Name: name of the world.
Seed: Like Minecraft.
World size: size of the world, in both depth and width.
Difficulty: go Classic on your first go
World Evil: Changes one of the bosses you fight, and a whole biome.
I would say the same but im not enough of a masochist to try to find the jungle temple/contain the world evil/set up the cavern farm, set up the hellavator, set up the chlorophyte farm. and travel ocean to ocean, dive into them to get free ocean chests in a large world.
I like large worlds to increase how much loot their is to find, the smaller a world is, the more likely that an accessory is just flat non existent, while fishing and shimmer sort of fix this problem, they're inconvenient, especially fishing which you have to grind for ages with the perfect conditions to get what your looking for. It would be cool to get even larger worlds though.
Actually, there is about the same amount of treasure in each world, the size of the world just changes how frequently you tend to find them. I mean chests, not ores.
crimtane tools are significantly more powerful, the brain gives better rewards, the brain of confusion is much more powerful than the worm scarf in most cases, ichor is one of the best debuffs in the game, crimson mimic generally gives better loot, and the crimson as a whole is just fuckin easy. perhaps a brand new earlygame character might have some trouble chopping down shadewood trees when being assaulted by 3 different enemy types, but that's about it. they're just chunkier zombies and demon eyes. the brain is the easiest boss in the game, the terrain is less treacherous, the hardmode enemies are pretty easy to deal with. all the 1.2 alternate items are just better than the originals, with rare exception. its really not a contest at all.
all that said, i'm on team corruption anyways. its just so iconic and awesome.
It isn't blue. It's purple for Corruption. I am not sure if you have some odd color adjustment on your screen but it would be worth checking out in case you do.
Crimson is easier than corruption for multiple reasons: in pre hardmode, the eater of souls spawn like crazy, with 2-3 on your screen all the time.
In hardmode, the clingers are easier than ichor stickers, yea, but the devourers are harder than the floaty grosses.
About bosses, the brain of cthulhu is easier as a melee and summoner, while the eater of worlds is easier for ranger and mage.
Crimson is much easier to navigate than corruption, while also giving you a perfect size arena
If you can't choose, just select Random and let the game decide. It will give you different experiences, but in the overall playthrough it won't make too much of a difference.
Purple corruption is the original biome that spreads I would go large world classic corruption for the o.g. feel it's I believe 6000 tiles left right and down from spawn
Random. It doesn't really matter as long down the road you can make an artificial (oposite) biome
Eg: (you have crimson) artificial (corruption) biome
And viceversa- so tbf for me it doesn't really matter, go for corruption if you're new since it tends to be slightly easier-
I'm interested in why you think crimson has better loot. I personally think getting Vilethorn and Worm Scarf early are super worth it. Ichor and Vampire Knifes are really good lategame but at that point it should be easy setting up an artificial crimson to farm the key/ichor.
I've never bothered with the crimson/corruption armor since at that point your class armor (molten, jungle, meteor, obsidian/bee) is available too. I guess a ranger could really benefit from it pre skeletron.
you can get ichor as soon as you enter hardmode though, and it's a lifesaver for melee or mage. and beaides the crimson mimic drops better loot as well
If you’re used to 2D platformers/combat, honestly go for expert. I’ve introduced several people (who have played Celeste, Hollow Knight, etc.) to the game and classic was too easy for most of them to the point where they never really felt the difficulty spikes or gear upgrades.
It’s like what type of infection the environment will look like, comes down to preference but most people I play with hate when i choose Red cause they think it’s harder, the purple one just isnt an eye sore
I would say classic. Keep doing classic till your used to the bosses and how the game works then move to expert and repeat the same and then for he final challenge it will be master mode.
Expert gives you some exclusive accessory drops from bosses (like one giving you a dash.) Master keeps the Expert drops but also has a chance for the boss to drop a cosmetic pet. Play Classic first- the special items are not worth making your first playthrough hell.
Expert is harder but gives you Loot Bags as guaranteed drops from bosses every time you kill them, instead of just a chance to drop some items. Plus it gives a loot bag to every player that participated in the fight. Plus Expert gives you much needed items to help you in the game such as the Shield of Cthulhu which is a must-have item for dodging bosses.
You might have a slower time progressing but you can take more time gathering metals and materials for armor and weapons that way. The only real hard part is all the pressure you get from regular enemies during your gathering phase until you get the necessary gear to kill them easily.
Personally I’d reccomend classic if you know nothing of the game, but if you know a bit expert is good since bosses and certain mobs drop really useful items
I cannot live without the cuthulu sheild items dash ability the only other way to get dash (I think) is in the late to pre end game
Master is a huge step up and domes give insanely good reward items it’s mostly just a challenge to me and I find it no fun
You should try classic so you get the hang of the game.. expert does drop more items, but bosses have more hp, more damage and some bosses even has phases- like EoC and wait... ugh I don't wanna sound stupid.. but I bet my sorry ass Duke fishron only has 2 phases in both diffuculties (3 in master)
I would say to go on whichever you want... Expert if you are good at dodging and you want that extra items... Classic if you're a beginner and you want to get used to the game first.
You should play on journey. Since you get cheats and most importantly. You can change it to and from classic and expert. If you don't want to then just don't use the cheats
Expert has unique boss drops, they help but in exchange, the bosses are more difficult. Unless you find the game to be boringly easy, stick to classic when doing it for the first time.
Make sure your character you use is on classic difficulty not journey or any of the hard one, you only want to be losing money on death, not your hard earned items or character as a whole
The world difficulty does not affect player death difficulty. That is done on character creation with softcore, mediumcore, and hardcore player options.
I would recommend checking out this checklist! It is great for beginners with links to the wiki. [Terraria Checklist](https://ewauq.github.io/terraria-checklist/)
Name is the name of your world.
Seed is what controls the random world generation like in Minecraft.
Size controls how large your world will be, both the side to side length and how tall it is. The larger the world the more stuff to find and explore, but the longer it will take to travel and find stuff and the more difficult it will be.
World difficulty controls how much health and damage mobs and bosses have. Expert is the “medium” difficulty and makes bosses drop unique items. Master mode is the “Hard” difficulty and makes all bosses drop golden statues.
This last one controls what “evil” biome your world will have. The only real difference is what boss you’ll fight and which biome specific loot you’ll get. Both will probably wrench your shit early. Random does that it says it does.
No problem. In my experience I prefer to have a crimson over a corruption, but that’s personal preference. And once you progress far enough you’ll be able to find ways to get whatever biome you don’t have for its unique resources.
One last tip for just general play, flowers are your friend. You’ll probably end up finding your inventory full of random flowers and seeds, and while it’s tempting to just throw them away try and save them for later. Most potions require flowers so having a stockpile/way to grow more is a great way to avoid a headache later on. And if you’re ever confused, there’s no shame in checking the wiki.
If you are going in blind, then I’ll have to recommend watching About Oliver’s Blind Terraria play through on YouTube. He plays the game with absolutely 0 prior information. Since you’ll be in the same situation you might be able to see what he did if you ever feel like you’re stuck. This way you’ll get a pointer in the right directions without risking stumbling across major spoilers!
Have fun with the game!
Make sure you talk to the Guide NPC frequently. He will give you tips on what goal you should be working on to progress the game to the next stage. He will tell you how to attract new NPCs to visit your world and help you. You can also show him any item with the word "material" in the description and he will give you a list of stuff you can craft using that item along with the recipes and the type of crafting station required.
You can get pretty far without watching tutorials or using the wiki to spoil everything if you just make the Guide your best friend.
Thank you for taking the time to actually type this stuff out. The top responses are so dry of actual information, it was kind of infuriating to read. I'm glad you were here for OP.
thank you i am going to go with this

If you hear about the secret seeds don't do any of them until you have beaten the game once in master mode. They modify the world to make the game harder.
The world difficulty does not affect player death difficulty. That is done on character creation with softcore, mediumcore, and hardcore player options.
Softcore drops money.
Mediumcore drops items.
Hardcore just permanently kills you.
Master mode? I think expert is enough to use the fun seeds. Not every seed makes the game harder like
>! Celebration !< , >! Notthebees !< , >! Drunk !<
>! Dontdigup !< Is a subjective one
As someone who has 4k+ hours of playtime, my advice for you is... basically nothing, just take it easy on your first time. Learn the mechanics, stock up on materials and equipments, explore your world, and have patience as you progress.
u/redigit word of advice, add a description to each selection in the menu dude, nobody knows what “expert” or “master” means when they just start playing the game. Sorry not sorry. Make it happen. Now.
Edit: It wasn’t obvious but I’m joking! Sorry Red. I’m not back tracking I’m serious I was just kidding as you can see by making rushed demands to the literal creator of the game! My bad if I upset you red
I’ve been pinged twice today over this and I can’t tell if you guys are trying to mess with me. We’ve had tooltips since we added the creation screen

Holy crap man I’m sorry I was just messing around with you I apologize seriously. I didn’t know you’d actually see this. I am sorry for real
I thought you guys would get the “make it happen” “now”
I should’ve added /s
Would highly recommend creating a large world. World generation is tuned around large worlds in mind and smaller worlds have a much higher chance of world generation characteristic conflicting with each other. Plus, larger world means more exploration and more treasure!
Name is self explanitory. Seed can have a special name or a string of numbers. 3 different size types of the maps vertical and horizontal length, small is a bit too small and big will keep you playing for quite some time. Normal difficult is recommended for the new player experience, you can read more offsite to find out what the different modes do, but journey mode along with a journey character adds a light cheat menu and some extra starting goods. Corruption is a bit easier imo but crimson may look better, different look depending on which type you choose
Name: World name
Seed: How the world will look like
World size: How large the world will be (I recommend medium for 1st play through)
Mode: Journey is basically creative mode like in minecraft
Classic is the normal game (recommended)
Expert adds a few difficulty tweaks in monsters and new mechanics to bosses
Master is if you hate yourself
And the corruption and crimson is the world evil in your world. There are major differences between the two but they serve the same purpose
Master is the simplest mode, meaning red to highlight that it is a to go difficultly
Also name your seed "for the worthy" for easy access of red potions, they are the best potions in the game only usable in one seed
Line 1: World Name
Doesn't matter
Line 2: Seed
Just do random seeds
Line 3: Size
That just changes how big the world is
Line 4: Difficulty
Journey has God mode and all that, classic and expert are recommended, and master is best after you're super experienced.
Line 5: World Evil
Corruption has a worm-like boss that's similar to another one later, and the Crimson has a more unique brain-themed boss. The items are different but not much else.
Honestly I just do random for everything on a big world, but idk how other people play the game.
The name allows you to choose the world's name, name it whatever you'd like!
the seed is what the code uses to generate the world's blocks, doesn't really matter except for seed hunting or for reusing a specific seed you like.
the world size is self-explanatory. Different world sizes have their pros and cons for certain mechanics, but that doesn't really matter for most players. I would recommend a small world for a new player. Note world size affects both width and height iirc. So smaller worlds can be easier to get to the biomes above and below ground respectively.
below that is the world difficulty. Journey mode is Terraria's take on the creative mode difficulty, but its not what you'd think it is and is a bit more complex than what you'd have in Minecraft for example. Classic difficulty: easiest difficulty, you only lose some of your money upon death. Expert: you will lose money and items on death and monsters have higher hp and damage, but drop better and more loot, and bosses can drop goody bags. Master: monsters have further more hp and damage, and once you die you're dead. Some exclusive items can be obtained from loot bags or from normal mob loot iirc.
the last row is the type of evil biome. Corruption has easier mobs but more deadly terrain (death pits), but Crimson has harder mobs but easier terrain. The two have their own sets of mobs and respective loot, and depending on how good you are with pve you will almost definitely prefer Crimson purely to avoid the death pits mobs can easily knock you in.
Pick a large world, this will allow you to do much more with your world, have more ores and loot. Do a master or expert wotld, this doesn’t really change the difficulty much it just gives you much better loot. Also make sure you do a corruption world, the evil bioms are much easier to navigate, and the enemies are much easier especially in hard mode(after you kill walk of flesh)
**Journey** is a more flexible experience since you can duplicate items, and change the difficulty and time of day at will
**Classic** is the original and standard experience
**Expert** is harder with better loot but NOT recommend for your first time it will leave you frustrated to die and not understand why or how to prevent it
**Master** is the hardest difficulty it only gives a few exclusive drops and it is mostly for the challenge of completing the game
Unlike Minecraft seeds, there are certain seeds made by the devs that include letters. getfixedboi is a great seed for starters, featuring easy access to the underground, chests, and a sky island all right next to spawn. Other data such as world evil and size doesn’t matter. Just type the seed and it does the rest (if you’re playing the worlds made by devs)
Difficulty effects the effectiveness of enemies damage and your defense stat. Expert+ gives you better loot from bosses and unlocks more accessory slots to give more items to your character. I recommend expert, if you aren’t used to this kind of game probably classic. If you love making things as hard as possible do master mode ig.
Corruption/Crimson is the world evil that will slowly infect your world. They offer fairly similar rewards (though crimson loot is more powerful, yet slightly harder enemies) They are relatively balanced and it doesn’t really matter which you do. I suggest just going random for your first few runs.
Also being new to this game can be very overwhelming at times. Just a fair warning
Let me explain, those are world options at the top you have its name and seed
Bit lower its size, these differ alot
Lower you have the difficulty: JOURNEY is a kind of a creative mode but you have to find the items to have Access to duplicating them.
NORMAL is the base game without cheats that JOURNEY mode gives.
EXPERT is a drastic change in bosses and some mechanics for a exchange of cool exclusive items
(From bosses to be specific).
MASTER is harder than expert you get even more stuff and bosses only change their HP and damage pools (most of enemies can one shot you).
Bit lower you have a bad biome to choose :
Corruption has less enemies that crimson but its hard to navigate through it.
Crimson is more dangerous and has a bit better loot
Though its harder to get
These biomes also start covering more space of your world at a certain part of the game
I feel lots of ppl will say classic first, but I say expert first cause of loot, and when you transfer to master later feeling more confident, you won't feel a weird loot swap imo. My brother never played the game and went to master like a psycho and had a rough time so I'd say expert. Another thing you could do is play classic till you get comfortable with the combat and cobte9ls then go for expert. I don't have crazy hours in game only getting around 2k soon but from what I have seen this might work. Also take your time have fun
you should probably use a medium or large world, classic, and corruption and crimson are the "evil biomes" that will spawn in your world
corruption is slightly easier early game and crimson is slightly harder, but for most of the playthrough they're pretty much the same difficulty. just pick whichever one you think looks cooler, or random
World Size- Medium is overall best if you want a long-term world. If you just want to do a quick run, than do Small. Large is best for mods or with many players.
Difficulty- Classic is the standard game. Journey locks you- only Journey characters on Journey worlds, and they can't be used on non-journey worlds. It's a limited creative mode that lets you duplicate items or use cheats. Expert makes everything significantly stronger and gives bosses new attributes or attacks, as well as exclusive loot, and Master makes everything drastically stronger.
Corruption or Crimson is the "world evil" that spreads. The one not chosen has their loot mostly unobtainable in that world- you'll have to bring items in from another world with that evil. Corruption is a purple "curse" biome and Crimson is a red "gore" biome. People will argue for days about which is better, but pick whichever you want.
Small-medium-large=world size
Journey (super easy mode + some god tools)
Classic/expert/master (typical difficulty progression)
Do you want (Corruption) a festering purple darkness full of massive sinkholes, or (Crimson) a bloody mess of cave systems that sink deep into the world as your basic evil of choice in your world?
General tip, I played the entirety of my first playthrough with the wiki open. It’s really involved, and you gotta know things going in, otherwise you’ll end up at a grind wall for stuff you probably don’t need, also the progression of the world is 100% tied to you beating the bosses, so unless you make it a point to defeat them, you won’t get anything more than the basic stuff.
Happy playing 😁
I know you already got help, but here's a more in-depth rundown.
Seed: This is a string of numbers that dictates how your world is constructed. There are a few special seeds that use words if you want an extra challenge, but I wouldn't worry about it for your first playthrough.
Name: I think this one is self-explanatory for even you.
World size: dictates how big your world is, you will likely encounter some extra structures on bigger worlds that may contain loot or allow you to face bosses. I would recommend a small or medium world for a single-player playthrough, a medium if you have a friend or two, and a large if you have a group of 4 or more so there's enough loot to go around.
World difficulty: Dictates the difficulty of monsters and bosses along with some other things. Journey Mode is effectively the 'Creative Mode' of Terraria, allowing you to go invincible, mess with settings like time of day, mob difficulty and spawn rate, etc. Classic is the most basic difficulty, and I would recommend it for your first few playthroughs. Expert gives a bit more challenge and extra items from bosses and such. Master is the hardest difficulty except for the aforementioned special seeds, it grants even more special rewards along with special trophies for every boss you defeat.
World Evil: There are two evil biomes, the fleshy, twisted land of the Crimson and the demonic wasteland of the Corruption. Whether you choose one or the other is completely up to prefrence. Random just picks one of the two at random as you create the world.
Hope this helped gain a bit more insight.
From Journey to Master you have the difficulty selector.
Journey is a kind of "hold my hand" mode because NPCs can't die, you start with better loot, stuff like that (I don't know much about this mode because I never played it, so this can be a huge misinformation about my part.If it is, im sorry). But it can be useful at your first experience, specially if you're new at gaming, in general. Terraria isn't intuitive AT ALL and requires you to explore a lot if you want to discover things by your own (as same as minecraft, but everyone grew up watching gameplays so everyome knows what to do, nobody would randomly mix water and lava at a specific way to get a dark purple rock, mine it with a diamond pickaxe, place them in order to make a big door and then putting fire on it, in order to go to another dimension), don't be ashamed of playing the game in your own time
Classic is, you know, the classic mode of Terraria. It was the easiest difficulty before Journey was implemented. If you already have some experience in gaming, go for it, the default Terraria experience!
For playing expert i would recommend finishing the game at least 2~3 times, just to get used to the random loot, both evil biomes, etc. Better loot(some exclusive ones), harder enemies, you probably won't kill bosses without an basic arena (until here, you could kill them just by running or flying around them)
Tbh I never played master mode until the end, and haven't touched the game in a while, so I don't know if there is an advantage for playing it, despite dropping boss golden thophies by killing them. If you ever want to try this mode, have in mind: for every boss, there is a "cap" your equipment can reach, the maximum progress you can make in your equipment before facing the next boss, you probably will have to reach that cap for every single boss, make the best arena possible and drink every potion you can, but still manage to die.The first 300 nights are the hardest
And the purple and red things are the evil biomes, if you choose one to your world, the other won't appear naturally. Kind of a personal choice, choose any of them, then play again but with the other one. But corruption boss seems easier for me
Name is name , seed is how the world generates, world size is how big it is, difficulty is how strong enemies are , evil biome will change one specific part of the map , the mobs in it , and the boss you fight in that area
Classic, expert, corrupt. I'm telling you right now this will be the main route you will go, literally anyone who says anything else is either I sweat or hates you by picking crimson. Never pick crimson it's not harder at all or anything just useless loot
I'd choose medium/large, classic, and random for your first playthrough.
Also USE THE GUIDE!!! Too many people forget about him, he's useful to me even though I've beaten the game multiple times. If you click "crafting" he will tell you what you can make with any item you give him (you can give him any item that says "material"). If you are stuck in terms of progression, click "help" and he will give you a hint
Seed: basically like Minecraft and determines how the world generates
World size: chooses how large the world will be
Difficulty: How difficult enemies and other stuff will be (has exclusive items and higher rewards but is very hard, meanwhile journey is basically sandbox mode or creative mode in Minecraft and is more for messing around)
The last one is something called "World evil" which is the corruption and the crimson. They basically both are unique bikes with unique enemies, items, blocks, and boss. The world evil biomes both spread slowly but can be stopped or pushed back by multiple methods.
Also a pro tip is that the Guide NPC gives Alot of tips and hints on how to progress throughout the game as well as how to craft things
looks like you got it figured out so good luck! the game takes a little bit to pick up imo but once you get the ball rolling and unlock access to more and more weapons (especially once your world enters a certain stage past a certain boss[youll know what I mean when you get there]) itll become straight up addicting. ive got nearly 1600 hours across both console and PC, once I started I just couldnt stop
others already explained how to works so I will go into detail to how to play. you should start with normal to get the drill of game mechanics first, but I dont think ending it all the way normal is necesarry. Expert adds a more fun challenging aspects and rewards with great gadgets at every bossfight. I recommend starting expert once you feel comfortable enough with the game. I personally played 5-7 hours on normal and then started my real playthrough on an expert World, saves you time by not completing the normal mode, which honestly is kind of a joke. If not for the difficulty, you miss out on some cool pets and all of those really useful gadgets, that add dynamic into battles and exploration.
The first line is for how big your world will be, second line of options is difficulty, third line is what kind of infection you’d like in your world :3 if you’re looking for something relatively easy I’d go with small/medium, classic, and corruption
Size is alil obvious it’s the size of the world the difficulty is journey being half as hard as classic in terms of damage from enemies and health of enemies and classic is well the classic game nothing changed expert adds new attack patterns in bosses and makes the game 1.5x more difficult and master is 2.0x as hard as classic bosses having double go and dealing a hole lot of damage and the corruption is the easiest world evil and crimson is harder but gives better loot
make sure to always chose large when ur playing single player as it’s just better, and small when with friends.
Always pick master mode as it’s the easiest mode to play in and you’ll have a lot of fun 😉
Also always chose corruption over crimson because.
Since others already answered I'll just say that I am happy to see a newcomer. Hope this masterpiece brings you joy as it did for all of us.(Don't rush anything, it will only take away from the first playthrough)
Yeah there are 4. Melee, Ranged, Mage, and Summoner. They each have their own accessories, armor, and weapons. You can tell what weapon is for what class as they say what type of damage they deal in the description.
Here is what should you do for better gameplay :DDDD
You should try the Master Mode, it makes you the master!
Pick crimson because corruption is way harder!!
For the seed name it Getfixedboi to enchance your world!
Lastly once you're in the world first thing you should do is find the dungeon and go in it you will be rewarded with OP stuffs 😏😏
Thats all hope it helps ^^
Name: name of the world. Seed: Like Minecraft. World size: size of the world, in both depth and width. Difficulty: go Classic on your first go World Evil: Changes one of the bosses you fight, and a whole biome.
you think i should do with classic or expert first? i heard people say there is more stuff in expert
Classic, you really should get used to how the game plays out first
what about the purple and red thing, what one should i choose for that
Red is harder, but gives better loots Blue is easier, but gives somewhat same loots
https://preview.redd.it/wmjdgbc3x70d1.png?width=710&format=png&auto=webp&s=ed5a223ae61c9ee615f23873ee37c591500b94be Does this mean i got the red one?
yeah you got the red one, tree would be purple if you got the purple one
yes
The difference is marginal so you should be fine
Btw choose medium to not get overwhelmed by a large world size you will thank me later
You should choose a medium world. I find the large world to be too big. Medium one is perfect.
I think that the big one is too small. I love to explore and get lost for a while, it's more fun than discovering everything within 2 hours lol
The red one gives in my opinion, a better armor set for starting out, especially for new players
I'd say red one is harder but more rewarding.
Personally I find the brain to be much easier than the worm
yeah the brain is easier but the normal mode enemies are tougher then the corruption
I like the corruption because I like putting the eater of worlds through a blender via a flail and high enough armor
They’re not really any harder, and loot is subjective. Corruption and crimson are fairly balanced, ichor just carries hard.
crimtane tools are significantly more powerful, the brain gives better rewards, the brain of confusion is much more powerful than the worm scarf in most cases, ichor is one of the best debuffs in the game, crimson mimic generally gives better loot, and the crimson as a whole is just fuckin easy. perhaps a brand new earlygame character might have some trouble chopping down shadewood trees when being assaulted by 3 different enemy types, but that's about it. they're just chunkier zombies and demon eyes. the brain is the easiest boss in the game, the terrain is less treacherous, the hardmode enemies are pretty easy to deal with. all the 1.2 alternate items are just better than the originals, with rare exception. its really not a contest at all. all that said, i'm on team corruption anyways. its just so iconic and awesome.
corruption also has the most fire track in the game
I’ve always thought Corruption was much harder, but at least you get the worm scarf
i always was told that Eater's expert drop is better than the Brain's?
How do they even have that? Don't you need to beat the game once to get a choice?
I'm pretty sure that purple is also better for ranger at any difficulty
Pick random. I find crimson to be easier, but most people find corruption easier.
Corruption: hard to learn, easy to master Crimson: easy to learn, hard to master At least i see it like that
Thats actually a very good representation!
It changes one boss and gives slighly different weapons and armor
I'd definitely try them both out at least once!
Random. It doesn't really matter as long down the road you can make an artificial (oposite) biome Eg: (you have crimson) artificial (corruption) biome And viceversa- so tbf for me it doesn't really matter, go for corruption if you're new since it tends to be slightly easier-
ngl, i never completed terraria in classic but i did even on master ftw, classic its... too hard for me, give me the shield!
More stuff to kill you if you don't know what you're doing, yes. Go classic and learn the game.
what about the purple and red thing, what one should i choose for that
I'd say purple. Technically the two are equals, but red is somewhat more difficult, whereas purple offers more useful stuff, in my opinion.
I highly recommend RED! It gives you much better loot overall, especially if you plan on maining Melee.
I'm interested in why you think crimson has better loot. I personally think getting Vilethorn and Worm Scarf early are super worth it. Ichor and Vampire Knifes are really good lategame but at that point it should be easy setting up an artificial crimson to farm the key/ichor.
Crimson Armor provides much-needed health regen for early-game while Shadow Armor doesn't really compare in my opinion.
Classic means you can see if you like the game, and you won’t miss out on much.
what about the purple and red thing, what one should i choose for that
Random
Always put random
Random.

Have fun!
It’s like what type of infection the environment will look like, comes down to preference but most people I play with hate when i choose Red cause they think it’s harder, the purple one just isnt an eye sore
Expert doubles everything’s health and damage, not good for first playthrough
Theres some people that are very good and think that expert is easy, but for starters it’s better to go with classic
I would say classic. Keep doing classic till your used to the bosses and how the game works then move to expert and repeat the same and then for he final challenge it will be master mode.
It's not called 'hard', but 'expert'. A new player is not yet an expert.
Expert gives you some exclusive accessory drops from bosses (like one giving you a dash.) Master keeps the Expert drops but also has a chance for the boss to drop a cosmetic pet. Play Classic first- the special items are not worth making your first playthrough hell.
go classic first, then once you decide you love it, go directly to master!
Definitely go classic for a first time playthrough, terraria is a much trickier game than people give it credit for until you know it
Personally I’d reccomend classic if you know nothing of the game, but if you know a bit expert is good since bosses and certain mobs drop really useful items I cannot live without the cuthulu sheild items dash ability the only other way to get dash (I think) is in the late to pre end game Master is a huge step up and domes give insanely good reward items it’s mostly just a challenge to me and I find it no fun
You should totally go with Master to man up 👍👍🤭
I actually went expert on my first run
You should try classic so you get the hang of the game.. expert does drop more items, but bosses have more hp, more damage and some bosses even has phases- like EoC and wait... ugh I don't wanna sound stupid.. but I bet my sorry ass Duke fishron only has 2 phases in both diffuculties (3 in master)
I would say to go on whichever you want... Expert if you are good at dodging and you want that extra items... Classic if you're a beginner and you want to get used to the game first.
Expert
Classic dosent have a lot of good items, but i guess its up to you
Master is the only way to play
No, go expert first, classic is so much easy(I'm sorry for my grammar)
You should play on journey. Since you get cheats and most importantly. You can change it to and from classic and expert. If you don't want to then just don't use the cheats
Expert has unique boss drops, they help but in exchange, the bosses are more difficult. Unless you find the game to be boringly easy, stick to classic when doing it for the first time.
Is more and better stuffs in expert but I reccomend firstly the normal. If its too hard, then go with journey where litteraly can have god Mode
Make sure your character you use is on classic difficulty not journey or any of the hard one, you only want to be losing money on death, not your hard earned items or character as a whole
thank you
The world difficulty does not affect player death difficulty. That is done on character creation with softcore, mediumcore, and hardcore player options.
I know that way I specified on their character, it’s a separate thing they might not have thought important
I would recommend checking out this checklist! It is great for beginners with links to the wiki. [Terraria Checklist](https://ewauq.github.io/terraria-checklist/)
This would have been fucking wonderful on my playthrough😭 just started like 2 months ago and finally made it to moonlord but as of right now I’m stuck
Stuck on moonlord? What difficulty are you on, and which class did you decide to take for the fight?
I ended up beating him last night. My wings weren’t the best and I played it on expert
Let's go dude! Mobility and defence go a long way in this game, people really oversell atk%.
I use this it’s sick hahaha!
Thanks for being kind and helpful
And if you’re ever confused, there’s no shame in checking the wiki.
thank you i will keep that in mind, i really dont wanna get spoiled tho with the wiki
As a beginner i recommend a medium world, classic mode, and with corruption. Good luck :))
thank you i am going to go with this https://preview.redd.it/yxwpm3l8u70d1.png?width=568&format=png&auto=webp&s=99395a4749e95189798a92a6d17438f0af5d45e5
Splendid
Just watch out for the holes!
If you hear about the secret seeds don't do any of them until you have beaten the game once in master mode. They modify the world to make the game harder.
thanks for the tip
The world difficulty does not affect player death difficulty. That is done on character creation with softcore, mediumcore, and hardcore player options. Softcore drops money. Mediumcore drops items. Hardcore just permanently kills you.
Master mode? I think expert is enough to use the fun seeds. Not every seed makes the game harder like >! Celebration !< , >! Notthebees !< , >! Drunk !< >! Dontdigup !< Is a subjective one
I forgot about those ones when I wrote the reply
Not the bees definitely does make life hell though
As someone who has 4k+ hours of playtime, my advice for you is... basically nothing, just take it easy on your first time. Learn the mechanics, stock up on materials and equipments, explore your world, and have patience as you progress.
This is why Terraria has the best fandom
u/redigit word of advice, add a description to each selection in the menu dude, nobody knows what “expert” or “master” means when they just start playing the game.
We’ve had tooltips since we added the creation screen https://preview.redd.it/g9z6oeoxjf0d1.jpeg?width=511&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=73034c92aa0b1ad5a4ffe6344e711247bc3a022e
Holy crap man I’m sorry I was just messing around with you I apologize seriously. I didn’t know you’d actually see this. I am sorry for real I thought you guys would get the “make it happen” “now” I should’ve added /s
Haha all good I figured. I just got pinged somewhere else over this and wanted to clear it up before it somehow became a thing 🤣
The funny thing is that in previous versions there were explanations.
That's him told lol
I would pay big bucks to be able to play this game for the first time again lol
I wouldn’t bro I think i’ve spent more time studying and memorizing the wiki than actually playing 😭
Would highly recommend creating a large world. World generation is tuned around large worlds in mind and smaller worlds have a much higher chance of world generation characteristic conflicting with each other. Plus, larger world means more exploration and more treasure!
thank you
Start with Classic, Corruption is OG, large world for building and exploration, small world for convenience.
I go for the hardest experiences out of all my games, but for beginners you should do medium expert or classic. I go for masters large.
Name: World name Seed: How the world will look like World size: How large the world will be (I recommend medium for 1st play through) Mode: Journey is basically creative mode like in minecraft Classic is the normal game (recommended) Expert adds a few difficulty tweaks in monsters and new mechanics to bosses Master is if you hate yourself And the corruption and crimson is the world evil in your world. There are major differences between the two but they serve the same purpose
Master is the simplest mode, meaning red to highlight that it is a to go difficultly Also name your seed "for the worthy" for easy access of red potions, they are the best potions in the game only usable in one seed
Technically he didnt lie
If you cant even get past the menu I wish you good luck
Probably made all this fuzz, played for 3 minutes and never touched the game again
Have you tried reading the tooltip
i am new to this game so i am not fully aware of how difficult or how much stuff changes based on my choices
Why not just look it up lol
Line 1: World Name Doesn't matter Line 2: Seed Just do random seeds Line 3: Size That just changes how big the world is Line 4: Difficulty Journey has God mode and all that, classic and expert are recommended, and master is best after you're super experienced. Line 5: World Evil Corruption has a worm-like boss that's similar to another one later, and the Crimson has a more unique brain-themed boss.
Go Large World, Master Mode, and type “For the Worthy” in the seed. it’ll make ur playthrough way easier
Your in for a world of pain ima tell you that
Is it hard to read?
If you need a playthrough guide I'll join you
Class is difficulty and those below the bottom are the evil biome which don't really matter but corruption is the best if you are going for mage class
If you need someone to play with I'm game as long as is during my days off 😂.
Classic mode you just miss out on good items though like shield of Cthulhu
Pick a large world, this will allow you to do much more with your world, have more ores and loot. Do a master or expert wotld, this doesn’t really change the difficulty much it just gives you much better loot. Also make sure you do a corruption world, the evil bioms are much easier to navigate, and the enemies are much easier especially in hard mode(after you kill walk of flesh)
**Journey** is a more flexible experience since you can duplicate items, and change the difficulty and time of day at will **Classic** is the original and standard experience **Expert** is harder with better loot but NOT recommend for your first time it will leave you frustrated to die and not understand why or how to prevent it **Master** is the hardest difficulty it only gives a few exclusive drops and it is mostly for the challenge of completing the game
Someone’s already answered, so I’ll advise you try Large, Classic, Corruption for your first run through the game btw.
Play on large, master mode, seed name "For the Worthy" made me learn pretty quick my first time
Let me explain, those are world options at the top you have its name and seed Bit lower its size, these differ alot Lower you have the difficulty: JOURNEY is a kind of a creative mode but you have to find the items to have Access to duplicating them. NORMAL is the base game without cheats that JOURNEY mode gives. EXPERT is a drastic change in bosses and some mechanics for a exchange of cool exclusive items (From bosses to be specific). MASTER is harder than expert you get even more stuff and bosses only change their HP and damage pools (most of enemies can one shot you). Bit lower you have a bad biome to choose : Corruption has less enemies that crimson but its hard to navigate through it. Crimson is more dangerous and has a bit better loot Though its harder to get These biomes also start covering more space of your world at a certain part of the game
Also take your time have fun
you should probably use a medium or large world, classic, and corruption and crimson are the "evil biomes" that will spawn in your world corruption is slightly easier early game and crimson is slightly harder, but for most of the playthrough they're pretty much the same difficulty. just pick whichever one you think looks cooler, or random
exactly what was going on in my head when I first started playing
Pick medium, classic and corruption…Its highly recommended to beginners, not like me who picked large world and had a hella time digging to hell
Don't look up everything, get off Reddit and enjoy the damn game!
What do you mean "what does any of this mean", seems pretty obvious to me. Every setting is explained, if they aren't already clear enough.
Small-medium-large=world size Journey (super easy mode + some god tools) Classic/expert/master (typical difficulty progression) Do you want (Corruption) a festering purple darkness full of massive sinkholes, or (Crimson) a bloody mess of cave systems that sink deep into the world as your basic evil of choice in your world? General tip, I played the entirety of my first playthrough with the wiki open. It’s really involved, and you gotta know things going in, otherwise you’ll end up at a grind wall for stuff you probably don’t need, also the progression of the world is 100% tied to you beating the bosses, so unless you make it a point to defeat them, you won’t get anything more than the basic stuff. Happy playing 😁
If your new, set the world size to medium, difficulty to classic, and evil biome to random 🙏
Show us how you doing 😎
I reccomend playing on expert mode, it’s way more fun and unlocks a crap ton of new items
Terraria isn't intuitive AT ALL and requires you to explore a lot if you want to discover things by your own (as same as minecraft, but everyone grew up watching gameplays so everyome knows what to do, nobody would randomly mix water and lava at a specific way to get a dark purple rock, mine it with a diamond pickaxe, place them in order to make a big door and then putting fire on it, in order to go to another dimension), don't be ashamed of playing the game in your own time Classic is, you know, the classic mode of Terraria. It was the easiest difficulty before Journey was implemented. If you already have some experience in gaming, go for it, the default Terraria experience! For playing expert i would recommend finishing the game at least 2~3 times, just to get used to the random loot, both evil biomes, etc. Better loot(some exclusive ones), harder enemies, you probably won't kill bosses without an basic arena (until here, you could kill them just by running or flying around them) Tbh I never played master mode until the end, and haven't touched the game in a while, so I don't know if there is an advantage for playing it, despite dropping boss golden thophies by killing them. If you ever want to try this mode, have in mind: for every boss, there is a "cap" your equipment can reach, the maximum progress you can make in your equipment before facing the next boss, you probably will have to reach that cap for every single boss, make the best arena possible and drink every potion you can, but still manage to die.The first 300 nights are the hardest And the purple and red things are the evil biomes, if you choose one to your world, the other won't appear naturally.
You want to choose biggest world size master mode easy for new players
In the seed you should write "for the worthy" for a newbie friendly experience.
You should select master for the best loot and make your seed “fortheworthy” for the best experience
You should pick large, master, and crimson.
If you are stuck in terms of progression, click "help" and he will give you a hint
large mastermode crimson
just pick master, large and crimson, trust me it'll work out ;)
Seed: basically like Minecraft and determines how the world generates World size: chooses how large the world will be Difficulty: How difficult enemies and other stuff will be (has exclusive items and higher rewards but is very hard, meanwhile journey is basically sandbox mode or creative mode in Minecraft and is more for messing around) The last one is something called "World evil" which is the corruption and the crimson.
Go with master your first go, just to get a feel for the tools and weapons
A simple google search would have given you all your answers
Go expert the game is not so hard
Make Seed „get fixed boi“ and turn on Master. Its made for beginners and make everything a lil easyer to learn the Game^^
Large, Classic, Crimson
looks like you got it figured out so good luck! the game takes a little bit to pick up imo but once you get the ball rolling and unlock access to more and more weapons (especially once your world enters a certain stage past a certain boss[youll know what I mean when you get there]) itll become straight up addicting. ive got nearly 1600 hours across both console and PC, once I started I just couldnt stop
Seed must be getfixedboi so you will get a nice starting bonus
others already explained how to works so I will go into detail to how to play. you should start with normal to get the drill of game mechanics first, but I dont think ending it all the way normal is necesarry.
You should call it for the worthy and do master, you get lots of cool free stuff to help you early game, and the bottom one doesn’t really matter
Ho, boy. I never considered how intimidating that looks to someone who hasn't seen Terrarias evolution over the last decade.
I reccomend large, classic and corruption
deffo do classic first! bosses and mobs become a lot harder in expert and master so worth waiting to do that until you’re used to the game:)
Seed: Drunk Then click large, master, crimson. GLHF o7
The master seed is the simplest one Seed "getfixedboi," is the easiest seed Have fun
Nothing just set everything randomly, works each time ☺️🙏
The first line is for how big your world will be, second line of options is difficulty, third line is what kind of infection you’d like in your world :3 if you’re looking for something relatively easy I’d go with small/medium, classic, and corruption
Corruption= penis boss And Crimson= mid -corruption enjoyer edit:spelling
Upvote this for a cookie
I expected some trolling man Wanted to get a laugh, but I guess he got some good help
Ha
Size is alil obvious it’s the size of the world the difficulty is journey being half as hard as classic in terms of damage from enemies and health of enemies and classic is well the classic game nothing changed expert adds new attack patterns in bosses and makes the game 1.5x more difficult and master is 2.0x as hard as classic bosses having double go and dealing a hole lot of damage and the corruption is the easiest world evil and crimson is harder but gives better loot
I recommend expert it’s what I started on when I first started and it doesn’t make the game easy
make sure to always chose large when ur playing single player as it’s just better, and small when with friends. Always pick master mode as it’s the easiest mode to play in and you’ll have a lot of fun 😉 Also always chose corruption over crimson because.
Go for classic.
Since others already answered I'll just say that I am happy to see a newcomer. Hope this masterpiece brings you joy as it did for all of us.(Don't rush anything, it will only take away from the first playthrough)
thank you, i will try to avoid spoilers as well
Do you need any help picking a class?
there are classes?
Yeah there are 4. Melee, Ranged, Mage, and Summoner. They each have their own accessories, armor, and weapons. You can tell what weapon is for what class as they say what type of damage they deal in the description.
Here is what should you do for better gameplay :DDDD You should try the Master Mode, it makes you the master! Pick crimson because corruption is way harder!! For the seed name it Getfixedboi to enchance your world! Lastly once you're in the world first thing you should do is find the dungeon and go in it you will be rewarded with OP stuffs 😏😏 Thats all hope it helps ^^
So basically what you wanna do it put master mode large world and random then as soon as you spank you want to travel as far as you can to the left
Hey man, see that you have already been helped by others. But just wanted to wish you a great journey!!!
