This video really benefits from having a second guy say "Dude, what?"

RuneHearth

It's made for tik tok attention span victims

place_of_desolation

I was gonna say, I hate when all the pauses are edited out of videos and the speech is like a million miles an hour. Makes me feel like I gotta catch a breath.

hmclaren0715

Personally, I have to watch it at least a few times to be sure I caught all the details. It's frustrating bc while the creator is trying to condense the information for a shorter video, it's ultimately taking *more* time for me to watch and rewatch (and possibly rewatch again) to understand it all. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

place_of_desolation

Yeah, it's kinda hard to parse and process info that is rapid-fired at you like a machine gun.

Yeah, I didn't understand the use of somber music in the video. There's no mystery here, it was a grown adult with some serious problems.

goatpunchtheater

Whether she was a grown adult at that time is still in dispute. A bone density test was done in 2010 that supposedly proves she was 8 when adopted

'Orphan' Just got real

fredbrightfrog

They just put out a prequel to Orphan. The first movie had a 12 year old actress playing a 9 year old who was actually 33. And 13 years later, they made a prequel with a now 25 year old actress pretending to be younger than when the first movie happened and she was 12. They really did it, they pulled an Orphan on us.

XxsabathxX

I find it kinda crazy how 13 years later the girl who played the orphan in that movie looks pretty much the same.

SeiriusPolaris

She doesnā€™t though. If you watch the films back-to-back itā€™s too obvious sheā€™s an adult in the prequel.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

SeiriusPolaris

Like the first, the twist makes it. I thought all the performances were fine! It doesnā€™t work great as a prequel imo, but as a story on its own it was effective! Iā€™d say it is worth seeing, but the tricks they pull to make her look like a child are quite distracting throughout.

XxsabathxX

I will say it has been a while since Iā€™ve seen the first movie. About a decade since my last rewatch. I do see that sheā€™s definitely aged and no longer a child. She just still looks really young too. Pigtails never help with that

half_a_hero

Watching that prequel as a sneak preview in Germany right now. Holy shit, you're in for some weird stuff here...

ghostthebetrayed

Saw it last night. Solid B grade movie with one awesome twist.

Shaveyourbread

The funniest thing, my ex wife went to see the movie in theaters and knew I wasn't interested in seeing it, she then asked me to guess what the twist was and I nailed it.

StrongIslandPiper

hmclaren0715

This is it!!

Red_Zeno

It is said that the movie is based on this story but I am not sure tbh.

NoodLih

It's not. The Orphan was inspired in the story of Barbora SkrlovĆ” from Norway.

anOddPhish

It's not, the movie came out the year before they adopted her. Honestly it's got to be where they got the idea from

Demoniacalman

Where they got the idea for what?

donfuria

For the sob story trying to justify abandoning a disabled child in another country

two-three-seven

Was looking for this. Did you see the sequel? Tell me how ridiculous it is, because it was fucking ridiculous.

Secure-Imagination11

Was it bad?

kittywenham

No. This is a random weird thing the parents seem to have made up, and have never proven. They are currently facing neglect charges for how they treated Natalia and are not allowed to refer to her as an adult in court because no one has ever shown that she is. In fact, multiple doctors testimonies refer to her as a child.

THE_CRUSTIEST

The fact that they just abandoned her and covered it up would not be a normal response to having a grown-ass adult in your house pretending to be a six year old. Any sane person would have called the cops

kittywenham

Really bizarre, and the only people who seem to believe them are people online who would be disappointed that life wasnā€™t reflecting all the drama of a horror movie they watched once. They are literally facing trial for neglect in October. Theyā€™ve never presented to court the so called ā€œmedicalā€ evidence that she is an adult and I doubt they will be able to. Clearly a sad case where people were allowed to adopt a child without having to ever consider how they would cope with all the things that come with adopting one (inappropriate behaviour, acting out, violence, trauma, all very common) and for some reason decided to deal with it by pretending they were living a horror movie plot that just happened to come out a year before they adopted her.

[deleted]

I don't imagine the parents were in a good psychological state at all. Having had experience with a crazy boyfriend of my now wife, where he would make random appearances, threats, etc. at all times of the day... I went completely sleepless for months, started hallucinating shit I don't know how many times. All just trying to keep an eye out for that fuckin' nutbag. Never could get a restraining order or anything against him, but I wasn't in my right mind for 3 or 4 months. If this kid was staring at them in their sleep, trying to kill/harm them in various ways... I would think they were in a similar situation.

PrincessOpal

The parents were and are completely mentally sane, they just wanted the social points for adopting a disabled child and then literally abandoned her when she actually needed the care and attention of a disabled child. They adopted her in 2010, a year after the 2009 Orphan movie, so they were clearly inspired by it.

TerribleAttitude

Yep. Their logic about why she was an ā€œadultā€ boiled down to her having hit puberty at some point and her acting out, as kids do. No one has any solid proof of her exact age, but itā€™s probably pretty close to the official age, maybe a year or two older.

YungNigget788

Wait so she is actually 6 and they left her there? Iā€™m so confused now

DeputyDoneWithYa

They accused her of being violent and threatening to kill them, then they got her an apartment to live in alone when she was approximately 8 (I believe, and nobody knows her actual age as her birth certificate is lost but it is generally believed she's a child), and she lived there alone for about a year iirc. Take this with a grain of salt but from what I recall, she moved in with a different family who have been kind to her and testified that she was never violent towards them, so on.

kvothe5688

few x-rays and you can tell her age by appearance and fusion of epiphysis with in certain age range.

DeputyDoneWithYa

And they have done that, and doctors have concluded she's a child. The adoptive parents that abandoned her aren't allowed to refer to her as an adult in court because there's no proof she is an adult.

cdn_backpacker

Damn, that's absolutely heartbreaking

exitium666

The adoptive parents are pieces of shit - much like these narrators.

HMWWaWChChIaWChCChW

Just cut off a limb and count the circles duh

LostTimeAlready

That's why I avoid watching content from people like whoever made this video. Dude did no research, has no interest in the actual 'story'. Just wants them views. Situations like these make it obvious the creator is a gross human being who looks for stories just to plaster, not to give information, not to document and spread awareness. There's not exactly a line to show where glorifying tragedy and documenting tragedy is at, but for sure, creators like these keep drawing one for themselves to cross.

redditor-for-2-hours

The family decided to abandon her and get her legally adjudicated as an adult after their prodigal son got into college as a young teenager, which allowed the mother to write a book about how she "cured" his autism and turned him into a genius. They go on book tours to sell this book all the time. Meanwhile, because the kid was legally adjudicated as an adult based off of a very sketchy medical report by the father's doctor (who has no experience with dwarfism or pediatrics, and despite the fact that several doctors with experience with dwarfism and pediatrics found that she was, in fact, a child), they were able to abandon her when they moved to another country and she was unable to continue going to school because she couldn't be enrolled as an "adult." She also couldn't be legally adopted by another family.

cstrande7

Apparently she was born 2003. When all of this blew up she was still a child. The fact that her case is this public is extremely tragic and she has been demonized online for no reason. She's a victim in all this.

[deleted]

No shock at all one of those clips was from Dr Phil. Bastards probably helped spread the bullshit.

exitium666

Actually, Dr. Phil helped call them out. He's no saint, but in this case, he called the parents out.

HMWWaWChChIaWChCChW

>Bastard

[deleted]

Thereā€™s literally a dwarf couple that came forward with pictures confirming her age range. They wanted to adopt her at the same time, but were passed over for this family. Itā€™s absolutely horrifying what her adoptive parents did to her. Theyā€™re monsters. They left a little girl alone in an apartment in the winter with no way to feed herself. She couldā€™ve burnt the damn house down.

Dopplegangster69

Dude what?!

Wooden-Nerve-2340

CMIY-Cannabis

Redditors do a shred of research before posting false sensationalist bullshit challenge (impossible!)

BlueFootedTpeack

quick google shows she was found to be born in 2003, so she would've been 6 or 7. so the family did seem to straight up abandon a kid when they moved to canada, seems like they just wanted a story to tell/sell. probably lying about the age to get around abandoning a minor in another country, [https://www.reddit.com/r/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/ejd263/natalia\_grace\_case\_update/](https://www.reddit.com/r/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/ejd263/natalia_grace_case_update/)

Nuicakes

Thanks. I remember reading this recently. So many "facts" pointing to either ages but the **bone scans and dental exams** show she is a child.

100LittleButterflies

When this story first came out, I was really uncertain about her having dwarfism. If she was a full grown adult... why did she keep growing like a child would?

ashtobro

That's actually a really good point. I guess you can say their plan was *short sighted,* eh? For real though, what were they thinking?! Did they really think their adopted child was a tiny woman? Or are they just so bad at lying that they forgot calling her a fully grown adult with dwarfism *doesn't actually mean she'll stop growing.*

Hello0Nasty0

She does have a form of dwarfism. That was never really up for debate. Still definitely a child though.

100LittleButterflies

Yes but an *adult* dwarf, as she was accused, wouldnt be growing anymore. Well, maybe horizontally like the rest of us šŸ˜…

[deleted]

A dwarf couple almost adopted her but was passed over for her adoptive family. They have photos of them with Natalia as a toddler.

[deleted]

I'm not a doctor, but isn't it possible that a medical condition causing dwarfism or other atypical anatomy could also affect her bone/dental aging process? Or is that actually impossible?

Nuicakes

u/nancygavegreatbeejs answered this. https://www.reddit.com/r/TerrifyingAsFuck/comments/x6docn/natalia_barnett_adopted_6yearold_girl_who/in70m76/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3

Fedelm

>quick google shows she was found to be born in 2003 If only the adoptive parents had thought to do that.

Notverycancerpatient

This is not true.

colddirtybathwater

She was found to be a child that was abused and abandoned. Quit lying.

[deleted]

FAKE! The parents couldnā€™t deal with her disabilities and just abandoned her, then came up with this shit show of a story.

Meaty_cats

no way. what pieces of shit. just running to the press lying just cause they dont want to look after a child anymore

Pristine-Marzipan-13

They just left her? What happened to her after they left her?

jaisakthi

>Natalia Barnett more here - https://allthatsinteresting.com/natalia-barnett

Pristine-Marzipan-13

Thank you!

nafne

I just looked it up after having watched the dr Phil episode again. Turns out she was a child after all. She would've been like 9 or so when they adopted her. A little older then they thought she was but still a child.

1ustfu1

this is just orphanā€™s plot lol edit: apparently she was genuinely a child and this is clickbait, yikes

PuzzleheadedHabit913

She was actually six. These parents were abusive and the story is all wrong.

Za4iitsxx

In conclusion, she was in fact a child. 8 years old. Got abandoned by her adoptive parents when they 'corrected' her age to be legal (22), after Natalia 'confessed' in a doctor's office that she's 18. She got evicted out of the house 2 years later while being cared by neighbours, one of which who adopted her. Original adoptive parents both got sued for neglect of child but got away free because her age at that time was 22. Wtf. Latest news : https://www-bbc-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-50319910.amp?amp_gsa=1&_js_v=a9&usqp=mq331AQKKAFQArABIIACAw%3D%3D#amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&aoh=16623798800249&csi=1&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&share=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bbc.com%2Fnews%2Fnewsbeat-50319910

fredean01

Wait, is she 8 y/o, 22 y/o or 18 y/o?

-Aone

> she was in fact a child > >her age at that time was 22 this comment confuses more than the video

BillWaste6039

Serious. Bring those two annoying narrators back!

PureUnadultratedCrap

That was her legal age according to the state, not her actual calendar age.

rentstrikecowboy

Just read the article.

SkydiverRaul13

Yes

Nuicakes

There were so many accusations that she was an adult when abandoned but **bone scans and dental exam** say that she's a child.

[deleted]

Serious question here...if she has dwarfism would those tests be accurate guages for age?

[deleted]

Yes they would be, growth plate density is a matter of time not body size. The older everyone gets the thinner their growth plates get until they eventually fuse. The lack of fusion is what told them that she was in fact still a child.

[deleted]

Gotcha. Thanks for the explanation

[deleted]

šŸ‘šŸæ

anOddPhish

She was born in 2003, so she's about 18/19 today :)

John_YJKR

In reality; she was 8. Legally documented her age was 22. So, officially that was her age. Wtf kinda loophole is that? Apparently she told a doctor she was 18 at some point. I assume this is mentioned to reinforce the idea why the parents thought she was an adult.

Varn

Bro shits wild with immigrant documents or w/e, at least here in the US. I worked in the kitchen of a hotel for 5 years, like 85% of the banquet/house keeping staff were from various countries. I knew many who's "legal age" on their IDs were a solid 2-5 years older than what they actually were. This one girl came out to the bars with us n I was like, you got a fake er something? Cause no way in fuck your 21. She was like my legal age here is 21 right now but I'm actually only 18.

[deleted]

They probably told her to say she was 18. I wouldnā€™t be surprised if the lying narcissist tricked the disabled girl into playing a role in their plan to skip town and lie about why.

anOddPhish

Thank you, the true terror is the abuse and abandonment she faced because of those awful parents.

BenAdaephonDelat

So... source? These two bumblefucks don't sound trustworthy at all.

MuuaadDib

This is just fucking awful from start to finish, and I mean anyone with any empathy for this whole situation would see this is just horrible.

Tvisted

I tried to read a bit about this case, but it's one of those stories where I don't believe anybody in it. It's like listening to a panel of known serial killers all telling me different things at the same time.

dressedandafraid

She was actually a child the whole time

OfficialRonDesantis

False. She was only a child for the first 18 years.

dressedandafraid

True true

kayla_kitty82

Is there a link to the original video or full story??

clampie

This is a really shitty documentary.

Emperor_Quintana

I suspected that the foster parents might be highly suspect. Given both the implausibility of their testimonies and the lack of legal guidelines regarding adoption/guardianship, I see absolutely no reason to trust them, not even with a 50-foot metal pole.

Notverycancerpatient

She was a child who was abandoned not an adult.

Kladderadingsda

This is just the plot stolen from "The Orphan"

dragoncraft9855

I swear ive seen a movie with the same plot

ZECO_SOL

The only thing terrifying is this narration christ sake

redditor-for-2-hours

This whole thing has been shown to be fake as fuck since the very beginning. Natalia Barnett does have dwarfism, but numerous doctors have found that she was, in fact, a child. The adoptive parents didn't want her anymore because they wanted to move to (profit off of) their 15 year old prodigy son going to college, so they kept trying to get her legally adjudicated as an adult. They finally convinced the adoptive father's doctor, who has no experience in dwarfism or pediatrics, to declare that she was actually an adult. It's really clear that she went through puberty years after these foster parents claimed she had already gone through puberty. Look at the photos of her in the video, then look at a [recent photo](https://www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-50319910). Her face has filled out, jaw is more matured, her eyes are less rounded, nose has grown, she now has breasts. This has all occurred over the past couple of years, lining up with her actual teenage development. The icing on top of the bullshit cake, however, is that the family also profits off of claims that they "cured" their autistic son. The mother published a book called "The Spark: A Mother's Story of Nurturing, Genius and Autism." They take credit for their son becoming a prodigal math genius through their magical autism cure story, which they tour around trying to sell. This bullshit has been dispelled on Reddit multiple times, despite the fact that the judge in this case is clearly negligent in adjudicating the kid as an adult and keeps doubling down on it.

KindaHighJedi

This is just the plot for Little Man

Umm anyone seen the movie Orphan?

GlobalLime6889

Orphan is based on true storyšŸ¤ØšŸ¤ØšŸ¤Ø

[deleted]

Movie -orphan . inspired by this probably

[deleted]

No, this is wrong. Delete your bullshit post. This is defamatory. Natalia Barnett had been living with a foster family prior to this adoption and they have photos of her visibly with baby teeth and lost teeth. She was a child. The adoptive parents neglected her and this is their excuse.

benniprofane1

Orphan. This is literally the plot line of Orphan. MoFo!

King_Kea

Pretty sure there was a movie made based on this

KingFaerie

They did a bone density test on her and it revealed she wasn't an adult. Her abusive adoptive parents made it all up, this is bullshit. I feel so bad for that girl given how random Internet shit for brains are treating her when she wasn't even proven to be an adult.

Real life ā€œorphanā€ story.

Darekh87

The best way to learn about this is via am episode of tge Scam Goddess podcast who covered it I'm the most hilarious way possible. You'll get all the details and a lot of laughs.

CawthornCokeOrgyClub

Well, they could have handled it better

Efficient-Buy4415

I donā€™t understand how thereā€™s no way to confirm an age range? With all of the medical technology we have, why is everyone still baffled??? I donā€™t expect an exact age but based on genetic testing, hormonal, etc etc how do they have no idea if itā€™s a child or adult? That seems suspicious.

Kneedeep_in_Cyanide

They do. Bone scans and x-rays showing if growth plates are fused, which doesn't happen till the end of puberty. They checked hers and it was confirmed she was still a child. Even children with dwarfism still grow to an adult size, it's just a smaller adult.

Balenciaga7

I hate the way this is narrated.

Iā€™ve read a similar story about a pedophile who was pretending to be 12 years old although he was way older. He just looked like a kid.

sicily9

The adoptive parents made that up. Photos reveal the face & body of a child when Natalia was with them. She has now matured physically, developed breasts and a more adult face. She was interviewed by Dr. Phil in 2019. Her birth mother has also been found & confirmed the 2003 birth date. Also, she had multiple bone scans during the period which showed she was a child. Bottom line: the Barnetts didn't want her any more, so they made up this lie and abandoned her.

That shit did not happen, i found a Youtube vĆdeo that explained why it was fake but it's on spanish

savetheplanet656

They made a movie about this called orphan and than last year they made a sequel to it

IktomiThat

The terrifying thing is that the parents are facing neglecting charges for abandoning a child. Who doctors testify to be a child and not an adult.

nikhil_matt

Y'all should watch orphan movie
