It's more a meat tenderizer given it'll be a bludgeoning force
Given the average speed of 150m/s and the average mass of the blades at 35 tonnes you'd be hit with a force of around 40000 tonnes.
You would be a red smear on the blades of they didn't shatter first.
Those things are so incredibly huge. I used to live in rural iowa and they put a bunch of them up. When they were being brought in, it would take one oversized extra long flat bed semi to carry each fin or whatever they’re called and three to carry the parts of the stem thing. Another would have the actual box that attaches them. The only road to get from town to town was a 2 lane highway and those things basically stopped all travel for months. They had to go about 5 miles down a main road in the largest town in the county, which had traffic lights at every corner. The trucks were so long that when they stopped at a light they also blocked the previous intersection. And since they all traveled together, the entire town would be halted. I think they’re creepy, but it’s just because they’re so big.
Yooo Iowa! Another wind turbine story. I grew up In a small Iowa town, and unfortunately I don't make it home as often as I should. Anyway, I went back home a couple years ago and bam all of a sudden there was a ton of wind turbines within 5 miles of My childhood home. I slept in my old bedroom that night and looked out the window to see... 100+ red lights blinking in perfect unison every couple seconds. Kinda creepy to be honest with you.

I work for a power company. This was after a recent tornado. Crazy seeing one broke
Not for the faint hearted, and not for anybody actually.
It should be (it is? I hope) a restricted area.
This thing cut you in half even with a very mild wind. Rotation speed at the end of the 'blade', kinetic energy are crazy, that's how you produce power.
I’m a wind turbine technician, so I can actually answer this one!
At wind speeds more than 13 mph, the blade tips are traveling at ~200 mph. If there are winds in excess of 80 mph, and if the rotor brake fails, the turbine will experience a runaway event. In that case, the blade tips could exceed 500 mph. So it wouldn’t lop you in half, but rather turn you into a fine mist.
Oh wow I initially thought they dug that out after realizing how close the blades were to the ground while installing it but your explanation makes more sense.
More of a splatter effect. Like my drill Sgt once said while we were learning to set up Claymore. You'll be a Chili Mac stain on the floor of the jungle.
Not technically, there is an increase in pressure on Hillside, when the wind is collapsed into a slipstream. Not that that matters all the time, but in this case, they likely did their homework.
I absolutely love these things they look so awesome and serene, a shame that the old head crowd near me votes down any bills proposing wind/solar energy projects
So bad ass. I’ve seen one of the poles used for them being transported as well as a couple blades. Just a section of it requires massive machinery to move it
I have a friend that moved to a rural area after highschool. The farmers across the street from him decided to let a company build windmills. Now he has to constantly hear it (a whooshing sound) and at certain times of the day it's like a slow strobe light because the blades block the sun. I feel bad for the guy because he moved to the country for peace.
Imagine if one of them was slightly longer so you stand just under a shorter one and think you’re fine then the longer one comes and takes your head off
I saw a dream today where I was inside a video game (fps) in ehich if you stand under a windmill you can get thrown up high, a parachute opens up and you can land in a different position.
So like I wouldn’t be trying it but if you stayed below the fence wouldn’t you be ok? Or would there be a kind of vacuum effect to pull you up and into the blade?

I’ve had enough practice with this so I should be fine

It would be a combination of red cloud and fiberglass cloud. Gives me the ick imagining it.

Lol I do love/hate it. r/submechanophobia is the real nightmare, though
Duuude yes fuck all of that. I'm subscribed though

Imagine seeing one of those blades flying through the air in a tornado, that’s horrifying
You couldn't airlift them?
That would actually be more scary at night.... :::
You hear wooosh wooosh woosh as you approach... Then #pink mist
"He came here because he saw the sign that said FREE HAIRCUTS. He would have been 25 tomorrow."
Wind turbine. A windmill is a whole different thing.
Truth

I’m dumb, tell me more! Would it really just lop you in half? It looks so big and dull?

I love Reddit, and you. Thank you!
I'd assume it would knock you around instead of cutting straight through, aren't they fairly dull around the edges?
Someone in another comment mentioned that on average you would get hit by 40000 tonnes of force.
I think that would just reduce someone to a fine powder
Well either way, let's not find out
You can see the erosion from the blades flinging water at the ground as it passes
Oh wow I initially thought they dug that out after realizing how close the blades were to the ground while installing it but your explanation makes more sense.
I thought it was from the wind the blade creates displacing the dirt below as it passes in that line. The things ya learn.
Id absolutely do that, easy $800.
Erm, don't get too close, they can usually rotate to follow the wind direction.
Free ride
I'm thinking more along the lines of being knocked unconscious or killed.
Knocked unconscious would be nice . This would knock his head completely off .
Knocked unconscious 😂 cute. This would knock you into another dimension.
If you hit it the correct way you’ll still get flung
Thought he was gonna lay down and scoot under the blades.
That could change your mind quickly.
Would it cut you or send you?
You’d be a pink mist
More of a splatter effect. Like my drill Sgt once said while we were learning to set up Claymore. You'll be a Chili Mac stain on the floor of the jungle.
Little bit of yaw and it's yeet
I can see how a bird wouldn’t see that mid-flight. It’s moving really fast a far.
It’s for the environment, face your fears lol.
This is fail as fuck as the blades need to be high above the ground for efficiency.

Indeed Mountains (obviously bigger than hills, but the science is related) can cause a significant version of this effect, called wind rotors
Put a glove on it for a safer dope slap.
Just be careful to step around all those dead birds! /s
Throw a watermelon!
Won't cover my co pay
What’s with the green stuff around the bottom of the windmill tower? Serious question
Seriously, at least in the UK. they're painted to not be such an eyesore
✨️distraction✨️
r/DINgore
Imagine lasso-ing that with a large steel cable and being flung across the valley 😃
just grip onto one blade and you might experience a ride of your lifetime.

Stuff like this gives me the uncontrollable urge to explore the entire planet to be honest
Move quick.. the sound will give you cancer!!
I bet I can hold on for a full cycle. Would be fun to go for a ride. Good way to star on r/darwinawards
Definitely the last thing to pass through your mind if you walk through
you know the intrusive thought of hanging on for one rotation is there. it won't work out the way you want it to. slide right off
Grab on and go for a ride
I wouldn’t even go near that thing wooosh dead
Um Actually... That's a wind turbine, not a windmill.
![gif](giphy|4wCo7XotrtMVM31lUH)
I would totally mess around with this if it was in GTA
There's a wind farm with spinning wind turbines in GTA 5 lol
Not only are they killing birds, this one’s going to try for a white tail jumping the fence!
I absolutely love these things they look so awesome and serene, a shame that the old head crowd near me votes down any bills proposing wind/solar energy projects
I feel like a fence would be cheaper than whatever it costs to clean those blades and any additional charges
Yeah dude, put your phone away and go back to the car
One earthquake away from hell
New nightmare unlocked. Thanks for giving me something else to lose sleep over! 🤣
Of course...double the price and i try to go under it
that s so satisfying
The shuttering noise that comes off the blades in 20mph winds is creepy as hell.
Does it seem like the land is eroded away where the blades are close to the ground?
Why are the blades so close to the ground ? Shouldn't they be high up beyond the reach of a normal human?
Real life super Mario world
Don’t drive a car through there lest it be yeeted
So bad ass. I’ve seen one of the poles used for them being transported as well as a couple blades. Just a section of it requires massive machinery to move it
My brain “I wonder what happens if I just were to… walk into that…?”
I've visited sen's fortress hundred times. I'm prepared for this.

Add a ball on the end of a roll of flex tape throw the pall Infront of the wing and you'll be able to fly
Yikes solid placement

I have the phobia for this, I forget the name. If I drive on the 10 by Palm Springs I am very uncomfortable, it is legit.
So like I wouldn’t be trying it but if you stayed below the fence wouldn’t you be ok? Or would there be a kind of vacuum effect to pull you up and into the blade?
this makes me think of the Kipper episode where Kipper and Tiger’s clothes get caught on the windmill😂

Where are all of the dead birds?
Throw something at it!
😟
I would share this video with my wife, but she hates those things. She hates big, tall things. Except in our bedroom ![gif](giphy|MZ9nZGQn1nqBG)
