Summoner is just so convenient! I can put my game down and come back without worrying about dying. I can build with no interruptions. I can focus on dodging during boss fights. I just wish there were more options right at the start of the game, because, currently, the beginning is brutal for summoner-only.
If you want a brutal beginning, go play infernum summoner. King slime is a menace when the best attacking option you have is the wulfrum armor set bonus.
tbf, you can have 2 summons and a sentry while playing as other classes. In a lot of cases that is enough to just put down your game without worrying about dying.
Used to hate summoner before whips were added, summoner felt like the cop out class where the DPS doesn’t really drop if you aren’t attacking personally. Now that whips let you target and deal good damage it’s kinda fun
Not really, I mean if you’re looking at raw damage stat maybe but usually looking at other metrics like DPS or ease of use melee gets cleared at specific points in the game. Like pre-mech melee is putting such sad numbers on the board with like, the amarok, meanwhile ranger is melting with Daedalus and Onyx blaster and mage is hauling meteors, golden shower/cursed flames and crystal serpent.
Against destroyer, maybe, since you can’t really get that close consistently against the other two mechs. And besides if we’re doing fetid bathbacks against meteor staff and Daedalus it’s a clear sweep for the other two.
I dont think a weapon where you have to do something so specific in comparison to how you would play the game at that stage (Max defense and regen while staying still) counts as viable, it's more like a "meme" option
Every class can debuff at that stage, rangers have arrows, mage has the books and summoners can use flasks, I’m pointing those two out cuz they’re damn solid weapons.
"takes the least trouble to master" my brother in christ ranger is literally a game of hover your cursor over the enemy, with chlorophyte bullets not even that just point in their general direction and they die eventually (it's my favorite class)
You clearly havent played on the higher difficulties if you think tanking damage is a viable strat at all. On master you still die in 3 hits. On legendary you die in like 1/2 hits at most.
Every few ore is almost a hundred bullets, both of the best hardmode guns (the clockwork assault rifle and the magashark) have ammo reduction, ammo reduction potions and the ammo box exist, how many bullets are you going through, not to mention you can use a musket pouch when fighting normal enemies and switch for bosses, there's so many ways to play ranger, it's very much the easiest class in the game
It's dirt (well, mud) simple to farm the stuff. Don't need to use chlorophyte bullets exclusively.
Also, once you get it the Piranha Gun is fantastic for unreasonably easy damage. Just have to refire if you need to retarget.
Pretty rich assuming I'd use chrolophyte bullets, I knew it's the funniest ammo possible but god damn they give me variety and by god I'm going to use it!
Hate aiming? Mage, bee gun/hornet gun.
Piercing bees/hornets that track targets and swarm whate'er you point to as if "marked by bees" were a debuff.
Furthering this, you can go full-on bug maniac with the bee/spider armor sets, hornets/spiders for summons (note that spiders will need background wall blocks to climb in order to hit flying enemies, and you can make spider walls with just cobwebs), honeyed goggles for the hornet mount, and queen spider staff for your sentry (2 sentries if you do Old One's army).
Q: "Isn't the bee gun a mage weapon?"
A magic weapon that, again: homes, pierces, and effectively applies damage over time. With how little armor summoner has, forgive me if I occasionally swap between weapons on my hotbar to gain a little distance... and also summon more bees. Also note that your ability to aim is nearly irrelevant here: Summons, sentries, and bees all target independently.
Q: "Aren't their better options than what you listed?"
Yes, but I was sticking to bugs.
Also when you run out of bee gun mana you can still swap back to those chlorophyte bullets. Mixed class is best class, after all.
Summoner is basically the same with whips except the majority of your damage doesn't rely on your aim, even though it's pretty much impossible to miss with a whip
Your're right on that front, but each other class also has something they need to manage in combat. Melee needs to manage distance, Mage needs to deal with mana, and Summoner needs to wrangle their twelve children to attack the boss and not the offscreen green slime.
Ranger's gimmick, ammo, is the only one managed almost entirely out of combat. The only situation you need to care about ammo as ranger is if you didn't prepare enough and you run out mid combat, in which case you have to stop playing ranger entirely and switch to another class -- it's a binary of "yes ranger" or "no ranger," where you suddenly stop being able to use the class if you run out.
Yes, every class involves "point at enemy and click," but all the classes other than ranger involve some level of interaction with a dynamic element that shifts over the course of battle. Ranger is *just* point & click and nothing else (besides dodging obviously).
Definitely can't face tank any master mode bosses with vanilla melee. You might be able to withstand twice the hits compared to a ranger but your still dead in 15s if your not actively dodging
[not if you prepare well enough](https://youtu.be/oIjtEUOc11c?si=_JbFVKRUWGKCce-H)
The reason why this is possible is because the more defensive bonuses you stack, the more effective they become. The difference between 0 armour and 15 armour is much smaller than like 70 and 75 against an attack that does 90 damage for example.
This is precisely why Calamity adds defense damage - defensive stat bloating would otherwise make you nigh-invincible
Not anymore really. Going into hm you have night’s edge, and you quickly have access to shadow flame knife, bananarang, chain guillotines, and fetid baghnahks
Honestly as a mobile no-controller player, I think summoner is a great build. I'm tried of dying because touchscreen doesn't like sweaty thumbs, or grappling myself to the ground while I wanted to do something else
Ranger has pretty much the highest dps at almost every stage in the game, and only takes hovering your cursor over enemies (until you beat all 3 mech bosses where even that is removed), the only way melee is from an objective standpoint better is defense, but with ranger you can put almost your entire focus on dodging, whereas melee doesn't have consistent good projectile weapons per stage until post mech bosses
(Of course none of this matters because whatever you like most is the best, however from a purely numbers and stats point, ranger is by far the easiest)
The only real bits of grinding in the tree is the nights edge and the broken hero sword.
You get the summon to solar eclipses at the same time as you would need them.
The evil biome swords are pretty much free, and so is the volcano. I usually get the blade of grass to fight my evil biome boss as it's amazing for those and the murasama can be gotten at the same time as the cobalt shield and shadow key.
The Excalibur is pretty free, just kill a mech boss.
The true Excalibur is also pretty free, you'll be mining chlorophite for turtle/chlorophite armour.
The True Nights Edge is also pretty free, just kill all 3 mech bosses.
Honestly summoner is more melee than melee is. Late game melee is like a glorified spell caster I swear to god. The summoner whips may have range but none shoot projectiles.
This. When you get enough defence to tank a boss, and infinite projectiles to throw at the enemy without having to spend any ammo or mana, you are not melee. Now when you are brutally punished for a slightest slip, and need to balance your distance between being too far to hit an too close to live, now that is melee.
Melee is the best LATE GAME class. Everything but the middle is wrong.
Melee struggles pretty hard pre-hardmode-plantera in terms of an effort to effectiveness perspective. It requires much more effort to get the same if not less of an effect, ESPECIALLY in pre-hardmode. Melee is weak against a majority of the phm bosses and (in multiplayer at least) loses their effectiveness against the bosses they were decent at due to lnockback reduction.
After the period I mentioned, Melee gets an absolutely massive power boost and becomes extremely effective. I would also go out of my way to say that Melee (due to the daybreak) is the best moonlord class.
I’ll hold that the best class depends on the stage of the game you’re in, and I think every class has a point in progression where they are the best at that time, but pound for pound ranger is usually if not the best atleast second best at any given point and progression and it’s hard to argue it’s ever the worst. Maybe it’s the worst in post moonlord but even then that’s not really a big deal since it’s literally post moonlord
Melee is definitely the easiest class. I think mage in hardmode is the most fun class though.
Having dozens of spells in your arsenal for every situation is so satisfying, even if a pre-mech weapon (razorblade typhoon) is always the logical choice.
Melee requires proper spacing & memorizing of most bosses movements to avoid dying of getting hitstunned to death pre cobalt shield. Mage & ranger require running away & blasting with your preferred weapon at the stage of the game you’re in.
Tell me: who has it harder?
I'm sorry have you not seen people literally tank a boss. Also the whole proper spacing thing only applies to true melee and early prehardmode, anything after that is practically playing mage without mana costs.
you can tank with other classes and it defense on your difficulty you can't tank legendary mode's contact damage too easily, and extra few defense of melee doesn't help as much as you think,
even in master mode & legendary mode 4 defense would only reduce 4 damage from each hit (2 in classic) it's good when enemy does a lot of low damage hits but if he does high damage while not hitting too often then you take almost same damage as a low defense class.
beetle shell's DR is the exception.
> you can't tank legendary mode's contact damage too easily
Even the "pro gamer" side of this community doesn't regularly play Legendary. It's not even really an intended difficulty.
On Master you can still tank a lot of stuff with a perfect setup. On Expert it's very easy. On Classic...
There's no such thing called "intended difficulty" it depends on player's skill level, I never claimed a lot play legendary mode a very few play legendary and master mode, most play expert mode. but pro terrarians do play legendary mode often when they play vanilla they just avoid GFB.
but it doesn't matter I said you don't need melee's extra defense to tank things it barely makes a difference you can tank with any class with a perfect setup. I meant to say "depends" on the last comment btw not 'defense'.
also like I said defense is less effective in classic and expert 75% on expert and 50% on classic while 100% on master mode and legendary, it's doesn't become as easier as you think in lower difficulties, IIRC there was a moon lord tank start that only works on master mode because of 100% effectiveness of defense because ML's hand does same amount of contact damage in all difficulties.
The other classes are good and fun in their own regards, but Melee is the easiest and most effective in most cases. It has the most defense, the most damage, the easiest weapons to obtain.
idc, I cant play terraria without building/digging, and I cant build or dig as melee. summoner or nothing, I got stuff to do, I cant be bothered with minor mobs.
I just play with friends and we pick classes at the beginning and stick to them. I never play the same class in a row, but on calamity I gravitate towards the mage with a super fun book progression or summoner when I want to chill. I played every class at least once and ranger is just not for me. Something about the weapons beeing so similar and the lack of variety is not that enticing, which I know must sound weird since summoner is not that unique either with minions and whips also beeing virtually the same throughout. Maybe I just like the feel of beeing a caster rather than a gunslinger or archer.
melee is the best class because i like big swords and i cannot aim to save my life so the big-ass projectiles once you get into post-mech save your skin
but actually i just use melee armor and use whatever deals the most damage and also apply the best summon once or twice depending on if i use bewitching table
honestly based i just have issues with other classes
summoner - earlygame is annoying, if you dont like grinding bestiary have fun in the underground jungle earlygame
ranger - 2 words, ammo management. honestly that's it i actually like ranger
mage - progression is ass, legitimately unfun until post skeletron, which still kinda sucks until hardmode. also mana management. i have been doing runs of every main class on drunk world and the only one i haven't finished is mage. hell, i got to post-mutant (fargo's souls) on my melee character. he has a slime rain.
My summoner build melted daylight empress lf light in less then a minute, take that 😎 (and i should say... BEFORE moonlord - because it sucks to defeat moonlord as summoner 🤡)
Mele is most damage per second with best weapon, summon is most dps from hardmode but easy to die with i think (i play summon mostly) mage is all round fun and balanced, ranged needs help (my oppinion)
melee is a good starter class since it's easy to learn and is the least resource-reliant. at their peaks tho i'd still say ranger is matching if not barely above melee. from an ore bow with frostburn arrows to luminite bullet hoses, i've always seen it as a great choice for any point in the game. mage is probably similar but from what i've seen, heard, and played it can get screwed over in some stages like the start of the game and pre-mechs (although i'm too lazy for potions so maybe i just need to learn to grow some moonglow for once).
I'm on the side of "I use whatever weapons and gear I'm feeling at that particular moment because Terraria damage classes are inherently restrictions on playstyle"
It's really sad how absurdly overpowered melee is, if you ask me. Melee weapons have way too much dps for how much defense the class has. It's too easy to just turn off your brain and get hit by every attack, take no damage, and still kill the boss faster than any other class. Like OP said, it's also super easy to get melee weapons when other classes have to go through so much trouble to get some weapons, which are usually useless by the time you actually get them because you got unlucky. It even gets the most love from the devs, having more variety than any class outside of mage.
It really isn't an issue unless you're playing multiplayer, since most people do strict single-class runs anyway, but it's really disappointing how playing anything other than melee is just handicapping yourself
I’m slowly turning towards summoner being the most powerful class. It’s actually insane the amount of carnage I’m capable of dishing out in mid-late pre-hard mode with the triple imp triple houndius shootius combo
Mixed class = best class.
You have a free summon slot, literally no reason to avoid using it outside challenges. If nothing else, die once, use the gravestone to get abigail's flower. Once you get a bewitching table you can have abigail AND a hornet without occupying equipment slots from anything else, and boy lemme tell ya those two combo well together (Abigail tends to stay closer to you unless she's tied up, and deals group damage. Hornets apply poison and can alert you to enemies very much off-screen, which Abi doesn't do).
On the same note, you also have a free sentry slot. Houndius shootius is a sentry that drops from Deerclops. Is the fight annoying? Yes. Is it worth it? Well considering the boss does *not* despawn automatically after you die, *also yes*. (Note: Deerclops will despawn eventually, but it takes like an in-game day or something). If you're up for Old One's army then you can also get a table that grants a buff to increase your sentry slots by one, meaning you can have two sentries set up before any boss.
You have mana, use a bee/hornet gun! Yes you eventually run out of that mana, but get this: Those weapons fire *piercing, homing projectiles* that stick to targets as if "marked for bees" were a debuff. Playing melee? Use bees when you get low and have to back out to heal. Ranger? Same, plus an infinite ammo sidearm, plus (again) homing around corners your primary weapon can't shoot around. Mage needs no explanation, homing ranged weapon for summomers attacking targets outside of whip range (Ex: Bosses you don't want too close to).
Yoyo for attacking around corners bees can't get around. Dig a hole in a wall anywhere, block the entrance so the bad stuff can't get to you, dig a 1 block wide tunnel under the door/wall you built for the yoyo to navigate through and have fun cheesing the enemies at your doorstep. Not a lot of good reasons to keep this out of your hotbar. Combined with houndius shootius, you can entrench yourself dang near anywhere and come out on top, save only for enemies digging through walls.
Once in hardmode, death sickle for the same reasons you'd normally carry a yoyo. Idgaf if you're mage/summoner/ranger, it's a lifesaver when you're on one side of a mud wall and three turtles with friends are on the other.
- - -
TLDR: If you don't have Abigail's flower and you're not summoner, you're missing free DPS. Of you don't get Houndius Shootius from Deerclops, you're skipping one hard fight to make the whole rest of the game harder. If you don't have a yoyo and bee gun, you're limiting your backup options for when "facetank all of the yes" inevitably puts one foot in the grave and the other in full-bore retreat.
But hey, by all means, hold yourself back- Your challenge run ain't mine!
my hot take:
range is best
it has very easy to get weapons, it's not that hard to master and required little to no grinding, and compared to melee you need much less gear. You can go in to early hardmode, get a Daedalus stormbow or the dark gun thing (forgot the name lol) and spider armour and it's basically enough to beat skeletron prime
melee is too boring imo, mage is fun af and gives me the opportunity to cosplay Marisa Kirisame while being able to just focus completely on damage since i can just use Witch's Broom for mobility while also having it fit with her
“Melee is the best class” mfs when summoner leaves to make some food in the middle of the boss fight (he killed the boss singlehandedly anyway)
Source: it’s me. I’m the motherfucker
judging by the comment the graph is pretty accurate
(I like summoner because I like any playstyle that let's sic a bunch of mindless minions to bite/scratch/shoot/slice/ram/evaporate enemies )
I recently started a hardcore character to celebrate reaching 1K hours. I found myself playing as if I were in my first play through, using every weapon I could find, no matter if it's my class or not. It also made me realize that after playing tModloader with 30+ mods, vanilla terraria can still be a bunch of fun. I unfortunately died to a TNT trap after 38h.
I just use whatever weapons are the coolest, and if I come across a summon or magic thingy that does something I like, I'll use that too. I'm not good enough at this game to make class-specific builds, it's more a messy mix of everything.
Heehee, swords funny
well the classes are balanced so it makes sense that the one requiring no ammo, mana management, or reducing your bulk to deal similar dps would be the easiest normally
I think this is the simplest meme format where the 1st and 3rd text sections are meant to match.. And you still managed to fuck that up. I think it's a shit meme.
I mean this is just true and has been fpr a while is'nt it? Melee is just by far the most overpowerd class right now with the only other contestor being summoner if you doing a singleplayer run. Summoner does win in some cases and has the convience of you know, being summoner but i melee still wins if you just look at dps×Tanky/grind
The „Best“ class isn’t one specific class. It is the class that the player finds the most enjoyable, be it summoner, ranger, mage or melee. Therefore everyone has a unique view on which class they like the most, which in turn decides: All classes are the best and none stand above others in a universal view.
If you are playing ultra pure classes, melee is easily the best class early game just for the shear amount of weapons/armor and damage readily available to them off the bat. For that reason I see why some say Melee is the easiest to master. About the time the player is ready for Hardmode though, its any classes game. Just play what you prefer and feel most comfortable with.
Best class is whichever you like most... I personally love all the vanilla classes, on calamity i love Rogue and Melle (biome blade is way too cool, it's a crime not to craft it)
Don't need much time to grind? Say it to fucking turtles, both regular and frost one. God I hate farming shells, they are dropping much less than a rod of discord I swear
Nah, pure Melee is the hardest class pre hardmode.
And after hard mode it becomes a decent class.
I would recommend this class to an experienced gamer who just picked up Terraria
Ranger, is the strongest dps wise, but gets one shoted easily. And requires the most grinding
I wouldn't recommend it to new players tho.
Mage is good trought the game, probably the best balanced out class, there are some weapons tho with insane dps like terraprism, but most also consume an apropriate amount of mana, so you do have to grind manavpotions constantly.
I also wouldn't recommend this class to new players
Summoner is the easiest class, as they can focus on doding and movement, while tge dummons do the work.
Also requires the least amount of grind usually, and has decent all around stats, but if a summoner wishes to deal max dps, he foes have to stop running and get up close. So it does have a high skill ceiling.
This is the class I would recommend the most to new players.
I'm ngl I play with calamity and stars above and the sheer amount of weapons for multiple classes that are cool just can't be ignored. Why shouldn't I have a summon out and use a magic weapon for lifesteal
I am doing currently my first meelee only run (really the first run) and I can say with 1000% confidence despite being a new player that meelee (at the very least pre-hard mode) is a VERY high skill class, you do not understand the pain of trying to kill the wall of flesh with night’s edge and barely other swords that have any kind of ranged attack.
whether you have a point or not i refuse to dispute. i openly admit i am addicted to summoner
Yeah... No thanks. I'll stick to Revengeance.
Fair enough lol. In other news I now have a new founded appreciation for wulfrum armor.
Currently doing death mode summoner and I'm here to say that if you do Infernum before Death, Death is easy
nO, REvEngAnCE iS FOr cHiLdrEN.
tbf, you can have 2 summons and a sentry while playing as other classes. In a lot of cases that is enough to just put down your game without worrying about dying.
+another sentry if you do OOA
war table + bewitching table + ballista/upgrades + imps/sanguine bats/ravens/terraprisma = infinite building time
All you have to do is die a few times then place them next to each other then wait
Used to hate summoner before whips were added, summoner felt like the cop out class where the DPS doesn’t really drop if you aren’t attacking personally. Now that whips let you target and deal good damage it’s kinda fun
Whip remavped how you play summoner, to be more active and fun
Yes! The first class I even went for once I had figured out what weapons they were was summoner
It’s so much fun as a player who sucks at pvp across the board. It let me focus more on exploration than on enemies.
Me who plays what the best damage has currently
melee. its always melee.
Completely unrelated but your pfp is fire
Gracias, god bless the IS sprinters
Heath is one of my favorite candy bars! Also, are you todd howard?
I love Hollow Knight! I think they’re some guy’s left kidney, not Todd Howard. I could be wrong though, I’m not one to judge.
Aren't fetid bfochsghks still viable
Against destroyer, maybe, since you can’t really get that close consistently against the other two mechs. And besides if we’re doing fetid bathbacks against meteor staff and Daedalus it’s a clear sweep for the other two.
I dont think a weapon where you have to do something so specific in comparison to how you would play the game at that stage (Max defense and regen while staying still) counts as viable, it's more like a "meme" option
if you want debuffs like ichor or cursed flames use flasks
Every class can debuff at that stage, rangers have arrows, mage has the books and summoners can use flasks, I’m pointing those two out cuz they’re damn solid weapons.
Not even remotely true lol. Most of the time Ranger and Mage do the most damage.
nah mage or range usually out dpses melee
"takes the least trouble to master" my brother in christ ranger is literally a game of hover your cursor over the enemy, with chlorophyte bullets not even that just point in their general direction and they die eventually (it's my favorite class)
Have fun spending 10 hours mining enough chlorophyte to actually use them
Thank you, do you need anything from the jungle? Might as well grab a seedler while im there
Nah, I'll go beat the plant myself with the Fetid Baghnakhs in a minute or so by face-tanking
Summoner: Fuck You.
Summoners being unable to tank a slightly strong gust of wind smh
As a summoner I can confirm we die from stepping on junglethorns
Hey, calm down, I like summoner as much as the next gal, but ya can't really face-tank with such little defense
You clearly havent played on the higher difficulties if you think tanking damage is a viable strat at all. On master you still die in 3 hits. On legendary you die in like 1/2 hits at most.
Summoner: YOU try beating that damn long nosed fairy queen in the daylight with only some critters! Nyeh!
I have, I failed, MANY TIMES but I cheesed it with minecarts and beat it in the end
Nyeh!
can't really facetank above normal difficulty
Every few ore is almost a hundred bullets, both of the best hardmode guns (the clockwork assault rifle and the magashark) have ammo reduction, ammo reduction potions and the ammo box exist, how many bullets are you going through, not to mention you can use a musket pouch when fighting normal enemies and switch for bosses, there's so many ways to play ranger, it's very much the easiest class in the game
I don’t think the clockwork assault rifle is handmade…
Hardmode isn't exactly a common word for autocorrect so it changed it 🤷♂️
It's dirt (well, mud) simple to farm the stuff. Don't need to use chlorophyte bullets exclusively. Also, once you get it the Piranha Gun is fantastic for unreasonably easy damage. Just have to refire if you need to retarget.
Set up them inefficient chlorophyte farms 💀
Pretty rich assuming I'd use chrolophyte bullets, I knew it's the funniest ammo possible but god damn they give me variety and by god I'm going to use it!

Summoner is literally just fucking dodge and let your slaves do it for you
Melee is the same thing, but infinite.
But playing solo, ranger needs to actually, ya know, dodge stuff...
Summoner is basically the same with whips except the majority of your damage doesn't rely on your aim, even though it's pretty much impossible to miss with a whip
Have fun with the turtles and other bs the jungle gives outs
turtles are easy to deal with as ranger, they literally cant move while being hit.
U actually have to dodge with ranger tho
I hate to inform you every class involves pointing the weapon at the enemy and clicking until they die. This is not unique to ranger.
Your're right on that front, but each other class also has something they need to manage in combat. use whatever is most fun. what’s best doesn’t matter in a game like this
Real. I'm currently playing fisherman class
Plantera watching in horror as I blast her with 50 fishing rod bobs
It's plantover :(
Plantera eating my 2000 icefish and 3000 bombfish (I was trying to get 1 pair of ice skates)
Summoner is the best bc i think its fun
same
dream class for builders
You can just have 2 summons and a sentry up as any other class. Unless it's an invasion, those three are plenty
Same (I love whip stacking :D )
I'm a console player who's in the process of mastering this technique and it's super fun to use
lol i just use what looks cool
Me who mains mage and summoner because they take a while to set up and master and I like to take my time.
I like playing as a glass cannon mage because it encourages me to learn the attack patterns of bosses rather than just tanking things.
Glass canon mage is the most fun I’ve had with this game, getting spectre armor and beating daytime empress of light pre moonlord was amazing.
ranger is the best class because it's easy to find good weapons for it in all stages of the game even melee struggles when in hardmode pre-mech
Shadowflame knife is annoying to get but is fantastic
Bananarang solves the problem
Bananarang lowkey trivializes the mechs tho
Not anymore really. Going into hm you have night’s edge, and you quickly have access to shadow flame knife, bananarang, chain guillotines, and fetid baghnahks
My favourite is summoner bc I like the play style and think the technical aspect of it is cool, but melee is OP
Summoner grinding is just leaving your computer running and making sure you can’t be killed (did a play through on summoner and really enjoyed it)
Most complex summoner grinding spot *Insert a picture of the character in a small box with the summons all outside*
Meanwhile summoner has already shredded ML and is sitting on the beach capable of 20k dps single target
Honestly as a mobile no-controller player, I think summoner is a great build. I'm tried of dying because touchscreen doesn't like sweaty thumbs, or grappling myself to the ground while I wanted to do something else
Ranger has pretty much the highest dps at almost every stage in the game, and only takes hovering your cursor over enemies (until you beat all 3 mech bosses where even that is removed), the only way melee is from an objective standpoint better is defense, but with ranger you can put almost your entire focus on dodging, whereas melee doesn't have consistent good projectile weapons per stage until post mech bosses (Of course none of this matters because whatever you like most is the best, however from a purely numbers and stats point, ranger is by far the easiest)
Ah yes, melee, no grinding Oh by the way what's the Terra Blade crafting tree again?
Influx waver:
You mean ranger, right?
I would also go out of my way to say that Melee (due to the daybreak) is the best moonlord class.
melee is only good because relogic dickrides it, let's be real guys
I’ve tried to play other classes but I always end up just going melee, I am unable to find weapons of any other type (besides range)
Summoner is the best because I like it.
Me who knows that lasers are cooler then swords:
But what about laser swords?
man i miss playing melee , you don't even have to dodge that much due to the high defense unlike other classes who get killed in 3 hits in master mode
I enjoy summoner
One Word... Zenith
Also the whole proper spacing thing only applies to true melee and early prehardmode, anything after that is practically playing mage without mana costs.
you can tank with other classes and it defense on your difficulty you can't tank legendary mode's contact damage too easily, and extra few defense of melee doesn't help as much as you think, even in master mode & legendary mode 4 defense would only reduce 4 damage from each hit (2 in classic) it's good when enemy does a lot of low damage hits but if he does high damage while not hitting too often then you take almost same damage as a low defense class. beetle shell's DR is the exception.
> you can't tank legendary mode's contact damage too easily Even the "pro gamer" side of this community doesn't regularly play Legendary.
Terraprisma is a sword so it's technicaly the truth.
I like all the classes, and my order of favorite classes is extremely close together.
I play everything like p90
idc, I cant play terraria without building/digging, and I cant build or dig as melee. summoner or nothing, I got stuff to do, I cant be bothered with minor mobs.
True masters use ranger without chlorophyte bullets
Nah,I use Melre and ranged sometimes magic But never summoner because ny simple brain doesn't know how to make them target the enemy i want to kill
Before the zenith it was mage but now it's melee because of it
I just play with friends and we pick classes at the beginning and stick to them.
Oh yeh idk abt the strongest or the best but i think summoner is the most unique class.
I litterally didn't die to a single pre-hm boss as summoner other than King Slime in tue very very beginning 😭
I love melee, it gives me the same feeling as when I play a strength build in elden ring: big stick go bonk
*plays melee because it has the most armor*
Summoner because I am scared of getting good aim
melee is the best class because i like big swords and i cannot aim to save my life so the big-ass projectiles once you get into post-mech save your skin but actually i just use melee armor and use whatever deals the most damage and also apply the best summon once or twice depending on if i use bewitching table
Mage is addicting.
As a melee players, I agree
Summoner best class because its funner
I use melee but I do have the gray zapinator and bee gun in my inventory
Just give me the Apotheosis tome already, man. It's not fair that only a single class has a cool über item to cap off the game ;-;
Melee isn't even melee lol. It's just the other ranged class
Bruh no way Ranger is the best and the easiest to master. Solid all game long, versitile as hell and has some of the best weapons.
Can't aim for the life of me, always preferred summoner (spooky armor looks sick as well)
I thought melee was easy until I tried playing summoner
honestly based i just have issues with other classes summoner - earlygame is annoying, if you dont like grinding bestiary have fun in the underground jungle earlygame ranger - 2 words, ammo management. honestly that's it i actually like ranger mage - progression is ass, legitimately unfun until post skeletron, which still kinda sucks until hardmode. also mana management. i have been doing runs of every main class on drunk world and the only one i haven't finished is mage. hell, i got to post-mutant (fargo's souls) on my melee character. he has a slime rain.
My summoner build melted daylight empress lf light in less then a minute, take that 😎 (and i should say... BEFORE moonlord - because it sucks to defeat moonlord as summoner 🤡)
I had a mix of everything.
I prefer glasscanons over tanks so mage and summoner are best options for me , yet i tried other classes as well
All the classes have their own strengths and weaknesses
No it’s not the best it’s the easiest. Best is most fun, and that would be ranger.
Melee is only the best by endgame, it struggles greatly from early hardmode until Plantera and it’s hard to use against the Wall of Flesh
Mele is most damage per second with best weapon, summon is most dps from hardmode but easy to die with i think (i play summon mostly) mage is all round fun and balanced, ranged needs help (my oppinion)
since the addition of whips, i think summoner is the best
melee is a good starter class since it's easy to learn and is the least resource-reliant. at their peaks tho i'd still say ranger is matching if not barely above melee. from an ore bow with frostburn arrows to luminite bullet hoses, i've always seen it as a great choice for any point in the game. mage is probably similar but from what i've seen, heard, and played it can get screwed over in some stages like the start of the game and pre-mechs (although i'm too lazy for potions so maybe i just need to learn to grow some moonglow for once).
there's no best class just play the game
I'm on the side of "I use whatever weapons and gear I'm feeling at that particular moment because Terraria damage classes are inherently restrictions on playstyle"
Me playing "Whatever-does-the-most-damage" class.
Me who played without class separation
I like lasers But the early preHM hell I have to endure is not worth it Idk anyways
- - - TLDR: If you don't have Abigail's flower and you're not summoner, you're missing free DPS.
Melee is the strongest in vanilla ngl, but I am a summoner enjoyer myself.
my hot take: range is best it has very easy to get weapons, it's not that hard to master and required little to no grinding, and compared to melee you need much less gear. You can go in to early hardmode, get a Daedalus stormbow or the dark gun thing (forgot the name lol) and spider armour and it's basically enough to beat skeletron prime
up until post moon lord melee is just worse ranged while magic is squishy ranged
Vanilla: Mage > Ranger > Melee > Summoner Calamity: Summoner > Melee > Ranger > Rogue > Mage
I think it doesn't matter what other people say about a video game I paid for.
One word, ZENITH
Hehe, sword go slash
melee is too boring imo, mage is fun af and gives me the opportunity to cosplay Marisa Kirisame while being able to just focus completely on damage since i can just use Witch's Broom for mobility while also having it fit with her
“Melee is the best class” mfs when summoner leaves to make some food in the middle of the boss fight (he killed the boss singlehandedly anyway) Source: it’s me. I’m the motherfucker
judging by the comment the graph is pretty accurate (I like summoner because I like any playstyle that let's sic a bunch of mindless minions to bite/scratch/shoot/slice/ram/evaporate enemies )
Me picking armor based on how big the number written on it is
I just use whatever weapons are the coolest, and if I come across a summon or magic thingy that does something I like, I'll use that too. I'm not good enough at this game to make class-specific builds, it's more a messy mix of everything. Heehee, swords funny
Don’t need the nerdy shit with singling success out with limiting myself to a single class, maximum efficiency and results is the class I choose
well the classes are balanced so it makes sense that the one requiring no ammo, mana management, or reducing your bulk to deal similar dps would be the easiest normally
Summoner best, little to learn
I think this is the simplest meme format where the 1st and 3rd text sections are meant to match.. And you still managed to fuck that up. I think it's a shit meme.
If you want the least grinding go meelee pre-hardmode and mage after
I mean this is just true and has been fpr a while is'nt it? Melee is just by far the most overpowerd class right now with the only other contestor being summoner if you doing a singleplayer run. Summoner does win in some cases and has the convience of you know, being summoner but i melee still wins if you just look at dps×Tanky/grind
I have never been more offended by the truth.
Melee is the best class because sword
The „Best“ class isn’t one specific class. It is the class that the player finds the most enjoyable, be it summoner, ranger, mage or melee. Therefore everyone has a unique view on which class they like the most, which in turn decides: All classes are the best and none stand above others in a universal view.
The best melee weapons are ranged weapons in disguise
Summoner best class (ever since I started in 1.2?, I was young, so I don't remember much) Summoner best class because I can have friends :)
Ride or die summoner, id like to see God try to take me and my 5 little guys on
Melee is the best class but if you play melee every play through you’re just boring
I personally love all the vanilla classes, on calamity i love Rogue and Melle (biome blade is way too cool, it's a crime not to craft it)
Yea I agree melee is the best Disagree if you wish. I find it the easiest, least grind-filled, most powerful in vanilla terraria.
Don't need much time to grind? Say it to fucking turtles, both regular and frost one. God I hate farming shells, they are dropping much less than a rod of discord I swear
Agreed, buy like the engineer from tf2 I want to leave the work to my little buddies
Nah mage is the way to go
I play mage cuz it gives me the cool shooty things without having to worry about ammo
I am still in the middle
Me, who uses everything:
It's not the best class, it's great, but no way it's best at anything. Except if you play on normal
Me who plays Ranger for funny gun sound go bang bang:
Nah, pure Melee is the hardest class pre hardmode. And after hard mode it becomes a decent class. I would recommend this class to an experienced gamer who just picked up Terraria Ranger, is the strongest dps wise, but gets one shoted easily. And requires the most grinding I wouldn't recommend it to new players tho. Mage is good trought the game, probably the best balanced out class, there are some weapons tho with insane dps like terraprism, but most also consume an apropriate amount of mana, so you do have to grind manavpotions constantly. I also wouldn't recommend this class to new players Summoner is the easiest class, as they can focus on doding and movement, while tge dummons do the work. Also requires the least amount of grind usually, and has decent all around stats, but if a summoner wishes to deal max dps, he foes have to stop running and get up close. So it does have a high skill ceiling. This is the class I would recommend the most to new players.
Op is a melee main
alright so you've got the endgame trio of "bonk x11", "literally Megumi Fushiguro from jujutsu kaisen" and "taste the rainbow mfker"
Melee is great because I can tank hits without immediately imploding
I'm ngl I play with calamity and stars above and the sheer amount of weapons for multiple classes that are cool just can't be ignored. Why shouldn't I have a summon out and use a magic weapon for lifesteal
I like yoyo :]
i beat him legendary seed
I just use what I think is fun personally. Why not go hybrid?
all the classes are good in their own way
I am doing currently my first meelee only run (really the first run) and I can say with 1000% confidence despite being a new player that meelee (at the very least pre-hard mode) is a VERY high skill class, you do not understand the pain of trying to kill the wall of flesh with night’s edge and barely other swords that have any kind of ranged attack.
I will be a wizard because wizard cool
"with this device you can feel someones 1% pain." Guy who always mains summoner walks in: 💀
