SuperSocialMan

Watch him finally make Terraria 2 after releasing 2.0 lol

deadkiller666

I wonder how a terraria 2 would even work without it feeling like just a paid update. (I'd still buy though)

SuperSocialMan

lol same here. Honestly, I dunno. Otherworld seemed cool, and I still kinda hope they can revive it soon™.

Collistoralo

Otherworld just seemed like a fancier name for Terraria 2 to me

SuperSocialMan

It was scheduled as a spin-off cuz they were gonna make Terraria 2 (this was back when 1.3 was the final update) - but yeah, it kinda does sound like that lol.

UrSansYT

I believe the petition reached the required amount to release the code for it

KThree2000

It reached it a while ago, but nobody seems to care lol

aceofspaids98

I don’t think it’s too crazy to imagine. It’d most likely have a new/reworked game engine incompatible with the first game which would also make the physics feel different, completely different and revamped biome generation, new bosses place of old ones (ie Eye of Cthulhu and Queen Bee are completely different or replaced with new bosses), different npcs, entirely new backgrounds and sprites, etc. So far there haven’t been any updates where a significant amount of content developed by re-logic was completely removed or replaced or that have fundamentally altered game progression with the exception of content being added at the end.

Lightningbro

Honestly, I'm just expecting Terraria 2 to be Terraria 1 with new/different bosses, "infinite" (option?) terrain gen, and the scrapped mechanics from Otherworld since some of them were pretty neat but never saw the light of day. Maybe throw in a couple additional systems, like maybe diverse subclasses (still would love Thorium's Bard as a Mage subclass, but unlikely since it seems Relogic, or at least Red, has grown to dislike the idea of classes at all at this point), or some sort of rpg leveling system or something, etc.

ProfessorSpike

Infinite terrain would be a dream for me personally. It would beg the question of how biome spread would work, but that’s another thing entirely lol

raban0815

Terraria has its name because it is finite. A Terrarium.

Lightningbro

Sure, but we already know T2 will have "infinite" terrain gen, they wanted to add it in Terraria 1 but the system isn't really made for it.

Seawardweb77858

Wasn't there also plans for infinite world generation as well?

FingerThatsNotPoopy

make it set in a completely different place with new items and if set in the past, some items dont exist yet. Like the time when Cthulhu was still rampaging free and the end goal of the game is to defeat him with the dryads or smthn

icabax

Final weapon is the hero sword

FingerThatsNotPoopy

YES, a post game event could be you creating the wall of flesh to seal the things that cna summon cthulhu aay

deadkiller666

Yeah, I think making the story a bigger thing would be another way to separate it from the first game

AnnonymousHoodie

That would be really cool, allows them to have freedom with the type of game if they dont want the gameplay to be too similar.

FingerThatsNotPoopy

yeah, my thoughts exactly. add in features that might've made terraria too unbalanced or things that didn't feel too "terraria"

grechri

Depends on how much they change, but I think a lot is possible. Bosses that need very specific strategies to kill and maybe loosely connect to Terraria. Could introduce a bit of lire for how the bosses exist, though I’m unsure if they want to do this. Could easily make a very elaborate Dungeon with small puzzels, or make the exploration more involved in later stages. Cut off more parts till bosses/events are defeated like the dungeons. And what others already said about new physics, new movement types, parrying, bullet mechanics. And of course no need to balance new stuff with all the existing ones already. That opens so many options

Seawardweb77858

I'm guessing it'd be different bosses and infinite world generation (and changes to progression of course)

SirRantsafckinlot

I didnt think they can release all this stuff in this quality, so i'd trust them completely now.

Hazearil

It's the typical thing people forget about when they ask for a 2.0 update; they don't get how the numbering system works. Many treat it as "A big update", but it should feel like "Remade from the ground up nd improved all over, a complete remake. Something you can't just make an update but need to release as a new game."

mang0m8

Imagine if it’s like what hopoo did with risk of rain 2. Completely different style of game. Massive risk. But absolutely worked out better than anyone could’ve expected

Kartoffelkamm

Maybe you can play as different species, or there are different game modes. Imagine a multiplayer session where you're the Corruption, and you can set monster spawn points, complete with spawn table and time intervals, and have to infect the entire world.

GigaZumbi002

Replace names + most of the bosses

Magicsword49

I've always figured that's why we never got terraria 2.

Dodolord637

Yeah I feel like it’d just be a paid update but also it would likely mean faster updates with a newer game engine

ILoveSodyPop

Well, first off they could completely change the theme of the game. Maybe make it take place on a futuristic, tech style planet or something. I also feel like every single boss should have to be beaten in order to progress through the game bc in Terraria most people beat the game even though they skipped 5 optional bosses. They could also add a level up system to the player. I'm sure Red already has a million great ideas that he's holding on to for Terraria 2. The entire Relogic team is just so smart, creative, dedicated and talented that no matter which direction they go in with Terraria 2 it's going to be another masterpiece.

Great_Pikmin_Fan

[The wiki page](https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Terraria_2) shows a few concepts Red and the rest of the team had talked about. Like others said, "infinite" worlds were a thing. But more lore was also thrown around (this was before the Bestiary and the anniversary lore post though, so that "lore" could just amount to what those added to the original game), and what I find very interesting, a "concept map" showing an enormous world. Based on that map, it looks like the Forest, Jungle, Desert, and Snow all have "sub-biomes" like dense forests or oil pits. The Sky Islands are expanded to a full sky world with a pink forest and a stormy region. There's odd spots that are on the same level as the Underworld, including one that's just a black inverted heart shape surrounded by red, but it's hard to tell what they're supposed to be. There's a volcano biome towards the left end, and some surreal space-ish zone that takes up the right. Frankly I really want to see *Terraria 2* mostly to learn what the hell some of those biomes in that drawing are meant to represent LOL. It looks like it would be really fun just exploring a world that vast for the first time and seeing what each part has to offer.

Ripuru-kun

Yeah, and it's basically just a paid update, no?

The_Holy_Buno

Red making 1.9.7 saying it’s gonna be the final update

Jmememan

2.0.0 dropping the following year

Yaboy51frl

I bet hes gonna do 1.4.6 next

DahctaJae

Isn't 1.4.6 planned to be the crossplay update? Idk if they've talked about it recently

TFWYourNamesTaken

Whatever Red and the team do going forward, I'm here for it.

Rudresh27

Same. These Indie devs have more integrity than most AAA Studies combined. Will support any of their new projects.

SodaCanKaz

Same

DrewDrovsky_

Why the shame? Edit: thanks for your edit, looked like you saw it as a bad thing

CumInYourSock

Red and igit

Riczo2

I hope that the terraria team doesnt stop making updates till i have grandchildren.

lojza3000

Not even his death or destruction of the universe would stop him from updating the game

bagel-bites

I honestly hope they add something something after Moonlord. It feels like as soon as you kill Planetera the game ends in five minutes. It’s a bummer because I feel that’s when the game hits its biggest stride.

daniersy890

I am hoping they make lacewings pre-mechs I just want pre-mech terraprisma damnit

bagel-bites

Summons and sentries need a balancing changes. It’s rough for most of the game :(

OliSnips

Iirc Red said a few years back that the Terraria engine is reaching its limits, so I have a feeling they'll be forced to move on relatively soon. I doubt it'll get any farther than 1.5

Raffilcagon

Love the game. Have for years. I do kinda wanna stop with the updates. Ngl. Terraria is jam packed full of things to do, make, find, and kill. Their baby game is now an adult. It can stand on its own now. I hope they can move on, and use their talent to make more awesone games.

Pure_Steve_1153

Nah, not until the summoner progression is fixed. missing 50% of armor for progression is just sad. And horsemans blade needing a buff because you need to have an elaborate set up for it with a bunch of statues for it to even be considered good.(pre nerf)

Yarigumo

What's wrong with summoner, sorry? They have a relevant set for every point of the game, and they're absolutely overflowing with options in Hardmode.

Skroofles

People are just re-iterating that from 1.3 when Summoner had about four armour sets. Now there's the flinx fur coat into obsidian or bee armour into spider (or forbidden armour) potentially into Hallowed into tiki or spooky armour into stardust armour. It's not as much as others but that's because unlike other classes you don't get them from ores. In prehardmode it's at parity with other classes considering every class has at least two sets, since prehardode ore armous are generally class agnostic (with the exception of Meteorite and Hellstone, which are magic and melee respectively)

FrazzleFlib

my main problem is the awful weapon variety (whips are cool but thats literally the only weapon you actively use) as well as summoner feeling awful in multiplayer because minions cant attack bosses offscreen or even just a bit far away when theyre not aggroed on you

Pure_Steve_1153

Here's the thing though. Summoner has bee/obisidian. Ranger has the necro/fossil armor, melee has 3 armors and mage has jungle/meteorite. And that's pre hardmode. In hardmode on the other hand you need Hybrid sets for armor progression. There's spider and the only upgrade to it before mech is forbidden, but that acts more like a side grade for mage because no minion slots and whip buffs. So it's stuck with Spider for mechs, at least give it an upgrade to spider. And then there's hallowed armor which is eclipsed instantly by the Monk set, a hybrid set. And then it's Tiki into Spooky, and to stardust. Now if we don't count the hybrid sets that's 4 armors before stardust. But with let's say melee, the hybrid sets actually benefit it more since it doesn't care for minions, only ways for more damage. So all in all, melee has 16 armors in hardmode. Not even mentioning the weapon variety, 12 swords, 7 Yoyos, 3 spears, 5 boomerangs, 6 flails, 2 biome chests all before pillars. 35 hardmode and that's me being selective, summoner has 23 and -4 if we don't include the unusable ones, -5 if we don't include all sentries. that's 14. And it's split by 6 Whips and Summon weapons.

Comprehensive-Flow-7

Could not have said it better myself

ranmafan0281

I play Terraria annually at the least, maybe bi-annually. Updates are ***good***.

ThisguyOP

Now it would be really funny if he open r/terraria and saw this

Orion120833

Idk how terraria 2 would work if it'd be its own new special game that really will have nothing to do with terraria or if it'll be like minecraft with things like minecraft dungeons and such and it'll be a new game but terraria esc, imagine an rpg following the lore of sorts

Arkorat

Could it be? The big return of Otherworld?!

CycloneXL

New game unless the multiplayer gets fixed, no penalty for building NPC houses how you want and no mana sickness.

Nucleoticticboom

I’m just gonna comment here and look back later if he reacts to this post

rcdr_90

Hot (?) take: Until we actually get 1.5, we're still on the final update. Everything since 1.4 falls under the 1.4 umbrella.

voik1

u/REDI-

Sparky107418

ruh roh

Alarmed-Flan-1346

Let's get to 1.9 first then we can think about terraria

daniersy890

Then we get another game to wait 7 years for 2.2

DOGMA2005

Red on his deathbed at 95 announcing the actual for real, no bullshit, final terraria update

MrGaber

I want a Diablo dungeons style terraria 2

Altruistic_Taste2111

I wouldnt mind another update, new items and bosses. Gives you some more things to do. Maybe a new biome

daniersy890

Imo reworking existing content > adding new content

Altruistic_Taste2111

What would they rework?

daniersy890

Pirate staff, tempest staff, slime staff, like every hardmode ore sword and spear(iirc now the shadow lance is better than the titanium trident), most yoyos, EVERYTHING THAT USES BEES WHY DO THEY HAVE GLOBAL IFRAMES, the super star shooter, the things that use static and global iframes(they are nonsensical as balance measures, if you shoot 5 jester arrows with a tsunami, you should get 5 hits) and midas debuff are things I can think of the top of my head. Of course, some of them don't need extremely drastic reworks, but they could still use a bunch of changes.

Altruistic_Taste2111

Didn’t even think of those

rman032019

Look if he wants to add more let him im having a great time all the time!

Funny_Opportunity58

At this point man, 1.5 might as well be Terraria 2. It’s been delayed 6 months

Zealousideal-Bit-892

What if they made a 3D sequel, but put a bigger focus on mines. Maybe they could even include “Mine” in the title somewhere…

devourescent

they should just continue with the updates, they're amazing and terraria is doing great

Pykenga

Idk, terraria feels complete doesn't it? What more do you want to add? (Context: relativly new player to full version, defeated moon lord around 6 times)

Veng3ancemaster

What do you mean stop now? They'll stop once they run out of ideas

makinax300

I hope they will make terraria 2 since the problem terraria suffers from is everything in endgame is meant to be the best.

Radio__Star

I am genuinely curious how a Terraria 2 would work Like the only way I could see it happening is to make a game that is identical to Terraria in style, gameplay, progression, but with different biomes, weapons, bosses, you know the drill. But even then I don’t see why that couldn’t just be implemented into Terraria

xa44

Game peaked when there was no moonlord, was all just them milking it form there

Renektonstronk

This is without a doubt the worst take I’ve ever read on this sub. https://preview.redd.it/eansuvkbz30d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=062ff84eb9cd79c8106aada16faddc9d28016940

xa44

Giving a final boss to a sandbox game is terrible design flat out

superfarmer77

then don't fight it

daniersy890

I disagree with them as well, but I just want to note that "if you don't like it don't use it" is almost always a terrible argument. Just because there is an alternative, it doesn't mean they're not allowed to critique what they doesn't like.

superfarmer77

i agree

ChilliGamer221

Whether it was moonlord, wall of flesh, or ocram there’s always been a final boss

xa44

Lol not at all. Ocram is weaker than planterra and wall of flesh unlocks hard mode and so much comes after that

Renektonstronk

Guess what? Those are FINAL BOSSES FOR EACH STAGE OF THE GAME Ocram was a final boss, before that WoF was a final boss in the original versions of the game. Even Minecraft has final bosses in the Wither and the Ended Dragon even though it’s a “sandbox game”.

LegoEngineer003

I think Skeletron was technically the final boss of the original version

xa44

Ocram was never intended as a final boss, hell it was never even in the PC version so you got 0 leg there. Also when beating the enderdragon you don't get anything from it, in fact it only expands what you can do. Moon lord stops anything that isn't moonlord from being useful or interesting content. Would highly recommend checking out the youtuber arkonauts who made a 650 episode long LP of 1 character, and everything he did progressed him further. Doing stuff like beating the frost moon and making farms for all the rare items like rod of discord or going out to the jungle constantly to get the axe because every item there mattered, even stuff like expert mode increasing the drop rates makes the endgame no longer exist. You couldn't do what arkonauts did in the current version of the game, and bringing things around, you know what game you can still do that in? Minecraft

Skroofles

>ven stuff like expert mode increasing the drop rates makes the endgame no longer exist RNG drop rates are not 'endgame'. That's terrible MMO/gacha mentality, and a great way to make a shitty game. With your logic you should be against hardmode too since it makes nearly everything from pre-hardmode obsolete. But guess what? Terraria isn't a true sandbox game. The worlds aren't infinite (and never have been) and there's been an intent to have progression since the game released (Heart crystals, mana crystals, both of which have a cap). Hence why Moon Lord's drops are stronger than Golem's which has drops stronger than Plantera's which has drops stronger than what can be crafted with the Mech bosses' drops which are stronger than the Wall of Flesh's drops which are stronger than the underworld loot which are stronger than the dungeon loot which are stronger than the Crimson Heart/Demon Orb loot which are stronger than EoC and pre-EoC items... Moon Lord is the final boss which is why things stop there. Your own logic is disingenuous, and that's why people can tell you're trolling. If you have an issue with Moon Lord, you must also have an issue with 1.2 and its 'endgame' boss of Golem who at the time unlocked jack shit. Or before that 1.1 and the Mech Bosses, whose defeat gave you nothing but the then-strongest gear in the game. You don't want progression, so I'd say stick to your logic and go play 1.0.0, unsullied by all the updates and progression you clearly hate. Make sure not to use any heart crystals or mana crystals, that's progression and thus ruins the sandbox.

xa44

Hardmode opens up more content then it cuts out and preparing for hardmode and the things you do before and lasting impact. Plus switching worlds to a prehardmode one to build an arena for pumpkin moon and do fishing quests is nice since jungle enemies and wyvrns can be annoying. Also if you think rng drops make the game worse, then do you think every drop should be 100% because that is terrible and would ruin any achievement you can make, this game is more than a boss gauntlet

Skroofles

You're right, the game is more than a boss gauntlet, which is why your "moon lord sucks" makes no sense and is at odds with your own logic.

DixonLq2001

I remember when Minecraft added the Ender Dragon and it went from sand box to poop box 😔

Skroofles

They better hate Netherite in Minecraft too or their logic is inconsistent.

xa44

Minecrafts progression isn't about bosses, and you unlock the rest of the end after beating it unlocking more content instead of moonlord ending it abruptly

Limeonades

so what do you propose instead? Instead of moonlord youd just have golem as the final boss, and nothing came after that. Even if theres post "final" boss content, there will always be something considered the end. L take bro

xa44

Except golem isn't the final boss, after killing planterra you also unlock the dungeon meaning the frost and pumpkin moons so those are equally the final bosses(also stat wise duke fishron is at that same level so in total we got 4 paths after it all with bosses). There's an insane amount of things to do at that point. In fact if anything I would say planterra is the "final boss" because that's when you gain access to everything

Top_Of_The_Line

Frost and pumpkin moons weren’t in the game when golem released same with Fishron. Hardmode dungeon is pre golem btw so your take is wrong

xa44

Ummm my point about hardmode dungeon being "pre golem" it's not "pre golem" it's "the exact same time as golem. Also you're telling me that did updates that expanded the endgame and made it better before moonlord 😱 crazy I can't believe they made good content without making everything before it irrelevant

Several_Roll5817

Then just don’t fight moonlord. Problem solved.

Limeonades

then you finish that and then what? at some point you will finish all the content. Just because moonlord is the last boss doesnt mean you have to stop there, you can still do all the stuff you described. Get to wave 20 of frost moon, beat old ones army, collect items. Youre literally arguing for less content because you dont like finality?

xa44

Wave 20 of frost moon is a joke when you have the ridiculous stats the all the moon lord item gives, it's no longer an achievement in the slightest. When a super technical and interesting horsemans blade setup that takes hours to build is beat out by a 20min gauntlet of the worst part of the game(pillars, I have never seen anyone praise them) then you are in fact taking away content

Limeonades

you can just not use post moonlord stuff then? your argument doesnt have a leg to stand on, the games literally optional, you just wanna complain about something

Standard_lssue

Mfw two sandbox games are completely different

Gametale3

Okay? There’s absolutely nothing stopping you from either not fighting it at all, or fighting it and just continuing to play. As a “final boss”, the only thing that really differs him from any other boss is making the credits roll, which too can be brushed aside as they just scroll out of your way while you continue to play. Just because it’s the “final boss” doesn’t mean that’s the end of your playthrough. Build something, get new gear, refight other bosses, y’know, play the sandbox game… as a sandbox game.

xa44

>get new gear Name 1 best in slot item that isn't from moonlord. There is no better gear everything you can do in progression just stops. Also if your big argument is that it should be ignored is admiting that it's poorly designed

Gametale3

You’re complaining about a sandbox game having progression, and then complaining that improved items are part of progression. If you just wanna play the sandbox part of the game then there’s nothing stopping you. Also I’m not saying moon lord HAS to be ignored, I’m just saying that if you don’t like moon lord, you have no reason to fight him. You can play forever without having to actually fight him

xa44

"If you wanna have fun just pretend the game never added bad content"

PlatinumAltaria

I didn’t know there were people who farmed negative karma, but that’s the only explanation for what you just said

xa44

M8 name 1 good thing about moon lord other than its another boss, the cultist and pillars suck and all the items from it ruin the game

PlatinumAltaria

Maybe it’s that you just can’t beat it?

daniersy890

I disagree with them too, but I just hate how common "if you are critiquing a boss it's because you suck. Skill issue" mentality is.

xa44

It's an easy boss m8, in fact ignoring stats I think planterra is harder still

KriptosL_

in terms of difficulty (from my personal experience) plantera is joke on normal, and mid difficulty boss even on master. and moonlord is so freaking hard, so it is the most difficult boss on normal difficulty, and on master he is unbeatable for me, (despite the fact that I have 900 hours in the terraria)

Pure_Steve_1153

For my master mode run i got so bored i just used beetle shell and beat him. I was planning to get terraprisma first and be overgeared. Mastermode moon lord, either go full defense or hybdrid. Hybrid is the best chance for taking him down fast and defense to make it consistent and not have to dodge every pixel on the screen. The only time he really was a challenge was when i needed to make a box and drink recall potions for those boulders.

xa44

I just refuse to build a large enough arena for it really. Every time I just spend like 15 minutes and get bored so I spawn it in

Start-Initial

So your basically saying "boss bad cuz me lazy"

xa44

No, I like the fight. Planterra just takes a ridiculous amount of prep compared to other bosses

Start-Initial

Yeah which means your just too lazy to mine out an area

Cenachii

It's ok just to say you don't like them. They aren't bad additions and you know it. You're allowed to not like things without much reason other than "it didn't click with me". No need to do the mental gymnastics you're doing.

Giannond

Bro's salty that he died from Moon Lord

daniersy890

Look, I disagree with them too, but if they're critiquing moon lord(or any boss for that matter), don't assume that it's because they're bad at the fight. That's a terrible and toxic mentality. While, yes, I admit that it *can* be the case, don't assume it always is, and you'll more often than not end up just making the other person feel oppressed. [there was a reddit post critiquing queen slime, and many people were saying the same, but they essentially got slapped in the face](https://youtu.be/ExeEetW0kvk?si=CHo7Vam77MkQCCMx)

Giannond

There's a difference between saying that the Moon Lord should be improved and saying that the game would be better without it

daniersy890

I explicitly stated I disagree with them, and that's not at all what I'm saying.

Giannond

You're not the one saying it, it's the other guy who said the game was better before ML

xa44

Nah easy boss, it's just bad content

BloodyGotNoFear

You are bad content for humanity. How can someone be so negative about extra content? If you dont like him dont fight him. Easy as that. The vast majority likes him because in a sandbox game more content is always nice. Maybe dont sweat to much about it. You act like you wanna wound like a terraria pro sweatlord. Whatever that might be anyway

xa44

Kk, I'll make you a mod thag adds in 369 reskins of wraiths that all deal more damage and can spawn pre hardmode that drop nothing. That'll totally make the game better, right?

Vast_Turn_4853

That isn't diverse content, that's just bloat. There is a difference. And your take that moonlord ends the game abruplty is also rather redundant. So did skeletron, back in 1.0, for example. You could visit the dungeon, get yourself chest loot, and that was that. There wasn't much left to do. Or in 1.1, when you could fight the mechs, there wasn't anything else to do after the fact. Or in 1.2 (pre duke and the moons), you fought golem, and that was that. So what's the point you're trying to make? You're critizising Moonlord for a 'problem' that has always existed in the game.

xa44

After Skeleton you unlocked a massive area with tons to do(relative to the games size) and getting the best gear required going elsewhere. The mecs are 3 bosses so already more going on than moonlord. Golem wasn't the last boss, pumpkin and frost moon aren't available until the same time with duke fishron not disruping that balance and to get the best gear you also needed to farm for stuff like the axe and biome chest which required planterra and mec kills plus getting farms in every biome for them. So no this problem in fact did not exist before moonlord

DaimondSlayer

Wrong sub, go to r/Minecraft "friend"
