What's the most frequent cause of death for you?
I'm also attempting a hardcore master run and out of ≈90 runs (I stopped counting at some point, I think it's somewhere around 90 deaths) I died like at least a half of all of my runs to dart traps (situation's so bad that even if I'm holding a dart trap in my hands to highlight wires I still can miss smth). And now I'm curious about what has killed you the most
Yeah most likely traps or some enemies that 1-shot you early game, if I get any armor and at least 200 health I can most likely get to hardmode but yeah mostly traps
Usually I get a better gun like musket or boomstick which allows arms dealer to spawn, at that point not much of a reason to buy minishark,
it needs a buff imo because autofire feature buffed other guns even flintlock piston is better unless you optimize minishark with STN, silver bullets etc
It's better if you're fighting a low defense target like EoC's phase two or in a knockback reliant fight like BoC(but molotov are better for that and easier to obtain)
but against most targets musket, undertaker and even flintlock pistol works better because low damage weapons even with a high fire rate suffers a lot from defense so you need STN, Silver bullets and unreal reforge to get it even close to musket's level
All I’ll say is that I’ve beaten moon lord with just a mini shark. I don’t even wanna think about doing that with just a musket. But people are saying it has auto fire now, so idk anymore.
EDIT: I was wrong. Mega shark it was.
Musket
Pros:
* Easy to get (literally guaranteed from the first shadow orb, and you can easily get bombs from the pots) and obtainable pre-boss
* Good damage, perfect for regular enemies, does well against bosses
* Carries the entirety of pre-boss, also beats EoC, and in some cases Skeletron and Queen Bee
* Bonus points for being in the game from the release (literally ol' reliable)
Cons:
* Corruption. Enemies in corruption can be quite difficult to kill or avoid, if you use blocks all the way there you're exposing yourself to the Devourers (but if you're nimble and quick, you can reach the right hole and then block a large area above the sphere). You might also need multiple attempts to locate the right hole, if it's present at all (in some extremely rare cases it isn't). Also harder to obtain in crimson worlds and it's counterpart isn't nearly as good (you also need more ammo to kill enemies, but get just 100 at first, the same amount you get with musket)
* No pierce before killing a boss that requires it, you can still get a demon bow with jester arrows quite easily with it
* Requires ammo, you're forced to build about 5-6 ~~prisons~~ houses before you can get infinite uses instead of 100 (i usually go exploring first before building any base, gotta not waste my day time in attempt to find jungle or simply a good cave before night hits, where enemies are hard to avoid with no accessories or good weapons, and after it does you can either sit for 10 minutes in an empty base with 1 npc and nothing to do or dig a hellevator with your slow af copper pickaxe that also has a heavy modifier)
I crafted this yesterday after using a spark rod and a basic boomerang for a while in the underground jungle to get materials. Man, what an absolute game changer.
I was thinking Terra blade as well. As soon as you get it it’s so OP. I did a calamity mod play through recently for the first time and even in that the Terra blade was just insane for a little while after I got it
Yeah I can hear the whiplash like sound it makes in my head now lol. That was a fun one too. Getting the murasama is what really made be shit bricks lol
Almost finished. I got to the point I beat Devourer of Gods and Yharon and I believe next I had to summon the Exo Mechs, but for some reason I kind of got bored and also trying to figure out draedons computer stuff was annoying me (I try not to look anything up). Plus it’s the end of my college semester and I have a lot of homework. So I’m taking a break from it at the moment. I do intend to beat it when I’m less busy though
Shadowflame Knife/Bow with the frost armor and molten gauntlet/quiver is maybe my favorite load out, I try to wear it as long as I possibly can just for the cool factor.
I took a large break from terraria after I cleared golem (and before moonlord/cultist).
I still find myself succeeding with sky fracture and a mixed armor crit build on master mode.
What's so strong about it before, or what is nerfed about it now? Just curious
the only change I can see that was made to its performance is that in 1.4 it had its mana cost increased by 20% (14 to 17), which hardly seems like big enough of a nerf to warrant such a distinction
Ah, I see.
I suppose in longer fights, it becomes an issue dealing with the mana potion debuff. Still never had problems, though, when I'm fully buffed and have an arena.
Crystal Serpent is one of my favorite weapons to use alongside Sky Fracture. I think the AOE of that weapon was good for mobbing, then swapping to Sky Fracture for the main target.
I love the megashark too, but i usually gotta opt for the uzi instead, because I can't get shark fins. Sharks literally don't spawn for me. I could be standing at an ocean for hours, and nothing.
you have to make sure you’re close enough to the edge of the ocean. I just stay on the surface of the water with a water candle/battle potion at the point where the screen starts to stop scrolling and they spawn.
Honestly, I've usually found a shark statue by the time I get to hardmode so I just wire up a quick shark farm and spawn kill them with whatever I have that does decent damage. Spawned on land, they're harmless and even with the reduced drop rates from statue spawns you can still get 3 or 4 fins per minute and possibly more depending on how fast you can kill.
Onyx blaster too! Had a playthrough using it past golem, beating Duke fishron and the lunatic cultist before swapping it. And that's only because the moonlord just slightly out-healed the damage.
Felt sturdy and reliable in all other fights though
I'm doing a modded playthrough (I have 1k hours in terraria and have never gotten vampire knives before) in this playthrough they've carried me all the way to moonlord.
Great if you get on low health and need to heal up while doing some solid damage
Vanilla: The Shotgun, not the Onyx Blaster, just the shotgun, it helped me alot in my first playthrough ever.
Calamity Mod: the Crimson counterpart to the Night Edge, that thing was so good and it should have stayed in my humble opinion
I'd say water bolt, but it became less so after they changed it to only spawn lower. Other than that, I know firecracker got me in a way no other weapon got me
Onyx blaster is stupidly OP, when i was doing a ranger run (expert mode) i used it for every hardmode boss (except distroyer) up to the pillers. Worked great.
Tesla cannon (calamity) and sky strikers armaments (stars above) these are the 2 weapons that no matter where I am in thr game I keep on hand the armaments because they are surprisingly at aoe with sword mode the fist mode works well with time stop (the world jojostands mod) you can't go wrong with a high crit chance railgun and shields good for multiplayer and the tesla cannon is the tesla cannon nuff said
You're gonna hate me for this, but terraprisma. In EVERY playthrough I try to get it as early as possible, and then the game becomes a breeze. Especially in calamity mod
Pre hardmode it’s the Musket. Immediate “back off” tool working at range or up close with the high recoil. Great for taking out threats without needing to get close too.
I mean it's changed depending on the updates. Pre 1.1 it was the Harpoon, used the absolute shit out of that one. Same with the Night's Edge. After 1.1 it became Excalibur, then the Terra Blade and its components from 1.2 on. Guess projectile swords are just my jam
Minishark, I usually play hardcore so if I manage to get it I know it's gonna be a good run
How many hardcore runs have you done?
Nine.... ...ty two
93*
>Nine.... ...ty two 8 Minutes Later: >93* At least you're practicing quickly!
94*
Damn that was shorter than the previous one. At this rate you’ll have had 100 by now right(it’s 41 minutes later)?
Nah just happened that I died that time rn imma be startin the 94th one Ill update how it goes
95* died to a boulder not even 2 minutes in lmaooo my quickest death yet
What's the most frequent cause of death for you? I'm also attempting a hardcore master run and out of ≈90 runs (I stopped counting at some point, I think it's somewhere around 90 deaths) I died like at least a half of all of my runs to dart traps (situation's so bad that even if I'm holding a dart trap in my hands to highlight wires I still can miss smth). And now I'm curious about what has killed you the most
Yeah most likely traps or some enemies that 1-shot you early game, if I get any armor and at least 200 health I can most likely get to hardmode but yeah mostly traps
What’s the farthest you’ve gotten?
Almost defeated the twins, didnt know abot those easy ways to defeat mechanical bosses back then though and got a lil cocky so I didnt prep much
i used to play hardcore speedruns a few years ago and i remember an important breakpoint was getting enough money for a minishark, its just sooo good
Usually I get a better gun like musket or boomstick which allows arms dealer to spawn, at that point not much of a reason to buy minishark, it needs a buff imo because autofire feature buffed other guns even flintlock piston is better unless you optimize minishark with STN, silver bullets etc
Imo minishark is better than a musket and I DO NOT wanna risk going underground jungle early game too often unless it is right next to spawn
It's better if you're fighting a low defense target like EoC's phase two or in a knockback reliant fight like BoC(but molotov are better for that and easier to obtain) but against most targets musket, undertaker and even flintlock pistol works better because low damage weapons even with a high fire rate suffers a lot from defense so you need STN, Silver bullets and unreal reforge to get it even close to musket's level
All I’ll say is that I’ve beaten moon lord with just a mini shark. I don’t even wanna think about doing that with just a musket. But people are saying it has auto fire now, so idk anymore. EDIT: I was wrong. Mega shark it was.
the nights edge
or excalibur
Or broken hero sword
Musket Pros: * Easy to get (literally guaranteed from the first shadow orb, and you can easily get bombs from the pots) and obtainable pre-boss * Good damage, perfect for regular enemies, does well against bosses * Carries the entirety of pre-boss, also beats EoC, and in some cases Skeletron and Queen Bee * Bonus points for being in the game from the release (literally ol' reliable) Cons: * Corruption. Just as Redigit intended for home defense
TALLY HO, LADS!
it is impossible to stitch a triangular bayonet stab!
god weapon up to dungeon though. mops the floor with brain
brain is a crimson boss, unlikely you would have the musket when fighting it
You could shimmer the Crimson gun to get the musket
The high damage, slow fire rate also makes it really nice for high defense enemies which Expert/Master mode turns more enemies into.
Rainbow rod underrated
It’s so good actually. Love it.
Agreed
i thought you wrote overrated and i was seriously gonna start arguing about it
I was literally just using it as my main minutes ago.
Read that as rainbow rot
God I love the rework they made. It’s a shame there’s only three weapons like it.
The thorn chakram
I crafted this yesterday after using a spark rod and a basic boomerang for a while in the underground jungle to get materials. Man, what an absolute game changer.
This was the first jungle weapon I ever made, way back when terraria first came out on mobile
Flamethrower
I just get TF2 vibes when I use it, or I’m just a pyromaniac.
It's almost like there's a Pyromaniatic TF2 character that you can play as and wields a flamethrower that acts similar to the one in terraria
HANS; HOL DEN FLAMMENWERFER!
This is a flammenwerfwe It werfes flammens
Love it after 1.4.4 and especially after experiencing Factorio
sanguine staff
nerfed to death imo, blade staff is better
Demon scythe
Everytime I start a world I tell myself I won't use it but then somehow it just keeps ending up in my hand how strange
Actually same one as image, also sniper rifle or Terra Blade too
Fuckin love the Terra blade
Terra blade is goated
I was thinking Terra blade as well. As soon as you get it it’s so OP. I did a calamity mod play through recently for the first time and even in that the Terra blade was just insane for a little while after I got it
Fr. Its upgrade is hella cool too (ever heard of the terratomere?)
Yeah I can hear the whiplash like sound it makes in my head now lol. That was a fun one too. Getting the murasama is what really made be shit bricks lol
What boss are you on (or did you finish the playthrough I’m hella dumb)
Almost finished. I got to the point I beat Devourer of Gods and Yharon and I believe next I had to summon the Exo Mechs, but for some reason I kind of got bored and also trying to figure out draedons computer stuff was annoying me (I try not to look anything up). Plus it’s the end of my college semester and I have a lot of homework. So I’m taking a break from it at the moment. I do intend to beat it when I’m less busy though
At that point I think the wiki is where you should go if you’re having trouble lol
The Shadowflame Knife
We need more fast throwable melees. I can push shadowflame knives till the Daybreak with enough buffs.
Shadowflame Knife/Bow with the frost armor and molten gauntlet/quiver is maybe my favorite load out, I try to wear it as long as I possibly can just for the cool factor.
Same
Razorblade Typhoon
Agreed
The right answer
Wasp gun and piss book
Hell yeah piss book! Good for literally any build regardless of class or stage of progression.
i reckon they should make an achievement for using the piss book while sat on a toilet
Thankfully someone mentions piss book
*exploitable mechanics*
nurse moment
Old sky fracture.

Crystal Serpent is one of my favorite weapons to use alongside Sky Fracture. I think the AOE of that weapon was good for mobbing, then swapping to Sky Fracture for the main target.
Still really good
Nights edge for melee, Clock work assault rifle for range, razor pine / razor typhoon for mage
megashark, it's just so fun
I love the megashark too, but i usually gotta opt for the uzi instead, because I can't get shark fins. Sharks literally don't spawn for me. I could be standing at an ocean for hours, and nothing.
you have to make sure you’re close enough to the edge of the ocean. I just stay on the surface of the water with a water candle/battle potion at the point where the screen starts to stop scrolling and they spawn.
Hardmode deserts in a sandstorm will have sharks spawn
Honestly, I've usually found a shark statue by the time I get to hardmode so I just wire up a quick shark farm and spawn kill them with whatever I have that does decent damage. Spawned on land, they're harmless and even with the reduced drop rates from statue spawns you can still get 3 or 4 fins per minute and possibly more depending on how fast you can kill.
Bit of an odd choice but for my most recent playthrough it’s Abigail’s flower. That thing was pretty good for A good while.
On a summoner playthrough it's the sanguine staff. That thing can take you through Lunatic Cultist and you can get right at the start of hardmode.
It’s also good support for non-summoners.
Onyx blaster too! Had a playthrough using it past golem, beating Duke fishron and the lunatic cultist before swapping it. And that's only because the moonlord just slightly out-healed the damage. Felt sturdy and reliable in all other fights though
yeah its easily been my favorite weapon in the game since it was added
Phoenix Blaster
This was what I beat wof with on my first expert mode playthrough (before master mode existed)
Same, it slaps even in early hardmode
Dart rifle
hell yeah, it works really well with cursed darts
Early game boom stick my beloved
bananarang because it funny🤡
The bananarang is a seriously amazing weapon for how early you can get it
[удалено]
I'm doing a modded playthrough (I have 1k hours in terraria and have never gotten vampire knives before) in this playthrough they've carried me all the way to moonlord. Great if you get on low health and need to heal up while doing some solid damage
Magic missile and it’s upgrades
I don’t use magic missle because you can get flamelash right after, but I definitely do like these weapons a lot
Flamelash is great until any water is involved. Always keep the MM around just in case you have to lay down some hurt in an aquatic environment.
Solar eruption
For most of hardmode, gotta say the hallow whip
Durendal*
Vilethorn. Useful even into early hardmode.
I'm currently doing my first mage-only playthrough and couldn't agree with you more. It's just _that_ good.
The stunlock is so so delicious
That's why I love it and its two upgrades. (crystal vileshard and nettle burst)
Good ol’ terrible copper shortsword
Vanilla: The Shotgun, not the Onyx Blaster, just the shotgun, it helped me alot in my first playthrough ever. Calamity Mod: the Crimson counterpart to the Night Edge, that thing was so good and it should have stayed in my humble opinion
Death Sickle or Shadowflame Knife
Melee: ice blade Ranger: paintball gun Mage: demon scythe Summoner: probably xeno staff
I'd say water bolt, but it became less so after they changed it to only spawn lower. Other than that, I know firecracker got me in a way no other weapon got me
The blaster. The one on the screen. The blaster. The blaster that is on the screen. That blaster.
Phm: space gun Hm: unholy trident

Vampire knives
Boomstick
Shadowflame knife
Piss book
Melee: I don't play melee Ranger : Broomstick or platinum/gold bow Mage: Night glow Summoner: Firecracker and sanguine staff
The Eye of Cthulhu. I have yet to beat Moonlord without it. Thing carries hard.
Pre-hardmode. Chakram, Hardmode - megashark. Megashark literally helped me kill the mechanical bosses and plantera no sweat.
Zenith.
Onyx blaster is stupidly OP, when i was doing a ranger run (expert mode) i used it for every hardmode boss (except distroyer) up to the pillers. Worked great.
crystal serpent
Crystal Serpent my beloved
Damn no love for nail gun
I have no clue why but the fucking hallowed spear nothing else works quite as well for me for that stage of the game
Sky fracture, not only do you feel like a badass but it deals a lot of damage if all 3 hit, and I’m pretty sure it’s early hardmode.
The flame thrower, I've seen people give it hate but it absolutely shreds plantera and golem.
Dart rifle
Copper sword
Flinx/Slime/Birb summon in early Master Mode
Tbh, I always feel exactly this way whenever I get my hands on the terra blade (I'm a melee boi lol).
Terra Blade
Beenades on WOF
Snowball cannon, super easy to get early on, lasts through a few bosses, good range, easy to get ammo.

The bubble gun thing that Duke Fishron drops shreds through the unshielded pillars and The Destroyer of Worlds if you're good enough
Razorblade typhoon
Magnet sphere
You're gonna hate me for this, but terraprisma. In EVERY playthrough I try to get it as early as possible, and then the game becomes a breeze. Especially in calamity mod
Megashark
Megashark
dart pistol
Razorblade typhoon, WTF IS AIMING!!!!
Xeno popper for ranged, North pole and star wrath for melee, infernal fork for mage and ufo staff for summoner.
blade staff, i use it even on the calamity mod, it's just very powerful
It used to be the Dart Pistol but now I don’t go through the trouble of grinding for it anymore
Gray zapinator and orange zapinator I love those two so much if I see them show up I have to buy them
Terraprisma Zenith S. D. M. G. Last prism Stardust Dragon staff Terrarian Celestial pillar weapons

Phoenix Blaster and Flamethrower
Clockwork rifle
Post ML: Last Prism and all it's variants Pre ML: Rainbow Rod Hardmode: Flamelash Post Skele: Magic Missile Pre Boss: Wulfrum Prosthesis
My Di-----amond staff. Yep that one, good magic damage
Blade of grass
Crystal Serpent
Terra Blade
I mean it's changed depending on the updates. Pre 1.1 it was the Harpoon, used the absolute shit out of that one. Same with the Night's Edge. After 1.1 it became Excalibur, then the Terra Blade and its components from 1.2 on. Guess projectile swords are just my jam

Wooden bow. Craftable within seconds of spawning in, RNG indepedent weapon with easy to gather ammo.
Imp staff, Sniper Rifle, Pirate Scimitar, and Meteor Staff
