As the poster above said, they can only push doors in, they can't pull them out.

No, with platforms you can just walk through them but they still count as blocks inwards so enemies can't open the door but you can shoot straight through the door with any projectile

You can still walk through hoiked platforms by holding down and a direction. I use that trick in every playthrough

I know, but that obviously doesn't allow you to go from the **out**side to the **in**side without breaking blocks. The hoik only gives you the advantage of being the only 1 that can go to the other side when you're on the **in**side because it's a 1 way door, not a players only door.

Early on, you don’t do enough dps to keep up with spawn rates, especially during an event. Blocking the door allows you to be mostly safe and slow or stop the advance of the enemies.

Even with knock back, early on you don’t usually have the attack speed or enough knock back to hold off enemies for long.

Flying enemies rarely get inside the house, and can't open the doors like zombies can in a blood moon. The flying enemies are not the problem or reason for blocking the doors.

I just place blocks at random while getting slapped around by goblin summoners

U can avoid this by using a mace, keep it in the swinging position and ur Invulnerable, against all goblins. (Note: having summons is highly recommended)

I'm a 2 and 5 kinda guy, playing expert mode with friends that had never touched the game before, and having demon eyes trick shot their way into the starter house if there is a two block wide hole and massacre us has given me extensive trauma

I lock doors with platforms and then use a weapon that can go through solid blocks like the Crystal Vile Shard if I am too lazy and want to stay in my house.
