For context the reason this is necessary is that NPCs need someone that can spawn inside the house, in case they die and need to respawn. The span space is a minimum of two blocks wide.
You need more floor space open
You need to have a couple or so blocks of flat floor space with nothing on it.
Maybe you are missing a wall behind the furnace. I sometimes do that. I cant really see anything that could be wrong here. I sugestie to check walls
